This band from David Rohl made 2 symphonic albums in the 70-ies, the second called "Eye of Wendor" became a cult album, certainly in the Netherlands. Justin Hayward, the guys of BJH, Sad Cafe and others guested on this album. David Rohl started with a study archaeology, became famous with his discoveries in the Middle East and now returned with a new album.....
I'm allowed to give 2 new albums away of this band: Competition.
.. An interview with this man you find here: Interview with David Rohl.
Mandalaband BC – Ancestor (Oct. '09) Review by Nick Gielkens. Symphonic orchestration, haunting uilleann pipes and a tasteful guitar riff lead us into the strange and exotic world of David Rohl and his fellow explorers, as the third reincarnation of Mandalaband goes in search of our ancient ancestors. The first four minutes of the BC – Ancestors overture set the overall sound of the CD – bright, crystal clear production, rich in instrumentation, full of subtle sound effects, smooth keyboards and soaring guitars ... and a nice flashback to the “Eye of Wendor” album from ’78 as the first dramatic chord of the overture is struck. From here prepare yourself to be enthralled by tales of kings, wise men and world changing events from the distant past. With the next song "Eden" the Music really merits a capital "M" – edgy sounding guitar riffs, nice melodic prog with violins and an acoustic guitar swinging throughout. Two ladies, Barbara & Briony Macanas (mother and daughter), are responsible for the smooth backing vocals. An excellent start to this musical journey through time that writes history like no other has done before. David takes care of most of the lead vocals. I like his warm, dark voice, which fits in with the content of the stories so well. Another singer is Woolly Wolstenholme (on “Nimrod” & "Roots"). The recording of his voice on "Nimrod" doesn’t work for me – a bit like Alan Parsons' “Old and Wise” but not as strong. And when the song gets a weird (brass band-like) twist towards the end, it becomes my least favourite song on the album. The third lead singer is Marc Atkinson, who has a very rich and soulful voice. Listen to “Beautiful Babylon” and the catchy “Solomon the Wise”. I love this. The 4th track “Shemsu-Har”, begins with a voice from the tombs of the pharaohs, deep and dark, with a text out of the Book of the Dead. Together with the orchestral theme that follows, it would become a perfect song for a “Lord of the Rings” movie, or a theme tune you might hear at the entrance to a dangerous roller coaster ride in Disney World. A roaring guitar riff gives the song more credits. But this and “Nimrod” are, for me, the weakest tracks on the album. After this things get much more interesting as the ancient world vibes begin to come through. Slowly but surely you become part of it as the music envelops you in its exotic landscapes. One of the most beautiful pieces is Track 5, “Karum Kanesh” – a majestic theme with, again, great guitar work from Ashley Mulford. The haunting pipes and whistles of Troy Donockley give this melancholy masterpiece some extra atmospheric flourishes. Several more narrative songs about the ancient world follow, and they all have very clear and rich instrumentation, angelic backing vocals, strings and some truly sublime guitar work from Ashley, with Troy Donockley adding sprinklings of magic pipes and whistles throughout, as well as atmospheric Ebow guitar on “Aten” & “Akhiyawa”. This is a true symphonic work that follows musically and thematically on from previous Mandalaband albums released way back in the 70s. In the last song “Roots”, we hear from Woolly again, this time reminding me of Sting. Ah this is nice! This could be a song from a BJH album. Other bands which come into my mind, after hearing this classy piece of art, are the Alan Parsons Project (the "Pyramid" and "I Robot" era), the Moody Blues ("Days of Future Passed") and elements of Jeff Wayne. David Rohl took his time over this resurrection of Mandalaband and gathered some really fine musicians around him to paint a majestic landscape behind the unusual lyrics. I can easily imagine that the music of BC – Ancestors would fit perfectly as an epic film score. You’ll discover, again and again, little twists, melodic hooks, big overarching orchestral themes and pure rock interludes that make this album a real pleasure to listen to. For me, David Rohl, is indeed the modern day Indiana Jones of music and his fellow travelers in the Mandalaband III camel train deserve to be awarded the golden Uilleann Pipes as they go on their next adventure in search of the Holy Grail. Splendid! 8+ out of 10.
BC Ancestors (Oct '09) is dedicated to those Mandalaband members who are no longer with us; Ritchie Close (keys) (played in Camel), Mel Pritchard (drums), (BJH) Paul Young (vocals) (Sad Cafe, Mike & the Mecanics) and Phil Chapman (sax & flute). Credits:
David Rohl - writer engineer, producer, keyboards, guitars, piano, vocals, Ashley Mulford - guitars (Mandalaband I, Sad Cafe), Woolly Wolstenholme - keyboards, mellotron, (Mandalaband II, BJH & Maestoso), Kim Turner - drums & percussion (Mandalaband II & Maestoso), Troy Donockley - whistles, uilllian pipes, guitar, ebow, percussion, piano, (Iona) Jose Manuel Medina - keyboards, hammond, (Last Knight) Marc Atkinson - vocals, (Gabriel, Riversea), Geoffrey Richardson - viola (Caravan), Graig FLetcher - bass, (BJH), Barbara & Briony Macanas - vocals, Sergio Gracias Lajo - acoustic guitar, Emilio Gutierrez Steve Broomhead - guitar.
Ed Unitsky - artwork.

For the first time in human history, the North Pole can be circumnavigated. Melting ice opens up North-west and North-east passages simultaneously. Scientists warn Arctic icecap is entering a 'death spiral' Open water now stretches all the way round the Arctic, making it possible for the first time in human history to circumnavigate the North Pole, The Independent on Sunday can reveal. New satellite images, taken only two days ago, show that melting ice last week opened up both the fabled North-west and North-east passages, in the most important geographical landmark to date to signal the unexpectedly rapid progress of global warming. Last night Professor Mark Serreze, a sea ice specialist at the official US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), hailed the publication of the images – on an obscure website by scientists at the University of Bremen, Germany – as "a historic event", and said that it provided further evidence that the Arctic icecap may now have entered a "death spiral". Some scientists predict that it could vanish altogether in summer within five years, a process that would, in itself, greatly accelerate. source the independent

Hello,
Hope you all had a fab holiday season, here it went a bit different as we hoped for, but that's life. We're still smiling and filled with good memories.
Some of you know that i like to see bands in small venues and -oh- when David Gilmour gives a gig in the Royal Albert Hall, it's okay by me too ;-)
A few weeks back we, my whole family, went to see the Bad Shepherds at a folk festival (folkwoods Eindhoven). We aren't folk people, but jeemie what a great atmosphere.
On that day it was the anniversary of Woodstock... smiling people, great colours, kids running around, peaceful, people dancing, wonderful!
And yeah the music wasn't bad either, we enjoyed it, but the atmosphere was really top.
The Bad Shepherds played punk and new wave songs on an acoustic way; fidle, Uillian pipes and 2 guitars/ bass.
hope that they come back to the Netherlands, it was really fun and i would like to see the whole show.

Strange that you still remember the words of those classic songs. Althrough the arrangments where really different, from the Talking Heads till the Clash and of course
the Sex Pistols. Was great to meet the lonely Piper Troy Donockley. His cd, "the Madness of Crowds" is still one of
my favourite pieces of art. More world news of him will follow soon.
If you're 40+ (in age) and you got the change go and see the Bad Shepherds!
To bring everything in balance i went to Ulysses and Sons of Seasons. Heavy prog and metal... i was really surprised by SoS, it was far too loud for me,
but great songs structures, well performed, good show and it's always nice wenn the band tries to speak some lines in Dutch.
Simone Simons joined the band for one song:
By Jaak Geebelen.
This afternoon i'll go to Emiliana Torrini ;-) Think that is an other side of the spectrum.
Emiliana Torrini.
On Wednesday i'll go with my cousin to the Pretty Things
Dick Taylor left the Rolling Stones and joined the Pretty Things, because he thought; "they gonna be famous". It was 1962... and Dick still plays in the Pretty Things.
They have more Rock, more grooves, are heavier, more psychedelic, more bluesier and more guts then the Stones, and older...
David Gilmour joins the band so now and then, but not in Verviers i guess, maybe in London?
More info if MySpace allowes you to open a new window...
So i miss Iona tonight... Troy Donockley has quite the band so that is a reason to be not to sad,
but Joanna has one of the most beautifull voice in know ... gonna see them in Zwolle ;-)
I'm looking out to see:
08-10 Marillion in Heerlen.
17-10 Stream of Passion Muziekgieterij Maastricht
23-10 Iona Hedon Zwolle and maybe @ de Boerderij Zoetermeer
26-10 Riverside with Pineaple Thief @ the auw Kirk Bunde (awesome!)
This ia really beautiful spot; an old church, great acoustic.
The Auw Kirk
The Paradiso of the lovely South
It will be the opening of their Dutch tour tickets!
more gigs;
(28/10 Haarlem, 29/10 Leeuwarden, 30/10 Zwolle, 31/10 Uden, 01/11 Vosselaar)
& of course laterz, december; Mostly Autumn ;-)
You can get free tickets for all those shows at my place.
Competitions.
Of course i go to see Parzifals Eye in November, a solo project of Chris Postle, RPWL, with Ian Bairnson (ALan Parsons Project), Christina Booth (Magenta),
Alan Reed (Pallas). The cd is one of my new diamonds. Really good, with links to Genesis, Alan Parsons Stylish, a bit of Floyd of course some RPWL sounds, but Christina voice is fabulous, and Ian guitars licks are of the moon...
At my profile you can listen to their version of Chicago, a song from Graham Nash. David Gilmour, Chrissie Hynde & Bob Geldof did that cover too (clip is on my page too). Which one do you prefer?
Another release that grabbed me is Guitmachine of Arjen Lucassen; 9 out of 10 points.
Other cd's in my player: Parade
(solo project of Chris Johnson, Fish/ ex-Mostly Autmn), RPWL,
Sylvain, Illumnion &
Chicago.
Think was enough ramblings for today,
please keep smiling &
go out and see some bands,
Nick from the lovely South of the Netherlands.

This campagne is about Gary McKinnon, a young guy who managed to get access of computers of the Pentagon and Nasa.
He was convinced that the American gouverment had more info about green energy and UFO's.
As appeared he suffers a desease called "Asperge Syndrome", a kind of
autisme. Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, one of the world's leading experts in autism, consulted him and stated: he had
'no terrorist agenda' and as posing 'no harm to society'.
Probably he must live his life in the American jail....

Previously Unreleased Rod Stewart Track with John Paul Jones, David Gilmour to Emerge.
A song recorded in the summer of 1992 by Rod Stewart, David Gilmour and John Paul Jones will finally be released this September after more than 17 years of collecting dust.
The track is called In a Broken Dream, and it's a remake of the song Stewart first recorded in 1969 as a special guest vocalist for a band called Python Lee Jackson, which had crossed over from Australia to England.
Jeff Beck
Some of you noticed that Jeff Beck is on tour again. At hte Royal Albert Hall Gilmour joined him on stage.
Did you know that some Floyd members wanted to ask Jeff to join them wenn Syd turned loose?
Read here what Jeff remembers from that period.
David Gilmour and Guy Pratt can be heard on a
new song that's recorded for Greenpeace. The song is caled "Mayday".
Download it at this spot (4 free!).
Much-respected musician and producer Nick Laird-Clowes (Dream Academy), who has been a long-term collaborator (and in some cases, co-writer) with David Gilmour. He's been talking recently on social networking sites about the music he has just completed for a Greenpeace documentary about The Kingsnorth Six, which is set to go viral on the Greenpeace website from May 28th.
It is said to include a new song, 'Mayday' ("a meditation on street protest - circa '09") which Nick notes includes David Gilmour on backing vocals and guitar, and the "pounding" bass of Guy Pratt. More details of the documentary, which is directed by Nick Broomfield, as it emerges.
PS
Guy Pratt is now on tour in Australia with his comedie shows.
An in the time between he did guest performances with and African duo, Amadou and Mariam. A video of "No Way" from Davids first solo alnum ('78) you can find here.
With the ex-top model Kate Moss he played "Sumertime"... Info here.
Syd Barrett.
A new book looking at the life of Syd Barrett is to be published at the end of this month, on July 30th. Written by Bob Cairns, "Syd Barrett - Legend" traces his rise to stardom from an early age through to his tragic death in the summer of 2006. The book covers the story of the young, precocious talent from his early days in Cambridge, England, to the height of his fame as Pink Floyd became a 'Supergroup'. It charts his decline, but also tracks his incredible ability to produce whimsical lyrics coupled with a unique guitar style.
Details of the solo album recording sessions and the tireless efforts of David Gilmour to produce the records are discussed. The full lyrics to his solo material are reproduced for the first time within the body of any work.
The book also looks at his life when he finally left the London scene to become reclusive at the family home in Cambridge. His state of health, mentally, was speculated upon over many years and the book is said to put the record straight on this and other issues.
With considerable help with the book coming from Rosemary Breen, his sister, the book sounds an interesting proposition.
From Matt at BrainDamage the best Floyd site ;-)

If you like the old stylish Genesis, Mangenta, Credo, Landmarq, old Mariliion,Camel, Floyd etc etc. This is your album of the year!
Brilliant keyboards, soaring guitars and all melodic and catchy, but complex. Without becoming freaky. Mmm i love this kind of Music, ah maybe the licks to band like Genesis are over obvious, but it so well crafted...

You'll never be forgotten
You're always on my mind
I look into the mirror
A good friend is hard to find
Would anyone please tell me
If all was fixed before
This year spring comes to early
'cause God has failed once more
The pictures I have found
You're face looks still the same
Whenever I'm asleep
My heart will call your name
To tell about your life
Is all I can do for you
Your end has come to early...

David Gilmour joined duo Amadou and Mariam.
A unique performance in aid of the homeless charity, Crisis, took place at the Union Chapel, Highbury and Islington,

The special show was on Monday 25th May
at a secret venue in Central London;
ticket holders will be informed of the venue
details on the day prior to the show.
Amadou & Mariam, whose albums include Dimanche
à Bamako (Sunday in Bamako) and their latest,
Welcome to Mali, are huge David Gilmour fans
and were able to meet him at the Mojo Awards a couple
of years ago, so it was natural for Crisis to suggest
a musical collaboration between themselves and David
around their May 24th Jazz Café show. Crisis
will receive all proceeds from the 'hidden' May 25th
gig, which will include support acts, after which
Amadou & Mariam will play with their electric band
for around an hour, including a portion with David
Gilmour on guitar.

"The Madness of Crowds" a first impression.
A very powerful ambient movie soundtrack, but they forget the movie, but that is no problem, imagines will flow and dazzle in your head when you listen to it. The Madness of Crowds 8.54 Reeds 5.15 Exiled 5.16 Now, Voyager 9.13 The Procession 3.14 Orkahaugr 11.18 End of Faith 8.16
Torn from my face and from my heart, time has ended. Do I fall in love? Oh, I think I do My life is open, and open it will remain The world is alive.
Cast: in order of appearance: Troy Donockley: Uilleann Pipes, Low & High Whistles, Acoustic & Electric Guitars, Bouzouki, Keyboards, Mandolin, Percussion and voice. Joanna Hogg: Voice Nick Holland: Voice Brad Lang: Double Bass & Fretless Bass Frank van Essen: Violins, Viola, Drums & Percussion Rosie Biss: Cello Barbara Dickson: Voice Heather Findlay: Voice Harp: Lucy Muir Oboe: Daniel Gregg Clarinet: Peter Carter Flute: Vita Dowd Bassoon: Martin Vanderhoff Tuesday 21th of April 09. First reaction: The Madness of Crowds has arrived... please sssss i want to listen...
Latin words spoken by Troy at the beginning, and the service starts. Views from a cathedral. Joanna Hogg, an Irish angel is calling, and she has indeed one of the most astonishing pure voices ... you want to close your eyes and feel the beauty. It creeps under your skin, into your brain and slowly it takes over your heartbeat ... I see a vivid and colourful painted church ceiling, heavenly Music, cow bells, spoken words, more madness. Joanna uses her voice to paint a great feeling of romance. But there is more happening; strange creepy sounds that suggest there is more than peace in our world. The warm sound of a cello, haunting violin from Frank, Troy’s pipes are dancing, and the strings of the harp make you feel delighted. This is a kind of "tubular bells", but with moving and deep emotions. I close my eyes again ... a piano interlude, List & Rachmanoff in one hand, gathered with some dark celestial cello that takes you to a flight through a Tolkien-esque landscape filled with all the colours of the spectrum. But no! It's our own blue dot, that I see, and that we should take care of... Then I arrived at a procession, warm air, misty and heavy with moisture, closing in around me; I see fading shadows in the dawn, seeping along a narrow, dark. Medieval street, and a group of monks emerging in the weak early morning sun, pulling a coffin, and chanting: weird, more madness and a happily a guitar break takes me out of this surreal dream. Ah! And finally there she is; Heather Findlay in a smooth duet with Nick Holland... I feel more goose bumps on my skin, sprinkling echoes, a haunting theme is caring Heathers voice to a crystal blue sky, the bright side of the sun is shining but I'm freezing, and slowly I return to my own living room, to my own madness of crowds... I'm awake, eyes shut, wide open, fixed, and see my daughter smiling. Yep life is beautiful.
My dream? See this performed life in the Royal Albert Hall, this is a new classical album, the new Renaissance in Music. Resume: a very powerful album that will allow you to dream and see imaginary landscapes and pictures. Ambient rockin' with Celtic tunes and an almost classical approach, rich instrumentations with a fantastic bite and vibe. It brings you to worlds you never witnessed and back to this madness we live in. Troy is master on his pipes but he plays more; his guitar playing is excellent and how he easily he plays keyboards too! He's a great illusionist and with this piece of perfection he sails you to another dimension. Moody, dark and shining. Most of the tunes are instrumental, but certainly the 3 ladies, Joanna Hogg, Barbara Dickson & Heather Findlay are singing on their best and they give the cd an extra heavenly boost. It's hard to compare this, songs and or musicians that came in my mind were the song Castellorizon from David Gilmour, some older instrumentals from Alan Parsons, even some Peter Gabrielesque percussion patterns, the psychedlic Kate Bush and Emma Shapplin, Iona (of course), Excalibur II and the romantic sphere's of the Mandala Band. But is it fair to compare? Think Troy made an unique sounding album. The Artwork really is Art with a capital "A", never saw something like that! Amazing and perfectly in keeping with the music. A real gem. 10+ out of 10. Nick from the lovely South of... .

Joanna Hogg is of course from Iona. Barbara Dickson: Troy is her band member and they just finished a big tour in the UK. Heather Findlay is one of the mainforces of Mostly Autumn. Nick Holland played with Maddy Prior and also is band member of Barbara. Nowadays he play in Darwinswish. Brad Lang is know from ABC, Enigma, Ash, Robbie Wiliams, Whitney Houston, Kylie Minogue, Barbara Dickson, Toyah, John Parr and others. Frank van Essen is the flying Dutchman, know from Iona and indeed an excellent drumer and violin player. Rosie Biss is indeed a classical trained cellist.
More info here. 'End of Faith' And this is where we finish. We move beyond words, past the old cage of tradition, fear and doubt. Hope for a new and better world, illuminated by the memory of our great heroic forefathers, born again in ourselves. The age of Enlightenment. Will start a competition this week; and yep i'm allowed to give 2 copies away from this fantastic album. You can buy it here: www.troydonockley.co.uk. Friday.
Arriving in the late afternoon at Port Zelande, golden lighted birds were flying in magic beams of a shining sun which was slowly sinking.
At the entrance Graeme and Erik welcomed me. Ann-Marie Helder was standing in queue before us and so everything seemed to become a great weekend with friends. The band arrived an hour later, traffic jam, but that was nothing with the last time they came to the Netherlands…
Feeling home and shaking hands with them, we could hear Marillion starting their show, but teaming up and drinking beers was important too, so it became late.
Saturday.
A coffee and a long walk on the beach in a bright sun, yes it came back behind us again ;-) made me feel a lot better.
Believe we all were impressed by the big stage and tent … anyway the Marillion crew was great.
The Wishing Tree did a nice smooth set and the crowd slowly got awake.
However the Reasoning kicked asses with their new opening of “Awakening”, me just 5 meters from the stage could feel the vibe of the 2.500 people behind me. The applause and a “happy birthday to Rachel” was really Top. I really was impressed by their set and energetic performance. And yes mad dog Owain on guitar is a new diamond aswell. But the most credits went to the 3 voices of the Reasoning, which makes their music really special and unique.
After leaving the stage empty and put all the gear back in the van, we went to see Marillion. My first Marillion gig after 21 years… and it was a perfect show, Hogarth and his team are craftsmen and understand was is needed to entertain 2.500 people. The lightshow was unbelieveable stunning. And although I wasn’t familiar with the songs I was absolutely pleased to see this event. And when they started to play the oldie “Garden Party” I was finally singing and even more smiling.
Sunday.
Meting friends from Finland, Spain, Italy (Ross & Gianfranco (thx for the best pics!)), the U.K., my own home Town (Jan you piper!), Andy Smith (Mostly Autumn), Bart, Bert, Janke & Stuart, having some beers, enjoying Ann-Marie Helder and seeing some Marillion again. What can go wrong?
Monday
The time is gone, the party is over… .
Yep happiness was on the road when I drove home, home again.
Sadly knowing that I will miss this bunch of fantastic people for a long time.
So thanks Rachel, Big Dave, Graeme, Vinden, Owain, Gareth, Dyaln & Matthew see you on the road again!
I know you had a great time too and hope you will remember the daffodils and laughs ;-)

Gazpacho
Sorry we missed the pre pre suport band Steve Merlin, Mindpark was the next and i was impressed by these young gentlemen. Nice songs, top smooth guitar work and good harmonies.
Gazpacho did a wonderful moody set and the audience got in trance and enjoyed the trip in the Norweign mountains, highlands and fjords. Beautiful arragements and dreamy tunes. They played a few songs from the new album "Tick Tock" and they were well recieved. Believe they played everything of "Night". The use of violin added some extra wide landscapes to the set.
Nice gig, dreamy and moody, no extravaganza on the stage, just smooth and relaxed.
I was really please with them.

Fridaynight “nieuwe Nor” Heerlen 3th of April
Mostly Autumn.
Normally I try to attend all the Dutch shows, but if you’ve a family sometimes you’ve to choose for them, so I skipped the P60 gig… family business is important ;-)
Blue sky, a sun brightly and warm, so what could go wrong?
From the Judge, the guitar technician, I heard that the gig yesterday in P60 was one of the best ever “… the band is on fire..”. But he didn’t told me what happened this morning…

de nieuwe nor April the 3th 2009.
The intro of “Heart Full of Sky” filled the venue and the band came on stage, Iain Jennings, Ann-Marie-Helder, Liam Davison, Gavin Harisson, Olivia Sparnenn, Andy Smith, Bryan Josh and… “?!?” no Heather Findlay… mmm some people noticed it, some not…
Yep Heather had urgent family business and flew home in the morning. Unexpected…
The first 2 songs Olivia, who did the lead vocals, was searching, her voice grew, Dave the sound engineer did a marvellous job. The sound was really superb… scad quality.
And Bryan explained that Heather took a plane back to home; family business. Yep that can happen. And although Heather has her charisma and is together with Bryan the face of Mostly my personal feeling was; “Okay we write history tonight, give them a chance”. And yes they took the change, Bryan was indeed in flames, solo’s as diamonds came out his strat.
And the band was there, working hard, maybe they had the urge to compensate the absence of Heather, I don’t know, but yeah there was an extra vibe on stage and the sound was indeed absolute in Saints. Brilliant, and did I mention that Bryan was giving a way solo’s from a unearthly quality? That guy Rocks.
So yes I missed Heather, her looks, her warm voice, but yes I had a great gig and I was glad I saw the band surviving. The “nieuwe Nor” wrote history with an enthusiastic crowd and a band that survived.
“Turn it On again”, was their last encore a cover from a band that lost their face and voice and even went bigger after that, this is not the case with Mostly, Heather will return, sometimes family business are more important… please turn it on again!

At backgroundmagazine.nl a review and more pics.
A day later Olivia started with absolute more confidence and by her first stroke she smashed the audience and I believe I heard some glasses break. She has pure and high voice.
Tears in my eyes with "Pocket Watch" ... shine on you crazy diamond.
Did i mentioned that the band was in flames? The whole band including the crowd? Did i mentioned that BJ was indeed a better looking Jon Bon Bovie, with the looks of Jon Davie Gilmour (in his early days) and the fingers of Mr. Blackmore?
Yes he was fab ... they all were..
What more to say about the gig; soaring guitars, a lot (also from the quite genius Liam), loaded drums, subtile keyboards and that pretty looking dreamish flute from Ann Marie that carry your emotions to a higher level. And our dear Livvy gave some people really the shivers with her crystal clear voice. Certainly during her guitar duel with her love at "Never the Rainbow". Happily they had plastic cans instead of glasses, else a lot more of them would be broken.
The band got some emotional points, during “Evergreen”, “Heroes” and “Tearing the Fairy taele”, and the crowd loved it.
Bryan announced the band during a slow intro of Turn it on Again (a cover from Genesis), the band peaked, the audience was singing a long and the party was over.

PS Gavin ;-) Yes you could see that his girlfriend was arround .. lol!!!!
Thx indeed one of the best gigs... and that without Heather, unbelieveable but true, the band was in flames.

After, Quidam & Pure Reason Revolution.
After was nice, not really impressed by them, but okay, think they tried to give a good show. Quidam was really good, wanted to see their set
last longer, nice Prog with flute and great songs and some winks to our heroes from the past (Riders on the Storm and Hush). Boys who understand how to
play. And they had the guts to add some jazzy tunes in their songs aswell, yep good band.
But Pure Reason Revolution was the band of the night with a mix of metal, avant-garde industrial & danceable proggy tunes. Something new and refreshing.
Okay their stage act could have had more going on, but the music was really interesting. Their last CD is notable for the fresh wind that runs through
the music. They used a lot of samples and tapes and that is dangerous, but they did it well, I was really impressed. Mmm… A band to keep an eye on. Top
band, top evening.
PS about their stage act; I noticed that they used videos in the Boerderij and probably that made it more interesting, in Kerkrade there was no room for
videos.

Old fashioned Prog, great musicians. Nice smooth show and a mix of Genesis and Camel stylish music. Sadly we missed Heidi Jo Jones, who was
present in de Boerderij, but not in de Rocktemple. Think she could add something more fresh and news to their show. But; yep i was impressed; well done.

They really rocked the boat, sparkling performance by Christina and the lads. This Welsh Prog Goddess really knows how to set the crowd on fire. Rob Reed the keyboard wizard is the main creative force on the Magenta team, but Chris Fry on lead guitar is given space to deliver some astonishing solos.
They played some classics from their album Seven and some shorter songs from their latest, Metamorphosis - only 22 minutes long! It's a shame they don't
tour more, 10 out of 10 for their show! Magenta is indeed the colour of Prog.
Magenta:
Kieran Bailey: drums
Christina Booth: vocals
Colin Edwards: guitar
Chris Fry: guitar
Dan Fry: bass
Rob Reed: keys, vocals

A mix of well crafted Prog and Rock made a good impression on the 90 people who attended the festival. Sometimes funny, sometimes emotional and always holding a high musical standard. Kalle Wallner like Chris Fry is a great guitarist, with his own unique style. Kalle laid down some fab solos. And Markus on keys freaked a few times and proved he's more then just a keyboard player. Tight drums, rumbling bass and a Yogi who can certainly do some transcendental tricks. What more do you want? Only a longer set on a bigger stage, with their creepy videos!
