Current mood:yeah whatever
Hi there,

Just one show left before the end of the year, December 17th supporting Chris Helme who used to be in The Seahorses, although I'm not sure at this point whether he'll thank me/hate me for telling you that, at Loose Lucees (The old little civic). Blinded by the sun is and always will be a tune and that is a great album right there.

You can now download everything that we have recorded this year for free at:

Lots of fun coming in 2010 and its only 2 years to the end of the world as we know it so smile and make the most of it. Merry Christmas if I don't see you.

All the best

Hi there one and all,

Hope you're all well. Been a pretty productive few weeks this end. The shows have been going well and as we wind down to the Christmas break we have a couple of exciting things to let you know about. Most recently we have been in the studio recording some one off acoustic tracks. I thought it might be nice to have some new songs on the myspace, should give you a good hint as to what to expect for the new single, obviously minus the full band at this stage. We're not releasing them as such, but putting them up for free download so pinch them off the site if you like. We'll also be selling them at the shows as part of a Young Runaways credit crunch busting mega deal bundle with our debut album. There'll be some nice new artwork too.

Been writing quite a lot lately in fact between us we've probably got another albums worth of material but we're not going there just yet; two albums in a year is a bit much even for us. Instead we'll be putting out a single in early 2010 and possibly another EP quite soon after that. Which will of course mean lots more shows and we're going to try and escape the Midlands on our next jaunt.

Other new content related shizzle; we got some photos up from our launch show back in September so have a look at them. And Graham and Lucy's Dad kindly filmed the whole thing so you can also watch a ridiculously good version of our song The Hometown Slowdown on the myspace. You may have already noticed the video of Ropeswings that the good people at Captured put together for us awhile back.

Got a couple of shows coming up before the end of the year, all acoustic, starting this Friday 4th December at the Varsity in Wolverhampton, then we're supporting Chris Helme on 17th December (ex The Seahorses - used to love that band) at Loose Lucee's also in Wolves should be a cracker. Tickets can be purchased from me.

Thats all for now, wrap up warm!

Afternoon,

Hope you're well. Just a quick note to report some good news. Tonight the title track of our debut album 'The Boy & The Beartrap' will be played on Tom Robinsons Fresh On The Net Show on BBC6 music, available on digital, DAB and on the internet. Needless to say I'm absolutely delighted about this, it's good to get the new record out there. So you can tune in to the show between 1am and 3am, looks like we will be on midway through. Alternatively if you have more normal sleep patterns than I, you can always listen back to the show on the podcast at a sensible time. You can find that here:

We been doing some good shows including the Stornoway support which was their last show before the now infamous Jools Holland appearance. Good stuff. We got a few more in the pipeline including a sweet support on the 20th November with A Genuine Freakshow who are apparently 'a bit like us'. After that, a couple more shows round the Midlands will see us up to Christmas, when we will be getting back into the studio (my flat) to record the new EP.

So thanks for reading, have a good one.

Hi there,

How's it going. Tomorrow we're playing at the Civic Bar supporting the band 3 Daft Monkeys, good band, we'll see if they live up to their name. A week Saturday is the Stornoway support at the Arts Centre. Reading a great book at the mo about the 'Stourbridge scene', aka Pop Will Eat Itself, The Wonderstuff and Neds' Atomic Dustbin. Fascinating stuff for me the worlds newest Wonderstuff fan, what a great band. Saw them at JB's not so long ago with a friend of mine who was 'there at the time', and they just about owned every band I've seen in the last five years to be honest. And refreshing to read that they really did start something Big in the Black Country before anyone else gave a flying one.

We are in the fly magazine this month (Oct 09) in the Names to Watch section which was lovely. You might need a magnifying glass to see it but it made me proud so it did. You can read the whole issue on the website:

Or of course you can find it in a real life copy, I think we're on page 18. Incidentally if you find a real life copy grab two and post one to me please.

The good people at Cat Cutter Records posted a blog about us and our debut album which was very kind of them indeed, so go and have a look at that if you get chance, one very cool record label. Got a couple more album reviews to post when I can get my scanner to work so keep a look out.

Just finished producing a band called Varney and Sons from Selly Oak which has been a good crack, check em out.

Thats all for now, cheers.

Matthew

Hi there,

Hope you're well. Just to let you know that we've got a few things coming up in October that are worth a look I reckon. First of all we've got a couple of gigs at the end of the month, we're playing on the 23rd at the Civic Bar and we're main support to a band called 3 Daft Monkeys. Then on the 31st we are main support for Stornoway at their Wolverhampton show, which is being held at the Newhampton Arts Centre. Tickets for both of those shows are reasonably priced at £8. Mail me if you want more details or would like to purchase said tickets.

Finally it's my birthday on the 17th so cards and presents are welcome and will be warmly received. On my birthday list this year is The Beatles Remastered boxset (likely) a new Apple IMac (less likely) and a week in New York (never going to happen).

We're in the process of putting together the photos and videos from the launch show which are looking great and should be up on here very soon. We've had a couple of nice album reviews come in which again will be up on here shortly, and I'm told we're in The Fly magazine this month in the namestowatch section, that's an entirely unconfirmed rumour at this stage.

Have a good one, hopefully see you at the shows.

Hello and good morning,

Hope that you're well. So it's been just over a week since the launch show and it feels like about a year. Once again thanks to everyone that came out to that one. We smashed the Arts Centre Box Office attendance record and sold out our first run of albums, we did you warn you that they were limited edition. Great night all round.

I've managed to catch yet another cold/fever, this ones more like the old style fevers that mean you have to have a day or two off school; where your bones ache and you can't sleep for hallucinating about cubes and school friends you haven't seen for years. Frightening stuff. The writers have been writing lots of new stuff, and we performed one of the new songs at the launch show it's called Bankrupt and it's very good indeed. I think we're going to start the new EP sooner rather than later to be honest.

We're going to put out a single from the album in time for the next run of shows and you'll only be able to get it from the shows for the time being. We got a gig at the Public Art Gallery on the 9th October, just £3 on the door for that one. Then the next run of big ones start towards the end of October.

23rd October - Main support @ Civic Hall Bar
31st October - Main support for Stornoway at Newhampton Arts Centre
7th November - Headline show at the Lighthouse Cinema for Flip Animation festival closing party.

If you want to book us after that get in touch via the usual channels. That's all for now I'm off for a Lemsip, and the dogs doing great thanks for asking.

Alright there

hows it going. So the main thing right now is that the tickets for our album launch are now on sale so go and get one. They are £5 and for that you will also get to watch Stars Of Sunday League and Graeme Standon, both very very good. We will be playing most of the new record and resurrecting a few golden oldies just for the craic. We've been rehearsing like a proper band at the beat foundry in Wolverhampton and it's sounding good, better than ever in fact. We'll be selling the first batch of our album 'The Boy & The Beartrap' at the show and then it'll be available everywhere in theory. So make sure you get a ticket for you and one for your best friend.

We took some new photos with my old school friend and primary school teacher Gareth Hawkins and you can see his work on our profile picture. You will also be able to see it on the front cover of the September issue of Ryans Gig Guide and read an article all about us as well. We're on twitter now too, so tweet tweet to you.

We're playing our favourite the Chestnut Tree in Wolverhampton this Sunday, 30th August and again for the lovely Love Racism Hate Music people on Monday 31st August at the Sound Bar in Birmingham so you know if you're around, we're on at 9pm.

My new dog Bella has found her teeth and is ripping the house and my limbs to shreds, who knows, I might bring her to a show if they don't mind a Basset Hound thats still not at all toilet trained mixing it up front of house.

So there it is - things to do in this order - buy a ticket from one of the band members or from www.newhamptonarts.co.uk for the album launch, come to one of our Bank Holiday shows, come to the album launch. Jobs a good'n.

Thanks very much, see you soon.

Hi there

Hope you're well. Please welcome the latest addition to the Young Runaways family. (Fanfare&drum roll).....Her name is Bella. She's a 9 week old bassett hound with a silly face. Google 'Basset Hound' to find a picture of the silly silly face. She will be joining the band on squeaky toys and barks. She thinks she's the big dog but she's not. Photos to follow when she's house trained.

In other news below is the press release for our album/album launch show, have a read and feel free to sell your side of the story to a tabloid. We've got some shows coming up too.

Thanks then
Bye

Young Runaways – The Boy & The Beartrap 2009

Released in September 2009 The Boy & The Beartrap is the self produced debut album from Young Runaways. Mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, The Smiths) the record was made at the bands’ own studio, recorded sporadically between November 2008 and April 2009.

The songs speak of the people, places and experiences the band members have shared growing up together. Imbued with a tangible sense of adventure, the record shifts effortlessly through the multi - instrumental sensory sonics of the band performing full tilt, to acoustic acapellas recorded in the garden of the studio, and back again. The record will be launched in Wolverhampton with a special show at the Newhampton Arts Centre on Saturday September 19th.

Young Runaways are a group of family and friends from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. The band was formed in early 2008, around the songwriters Matthew Pinfield and Graham Philips, when a home recorded demo was shortlisted for the final 12 acts in the Glastonbury emeging talent competition. Fast forward to the summer of that same year and the band, completed by Lucy Phillips, Tom Pinfield and James Round performed twice at the Glastonbury Festival including an appearance on the Leftfield Stage.

Following a busy few months in the wake of Glastonbury, which saw the band making several trips around the country promoting the Steeple To The Backyard EP, Young Runaways added brass player Stephen Bilby and reconvened in Wolverhampton with enough new songs to begin work on their debut album. Locally the bands’ profile increased as they continued to play live across the Midlands, in between album sessions at the studio they built in Matthews’ parents house, with sold out headline shows and support slots with nationally touring acts. Young Runaways have been played on BBC WM, WCR and introduced by Tom Robinson on BBC6 Music.

For more information, promo requests or to book the band please contact Matthew Pinfield on 07771 592 710 or email mpinfield@hotmail.com. For up to the minute news please visit www.myspace.com/youngrunaways

It's been a long old road, but at last the album is complete. As we have probably already mentioned it's been mastered by Frank Arkwright (Arcade Fire, The Smiths), and it's sounding super super super. We've been loving it but it would be rude to keep it to ourselves so here you go, 6 tracks from the album for you to get your ears around. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

In other news we have been organising a launch show for the album which will be happening at Newhampton Arts Centre, Wolvo on 19th September. If you're in the area keep that date free, it'll be an exciting event with some great support acts to be confirmed.

So, we're just beginning to share what we've made with the world, so turn up your speakers and have a listen, who knows you might just like it...

Adios mi amigos,

We will also be launching our own music/arts event over summer at the wonderful Royal Oak Pub, again deets to follow.

We have some shows booked over the next few weeks so come along and hear some of the new songs. Can't wait for you all to hear the record.
