Current mood:  aroused

After 2 years (and 3 years before that as Purple Patch), SUB-ROSA have decided to call it a day and move on to pastures new.
Jay, our bass man, has rightfully accepted the offer of a place at theAcademy of Contemporary Music, Guildford. We wish him the very best of luck for the future.
Col our frontman has also decided to 'hang up the mic' and concentrate on spending time with his wife and three lovely kids.
Word round the campfire is that Dan is gonna come out from behind the drumkit and try some of his own material (vocals/bass) so watch out for that cus like his brother Col, he's got a great voice.
Joe and Tim will still be looking for new ways too extort weird and wonderful noises from their guitars so don't get too comfortable just yet! (potential collaborators should get in touch).
You can hear 5 of the 10 album tracks (which we recorded ourselves on a laptop in 7 hours) on our MySpace page.

Thanks for all your support, gigs, comments, and taking time to check out SUB-ROSA

Tea For A Viper June 2006

I was sent a four track EP by Leicester's SUB-ROSA and it's enjoyable and impressive.

Tea For A Viper has an exotic tinge with a swirling dervish guitar riff for the verse. A storming piece of music. Both Never Before and One Age Paradise are anthemic in the nature of the singing. You know, long notes held. While this isn't something I particularly like (although I've only just realised it - I'm still learning about my taste) there is always the guitar/drums/bass parts that drive along beautifully. I'm Right, You're Dead starts contemplatively. It builds up the tension, half lets go giving you ten seconds relaxation, but then ramps up the power. In comes the heavy distortion and the sliding guitar notes. This is how music should be.

I'm going to award Sub-Rosa the Cool Noise seal of approval for the best guitar work I've heard so far in 2006. This is a band that have real potential.
