Current mood:  determined
Category: Music
Surely...steadily...the four songs we're working on for our new EP are getting populated with guitar tracks. :-)

I went first, and now we've got an interesting carpet of guitar rhythms woven with beats.  My beautiful teal blue Rickenbacker did an amazing job!!

Now Martijn gets to work his magic...distorted guitars and guitars with delay and guitars played through filters and guitars awash with reverb....

We have a pre-production session scheduled for the first week of Sept. with our producer, so we're on a deadline to get all these basic tracks done by this Wednesday. Actually...I better get back to work! ;-))

Cheers,
Susane

Current mood:  stoked
We just laid down the beats for the first song we're recording for the upcoming EP..."Miles Away"!!! I'm pumped! We're underway!

It's been this whole past spring in the works and it's super cool after a lot of hard work to start hearing the results through our mix speakers. There's definitely a lot more hard work to come, but it's really satisfying to have taken that first step.

Just my biased opinion, but I think it's sounding great already! ;-)

I wanted to keep you all posted--especially everyone who's been asking how the new material is coming. Check back...I'll be keeping you updated here.

We're also thinking of maybe starting a twitter feed--a little "studio diary"--for anyone who wants to follow the blow by blow. :-) Lemme know if you like the idea!

Cheers,
Susane

Current mood:  inspired
One of our good friends was having a birthday bash this past Saturday night and asked us to play. We thought it would not only be fun, but an excellent way to test out some of the new stuff we've been working on over the past couple of months.

After Martijn did some emergency troubleshooting of a few glitches that popped up last minute with the computer trigger for our new loops (tech man rocks!), we were off and running! The room was packed and we were excited to see how it would go.

I'm happy to say that the set definitely confirmed for me that we're moving in the right direction! :-)) The beats were cool, people seemed to dig the new songs, and the new PS sound overall. And we LUV playing the new stuph!

The crowd was awesome and Martijn and I want to thank each and every person who listened, grooved, and showed us so much support!

Here's the set we played on Saturday...some looped up versions of songs you might know and some never-been-performed material brand shiny new:

Here
Walls of Thorns
For the Press
Tangled
Miles Away

We're pumped for the next couple of months as we get more material ready for prime time and record some of these songs for our new EP!

Stay tuned....

Cheers,
Susane

Holiday benefit show on Dec. 12 to support Local's Only Radio's Rock 4 Kids Charity. We're teaming up with The Vicious Martinis and Local's Only Radio on Fri., Dec. 12 at Asylum to benefit the kids at the Children's National Medical Center. In the spirit of the season, come out and help make a difference for these children by bringing a new toy to donate to Dr. Bear's Toy Closet.

Put a Smile on a Child's Face: Donate to Dr. Bear's Toy Closet

Every year, Children's National Medical Center collects new toys and games to make each patient's stay in the hospital during the holidays just as special as if they were at home. A well-stocked Dr. Bear's Toy Closet ensures that every patient has a gift for holidays, birthdays, and most importantly, a little something to serve as a reward for their courage in fighting an illness. From crayons to handheld electronic games to air hockey tables, any and all donations of new toys are needed and welcomed.

Dr. Bear's Toy Closet also needs monetary donations and gift cards to purchase overlooked items for patients and their families who will be in the hospital during the holidays. Checks should be made payable to Children's National Medical Center/Dr. Bear's Closet.

We'll be collecting donations the night of the show. Your gift is greatly appreciated and very much needed. Please come out and bring a toy or other contribution, large or small. Even a dollar can help.

Toys need to be brand new, unopened, and unwrapped because of the hospital's infection control requirements.

Children's National Medical Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which means your donation is tax-deductible.

Plastic Sky working on a new EP. December and January will be quiet months performance-wise as we focus on recording new music. We're planning on four songs with our new line-up...Susane, Martijn, some guitars, and a computer....Have we got you curious? Release date: hopefully February 09!

It's so cool when you see something that really inspires you. This is the third year that Wes Lee and Locals Only Radio is running their annual Rock4Kids December event, with bob headlining. It's going to be an excellent night of music and good cheer...all to benefit kids who have to be in the hospital over the holidays.

This post is from Susane. I'm hoping that whoever reads our blog in the DC area will mark their calendars for Sat., Dec. 20 at the State Theater. Gifts for Dr. Bear's Closet at the Children's National Medical Center will be collected the night of the show. They should be unopened and unwrapped...crayons, Play Doh, and handheld electronic games are a few examples of needed toys. Please show your support for the kids at Children's Hospital and get in the holiday spirit by bringing a donation.

Unfortunately, I have to be out of town on the 20th, so I have to miss this great event. :-(( But we're hoping to coordinate our show at Asylum on Dec. 12 with Wes's benefit so that we can add to the contributions. More on this soon....

In the meantime, here's the info for the Rock4Kids show.

It's election day eve in the U.S....and I'm hearing "No Words" in my head.

I'm cynical. But please vote. It matters....at least I hope it does.

Plastic Sky on The Capital Scene podcast. We're on this week's episode of The Capital Scene! This is an awesome podcast dedicated to promoting and supporting the DC-area music scene. With all the great bands and music happening in this area, it's super cool to have a show especially focused on getting local music to the ears of the fans and announcing upcoming shows at area clubs. Log on to these guys first for all you need to know about bands in and around DC.We're on Episode 19. You can also visit the Cap Scene's myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/thecapitalscene and friend them there.

Photos from our benefit show at the Electric Maid are up. We had a great time and met some very cool people at the benefit show we played at the beginning of the month at the Electric Maid in Takoma Park. Joey Von, the bass player from Cherry Darling, turned out to also be a rockin' photographer! He snapped some excellent shots. We posted them in our myspace page photo gallery.

A new look for the Plastic Sky myspace page coming soon. We're revamping the page with a new look and new features. Stay tuned...

We're really excited! Now that we're out getting our feet wet in clubs all around DC and NOVA, we could send our stuph to the Capital Scene. It's a weekly podcast all about the D.C. area music scene, featuring the local bands playing that week.

With our show at Galaxy Hut this week (MONDAY--hope to CU there!), we're on this week's program (episode 16)!

Here are their links:
http://www.myspace.com/thecapitalscene
http://thecapitalscene.podbean.com/

Spread the word about the show! They're really supporting the local music scene. And check back every Wednesday when they upload a new episode to highlight the bands playing that week.
