Well you've asked for it. So here it is! There were many videos submitted for my birthday contest. If you are not familiar with the contest, basically I asked people to send me videos of them singing, dancing, and incorporating images to my songs. I got the idea because one of my favorite things to do is to get online and view such videos. I knew that it would be the perfect birthday gift for me!

Before I show you the winners, let me show you one honorable mention. I met these crazy girls at my show in Asheville, NC at Billy Graham's Training Center "The Cove" a few weeks ago. I enjoyed meeting them so much and this video will show you why. They're so funny! Here's Sprig of Joy:

I wish I could have chosen each video that was submitted to be the winner. They were all so great. So much creativity. So many amazing voices. Such great dancing. It was soooooooo hard for me to narrow it down to 3. So hard in fact that I actually COULDN'T narrow it down to 3. I had a 3-way tie for 3rd place!

Here's the first 3rd place winner. I met Megan Carolin a couple of times. Sweet girl! And we have a lot in common. We are both walking through a very similar journey right now. I know where she is coming from with this video. That's why it meant so much to me:

The next 3rd place winner is Julia Colon. I was NOT expecting this voice to come out of this girl. Wow! Not only can she sing her face off, but she expressed the emotion of this song so beautifully. Keep singing Julia. God has gifted you!

Last but not least, the final 3rd place winner is my girl Brittany Brooks. I'd seen another video she created a while back when she sang "Not Guilty" and the girl can sang! But I was blown away by this video she created. She is so creative! And to make it even better, I got a dose of her beautiful voice too!

See what I mean when I said it was hard to narrow it down? And this is just the tip of the iceberg!

I actually just got off of the phone with the 2nd place winner, Blake Rackley. He is so funny and so gifted. I couldn't believe he was only 17! His video made me laugh and it put the biggest smile on my face. (And him thinking I was 27 helped a little bit too. LOL!):

Last but not least, 1st place went to the adorable Laura Smith. I could immediately tell that Laura was a big fan. I was so sad to hear about her missing me at Winter Jam. But guess what? As the winner of my birthday video contest, I'll get to meet her in a couple of weeks at a show I have at EWomen in Columbus, OH! I can't wait to hug her sweet little neck! It took a lot of bravery to sing "(Never Gonna) Steal My Joy" and despite what she says, I think she has a lovely voice!!!

(You'll probably need to turn up the volume on your speakers to hear this well...)

So there you have it! Congratulations to the winners. Keep an eye out for a box a swag coming your way (however, I get the sneaky feeling that most of you already have signed things from me. Hopefully we can stick some new stuff in there for you)!

Thanks to everyone who sent me a video. If you follow me on twitter, you know what a wonderful birthday I had. Honestly, the highlight of that day was sitting down and watching every last one of your videos! Please do not feel bad if your entry is not above. You all did such an amazing job that you made it too hard on me to choose! I love you so much! Be looking for my thank you card in the mail.

As many of you know, I have been on a health quest lately. My battle with my weight has been a very difficult and very public one. The difficulties began years ago when I was a child. But the public part began with that infamous barb "Do we have a bigger stage this year" by Simon Cowell on the 5th season premiere of American Idol. Ever since then, my weight has been scrutinized, scoffed at, and mocked. That is the down side. The up side to all of the attention on my weight is that I have been able to be the voice of so many people who struggle in this area.

When I began recording my third full-length album (after True Beauty and It's Christmas), I realized that so many of the songs I was writing and being drawn to were saying things like, "Lift your hands up in the air...I have been set free", "So I can walk through this valley with confidence, knowing You will deliver me", and "My Deliverer set me free from all that held me captive"! It was then that I knew that God was calling me to receive freedom from an area that has held me captive for most of my life. He wanted to set me free from a life-long addiction to food.

I hired a personal trainer (If you follow me on twitter, you are well acquainted with my rantings about Tina). I changed my eating habits. (I don't believe in diets because I've done them all. I believe that whatever you do to lose the weight is what you must do for the rest of your life to keep it off). I began seeing a Christian counselor that specializes in the area of eating disorders. And last but certainly not least, I let God in to this area that, for so long, I've kept hidden from Him (or so I thought).

Since I began doing these things I lost 80lbs. I set a goal to lose 100lbs by the time my album Freedom was released on March 24, 2009. I began filming short videos called "Journey to 100" that chronicled my journey to lose 100lbs. If you have not seen them, head to my youtube! Also, the latest, #4 is on my myspace page.

As you can see, March 24th came and went (so did April 23rd for that matter)! Now, here is where I will be completely honest. The most difficult part of this journey for me has been dealing with my emotions. I've never done that before. I would always EAT my emotions. That is why working with my counselor is so important. I am learning tools to deal with my emotions in a healthy way. But back in June, I resorted to my old ways of avoiding my emotions with food. I fell into a pit that I felt like I could not claw my way out of! I was still working out. I was just eating anything and everything I desired. You see, my problem is that I binge. There will be periods of time (sometime several weeks) where I will eat nothing but McDonald's, Wendy's, ice-cream, donuts, pie, cake, cookies...basically anything sweet and anything fast food. And let me be clear...I'm not talking about 1 Krispy Kreme donut or 2 scoops of ice cream. It is not uncommon for me to go through an entire carton of ice cream or a dozen donuts in one day. I cringe to think of that and am embarrassed to reveal that publicly, but I want you to know that what I am dealing with is not a slight weight problem. I am a food addict. I would love to say that I will never binge again. But I am realistically saying that I did not today. I will say the same thing tomorrow. And as those days accumulate, I will be free! (And I would really appreciate your prayers in this area).

From that period of bingeing this summer I gained 12lbs! I have since lost those 12lbs and have at this point, lost 80lbs total. Some of my problem has been that I binge. But another problem is that I have hit a plateau. This naturally happens when you have been working out and eating healthy regularly. Your body gets to a certain point and you have to ramp it up to keep losing. In addition to zumba (as you just saw in the 4th video), when my schedule permits I am working out twice a day. Once with Tina or zumba, and once on my own with aerobic dvds or on my treadmill or elliptical.

I hear from many of you who are on this journey with me. Knowing that I am not doing this alone encourages me more than I can express. You understand my struggles. You rejoice with me in my victories. You pray for me during my trials. Please know that I do the same for you.

Many of you have asked, so here are a few tips that have helped me on my journey so far:

1. Don't do this alone! I have a couple of friends on this journey with me. We get together for "Fat Night" (as inspired by Ruby) regularly to talk about how we've been doing, how we've struggled, and to pray with each other.

2. Cardio AND weight training are a must! A few weeks ago there was a guy (trying to sell his book) all over the news spouting false information about cardio workouts not being effective. There has been so much debate on this issue so I will just quickly give my two cents. BOTH ARE IMPORTANT! Cardio does help you burn fat, and keeps your heart healthy. Weight training makes you tone and also helps you lose weight because muscle burns fat.

3. A personal trainer is nice, but you don't NEED one. I love Tina. But not all of you can have a Tina. There are so many great workout videos you can do. Lots of people have exercise equipment collecting dust. Take your clothes off of it, kick in some good high energy music, and go for it. These exercise bands are great for resistance (weight) training. I'm a believer in finding something you enjoy doing because you'll be most likely to stick with it. But while you're looking, and when all else fails, walk around the block, do some squats, push ups, jumping jacks, etc.

4. You know my theory on diets. But in case you missed it, I'll just say this: whatever you do, make it something you can do for the rest of your life. Diets work. Until you hit your goal and stop. Then the second you eat a biscuit...BAM...all the weight comes right back (and usually then some)! I know you want to lose it quickly, but wouldn't it be better to lose it slowly and keep it off? Try incorporating more water, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat (chicken and fish) into your diet. And try to limit white products (white bread, white rice, white flour, sugar, etc.).

5. Learn to deal with the things that cause you to turn to unhealthy food. If you are able to work with a counselor, do! Changing your eating and exercise habits are important but you have to dig up the root if you want to experience true freedom.

6. Read things that will help you on your journey: I recommend Fat Chance by Julie Hadden (available December 1), Lose it for Life by Stephen Arterburn (there is a workbook, devotional, and more), and I talk a lot about my weight in Idoleyes - My New Perspective on Faith, Fat, and Fame. (And I haven't read it yet, but I'm sure Ruby Gettinger's Ruby's Diary - Reflections On All I've Lost and Gained is inspiring! Should get mine in the mail next week!)

7. When you fall (notice I said "when" not "if"), GET UP! It is a trick from the enemy to make you feel shame and defeat. Wallowing in that will only keep you down. I have been living on the scripture that happens to be the Women of Faith theme scripture this year: "The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning." (Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT)

Now is your chance to ask me questions. Nothing is off limits (except how much I weigh! Not quite ready to reveal that yet!) I'll compile your questions and post another blog soon with answers.

We can do this together y'all! The journey won't be easy, but it will be worth it!

Jesus came to set us free! See...
"God's Spirit is on Me; He's chosen me to preach the Message of good news to the poor, sent Me to announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to set the burdened and battered free, to announce, "This is God's year to act!"..."You've just heard Scripture make history. It came true just now in this place." (Luke 4:18-21 MSG)

A lot of you have been asking about what songs I like to work out to. Well I finally got off of my duff and decided to let you know once and for all!

I actually have about 15 different work out mixes I use depending on what kind of workout I want. Some songs are slower which is better for elliptical machines, warm ups, and stretches. Hey everyone!
It's been so long since my last blog. I'm afraid I've become so addicted to Twitter that I've neglected myspace a bit. Please forgive me. I'll try to commit equally to both in the future (but can I just say how much fun twitter is?)! You can follow me here if you aren't yet.

Well I had a good, but busy day today! Have you ever heard of the show "American Idol Rewind"? It basically is a re-airing of American Idol but with exclusive interviews from the contestants about what was happening behind the scenes. It is syndicated so comes on lots of different stations: Fox, CW, TV Guide Channel, etc. Well they are currently airing season 4 and just began filming season 5. Today I went down to a local hotel here in Nashville to film my interviews. It was emotional reliving all of that again. It's been 3 years and A LOT has happened since, but I found myself feeling all of those same emotions all over again! And guess who I ran into? Kellie Pickler! I haven't seen her in so long. She's currently on tour with Taylor Swift. Check her out...if you can find tickets (they are selling fast)! Anyways, AI Rewind Season 5 will air in September.

Something else great happened today too! I've been waiting so long for this day and I'm glad that it's finally here! I've heard from so many of you who have wanted to know who Andrew is from the song "You Wouldn't Cry (Andrew's Song)" from my album Freedom. Well now I can finally introduce his story to you. All you need is 30 minutes...and a box of Kleenex. I've read your messages and it means the world to me to hear how that song has comforted so many of you who have loved ones who have passed away. I pray that the story behind the song would mean as much to you as it does to me. Click for here more.

All in all it has been a busy day! But when I got home I had my new ipod shuffle waiting for me in the mail! It's so cute, and little, and pink! I got it because my big bulky ipod skips sometimes when I run out by the lake. This ipod shuffle will clip right on to my shirt and holds just enough songs for a good workout! I already added my favorite workout playlist (God bless Trin-i-tee 5:7, Superchic[k], Britt Nicole, and Group 1 Crew)! They make the best workout music!

Now all I need to do is add some good praise & worship music and I'm set! Just the other day I said to myself that I needed a new worship album, and no sooner than I had the thought, my friend Travis Cottrell released his new album "Jesus Saves (Live)". If you ever saw me in my pre-Idol days, it was probably at a Beth Moore event where Travis is the worship leader. He is one of the best worship leaders I've ever seen and I've learned a lot from him. If you've never heard of him, check him out (just click on his name above). You won't be disappointed!

Well I'm off! "So You Think You Can Dance" awaits me!

Love y'all!

Hey all!

Gotta keep it short tonight cause it is late and I have my weekly Idol phone interviews early in the morning. I just got home from the Robin Thicke/Jennifer Hudson concert tonight in Nashville. It was great ! Seriously...Jennifer's voice is a phenomenon! It is one thing to hear her on the big (and small) screen. It is quite another to hear that voice live. Ww! By the way, is Jennifer pregnant? She looked it tonight but I've not heard anything. Have you?...but I digress...

So I came straight home and watched Idol. I have to make a confession. Based strictly on tonight's performances I would have to give it to Adam and Kris. That pains me so much because you guys know that I have been rooting for Danny since week 1! (But in all fairness, what the heck kind of song is "Dance Little Sister" for Paula to pick for him? Yuck! ) But I digress...

The best performance of the night for me was Kris' "Heartless". My initial thought was one of worry when he said that was what he was doing. But wow! Amazing!

Second favorite was Adam's "One". Good choice Simon...

But speaking of Simon, was anyone else annoyed with the judges tonight ? All that bickering was getting on my nerves!...anyways, I digress.... (hehehe )

All in all, it's a toss up for who will make it to the finale. I feel certain that Adam will definitely be there. But if you had asked me before tonight I would have bet my life that Danny would be with him. After Kris pulled out a great final performance, that may have been enough to guarantee him a spot.

What do you guys think ?

Well certainly no surprises with Rock night on Idol tonight.

1. As I suspected, Adam was flawless . Scary but flawless! And I agree with Randy. This was the first time I actually saw the exact kind of album that Adam should make. I saw no hint of Broadway in his performance. I think he fits perfectly in this genre of music...screams and all!

2. Strangely enough, I expected a bit more from Allison . I do think that she fits perfectly in this genre and that this is the kind of album she should make (bluesy rock). She just missed a few notes here and there. That is to be expected (especially with no dress rehearsal. Believe it or not, it makes a HUGE difference. It is your one and only time to hear the full song with the full band on stage). I'm still a big fan of hers and think she is one of the only people from this season that can have a successful album no matter what place she finishes in.

3. Now I have to disagree with the judges on this one. I loved Kris tonight . First of all, I think "Come Together" is as close to a perfect song as one can get. And I love that Kris was able to put his own unique stamp on it. I actually rank him in second place after Adam for my favs tonight.

4. I hate to say it...I was so disappointed with Danny tonight. That last note was almost as frightening as the looks on Adam's face when he sings (). Before that though, I was with him. I love the raw grittiness of his voice...he just needs to leave the rafter notes to Adam.

Tough to predict who will go home . My guess is Kris. I just think that coming into this week he needed an absolutely stellar performance. And while I personally enjoyed it, I believe the judge's critiques sway voters and they apparently didn't like it as much as I did. The only thing that could be a factor is the fact that Allison talked back to the judges. Believe it or not, this usually does not bode over well with the voting audience. Should be interesting to see what happens.

Who do you think will go home Wednesday?

So....wow! Anyone else shocked about tonight's bottom 2? I know I was. I predicted Matt would go home but I actually thought it would be him and Kris in the bottom 2. But I will say this: The best thing that can happen to an Idol contestant is to be in the bottom three and to not go home. Here is why...all of your fans realize that they have to vote. I guarantee that Adam will sail into the finale because of his bottom two finish tonight. My theory is that everyone assumed he was safe and that he didn't need their vote. Wrong! The person we need to be worried about now is Danny . He is the only one left that has never been in the bottom group. I, for one, have not voted at all this season, but you can bet the farm that I'll be calling in my votes for him next week. Should be an interesting week with Rock n' Roll being the genre. I'm concerned for Danny and Kris. They lean more Soul. Of course Rock is coursing through Adam and Allison's veins, which could add more pressure, but I think they can handle it. Either way, should be interesting.

So what did you think of Natalie Cole? Bless her heart. You know she has hepatitis C, right? I was surprised to see her there. She has a hard time singing because it is hard for her to catch her breath and sustain notes. I wish her the best though and pray for her healing.

And what about my boy Taylor? It was great seeing him back on the Idol stage. Say what you want about him, I think he is an awesome performer. Very energetic and engaging . I was pleased. You?

Jamie Foxx? Well, catchy song. He can really sing too. He just didn't do much of it tonight. My favorite Jamie Foxx moments are when it is just him and a piano. That man can blow! )But I still can't get over the fact that Wanda from "In Living Color" is a mega R&B star now)!

Well, I'm off to bed. Have those early Idol radio calls in the morning. I'll keep you posted by twitter!

Let me know what you thought about this week...

Hey guys!
Sorry about last week. I had planned to blog after results night but my DVR didn't record it ...still don't know why. But it made me worried that it would do the same thing tonight so I actually watched it live for the first time this entire season! I am so glad I had the day off. I haven't been home on a Wednesday night in forever! What is even more of a miracle is that it is GMA week and my schedule is usually packed full. So God is being really sweet to me for giving me a whole day to myself!

Before I get to the results I have some stuff to tell you. If you've been following my tweets you know how hectic the last couple of days have been for me. Wait! I may be getting ahead of myself. Do you guys all know what GMA week is? It stands for Gospel Music Association. It happens every spring here in Nashville. It is a time for Christian artists, radio personnel, and retail to gather together. There are classes, shows, interviews, and such. It all culminates tomorrow with the 40th annual Dove Awards. You can watch them live on Gospel Music Channel at 8pm EST. I'm nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year so be sure to check it out (but my guess is that Natalie Grant is going for year number 4 ... and well deserved)!

Speaking of Gospel Music Channel, there is also a show coming on tomorrow right before the Dove's. It is called From Idol to Inspiration and will be on at 7 pm EST. It is a show about former American Idol contestants who have roots in the Christian music. You'll see interviews from Melinda Doolittle, Chris Sligh, Phil Stacey, and yours truly. There will also be some info on Danny Gokey and some other current contestants. Should be interesting.

Finally, if you are following me on Twitter I will be sure to give you great updates behind the scenes of the Dove Awards tomorrow. Already this week I have run into some of your favorite Christian artists: Barlow Girl, Francesca Battistelli, Matthew West, Bart Millard (from Mercy Me), Brandon Heath, and so many more (and I've got great pictures coming soon too)! Backstage tomorrow should be a lot of fun! Promise to keep you in the loop!

******************************SPOILER ALERT****************************

Now...onto the results tonight. No real surprises for me? You? I actually sent a tweet right at the beginning predicting that Lil and Anoop would go home. I did however, suspect that Matt may be in the bottom three too, but that he would be safe because all of his fans knew he needed their votes since he almost went home last week.

Personally, my favorite performances Tuesday were Danny () and Adam (again). I am holding on to my prediction that it is those two in the finale. But I also loved Kris as well (with his cute self )! But I think Allison will round out the top 3 thsi year (Girl power!). I will say this about season 8 though. I agree with the judges that vocally, this was a very strong top 7. There are some great singers in this competition this year. BUT...I think being successful requires more than a great voice. There is an "IT" factor at play here and leaving my personal favorite voices behind, I actually think only 2 contestants left have "IT". I bet you can't guess who I think those 2 are. Come on. Give it your best try....

Other than who you think I believe has "IT", who do YOU think has the star power necessary to be a successful recording artist/performer?

P.S. I recorded "Praise the Lord" on TBN last night with Russ Taff, Matthew West, Israel Houghton, and Melissa Greene (from Avalon). Melissa ministered to me so deeply. Check out her CD.
