Hello!

Well, it has been a wee while now since we loosed our
latest noise-offerings on folks far and wide. Fortunately, I am very
happy to report that everyone so far has been saying very nice things
and aside from the very occasional, very mild backhanded compliment or
(by now somewhat expected) comparison to certain other laptop-bearing
musical outfits, I would say we are resoundingly chuffed!

A few highlights appear at the end of this newsbit, with links to the
kind people who said the nice things. If you have the time please do
give them a wee peruse as they are all most worthy of your attention.

In other news, we have a couple of announcements:

GIGS!

Our next is in Glasgow on Saturday the 7th of March, arranged in conjunction with The List by the lovely promoter-folks Aerials. Playing for our first time at The Twisted Wheel we are most chuffed to be playing alongside the mighty Super Adventure Club and Tom Snowball. Kick off is at 8PM and entry is a fiver.

We are also most excited to be able to say, that on April 4th we shall be playing Glasgow again at Nice and Sleazies supporting Jonah Matranga (Formerly of Far, onelinedrawing, New End Original and Gratitude). Also playing on the night are the organiser of the event in question Dave Hughes and local band Carnivores. Will be in touch soon with ticket info!

Finally, we are most flattered to be asked to come in and do a live session for Air3's Brand Spanking New Music Show. Part of Stirling University Radio, these guys have pulled a veritable embarrassment of excellent musical talent through their studios and come 4PM on April the 9th we shall be doing our best to live up to their considerable reputation of
quality sounds. (I nearly made a "Sterling/Stirling quality" pun, but
stopped myself in time). You can listen live every Thursday at 4 by
clicking to www.air3live.com and I highly suggest you do as they have some cracking sessions lined up!

And thats about it just now, a brief reminder though that you can download our latest single from our online store (for FREEEE!) at bandcamp.com,
and if you wish to know what we are up to with regards to recording new
songs and day-to-day gubbins, as well as getting in touch through our
website, you can also now follow us on Twitter (well, the NOW part is a bit misleading, and before yet another mention of Twitter, the largely pointless but quite fun actually website triggers collective teeth-gnashing and growlings of "That bloody site again!" having seen it plastered everywhere it seems these days, may I just assure you we signed up a while ago, well, I did, not to be "ahead of the curve", but pretty much just to stalk Stephen Fry in what is apparently a socially acceptable manner...).

Hope you are most well, speak to you soon!

Ali.

Kind words from generous people about our new tunes:
(Many mighty thanks to all concerned!)

“Scottish duo Sixpeopleaway continue to impress with this latest offering. While the elegant simplicity of 'Say It's Simple' is a pleasantly accessible
if unorthodox pop song, Sixpeopleaway's real appeal lies in the lead
two tracks. The distorted crunch that bites halfway through 'If Then
Else' is almost certain to catch you off guard, its harder-edged menace
jarring against the minimal atmospherics of 'Eve'. Frontman Alistair
Merrick is another ace in the hole, his fragile vocal fitting as well
with melancholia as it does with chaos… this is solid, convincing
stuff. Sixpeopleaway have the tunes, drive and innovation to become a
serious proposition in 2009. Promising stuff.”

4/5, Rockmidgets.com

“Light and airy pop – on the surface at least, however, for every
hook-in-the-making there’s a sudden about-turn, an extra mile before
the chart-friendly chorus that never comes. The lead track is a case in
point, a joyous jumble of twists as the seemingly inevitable never
quite arrives… makes for an intriguing listen; challenging yet very
palatable.”

4/5, Is This Music?

“Glasgow based troubadors sixpeopleaway return with a new single. The Duo are masters of angular acoustic vibes with a clever line in electro
backbeats. 'If.Then.Else' is no exception, a hugely vibrant collision
with distortion-fuelled, yet controlled beauty. The band have
side-stepped neatly into new worlds...”

Fuse Online Magazine

“Long Time Favorites of MNS Glasgow duo sixpeopleaway have done it again with this superb AA side single. One to watch.”

Top 4 of The Month, Music News Scotland

“Sixpeopleaway have been causing a stir in the past couple of years on the underground scene making melodic and warming music. Taking influences from people such as Fourtet to Green Day to Biffy Clyro to Radiohead, the duo take fractions of each influence and glue them together to create their own blend of alternative electronic music.”

The Stashbox

“Double A-side If.Then.Else/Eve suggests the duo possess enough ardour to
outlast the competition… the future continues to look bright for sixpeopleaway.”

Hello!

How the devil are you? Hope you have had as enjoyable a Christmas as possible (and if not are at least looking forward to a right old knees-up to see off 2008).

This is just a quick reminder to say that as of yesterday, our second release of this year, our double A-side single "If.Then.Else // Eve" (including bonus track "Say It's Simple") is available on limited run 3-track CD Single from our Official Webstore.

It is also available now as a FREE DOWNLOAD (128k MP3s) from our Official Download Store. You can also purchase high-resolution MP3s and CD quality files in a variety of formats for a very small fee from the same place if you wish to show your support.

-----------------------------------

In other news, as well as the WEBSTORE being updated to include our new release, we have also updated the lyrics section on the MUSIC page of our website to include the words to the new songs.

We have also confirmed our first gig of 2009, which shall be in Brel (Glasgow) on the 27th of January. More details soon!

Finally, we have a bunch of live tracks which we shall be making available for free on our download store/website shortly so keep in touch!

As always, we are more than chuffed to hear from you if you fancy getting in touch to simply say "hi" or even if you have any particular requests/questions we may be able to help with.

Hello!

Just a quick message to say we have uploaded the first two tracks from our new 3-track single (out 29th December, or next Monday if you prefer a less formal method of dating).

These are the two A-Sides, If.Then.Else and Eve.

Love to know what you make of them as we have not uploaded songs here for a while!

We shall also be uploading a few other early Christmas presents in the form of new live recordings over the next couple of days and leading up to the single release, so keep checking back! (Or better yet, sign up to the mailing list, see the "PS" below).

All the best and happy listening!

Ali.

PS: If you want to keep up to date with all of our news, we are starting to move to using our websites mailing list as our main way of keeping in touch with folks. If this is something you would be interested in head over to www.sixpeopleaway.co.uk and the sign up box is on the bottom left of the screen. :)

Hellohello!

First off, the usual round of apologies to any of you who may actually have been wondering if we were alive or dead (we are the first one in case this blog entry has not cleared that matter up). Genuinely sorry but what with various utter gubbins involving such real-world trivialities as work and such, time has been quite the precious commodity of late.

But, we have not been sitting about on our arses doing nothing, far from it!

1) A whole new www.sixpeopleaway.co.uk will shortly be live. Having spent a while earlier in the year completely re-learning webdesign to make a new more user-friendly and easily updateable site (then deciding that one was shit and spending more months making a better on), it is finally very nearly able to go live and hopefully shall do within the next week or two. It has far more features than the last and will be getting extensively used to help us keep in touch with anyone who would like to keep in touch with us.

2) Our next gig! Not really new news but a big one nonetheless. It is to be at the Glasgow Mill (Otherwise known as Oran Mor). It is next Wednesday (3rd of December) and as well as being 100% fFREE ENTRY will be being filmed and recorded! This means we shall very shortly have new live tracks (and possibly these new live tracks will be of actual NEW tracks too) to share with you all (at the new www.sixpeopleaway.co.uk of course).

If of course you would actually like to be there to get your well-timed shouted obscenities or otherwise recorded for posterity alongside our music in a live venue-type environment, by all means come along and join the fun on the night. Your support would, as always, be greatly appreciated. :)

Tickets can be found here:

http://www.themill-live.com/
(Just head to the Gig Guide/Tickets section)

It is a text-sign-up arrangement whereby you type in yer name and they send you a text which you show at the door to get in. Each ticket admits two I believe so tell your friends!

3) Last but by no means least, we aim to release our third CD this December the 29th. Featuring three recent new tracks we have already been roadtesting live for a little while. Not quite a single (as singles rarely have three tracks on em these days) or an EP (Not long enough surely?), we are nevertheless most chuffed with these tracks and are looking forward to getting them out there to be heard and finding out what you all make of them. This leaves us with a bit of a clean slate and draws a line under the songs we have been playing live this year. Having also been using the last few months to work on even newer material, it is our hope that 2009 will see the release of our first ever proper, grown-up, full-length album.

...........................

Feel free to leave a comment or send a message or say "HI" if you have any further questions about any of the above, or anything else for that matter!

Hope you are all doing ace.

All the best!

Ali.

Hello all,

How the devil are you?

Most well I do hope?

Our news today concerns the release of a somewhat lovely new magazine combining art and music called "Notes", who you can find through their myspace page (or in our top friends or by clicking on their banner on our page) here:

www.myspace.com/notes_magazine

For £3.50 (securely via Paypal) you get a copy of Notes featuring custom artwork for all the bands based around the issue's theme, and a mini-CD of all acts featured. It is pocket-sized, lovingly handmade and just a wonderful package to hold and look at. This issue features us (our track on the CD is "Small Fortune"), Ryoga, Radius System and Nova Robotics.

I personally love that some people care enough about music and art to take it upon themselves to make things like Notes for the sake and enjoyment of it and can only wholeheartedly support them in their efforts. So, if you like the sound of it and fancy a copy, please do buy one, I am sure you won't regret it. :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other news we are trucking on with new tunes and are looking at getting some gigs lined up for the rest of the year to road test and tweak them. Ultimately, we are considering our options for new releases and want to get new stuff for you all to hear as soon as possible.

Finding the time to demo new songs is a bit of an uphill struggle just now what with work commitments etc, and I have also been working on making a new website that aims to be more interactive and easier to use (Hopefully it will mean we can keep in touch with you guys more and let you all know whats going on more easily). We are playing a few new songs live now though (4 that are as-yet unreleased) and will crack on with recording them as soon as we know what are plans are release-wise.

In the meantime, all the best and cheers for reading!

Hey there,

Unfortunately, tonights gig at Rab Ha's in the Merchant City has been cancelled. This is due to the venue and is completely out of our and the promoters control. Many apologies if you were planning on coming.

So thats the Bad news (as I was really looking forward to this gig!), however, in the good news column we have been asked to play this Friday at the Classic Grand as part of Breakout Scotland's series of showcase gigs . We shall be playing alongside Dorian, Callel, and Conor Mason.

Tickets cost £5 in advance or on the door as far as I am aware, however, you can get in for £3 if you simply message/email us your full name and the full names of anyone else you are planning on bringing. All you then have to do is to say your name on the door, tell em we have set aside tickets for you and your chums and pay for your discounted ticket. :)

I do hope those of you who may have been coming tonight may be able to make it along on Friday, we shall be playing at least one or two new songs for you to wrap your ears around.

Once again, very sorry about tonight but we only just found out and as I say, it was completely out of our control.

Happy Sunday!

Hello!

Well, I think we have just about calmed down from our most highly enjoyable week of musical fun!

The BBC session was an absolute blast and whilst we were bricking it ever so slightly right before it started, everyone made us feel tremendously welcome and we ended up just having tonnes of fun playing songs and talking pish. :)

You can listen to the whole show HERE, (and I would recommend that you do as it was a great show with many awesome bands getting a spin), but if you simply want to hear our bit you can head HERE (or click the new link in our "sounds like" section on our profile) to listen to an edited version in the session archive which is just the bits from the show what have us in them.

We played four songs and had a bit of a chat with Mr Galloway, so if you want to know how we met, where the bands name came from, and why on earth we ended up talking about a multi-headed, many-limbed 50's horror monster (not our fault as it turns out), oh, as well as hearing a brand new song, then head on over to either of the links above. The full tracklisting of songs we played was:

1) Small Fortune
2) Of Kings
3) Eve (New Song)
4) Next Time Round

(If you do listen to the whole thing all the way through, then you may be interested to see the new pictures we uploaded too, or if not interested at least they will make sense!) :)

You can also download Vic's Introducing Podcast, as he very kindly stuck our live session version of "Small Fortune" on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, we would also like to say a massive thank you to Over The Wall (check them out in our top friends) who gave us not only one of the most enjoyable live music viewing/listening experiences we can recall (when we were fortunate enough to play alongside them at PivoPivo this Thursday), but just for being genuinely decent and nice (not to mention genuinely funny) guys who made Thursday night thoroughly enjoyable for all concerned and are more than deserving of your listening attention. :)

Feel free to let us know what you think of the new song! Good or bad, as always, anytime taken to chat to us and let us know what you make of our stuffs is greatly appreciated.

All the best,

Ali

Hello everyone,

Cheers for reading!

For any of you all that may be interested, we shall be playing live on Vic Galloway's show on BBC Radio One Scotland tomorrow night from 12-2AM.

If that is too far past your bedtime or you are from outside Scotland fret not as you can listen to it again for a full week from the date of broadcast here:

Vic Galloway on Radio One

We may even be playing a brand new song...

(Ok, enough of the cryptic "maybes" in an attempt to seem interesting and faintly mysterious, we have a new song we want to play and assuming it goes well at practice tonight and we don't think we are going to tit-it-up proper on national radio and make total arses of ourselves, we shall be playing it! I say this here because this pretty much means we have to play it now unless we want to look like big wimps...)

We have new songs for playing at our upcoming shows too, so if you toddle along to our next one (Pivo Pivo, Glasgow, This Thursday, 8PM, £4 entry) you shall be treated to hearing them before anyone else EVER! :)

You shall also be treated to the most excellent Over The Wall (who we enjoyed playing with immensely last year and shall surely please your ears) and Suspire (who we have not played with before but we are sure are jolly nice folks worthy of your attention).

Hope you are all well!

All the best!

Ali.

Hello!

How the devil are you all?

We are most well and hope the same an be said for your good selves. :)

Just a quick blog to update on our latest happenings:

There are currently three things in our "upcoming shows" bit. The first of these things is that on the 14th of May (well, technically the 15th of May) we shall be performing live for Vic Galloway as session guests on his BBC Radio One Scotland Show. Most excited about this!

The show kicks off at 12 midnight and runs through to 2AM, so if any of you happen to be night owls please do tune in (and feel free to send a cheeky text or email in to the show if you like what you hear). :) The show will also be streamable both live and for the week following broadcast via the wonderful interwebs found in your very own web-browser.

The second two things are both Glasgow-based gigs which should be most fun for anyone able to attend. The first is at PivoPivo on the 15th of May playing alonside the most excellent Over The Wall and Suspire, the second is a slightly more intimate free-entry show in the Merchant City at Rab Ha's. This shall be an acoustic show playing alongside the Second-Hand Marching Band.

In other news, copies of the new EP are vanishing at a most pleasingly satisfying rate (huge thanks to all of you who have picked up a copy!), work is progressing on completely new songs and also the planning of gigs for the summer. The plan is most likely to gig new stuff as soon as its ready while introducing ourselves to live audiences a wee bit further from home, so if any of you reading wish we would play near you feel free to send us a message and let us know. :)

Also, please do feel free to get in touch with any thoughts any of you may have on the following:

New songs: Would you guys like to hear demos as and when they are ready (which may be very soon indeed) or wait for finely tweaked release versions?

Regardless we plan to have new stuffs for live consumption very soon so as always, the best way to hear new stuffs is to pop along and have a gander. :)

Once more, hope you are all well,

All the best!

Ali.
