"In one sense we know much less about Earth than we do about
Mars. The vast majority of life forms on our planet are still
undiscovered, and their significance for our own species remains
unknown. This gap in our knowledge is a serious matter: we will never
completely understand and preserve the living world around us at our
present level of ignorance.
"If all mankind were to disappear, the world would
regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten
thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would
collapse into chaos." Edward O. Wilson, The world's leading authority on Biodiversity,
Emeritus Professor of Biology at Harvard and author of "The Creation:
An Appeal to Save Life on Earth."

So, lately, I've been really into Documentaries (more so than ever) and have been on this kick of watching a few per week. The Unforeseen is one of the latest that I have to add to the top of my favorites list.
At a glance:
Robert Redford (whom I very much love as an actor and respect very much as a human being) along with Terrence Malick executive produce Laura Dunn's examination of unchecked development at the expense of environmental sustainability. Using Austin, Texas, specifically Barton Springs, as a backdrop, the documentary draws on archival footage and interviews with Redford, former Gov. Ann Richards, Willie Nelson, lobbyist Dick Brown and Austin land developer Gary Bradley to contemplate the true cost of the American Dream.

Just a random favorite of mine:
"If you compared your troubles, or challenges, with those of others, you would surely find that there are those whose troubles make yours look like minor inconveniences."

A fun atmosphere having Halloween on a Friday this year. Had to work, though. No parties or big hoopla for Kenny. Still, a great vibe in the air last night. It was fun to get all dressed up again- silly, yes, but fun.
Fall is here... Fall has been a bitter-sweet time of year for me the past couple of years; this year, as with each year passing, will be naturally different and with new hopes and dreams, better and better. Deep breaths.
As the season change becomes more and more apparent- leaves falling, the air crisp and cooler- I have a sense of calm. Perhaps good things are on their way. For some, fall my seem like a time of year for endings, but I think this time of years brings about some very good changes.
I find myself in a state of nostalgia lately, but it never hurts us to remember the past. Days, months, years go by. Life, as with the seasons, change. This year seems to hold a whisper of promise in the air.

"When the truth is ugly, people try to keep it hidden, because they know if revealed, the damage it will do. So they conceal it within sturdy walls or they place it behind closed doors or they obscure it with clever disguises but truth, no matter how ugly, always emerges. And someone we care about always ends up getting hurt. And someone else will revel in their pain and that's the ugliest truth of all."

I remember when I first started working for KCUV radio as a part time DJ. I had never heard of the radio station, nor did I know much about the artists I was there to announce when I started my first air shift. But just being there behind the microphone was something that is greater than words. It was a chance for me to use my talents in a way that I had only dreamed of a few years or more earlier. KCUV may not have been the most popular of radio stations in Denver. In the end, that's probably one of the biggest reasons of why its going off the air starting this Monday.
I was given a great opportunity to be a part of something unique. KCUV was a locally-own and operated station. I got to know each one of its awesome veteran DJs and was welcomed as a part of its family. I may not have known much about the music I was playing during my Saturday night DJ shift, but it gave it me a great sense of pleasure to be doing what I love doing and hopefully making a small mark in Denver.
During my time with KCUV I also hosted its public affairs program called "KCUV Cares". Each week for the last 4 months I interviewed prominent organizations making a huge difference in lives of so many people in Colorado and around the world. It's funny... I never imagined I would be a host of such a program, but shortly after I began my work with KCUV Cares I began to feel a great deal of satisfaction knowing that I was helping these organizations and people get their messages across to the public about some really amazing and good causes.
I'm about to head in to the station in a few moments to record my last air shift on KCUV 102.3 FM. While KCUV fades into the airwaves and its era ends, I don't see this as an end. Not for me. This is a new beginning. A chance for me to take what I've experienced these past two years and apply it to my next great adventure.
As Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't cry cause it's over... smile because it happened." Which is kind of ironic, because I posted those very word on my profile only a few weeks ago for a very different reason, but they now have a greater meaning to me.
So, Dr. Suess... that's exactly what I'll be doing as I'm sitting there in that studio chair this morning, talking into that microphone about the latest chart-toppers and newest releases... smiling because I was apart of something wonderful, something I'll never forget.

With the blankest of blank expressions on their faces, these mysterious figures have been popping up in the most unlikely of places.
The faceless mutants have a penchant for A-list celebrity bashes and have been spotted at Elton John's White tie ball and Harrods summer sale, opened by Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall.
With a membrane of skin stretched tightly over their eyes, noses and mouths, the alien-like figures were most recently snapped 'watching' a match perched on Murray Mount at Wimbledon.
Close inspection of the pictures rules out an alien invasion - small perforations around the eye areas of the masks allow the people beneath to see the world outside.
But nobody knows who the faceless figures, who often appear as motionless couples are, or why they are turning up at high profile events.
Theories include the possibilities that they are limelight-seeking pranksters, performance artists or that they are at the centre of a viral marketing campaign for an as-yet unknown product of forthcoming horror film.
Speculation has even arisen that the masks hide a pair of well-know faces, fed up with being harrassed by the paparazzi.
One blogger wrote on the Moue Magazine website: "They probably aren't just random people off of the street.
"If it ends up being a pair of celebrities who have had it with being photographed all of the time and are staging a protest, I vow to support every project they appear on from now on.
"Whatever their purpose, I want to join them. And I have a new Halloween costume for this year.
