• THE CONCEPT OF CYBION •

CYBION is an anticipation concept-album. It is only composed of one epic piece. We strongly insist on this point: its structures and audio tracks are here to provide reference points to the listener, but CYBION must be considered as a one and only piece. It may only make sense in its entirety, exactly like a movie. Music and lyrics are very closely connected, developing atmospheres trying to provoke various emotions to the listener (oppression, happiness...), proposing (and not imposing) him a succession of pictures and feelings corresponding as closely as possible to the development of the story (but everyone is free to interpret it in a different way… as each person feels music in a different way). A million miles away from the idea of an easy-listening or disposable music, like those records you listen to once or twice before they get lost and dusty on a shelf (if they were even bought...), this piece can be difficult to understand at first, but will reveal itself time after time to those who’ll strive to listen carefully, and will always surprise them, even after dozens of listening.

A universal language
In order to provide more credibility, weight but also more poetry to the language imposed by the League, another genuine language called Kal was created for this record. Far from being just a simple translation of French or English with different words, this articulated language possesses its own grammar, semantic and etymology, and its calligraphy is also unique. Kal results from the study of different living, dead or imaginary languages such as Sanskrit, Latin, English, Arabic, Greek, German, Japanese, and even Quenya and Tengwar. It required, its creator Brett Caldas-Lima acknowledges, "a totally stupid amount of working hours in regard to the few times it is used".

• THE BONUS CD : ORIGINS •

The idea
The idea behind "Origins" was first to make "Skies", the band’s first demo (which was reportedly sold on eBay for more than 100 euros…), available again. Since the 1500 limited copies edition released by Adipocere in 1996 was out of stock, the band decided to give it out freely on download. Today, it’s a re-mixed and re-mastered version which is brought to you, but still keeping (or nevertheless trying to keep) the soul and the style of the original sound, just improving it in order to make the instruments sound clearer (even if some approximations become more audible). Nothing was re-recorded.

The Covers
Since "Skies" is only half an hour-long and that a CD can contain a lot more than that, why not give the fans something even more worth their money? This is where "Origins" came out. 4 bands were chosen, each one in a different style in which KALISIA used to pick inspiration to make their own combinations and create their own style. These bands were DREAM THEATER (progressive metal), CYNIC (experimental jazz death metal), EMPEROR (black metal) and LOUDBLAST (death metal). These 4 bands influenced KALISIA (along with so many more) when it was formed and helped it to build-up its own personality. It is also interesting to note that these bands (especially the first two) were very often quoted in the reviews published about the "Skies" release.

• GUEST PERFORMANCES •

Even if KALISIA couldn’t find any support from record companies (judging the product too hard to sell despite its quality), the band received the much more important, to their eyes, help and support from many artists throughout the world officiating in different universes (well, still in the metal scene) and who agreed, for the greatest happiness and pride of the band, to take part in the project. Each of them gave KALISIA absolutely amazing performances.



• PACKAGING •

The physical support of CYBION will, for the moment, only be a deluxe Digipak version. Its factory specifications as defined with the manufacturer are the following (to help you imagine what the final product will look like):
• 2 Audio CD with label printed with 5 colors
• In a 8 panel-coverpak printed 4/0 + mat UV varnish on 330 gsm coated board
• 2 clear tray on the central panels
• 1 stapled stictched booklet with 36 pages printed 4/4 on 130 gsm mat coated paper + mat water base warmish
• 1 pocket opened on both sides with half-moon thumbcut on the first right panel to contain the booklet
• Paper top spine printed 4/0 on 170 gsm gloss coated board
• Packing operation and shrinkwrapping.

• HOW TO PURCHASE CYBION ? •

Three ways of ordering the album are possible:

• The physical support (digipak double CD) is now available on the website of the band exclusively (www.kalisia.com) for only 14 euros (plus shipping, 3 euros for France, 6 for the rest of the world). Pre-orders will be shipped at the end of January 2009, in order to avoid risks of parcel loss by the postal services during the Holidays season. The album will remain available on the website in the future.

• Then, it will be available in French shops via the usual Season of Mist distribution network. Everything was done (meaning the band earns almost nothing) to make the final price as low as possible (around 16 or 17 euros), but as many intermediates are implicated, it is difficult, not to say impossible, to know the final selling price yet. A final release date is yet to be set, but it will probably be around mid-February.

• CYBION (without "Origins") is also be available in MP3 format (192kbits). It only costs 3 euros, is legally downloadable and without any restriction on the files (no DRM or any device pissing you off and preventing you from listening to it anywhere you want) on www.kalisia.com and will be available on different platforms as well: iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon mp3, eMusic, Napster... (prices may differ from a platform to another). As a reward for people supporting the band by buying the MP3 files instead of downloading it illegally, buyers will get a discount coupon corresponding to 50% of the digital format price (that’s to say 1,50 euros) they can use to buy the digipak on www.kalisia.com if they like the album. Please note that the mp3 version of the album is distributed as one file to prevent gaps between parts depending on the mp3 player you're using.

Brett and Laurent P. participated to the score of a short animation movie called Jungle Jail.

The music created for the movie starts when the "beast" becomes uncontrollable and ends with the awakening. There are gaps and problems with the audio during all the movie but the makers of it don't seem to be bothered by this, so...

Because of his familial and professional duties, and in agreement with the band after deliberation, Laurent Bendahan and KALISIA have decided to part ways to allow the band to prepare the promotion of "Cybion", the rehearsals and the coming concerts in the best and most serene conditions.

KALISIA is now searching for a replacement drummer. He (or she, let's not be close-minded) must have an excellent level and be able to play with a click track. The band is located in Montpellier, in the South of France, but is opened to motivated and serious drummers, wherever they may be in France or in Europe. A pro experience of the stage and studio is a plus, but is not mandatory as long as the faith is present.

Brett has once more been happy and honoured to accompany CYNIC during the second leg of their European tour (Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia and Hungary), as their sound-man of course, but also as a growler on the now classic "Uroboric Forms" and on "How Could I" during the Budapest show.

Those of you who have bought United Abominations by MEGADETH have maybe been surprised to see that Brett is not credited in the booklet. It in facts is a mistake from the label Roadrunner, and should be corrected in the next run. Very unlucky, especially since the album is selling amazingly well (number 8 in the US, 2 in Japon, etc).

If you know a little KALISIA, you must probably know that one of our favorite bands, if not THE favorite one, is the very-cult CYNIC (whose unique masterpiece-album, "Focus", has been release in 1993). Well, Brett has had the immense joy and honor to share the stage with them during their European Reunion Tour 2007 to sing on the song "Uroboric Forms" in Paris (France) and in Düdingen (Switzerland). Videos (only from Paris yet apparently) are available on Youtube (here and here). An unforgettable moment for him to meet those musicians as talented and gifted as they are great and sympathetic human beings.

Finally, to conclude and give news about Cybion, its mixing is finished, as well as most of its artwork. The band is currently finishing the covers for the Included Bonus CD ('Origins') and studies the different possibilities to release this album.

Yeah, many monthes without any news from us, we're very sorry but the summer has been pretty hectic. Here is a small summary:

Firstly, Thibaut has joined the Metalcore band from Montpellier EYELESS. The band's new album, "The Game of Fear", mixed by Tue Madsen, will be released in January 2007 by Season of Mist.

Loïc has finished the second EILERA album. After a summer spent recording vocals and guitars, Loïc and Aurélie flew in december to Finland in order to finalize the recordings and mix the album. It will be released by Spinefarm.

Brett continues to work as a producer in the studio he created, the Tower Studio. This is why he flew to Hungary and England where he spent two monthes in may and june producing hungarian-english band TO-MERA's first album, "Transcendental", released in september on Candlelight Records. Brett also plays keyboards and did the orchestrations for two songs, plus some embarrassing guitar "noises".

Brett then spent the three next monthes producing symphonic metal band AUSPEX (Elodie's band), for which he also played all rhythm guitars and did some vocals and choirs. He then mixed HYPNO5E's album "Des Deux l'Une est l'Autre", and should begin working on ABIGAIL WILLIAMS' first album for Candlelight Records in a few months (US epic black metal).

Also, in order to help his friends of MALMONDE, Brett has replaced Mick, the band's bass player, to his duty (and without any rehearsal...) on two dates (Montpellier and Perpignan) for which Mick was unavailable. A great rock n' roll moment, filled with good fun, especially when Brun's (KALISIA, FAIRLIGHT) joined the band in Montpellier for a song onstage !!!

Anyway, after all these perils, Cybion's final mix is finally on track again...

Ah finally, and to conclude this report and before wishing you a good and happy new year, Brett has recorded his vox (nothing really, just a short text in french) for the upcoming album of a small band called... MEGADETH (he's still shaking from it...) !!! 8-D

The March issue of the French Rock Hard Magazine (with Venom on the cover) contains an inset called "The Ideal Metaltheque - Vol IV : Prog' Metal". In this list of about 50 referencial albums (Dream Theater, Rush, Marillion, Symphony X, Superior, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Vanden Plas, Liquid Tension Experiment, Devin Townsend, Fates Warning, Porcupine Tree, Magellan, Ark, Ayreon, etc...) that left a mark on this musical style and "contributed to make progressive metal what it is today", you can find, oh surprise, a small french band and its demo "Skies"... Excellent !!! (smells like deja-vu, doesn't it?)

Hello everybody ! Here are some news concerning the advance of the concept album : we can confirm you that 99 pourcents has been recorded, actually only 3 or 4 vocal parts need to be finalized in the upcoming days, but the final mix should start very soon. You can hardly believe it ? So do we :-) This also means that you only have a few monthes left before the end of the contest (see news from September 9th).
We don't want to reveal too much about the Bonus CD that will be included with "Cybion" (mainly because we still don't know if it will be possible or not for sure, depending on the label...), but it will be called "Origins", contains a remixed and remastered version of "Skies", and a selection of covers from band that have influenced KALISIA during its early days et that help it create its own identity. Unfortunately, no live material will be included as we were hoping, the recordings that we have being no good enough. No bands nor song titles yet (not to behave like rock stars, but not to disappoint anybody if those titles can't be release), but some clues : 2 covered songs are from the two bands whose names appeared the most in "Skies" reviews (for those who know the band...), and one of the songs has been played live on stage several time by KALISIA (and the band even shared the stage with its creators - peace of cake !). Another detail, this covers have some prestigious guest appearances. More infos very soon...
