Tara Slone joins SUN-TV

TORONTO (Sun Media) - Juno-nominee and Rock Star: INXS finalist Tara Slone is the latest addition to the lineup of hosts at SUN-TV.

Slone, 33, will be joining the roster of hosts which includes Janette Luu, Gareth Wheeler, and David. J. Roberts.

Slone formerly fronted the band Joydrop and just finished a western Canada tour promoting her album Just Look Pretty and Sing. Tara has done work for ET Canada, eTalk and TSN's Off The Record.

CO-HOST

Slone will co-host Inside Jam with Roberts and handle entertainment on Canoe live.

"I'm excited and slightly overwhelmed because it's a learning curve. I really enjoy being on air and it's a natural step for me. It's very complementary with my music and nice to learn new things," said Slone, who starts on-air tomorrow.

"I won't be slowing down on the music front. My music is my first passion and I will never ever give it up. Now I will be working lots of hours and be on television as well," said Slone, who will be working on another music video in a couple of weeks.

REAL ASSET

Paul Schmidt manager of In-House Productions at SUN- TV said Slone is a real asset.

"SUN-TV's ability to attract such supremely talented and seasoned pros speaks volumes about our production team. Tara is not only a tremendously engaging on-air talent with a sterling reputation built through her music career, she also brings a fresh, insider's perspective," Schmidt said.

REAL CANADIAN ANTHEM SEARCH

Toronto, ON — Loblaw Companies Limited, in conjunction with its sponsorship of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors, has announced it will hold a Real Canadian Anthem Search, offering young Canadians in the GTA and surrounding areas an exciting chance to celebrate Canada and sing the national anthem at Air Canada Centre.

"The Real Canadian Superstore is a truly Canadian brand," says Elizabeth Margles, VP of Public Relations for Loblaw Companies Limited. "We're thrilled to promote Canadian talent and pride in our great country, and to work with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Raptors to give kids this opportunity."

The competition will be broken down into two categories: Choir groups (from grades 6 – 8) and soloists (participants up to 19 years of age). One winning choir group will receive a $3,000 donation toward their school's music program and will sing the national anthem at the Raptors game on April 13th. The winning soloist will sing the anthem at the Leafs game on April 3rd and will receive $1000 in prizes and $2000 to be donated to their charity of choice. Choir groups and soloists will be judged on criteria such as intonation, vocal clarity, enthusiasm and overall performance.

Judging panels are set to include well-known Canadian celebrities and music industry VIPs like stars of "Degrassi: The Next Generation" Jennifer Podemski and Lauren Collins, former "Rockstar: INXS" contestant and singer-songwriter Tara Slone, Disney Power Ranger Matt Austin, Nicole Stamp from "Reading Rangers" and "TVO Kids - The Space", Lisa Whynot from EMI Music Canada and Canadian Idol Winner Melissa O'Neil.

Choir groups will take part in two days of regional competitions March 7th and 8th. Eight groups will be selected to advance to the final round and their whole school will receive a delicious President's Choice breakfast.

Soloists can enter by uploading their video at www.superstore.ca or auditioning in-person at select Ontario Superstores from February 22nd to March 18th. Tour dates and locations are posted on the website. Eight soloists will be selected to advance to the finals via an online portal.

The eight choir and eight solo finalists will take part in the final competition on March 26th at Air Canada Centre. Choir group and soloist videos will be posted on www.superstore.ca prior to the competition so consumers can vote for their favourites and be involved in the judging process.
