hey guys-recently, i have blogged pretty candidly about some personal issues i'm having. i have made said blogs semi-private-making them viewable by only my close-knit circle of friends and a few family members. within this tight-knit circle, are several very exceptional friends i met online on teamceline-celine dion's official fan club.
have you ever had friends online who you felt were more than just caual? my relationships with these people are so much more and so much deeper than instant messeges, forum posts, and e-mails. we get pretty personal on those forums. what made me want to blog about this is that i tagged aa bunch of my friends in a recent facebook note. one of my tc friends, teresa, and she was touched by my tagging her in such a personal note when i don't even know her. i wanted to blog, and tell all my teamceline friends that even though we've never met in person, i DO know you. i know your hearts, your strong, loving, beautiful spirits. i know that you are loving faitful friends who offered prayers, love, and heartfelt e-mails to a young friend in need. i love you, my fellow TC'ers. i feel that we are so much more than just celine dion fans...so much more than just friends...we are a global family. i pray that we will all be able to take that all important trip to vegas to see celine's show together. i am so blessed to call you my friends. i can't wait to meet you all!!!!!! GOD BLESS!-fallon

hey all-on facebook, i have listed the "vh1 save the music" foundation as my favorite cause. the foundation donates brand new musical instruments, music stands, other music equiptment, and money to public schools across the country to support music education in schools. as a musician and a future teacher, i believe music is a VITAL part of a child's education. music has lasting academic, mental, emotional, and social benefits for all people-especially kids.

one of the foundation's biggest public events is the vh1 divas live concert. this event is a one-night only concert where vh1 gathers some of the most celebrated and talented female singers in the industry. the concert is performed live for a packed house of music industry insiders. it is broadcasted live on vh1 and is recorded for dvd and cd release. all proceeds from ticket sales, cd and dvd sales, and commercial revenue is donatated directly to the foundation.

past divas have included grammy winners mariah carey, celine dion, whitney housten, tina turner, chaka khan, and legends like singer/songwriter carole king and aretha franklin, among others.

after a four year break, vh1 divas live is coming back on september 17, 2009.

this year's line-up, according to an e-mail i got  from vh1 includes:
grammy-winner adele
x-factor winner and singer/songwriter leona lewis
american idol winner and multi-platinum-selling singer kelly clarkson
and....

MILEY CYRUS!!!!!!

anybody else see something wrong with this picture? since when is a manufactured hyped up product of the disney machine a singer, let alone a DIVA??????!!!!!! i
don't get me wrong, i have the deepest respect for disney. i think walt disney, alan menken, tim rice, and steven schwartz are all geniuses. i grew up with the movies and music, and i proudly collect disney-everything from the films to the soundtracks to mugs and snowglobes.

however, i have NO respect for the "disney machine". every time the disney channel has a new show, suddenly the tween stars (who are at best just ok actors) have recording contracts, book deals, feature films, etc. all because they work for the disney machine. what happened to the days when a performer had to WORK for their big break? the only decent product of the disney machine, in my opinion, is hilary duff. she is a great young actress, and has grown out of the "lizzie macguire" stage quite nicely. unlike the others, she actually has a voice too.

what has miley cyrus done to deserve to be called a DIVA? sure, she's sold platinum records, but they've all been soundtracks to her annoying little t.v. show and movie spin-offs. since when is THAT an album?

i guess the reason why this gets under my skin so much is because i personally know musicians who are exceptionally talented. these people are singers, songwriters, pianists, guitarists, and composers. they are all working their butts off. some of them are raising their kids, working dead end jobs, going to college, and writing songs and playing gigs on the weekends. they would all give up a limb to have HALF the success these kids are having. but they can't have that kind of success because ithey are regular, ordinary, every day people who don't have the right connections or enough money to fully support their music careers.

bottom line: hiring miley cyrus for the divas concert is an insult to the music industry.-fallon

we were celebrating my little sister's 12th birthday when my brother got the text. i thought it was one of those stupid spam things. then, my mom called 20 minutes later. when i called her back, she gave me the news. i'm not going to lie. i cried. hell, i'm still crying.
i have been singing for as long as i can remember. michael jackson was one of the first artists i latched onto. he was one of the first songwriters who inspired me. so much of his music is a part of me. he had such an influence on my music that it's hard not to cry. on some level, artist to artist, i sort of feel as though i've lost a friend. does that make sense to anybody? do i sound crazy? even if i do, i honestly don't care.
on one hand, i feel stupid because i didn't even have the honor of meeting him or going to one of his shows. but music....it's a love that runs so deep. if you are a musician, you'll understand. when you're young and you are trapped in a weak body that never does what you need it to and you feel like you're a mile behind everyone else you know, you have 2 choices. get depressed and lose your mind or find a healthy way to express yourself.
i chose the latter. for so many years, music was my one and only outlet for everything that i thought, experienced, and felt. and when you find a musician who touches your soul...somebody who makes you smile when you want to cry, somebody who gives you the song to express the magic of your first love, you develop a unique bond with that person. even though you don't know them, their music becomes a part of you. i will miss michhael jackson dearly. his poignant, socially-concious, lyrics, gorgeous melodies, and one-of-a-kind rhythms will continue to inspire this singer/songwriter till the day i die. i will forever be in his debt as an artist. his work inspired some of my best work. and i pray that his family understands that there are a million more musicians who feel the same way i do. god bless the jackson family in this difficult time.
love,

hey guys-just wanted to let you know about a great new album i found on itunes. actor and comedian, wayne brady (the guy from "who's line is it anyway?" and "don't forget the lyrics") released his first album "a long time coming" last year. i remember watching him with dad on "who's line" in middle school and loving it when drew would make him come up with songs on the spot. i i always thought he should have a recording contract.  finally, his album is here, and it surpassed all my expectations.
it's an album that pays homage to classic, soulful r&b. he co-wrote four songs on the cd: f.w.b (friends with benefits), back in the day, i ain't movin', and you and me. the album is excellent from start to finish. brady holds nothing back on his debut. he shows off his powerful vocals nicely, without making the mistake of oversinging or sounding like he's trying too hard. he seems just as comfortable singing as he is acting. he's a natural. check it out!-fallon

hey all-so i haven't blogged in an eternity, but something happened today that made me want to.

have you ever felt like a close realitive who has passed away is somehow still with you?

my aunt kathy was my best friend in the whole world. when i was four, she was in a devistating car accident that left her disabled for the rest of her life. aunt kath was the first person in my life who totally understood me in every way. she knew why i would cry over little things like not being able to open a door by myself. she understood why i threw all that i had into my music and writing. because i wasn't able to do so much, i wanted to be the absolute best singer, poet, and songwriter i could be. she was the first person i'd go to when ineeded advice. when we'd go out, people would ask if she was my mom. we were that close. she was a singer, a pianist, a writer, and so much more. she meant the world to me....always has and always will.

she was quite the accomplished seamstress. when i was little she made this awesome teddy bear out of fabric with music notes and roses on it. she covered the inside of it ears and the underside of its paws with this soft pink satiny fabric. i used to always play with it when i was little.

when we moved into this house, there was still a bunch of stuff left over from when my aunts lived here. the room that is now mine and kayla's used to be aunt kathy's. one of the things that was left behind was the bear. when we found it, i cried. it was pretty beat up. stuffing was coming out, and it wasn't exactly clean.

today was pretty rough. i was in bed with yet another migraine most of the day, and when i woke up. there it was all clean and patched up laying next to me on the bed. it's funny how little things like that can cheer you up. it may seem stupid for a 21 year old to be blogging about a bear, but it means so much to me that i just had to tell you all.-fallon

Mentally Disabled Forced Into 'Fight Club' at Texas Home

Night Shift Made Cell Phone Videos of Residents at Facility in Corpus Christi

By ANGELA M. HILL, JOSEPH RHEE and BRIAN ROSS

May 12, 2009—

Terrified residents at a Corpus Christi, Texas, state school for the mentally disabled were forced to be part of a brutal "fight club" operated by night shift employees, who made videos of the sessions with their cell phones, the newly released videos show.

On the videos employees can be seen and heard laughing and prodding the residents to fight.

Watch "Nightline" at 11:30 p.m. ET for Brian Ross' full report.

One resident is seen on the video trying to run away from his attacker and a large group of employees and residents tracking him through the halls. When cornered, he wails and moans and tells the employees, "I will behave."

The videos were discovered by police in March when one of the school employees left his phone at a hospital and it was turned over to police. In an effort to find its owner, officers saw the disturbing videos.

A judge ordered the tapes released to an attorney suing the state on behalf of a former resident also forced into the "fight club."

"It happened for over a year and it happened for many nights out of the week," said the attorney, Bob Hilliard.

Hilliard's client, Armando Hernandez, says he was told he would "go to prison" if he did not fight.

Hernandez, who is mentally disabled, says he was fearful to even tell his mother of what was happening inside at night.

"They say 'snitches get stitches,'" Hernandez told ABC News.

A judge ordered police to provide the tapes to Hilliard on Friday for use in his lawsuit against the state, without any restriction on their use. They were played twice in open court.

"There are no words as strong as the faces of these residents," Hilliard said. "It's a place past fear. It's a place where they have almost accepted that the school where they're locked into could very well end up being a coffin for them."

A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, which oversees the state schools, says the agency was "shocked and disgusted by the unconscionable actions of a few employees." Spokesperson Cecilia Fedorov said the department has taken a number of steps to "stop this kind of abuse again," including hiring additional security and increased supervision of night shifts.

Former Employees Indicted, Charged With Causing Injury to a Disabled Person

Six former employees were indicted last Thursday on charges of causing injury to a disabled person.

Prosecutors identified the ring leader as Timothy Dixon, 30, who police say can be heard on the video calling the play-by-play of the fight as if he were a ring announcer.

Dixon and the others are to make their first appearance in court at an arraignment hearing next week.

The cell phone videos are the latest example of troubling conditions at the 12 Texas schools for the developmentally and mentally disabled.

More Than 800 Employees Suspended for Abusing Facility Residents

A federal civil rights investigation, completed last December before the cell phone videos were discovered, found that more than 800 employees had been suspended or fired "for abusing facility residents" since 2004.

The federal report, sent to Texas Governor Rick Perry, concluded, "numerous conditions and practices at the Facilities violate the constitutional and federal statutory rights of their residents."

Perry, a Republican, introduced "emergency legislation" in February designed to make the state schools safer.

Some state legislators say the problems began with Perry administration budget cuts in 2003 that reduced money for health and human services in Texas.

"I think what you are starting to see now are the negative effects of those decisions," said State Representative Abel Herrero, a Democrat who represents Corpus Christi.

A spokesperson for Governor Perry told ABC News the governor was too busy dealing with the state legislature to provide an interview on the new cell phone videos.

this is truly the most disgusting thing i've ever seen!!!!! there needs to be a SERIOUS overhaul of all the schools in texas for the mentally-challenged. the story i saw on abc's "world news now" said that there have been complaints of abuse at ALL of texas' state schools for the mentally-challenged. if you watch the video, you'll see that the residents are being treated like animals.-fallon

hey,
ok, so one of the admins on teamceline started a thread called "what celine song describes your life right now?" so i thought about it, and here's what i said:

i'd have to say the songs that describe my life right now are "taking chances", "faith", and "one heart". there are severl reasons why i chose these songs.

i chose "taking chances" because my best friends and i are all at a sort of cross roads in our lives. my best friend, jenny, is madly in love with a great guy she's known since high school, and she's seriously considering moving to chicago to be closer to him. my best friend, cassie, is graduating high school next month, and will be moving to laffyette, indiana to go to a small community college there, and later transfer to purdue. she wants to become a doctor and specialize in treating cystic fibrosis. she's also head over heels with one of her best friends. i am transferring to a larger, private, christian college in my hometown to start classes in my major-music education. (FINALLY!) i'm also planning on moving out of my dad's house, and getting my own apartment, complete with a cat. none of us knows what will happen, so it makes me think, "what do you say to taking chances/what do you say to jumping off the edge/never knowing if there's solid ground below/or a hand to held/or hell to pay/what do you say".

i chose "faith" because of the lines "you gave me a sign/and opened my eyes/and that's the reason why i know/that you are different/you're still here/i guess you figured me out right there/now i believe that we can make it through/and that's called faith/right beside you is where i'll stay" my girls and i have been through A LOT-divorced parents, medical problems, death of friends and family, etc. but i know no matter where they are, or what they're doing. neither one of them will EVER forget to call or e-mail. they are both like sisters to me, and i know they feel the same way about me. that's how i know that they'll be right there with me-no matter how many miles seperate us.

i thought of "one heart" because, we are all-in one way or another-following our dreams. jenny has been in love with her boyfriend for YEARS, and he finally wrote her a letter and asked her out. cassie has wanted to stop cf ever since her friend passed away because of it. i have wanted to be a choir teacher since i was 13. things are finally coming together for all of us. it's exciting and nerve-wrecking, and amazing all at the time. but whatever happens, i know i have two "sisters" who love me more than i could possibly imagine, and that makes everything a lot less scary, and much more incredible.

i love you, cass and jen!

love,
fallon

What musical tastes reveal…

By Bob Strauss

There comes a time in every dater’s life when he happens to glance at the CD rack (or iPod play list) of the gal he’s dated two or three times and instantly knows: It Is Not Going To Work. I once made an excuse for a quick exit when I glimpsed (out of the corner of my eye, from the couch) a Billy Joel box set, and I’m sure the gal in question would’ve done the same if she’d seen my collection of historical Arturo Toscanini recordings. (Of course, in my view, Arturo Toscanini is objectively more talented than Billy Joel. That’s the thing about how we all feel about music—what I like speaks to my taste and intelligence, while what you like means you’re a benighted lowbrow.)

So what does your taste in music convey to the opposite sex? Read on:

Classic rock. “If a guy likes classic rock, he’s going to be very middle of the road,” says April Masini, author of Date Out of Your League. “This isn’t a bad thing—in fact, classic-rock listeners make great partners. They go for the normal things in life, like dinner and a movie, a two-story house in the suburbs with an SUV or station wagon, a couple of kids and a dog.” And what about a gal who likes ’70s hair bands? “She’s in denial of the aging process and may have general image issues,” says Andrew Feinstein, coauthor of Opening Lines, Pinky Probes and L-Bombs: The Girls & Sports Dating and Relationship Playbook. “Be prepared for a lot of ‘Oh, you look fantastic’ pep talks throughout the relationship.”

Heavy metal. “Watch out for hidden anger issues,” Masini says. “Most guys who are into heavy metal aren’t necessarily tattooed and pierced; they may just as well be suited and coiffed. But the songs, the melodies and the rhythms of heavy metal are aggressive and overpowering on purpose. You may be surprised in bed, in a good or a bad way.” Speaking for the distaff side, Feinstein says, “She hates her parents, and if you’re a nice guy, she’ll hate you, too. The good news is that she’s probably hard of hearing, so you can get away with saying things like ‘What do you mean I can’t go to Vegas with the guys this weekend? I told you I was going weeks ago!’”

Country. “If a guy likes country music,” says Masini, “chances are that he’s sentimental and romantic. He’s got a moral compass and clear ideas of what’s right and what’s wrong. He also knows that breaking hearts, and getting them broken, are part of life.” And what about women who favor this kind of music? “She’s a good girl from the heartland, so you’re not getting any action anytime soon,” says Feinstein. “You may want to consider square-dancing lessons.”

Classical. Take it from your writer: Everyone knows that single guys with huge classical music collections (especially ones featuring Arturo Toscanini) are uncommonly smart, sensitive, and good you-know-where. And seriously, based on my own experience, single women who like classical music tend to be very smart, because they often come by their interest from having mastered an instrument in their childhood years.

Now that you’ve plowed through the points above, here’s the fine print, courtesy of Feinstein: “It doesn’t really matter what a guy’s musical tastes are and what they mean for his dating life, because he won’t unveil his true interests until he’s already hooked up with someone. The fact is, when a guy meets a girl, he’ll just play whatever music he thinks might get her in the mood.” Strike up the band!

#63  PRINCESS

I am a princess
A beautiful, prized jewel in the Eyes of my Father-
The King

My Father loves without limit
Without measurement
Without doubt

He will love me
Untill the end of time and back again
Throughout everything I have ever done
Or ever will do
He loves me not because I have earned it
But simply because I am His

I am a princess
A precious little lady
Who is meant for greatness

I can come to my Father
Anytime of day or night
No matter the thoughtsr
Weighing on my mind

I am a princess
Who has been given gifts
Meant just for me
No one else in the world has the exact gifts I do
My Father loves me that much
I am that precious

I am a princess
I am part of the largest kingdom the world has ever seen
My Father told me and my brothers and sisters
To tell you about Him
His name is Jesus

I am a princess
A beautiful, prized jewel in the eyes of my Father-
The King
And you can be His princess too

                                                   Fallon Marie

i wrote this poem yesterday morning after i read megan's blog "hungery for jesus!!" she talked about how they had a speaker at chapel (bethel's on campus church) who was talking to the women about how they are princesses because they are daughters of Christ. I thought, "wow, a princess? i've never thought about it that way!" and then this just sort of spilled out of me.-fallon

hey guys-i have a serious question for all of you. how can britney spears, miley cyrus, and all the other manufactured "singers" created by the media have successful careers, while musical excellence like THIS and ESPECIALLY THIS and THAT are generally ignored by the music lovers of the world???
seriously, she's WAY more talented than people give her credit for. the second song was written for a movie. not only did this multi-talented actress co-star in the film, she also sang the theme song and SHE HELPED WRITE IT!! plan to be pleasantly surprised and enjoy! feel free to leave your comments about the videos!-fallon

hey all-no, i'm not talking about oprah. (although she is supposed to have an INCREDIBLE episode on today!) i'm talking about www.overstock.com . you know what i'm talking about, right? it's like an online wal-mart! anyway, back to my reason for blogging.
as many of you know, i collect disney. hence, my oh-so-cute layout! i am a member of the disney movie club, and i have been ever since i moved out of my mom's house. (www.disneymovieclub.com) i love it! it's realitively cheap, convieniant, and i get exclusive offers there that i can't get anywhere else. this is especially valuable for me since i am a collector.
back in january, i got the usual monthly mailing with the movie catalog. january's featured movie was "the little mermaid" trilogy. "the little mermaid" is my all-time favorite movie, and the collector's edition set was being offered with 3 free lithographs. (la lithograph is a copy of disney studio art. depending on how they are framed, they can sell for anywhere from $40-$80. the originals go for $500.) i happily sent in my order for all 3 movies plus the art.  the movies were going into the vault at the end of the month, and i didn't want to miss them. i couldn't wait to get it in the mail.
when it comes to disney, i tend to go a little overboard. it took me a couple of payments before they could ship any of my new orders. i called last month to make sure they were still holding that order for me. the lady said everything was fine.
my last payment came through on my birthday, and i got an e-mail saying that they were shipping my latest order-which oddly was NOT my little mermaid movies. so i called to check on it. i was told that they can only hold orders for three months, and then the system deletes any unpaid orders. so basically, my copy is locked up in the disney vault! i spent the next hour on the phone trying to track down this ccollector's edition set.
just when i was about to give up, i checked www.overstock.com, and hit the jackpot!!! ha!!! take that stupid vault! lol!-fallon

hey all-sorry i haven't been blogging much. i have a migraine STILL!!! (it started at 9 this morning.) so i was in bed untill after bryan and kayla got home from school.
i turned 21 on monday, so mom, dad, bryan, kk, and me all went to olive garden for dinner. it was sooo nice!!! i had the shrimp and chicken carbanara. and yes, i did sample the pinot gricio wine. i didn't like it though. it was waaay too strong. i only had a few sips. thanks to all my friends and family who left me sweet comments and e-mails here and on facebook! i love you guys! i have the greatest friends a girl could ask for!
the reason i'm blogging is to let all of you know that i'm planning a little get together with my friends at applebee's this weekend. you're all invited, but if you can't make it, it's ok. i'm thinking we'll make it for saturday afternoon. if that's not going to work for some of you, let me know, and  t'll see what can be done. the only thing is that i'm going to have to ask everybody to pay for themselves. i'm really sorry about that, but i can't afford to pay for everybody. the reason why i picked applebee's is because i wanted some place neutral, because some of you will want to drink and some won't. i wanted to make sure none of you felt left-out. it will probably be at the one on grape. i'm planning creating a myspace and facebook event, so i can e-mail people individually. hope to see you there! love you all!-fallon

hey guys-for those of you who don't know www.teamceline.com is celine dion's official online fanclub. i've been a member for almost a year, and have made some great friends there.
while there a few days ago, i responded to a thread called "how it all started" that asked all of us to tell the story of how we became fans. i talked about my passion for music and how i learned celine's song "because you loved me" when i was little. i also mentioned that i've been writing songs for a few years.
a couple days later, i get an e-mail from a man named dana. he told me he was visually impaired and that my story had somehow "inspired" him to start singing. he then explained that he had a song he had been working on and asked if i could help. so i'm helping him rework some lyrics. and since he doesn't have a keyboard yet, i'm going to ATTEMPT to write some decent music.
i have the lyrics, but won't post them here because i feel songwriting is a very personal process. besides, they are dana's original lyrics, and i'm not sure he'd be comfortable having them posted.-fallon
