HISTORY…
Street Radio is a combination of two styles and two people, Jimi Kendrix and J. Math. By combining classic hip-hop elements with live instrumentation, they are dedicated to making high quality street music that is approachable to a mass market.

While Jimi had been building radio hits for the likes of R. Kelly, Ashanti, & Ja Rule, Math had been making a name for himself as a budding, street oriented producer. Fate had the duo click at significant turning points in their careers, and they started creating music together almost immediately.  What resulted was a unique, new sound that rippled through the music industry.  The perfect combination of radio friendly records and hard-edged street beats became Street Radio.  More than just beat makers, Street Radio production is now known for bringing the full package – creative and conceptual music.

PRODUCTION…
Street Radio hit the ground running in 2007, producing tracks for Bone Thugs N Harmony, Styles P, Papoose, 2Pac and Joell Ortiz.  In 2008, they continue to spread their name with tracks for Foxy Brown, Lloyd Banks, M.O.P., AZ, Big Noyd, Saigon, and topped off the year with the lead single for G-Unit’s T.O.S. album – “I Like The Way She Do It”.  While 2009 has only just begun, Street Radio have already worked with 50 Cent, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Plies, Ray J, M.O.P., and more.

MOVIES & T.V….
2008 also saw Street Radio move into scoring music for DVDs and TV.  They entirely scored the documentary M.I. Yayo hosted by Rick Ross, as well as the independent film Akira’s Hip Hop Shop.  On the television side, MTV enlisted Street Radio for 2008/2009 seasons of Cribs and Man & Wife, while Discovery Channel teamed up with the quickly rising producers to craft music for their new homicide detective reality show, The Shift.

STREET VIDEO…
Street Radio also recently opened their video branch, Street Video.  Headed up by Street Radio collaborator Dylan James, Street Video serves as a video outlet for the constant barrage of street and mixtape tracks Street Radio produces.  Only a few months old with two new videos for Mobb Deep’s Un Pacino and Tha Riot Squad’s Cau2gs, the initial response indicates Street Video could soon be heavy on the scene.

GIVING BACK…
Street Radio also runs a music program through the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service for at-risk adolescents in East New York and Brownsville, Brooklyn.  J. Math serves as the Educational Coordinator for the program, but the 6-month program called Rap, Poetry, & Word is centered on self-exploration through music studies.   Through mentoring, Street Radio help the youth reflect on their lives through writing and recording their personal demos. Focused on capturing the light and the dark in the students’ lives, Street Radio run their program much like they create their music.

STYLES P AND STREET RADIO

TEAM UP FOR GHOST SESSIONS

May 9, 2007

Street Radio, J. Math and Jimi Kendrix, A&Red and produced 6 tracks for Styles P's new album Ghost Sessions, to be released on May 22.  The first of two albums this year, Styles revisited some mixtape verses and recorded new material as well.  Street Radio had a vision for the music & arrangements and worked with SP to create a classic street album.

J. Math says, "It was crazy to be able to sit with Styles and see what direction he's trying to go.  He had a lot of deep verses that were never really released.  Some were just ideas, but we were able to turn them into songs with full soundscapes.  We focused on sculpting the sound to be as impactful as the lyrics."

Street Radio produced songs like "Poor Folk", which features Joell Ortiz and was also released on his recent debut album The Brick: Bodega Stories.  "Fuck The Police" is a contemplative track about the realities of injustice and the jail system, while "No Remorse" teams SP with J-Hood for one of the darkest songs on the album.

Ghost Sessions also features Kool G. Rap, AZ, Cormega, and Jimi Kendrix himself.  Jimi says," We've been writing a lot of hooks with our tracks.  We like to present songs with some kind of direction, not just a beat.  We always got some crazy themes and sound effects; it only made sense to start jumping in the booth too.  Some may be surprised to see I did the hook on "Pain", but you gonna start seeing a lot more of that from us."

Street Radio is currently working with AZ on his forthcoming album to be released in August.  After hearing some beats, AZ immediately recruited them to handle 90% of the production.  AZ says, "Working with these dudes is like working with Dr. Dre.  They come with the whole picture and it all has their own feel to it."

The production team recently produced one of the highlight tracks, "9mm", on Bone Thugs N Harmony's new album Strength & Loyalty.  Papoose also tapped into the Street Radio sound for the songs "Wheel Of Fortune" and "Victory 2007" off his debut album Nacirema's Dream.  And with five tracks on this summer's new 2Pac album, Street Radio continue to spread their distinguished sound throughout the game.

But through it all, the duo keeps their roots with the community.  Jimi maintains an active life in the church, while Math continues to work with at-risk teens at the A.E.E.P. youth center in Brooklyn.  You can often find them hanging out at the center or running their annual Rap, Poetry, & Word class, which is in its fifth year.
