From the crisp fall air of Colorado, to the cold clean air of winter in Alaska; November brought us back to our home state. First stop: Kodiak, Alaska, where the crab fisherman claim to be hardier then those from “The Deadliest Catch”, which I have no doubt they are. We were submerged into a small drinking town with a fishing problem. Funny enough, there are no rental cars available in Kodiak that have 4 wheel drive and/or studs. I had a blast trying to drive around during a crazy storm in that 12 passenger…. Two shows, two nights of hell raising fun; people were kicking up their feet, getting loose…Odessa’s mother spent two summers in Kodiak back in the 70s, so Odessa got to meet some of her mother’s long lost friends. Angela and I had a beer at one of my favorite breweries in Alaska: Kodiak Brewery. And the boys,,,, oh the boys,,, what didn’t they get in to?....
Monday night brought a beautiful dinner and pickin’ party with our friends, Crooked Still, who happen to also be in Alaska at the same time we were. We had to have them over, just to feed them our own caught salmon, shrimp, and halibut, an assortment of Alaska brews: Kodiak Brew, Homer Brew, Moose’s Tooth Brew, and Glacier Brew, and of course, two of Sigrid Brudie’s famous Alaskan blueberry pies!....
Back up to Anchorage for a couple days of practice on new material. On Wednesday my brother and I braved the storm coming from the south and headed down to Seward for the night. Woke up the next morning to Angela’s almost-hysterical voice on the answering machine, “Mike’s in the hospital, we can’t play Homer tonight!” So, I knock on my brother’s room, and sweetly ask, “Do you want to play with us tonight?” (Peter’s an amazing guitar player!). And you know what he said?! Only a little brother would say this…. “Only if you make me a delicious breakfast.” And delicious breakfast I did make! We listened to Door and Windows all the way to Homer, and he picked up a couple more tunes when we got there… If I do say so myself, he did a pretty amazing job, and he only had 5 hours notice! After the show, we went to my other favorite brewery in Alaska: Homer Brewery,,, had a little night cap with the folks over there: the owners, Karen and Steve, my Uncle Brad, and some other Homer locals…. An early call to Mike the next morning decided that he was still pretty sick, but well enough to play the Anchorage gig that night, so we said goodbye to Peter and Homer, and headed back to town.....
Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Fairbanks went by in a blur…. Sold out show in Anchorage and Talkeetna, and nearly sold out in Fairbanks! Lots of hugs and talking to old friends… Had a wonderful after-show dinner at the Moose’s Tooth after the Anchorage show with some good friends. Had to get up the next morning and drive to Talkeetna. We haven’t played there in a couple years, and it was great to see what they have done with the Sheldon Center! It is so beautiful! Fairbanks brought -20 degrees Fahrenheit… Odessa was not happy about that…. Big thanks to Steve Baker and the Bailers for opening! And also to all the volunteers! A short night of sleep and we were driving back to Anchorage from our last gig of 2009.
Be safe out there, Kate

Colorado!!! We are headed your way. So psyched! Can't wait to breath in the beautiful mountain air.
I'm in Nashville at the moment, contemplating going to see the Time Jumpers tonight at the Station Inn. If any of you out there ever find yourselves in Nashville randomly on a Monday night, GO SEE THE TIME JUMPERS. It will change your life. Your heart will melt out of your chest, and your ears will never be the same. In a good way.
Anyways, California was amazing. As Angela mentioned, we were about to play the new Freight and Salvage in Berkley. Well, let me tell you, it is really a wonderful place. The staff made home made brownies for everyone! I love the new feel of the place. Way cool. Lots of our Strawberry fans came out to the show. Thank you!!! Our very snazzy-suited and talented friends 49 Special kicked off the night for us in style. We enjoyed playing for you all immensely. That night after the show, we stayed up until the wee hours of the morn playing tunes with old friends and new. Mike and I actually never went to bed. We drove straight to the airport from the pickin party to fly home.
It's been a mellow week off for me in Nashville. In true Bearfoot style, we have all been scattered in different parts of the states, doing different things. Kate took a road trip from San Fran to New Orleans to attend the Black Pot Festival. Mike has been in AK. Angela spent some time at her cabin in CO. And Jason stayed behind in Cali to play a gigs and roam the coast. I think we are all itching to get back on the road though. We have several new tunes to play for you. New merchandise. New posters too, hand drawn by yours truly. And coming soon very hip, super comfy hoodies for the cold months ahead.
Looking forward to this run very much. Live life to the fullest! See you soon.

Oh, how I love the North East. I actually enjoyed the rain while I was there. Changing it up a bit from sunny California. Solas was so fun! We finally got a chance to hang out with them after playing at The Southern in Charlottesville, VA. Moira the sound woman was especially a riot. Nothing like singing three parts at three in the morning! Shakori Hills festival in Silk Hope, NC was also a highlight. Those folks really know how to have a good time. Kate threw our new CD out into the audience from the stage and had people fighting for it. What a sight. We also got to play at a brand new venue in Harrisburg, PA called the Stage on Herr. Very cool place, and sweet owner/promoters. They treated us to the best dinner we've had in ages. We all sat down to order and we were told to pick anything we wanted. We were all looking at the menu like, "really...anything." Then when the waitress delivered our food, we realized we had all ordered red meat. Get it while the gettings good, I guess. All in all, it was a pretty good trip. Odessa is on her way to making millions with her hand drawn book marks. And for the rest of the tour we have upgraded by adding some hand drawn posters as well. Soon there will be winter sweaters and hoodys! We're merchandising! Yay. Hope to see everyone at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA on Sunday Oct. 25 at 8pm. I'm really looking forward to that show. Our good friends from 49 Speical will be opening for us. You know we love all you gorgeous fans out there. Love, Angela

We played at the Orange Peel in Asheville, NC last night with Solas, and the Duhks. Incredibly fun show! The place was alive! Peoples' feet couldn't help from flying off the floor for Solas's beautiful bow-shredding set, which was followed by a spectacular, totally stunning performance by the the Duhks. We loved playing for you Asheville! I feel very inspired to play this upcoming tour! We are at the moment driving to Shikori Hills Grass Roots Festival in NC. Early tommorrow morning we drive to Annapolis, Maryland to open again for for Solas!
Hope to see you all soon. Odessa, and the Band

Hey everyone out there in
cyberspace!
Since Strawberry Bearfoot has been jet-settin’ around the
country. After a day’s rest in San
Francisco we flew to Minneapolis-St. Paul and got that beautiful part of the
country for the first time and
played a 20-minute showcase for the Arts Midwest presenter’s conference. Excellent coffee in that town! The next day we had to board a morning
flight to L.A. to get to our intimate little Boulevard Music gig in Culver City
and enjoy a relaxing overnight stay with a very sweet couple we met there
(thanks Ron and Gale!) Mike
got an early morning of surfing,
Odessa made the morning Bikram Yoga session at the Mr. Bikram’s studio, and then we drove several hours
north for a gig in Arroyo Grande.
With
sunny beaches on our minds and new sports cars at every corner, we continued on
down to Laguna Beach. We enjoyed the water, waves, and 75 degree weather for a
few hours before playing at a beautiful golf resort much to the delight of the
nearly sold-out crowd of locals and visiting golfers (see the pictures of us
posted on the website and our myspace page.) After enjoying the resort’s hospitality for the night, we
cruised out to the airport and flew to Nashville for our AMA showcase at the
Station Inn. While in Nashville we
all got to jam with many of our local friends there from various bands, play on
WSM’s morning show, and showcase at our label (Compass’s) open house. Our stay in Nashville definitely made
me excited about moving there in a couple weeks!!
Now
we are all in the car driving to Washington, NC. for a show tonight. Tomorrow
we’re heading on to Chapel Hill where our booking agent lives and has organized
a gig herself for us. On Sunday we
will be heading to the state line of Tennessee and Virginia to play at Bristol
Rhythm and Roots. Bearfoot
has wanted to play there for years and will finally get to! Yeeeehaaaaa!
That’s
it for now everybody, but we will be posting again very soon, and we hope to
see you soon at our upcoming shows!!
....
Cheers!

It’s a beautiful day, and I’m driving back from a wonderful
weekend at Strawberry. Actually,
Chase is driving, and buying the new Patton Oswalt album on his Iphone, which I
think is illegal in California, but oh well… Shhhhh….
....
The topic of this blog: Festie Feet. For those of you who don’t know, Festie
Feet are very dirty feet, but it’s really a great thing because it shows how
much fun you had during the weekend: dancing, taking your shoes off to chill
and watch bands, wandering around the festival looking for jams, etc. The dirtier, the better. So anyways, I am lounging in the car,
feet on the dash, looking at my Festie Feet, and reminiscing about the awesome
weekend I just had…..
....
Started on Thursday flying into SFO. Chase and I had been up in Alaska for a
couple weeks, and had gone fishing with my dad…. Caught lots of black rockfish,
ling cod, and shrimp, and brought some back to SF with us. Jason happened to arrive into SFO at
the same time as us, so our roommate Nick picked all of us up, and we headed
home for fresh rockfish tacos, shrimp, and some two-buck Chuck. Next day, we woke, stuffed Jason in the
back of our two seater pickup and headed East…. Well, actually North because
the Bay Bridge is closed this weekend, but then East to…. In and Out
Burger!!! Yes, we stopped and got
three delicious cheeseburgers, Animal Style. For those of you who haven’t had
Animal Style, it’s a must have. For those of you who haven’t had In and Out
Burger, shame on you! Continuing
on, we came upon the festival during the Bellville Outfit’s set, which was
awesome!
....
Two more days of festival ensued: saw many of our friends
from San Fran and elsewhere, great food, great picking,,,,,The Time Jumpers,
Del….I love Del….
....
And then, our set!
We had Joe Craven come up to play with us on In the Kitchen, Time is No
Medicine, and a new tune called Dance with Me…. He is so great! And then a new
first: we had Larry Ataminuik come up and play drums with us for a couple
tunes, as well as Alison Brown on Before I Go…. Big thanks sent out to Joe,
Alison, and Larry for playing with us! What a blast! And also our sound guy for the day, Erick Jaskowiak!
....
And so here I am, looking at my Festie Feet and thinking
about the weekend… what fun we had!
Sad to leave….
....
Thanks to everyone that came out and enjoyed such a
wonderful weekend with us! Strawberry rocks!!!
....
Peace,
Kate + Bearfoot

Hi Everyone! After nine wonderful days home, we are gearing up to head down to the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival in Wyoming! I'm not sure what everyone has been doing in their down time, but I have been picking Alaska Blueberries... In fact, I'm headed out right now to go pick some more!
