Hi there dear friends,
I need your help... I am organizing a benefit concert Saturday September 20th at El Rio in San Francisco (3-8pm) and I need your help. The benefit is to raise money for both cancer research and for my brother's family. Two weeks ago I found out that my brother had been diagnosed with a rare strain of cancer. There are only 44 documented cases of the type of cancer he has been diagnosed with and Josh is the youngest. He is only 36 years old.

I know that many many people face and have to fight cancer in this day and age. I know that my brother's situation is not unique, but it is personal to me and I am driven to do anything and everything I can to help. My brother has a 2 small children under the age of 4. His family, like so many, work so hard to make ends meet and the only true gift I have to give him, other than my support, is trying to help raise money by using my music.

The beautiful folks at the El Rio have been amazing and have offered to open their doors to me to hold a benefit to try and help just a little. I don't have all the details of the event yet as I am trying to quickly flesh those out. I just wanted to get the date (Sept 20th 3-8pm) on your radar and beg for your help in spreading the word.

I cannot begin to thank you all for your support and for your good thoughts. You are amazing souls whom I am extremely thankful for in my heart and in my world. I hope to see you on Saturday September 20th at the El Rio. I'll be sending details as soon as I have them.

From my heart...
Take good care,
Heather

Live. Music. Now. is a two-day event celebrating the home-grown and passing-through musicians who keep the flame of the Bay Area music scene burning. On Friday, November 30 and Saturday December 1, 2007, some of the area's best talent – and a number of artists who love touring through our hometown – will gather at the Rockit Room on Clement Street in the Richmond to fête San Francisco and its celebrated tradition of incubating the music of tomorrow. The bill includes locals such as Live. Music. Now.'s founder Heather Combs, Tom Luce (of the band LUCE), Elliot Randall, Victoria George, Megan Slankard, Forest Sun and Mill Valley's Bonnie Hayes. Visiting musicians include (once-local) The Bittersweets of Nashville, Tina Schlieske (formerly of Tina and the B-Sides), Jay Nash, Chris Pierce and Rob Giles all of Southern California; Nini Camps and Amber Rubarth of New York City, and Kristie Stremel all the way from Kansas City, Missouri.

Live. Music. Now. is a grassroots labor of love born in the hearts and minds of a handful of musicians and music fans based in San Francisco. We love live music, we admire the many gifted musicians who eke out a living here, and we are committed to supporting the tradition and culture of the Bay Area music scene. This event is about revitalizing the Bay Area's once-hopping live music scene by providing an opportunity for locals to sample the amazing talent that exists right under their noses. In the interest of keeping the event sustainable but accessible, a pass good for both nights can be purchased online for just $20. Both single night tickets and 2 night passes can be purchased through the Live. Music. Now. Website (www.live-music-now.com).

Support local and live music now by getting your tickets today!

Hi there. It's been a while since I've posted something new. Been writing some which is good. I think I was afraid to write for a while. Writing is such a personal thing for me and I suppose I have felt a bit exposed for some time now. I guess the writing part is scary on some levels but it's the sharing part that can get really scary -- at least inside of me that is! Anyway, I am working on some demos of some new stuff to put up here for you all to check out, but in the meantime I will keep posting some of the lyrics for you all to check out. I hope you like them.

This song was a big one for me to write for me. I don't know about you all, but I tend to wear my mistakes like a cloak around my shoulders as if those made me who I am. Lord knows I have made my share of mistakes in this life. But I am trying to learn from them, grow from them, open from them rather than closing. I don't know. I think that's what this is about. I hope you like it.

My Mistakes

Well I have searched high and wide
For certainty in a world outside
Where g
uarantees are bought and sold
But love is worth much more than gold
So I will make my peace with time
And hold my heart as what is mine
My mistakes do not define me
My mistakes do not define me

At times I've given up on love
Inside, outside and up above
Cause nothing shines when the lights are out
And light is what love is all about
So I will make my peace with mine
And hold my heart until its time
My mistakes do not define me
My mistakes do not define me

No one ever said it would be easy
No one said it would make sense
But we grow up in fairytales believing
That someday we'll be saved with just one kiss

Well I have wished upon a star
And prayed for love to find my heart
But love must start on the inside
For that is where true love resides
So I will make my peace with truth
And hold my heart as living proof
That my mistakes do not define me
My mistakes do not define me

No one ever said it would be easy
No one said you'd always win
But destiny is not something that's waiting
It's there inside you hoping you'll begin

Well I have searched high and wide
For who I am in the world outside
Where
who we are is all we have
And few are willing to take a chance
So I will make my peace with truth
And I will open up to you
My mistakes do not define me
My mistakes do not define me

underdog

I keep waiting
For something to change
For something clever to say
For something better than another day

I keep trying and trying
To open my wings
To only say the right things
To find something that means something

They'll tell you everything it happens for a reason
But I don't think that I believe them anymore

So I'm trading in this losing hand
Come on deal me in again
Won't you give a kid a fighting chance?

Oh oh
I'm willing to take a shot
I don't care if it's against the odds
                Everybody loves the underdog
                Oh oh

I hear you saying
You want someone to love
But no one's ever good enough
No one ever seems to make the cut

Well my darling
You gotta loosen the reigns
You gotta loosen the chains
You gotta give your heart to get the same

They'll tell you that the chance of losing it ain't worth the risk
I think if you take it you know it is for sure

And I'm trading in this heart of stone
It's been broken since the day I was born
Won't you give a kid a heart of gold?
                Oh oh
I'm willing to take a shot
I don't care if it's against the odds
                Everybody loves the underdog

Bridge:  When it's your chance to place that bet
Will you lay 'em down or go all in
What if it's the only chance that you get? What then?
Only you can know what you can take
How far you can bend before you break
But everybody knows just what's at stake
            Oh oh oh oh

They'll all tell you that'll you win if you just play it safe
I think safe doesn't sound like winning much to me

(repeat both choruses)

Everybody loves the underdog…
Everybody loves the underdog…
Everybody loves the underdog…
Yeah everybody loves the underdog…
