November.
What a month. Here are some random recollections.
1. 11/5 We started by playing with Ume and Future of the Left. Someone said our songs aren't hard to play. Other people got it. Jay Ryan gave us posters.
Then Future of the Left gave us Jameson. Lots of Jameson. A lost Swiss tourist had to be forced into a cab at 3am before walking west on Lake past Ashland, thinking that was the way to Fullerton and Clark. Good thing Team Band isn't neutral. Might have forced Greg Norman - not the golfer - to drink from a flask.
(on 11/10 we hung out with Art Brut when they played in town. Ended up in an apartment near Wrigley Field that had it's own bar and working tap in it. Ate a hot dog at 4am with Freddy and Ed Idiot. I think Ian was feeling sexy - pretty sure he kissed me.)
(on 11/12 we hung out with
Red Fang! You can read all about that one
here and
here. Red Fang rules.)
2. 11/13 Textbook, Violent Soho, Team Band, and the Bomb at Beat Kitchen. Kinda odd show. Lots of people standing around waiting to hear the Bomb play a Raygun song. The Bomb is better than that. Waitresses and bartenders from Kumas came out to see us and The Bomb. Man oh man, those ladies rule. I wish you could date a restaurant. I think we played "Where Eagles Dare". Perhaps the best point of the night was having an ex-drummer's girlfriend's friend tell us that we are shitty now. Now?
(on 11/14-16 Max and I went to NYC to hang out with Art Brut, James Rocks, and Keith TOTP. Keith and I heard an ambulance announce "Get the fuck out of the way" at 3am while we hung out in a hotel bar drinking over-priced vodka gimlets. Next night Eddie and I had pizza at 4am, which was a smart move, for later that night Jasper walked into a wall and gashed his head. Mikey was definitely feeling sexy. James got food poisoning. Max sat and watched football for many hours while drinking way too much. It occurs to us we might be over-indulging.)
But the elevator said:
3. 11/18 Myopenbar night at Empty Bottle. Beer. Sailor Jerry's. Tequila. Whiskey. Chad talked nonstop between every song, threw a beer at Greg, climbed the high drum monitors, jumped off the stage while playing, and didn't remember any of it (yes. we were over-indulging. question answered). Apparently the second band had a sign drawn with crayons and were named after a jd salinger work. Unfortunately, it was neither "Down at the Dinghy" nor "Just Before the War with the Eskimos" (which would be a good band name if it was "...War With the Eskimos").
4. 11/28 at Schubas with The Blakes. We killed. Amazing turnout, great set, free shots.
Check out this Schubas show review at Click and Dagger! Greg wore sweatpants. We got some cool photos.
Thanks to everyone who made it out to a show or more! Two shows left this year. Can't wait!
