On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy had on Rob Polevoi, a chocolate expert who has created a unique beverage called brewed chocolate. Rob researched the drinks that ancient Mexicans, who were fascinated by chocolate used to drink. He experimented with all sorts of variations until he discovered the recipe that is available now which uses the cocoa bean (cacao). His drink has just 24 calories a serving and its recipe is based on the drink ancient Aztecs and Mayan royalty drank back in the day. Remember a great deal of scientific research has confirmed important health benefits from dark chocolate -primarily due to its antioxidant effects. Brewed Chocolate which is made from raw whole cocoa beans preserves everything that is healthy about chocolate while leaving almost all of the fat and calories behind. So if you are looking for a great new way to get your chocolate fix go to www.brewedchocolate.com

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy chatted with our good friend Tiffany Davis, Atlanta Editor of the Daily Candy. It seems Tiffany has been a little preoccupied with her new special Valentine and has not been able to join us in our new studio.  She did call in though and shared some the best Healthy Options for Valentine’s Day gift ideas that have been or are going to be featured in the various Daily Candy editions from around the country. A healthy do it yourself Valentine’s day gift idea like creating an edible herb and fruit basket was a big hit with Dr Fitness. And our fans of the movie Twilight loved the idea to schedule a joint blood donation appointment for you and your valentine. tiffany also told us about a great organic popcorn maker that has all kinds of wacky flavor comibinations and an awesome sports bra that has a heart rate monitor built in. To learn more about these great gift ideas and a whole lot more please go to www.DailyCandy.com and subscribe to one of the most popular and useful web magazines out there.

On today’s show Dr Fitness and the Fat Guy  we opened with the return of LA Councilwoman Jan Perry who continued to impress us with her political moves to socially engineer Los Angeles to her liking. As expected she has done an arguably less than stellar job removing the businesses that have harmed her constituents but is now apparently grandstanding on an issue just to get publicity for herself and help her as she moves forward in her quest for higher public offices. Nothing is as inspiring as someone who is using the media to move up the government food chain. If only politicians would use their ambition and connections in order to take the personal risk themselves which is necessary to build thriving businesses in their own communities rather than game the system to make it harder for legitimate businesses who have figured out a way to prosper in challenging environments. To learn more about her go to her website here

In today’s Wellness Minute we explain why some countries are healthier than others and why American are among the most obese.  Research has shown that there may be a link between mass transit and more active communities. This makes perfect sense - if you rely on mass transit for your transportation rather than a car you will be forced to walk more. You have to walk from the train station or subway to wherever you are going. Because of urban sprawl the suburbanites drive their car directly to where they are going and therefore walk much less. Eaurpoeans walk 3 times as much as Americans. And as we have mentioned here walking 5-10 minutes a few times a day can burn enough calories to help you maintain your current wieght and/or lose some weight.
