CHAPTER THREE
And now we come to a pivotal point in the story of the minstrels. A life changing part, a part that has just happened to them. And this part will be short and to the point, as good news should be.
The minstrels had developed both a Signature Look and a Distinctive Sound, the former with the guidance of the Oracle and the assistance of their spirit animals. The latter, however, was achieved partly because of the Signature Look but mostly (ok, completely) because the minstrels were talented and driven and full of passion for music.
These passion and talents became very well known and regarded by the peasants in the states of South Cahrolynah, Gorghia, Flohridah and Virginyah. For the minstrels, traversing the countryside in a glorious maroon carriage called Ron was a favorite pastime, where they met other great lads of traveling troops and forged friendships and bromances. And they had adventures that will be told to the people of the interwebz in subsequent chapters, for now is not the time.
In a far off land called Seeahtuhl, an ancient tribal council of wizards lived, and they were tasked with finding and nurturing talented minstrels throughout the globe. They were led by two wizards of distinction, who were wizened and grizzled and one was called Nail and one was called Tooth.
And so it came to pass that word of the great feats and musical stylings of minstrels from Laymahr came to the far off land of Seeahtuhl, and the wizards Tooth and Nail took notice and sought them out, wanting to meet them and archive their sound on vinyl, so that it might be played throughout the world by power of phonograph.
The minstrels convened in Layhmahr to discuss the matter at length. But lengthy discussions were not warranted, as the minstrels knew what they wanted and what they’d been working toward and this was it and this was happening. And so the strongly bearded Jamie, mulleted Zachary, dreadlocked Andy, fairehaired JJ, and manchild Dane put quills to parchment and signed a record deal with Tooth and Nail.
And now our story finds the minstrels in the town of Seeahtuhl, locked in soundproof rooms as their sweet sounds and harmonies are transcribed for the all world to hear.

CHAPTER TWO
Here our story continues.
As you may recall, a troop of minstrels had banded together in the faire towne of Laymahr. They spent their days frolicking in the meadows, jaunting down the lanes of Laymahr, and retreating to the cool dens of solitude within the compound where they slumbered. Amongst the shenanigans of their daily lives, the minstrels also composed melodies which awed and impressed the peasants of the surrounding townes and villages.
But something was missing. The minstrels sensed it and the convened to discuss the matter at hand, but could come to no conclusions. They decided to arrange a consultation with The Oracle, a prophetess who had hair of unclassifiable colour but sass and wisdom and cleverness in spades. In modern times, such a relic would be called a life coach. The Oracle, who was very busy and well regarded, deigned herself to meet with the minstrels of Laymahr. She had foreseen great things in their future, things that hinged upon her ability to guide them.
“Boys, be you full of talent and conviction, you are missing an important piece in the Puzzle of Lyrical Stylings. You are missing a Signature Look. I beseech you, journey to the forests, to the plains, to the jungles and seek out your spirit in animal form. I can say no more, I’ve said to much, I wish you luck in your quests. Now leave, I have much more important things to do- there are unicorns to tame and gentle.”
With that, The Oracle dismissed the minstrels, who reconvened in Laymahr to discuss what they had learned. Zach and Andy, who thought themselves older and wiser, were skeptical of The Oracle’s power, but they would soon be punished for their erroneous, duplicitous thoughts and decided to succumb to her wisdom and teachings, as Jamie had done before them.
And so, after many long goodbyes and tears and bro-hugs, the minstrels separated and set out in search of their spirit animals.
Zach, who fancied himself a lyrical stylist and amateur luchador, was the first to encounter his spirit in animal form. He had trekked no further than the village of Hahrtzville before he felt drawn to a shaded glen, where sat a rabbit. To his surprise, the rabbit whispered, whispered words of wisdom.
“Dear sir! I perceive that we are two beings who are alike in all ways except genetics and also, I have fur that is better styled. Please seek your full potential! Seek your destiny! Seek a mullet, a mullet that will be the envy of the townspeople. A mullet for the ages.”
And with that, he hip hopped away into the shadows. Once recovered from the initial shock of a hearing an animal speak, Zach realised the wisdom in his words. A mullet would set him apart, enhance his lyrics and his life.
Meanwhile, Jamie had travelled northward, to a tiny towne called Peekhens. He felt the urge to hike, and so he did, falling no less than seven times as he struggled up the face of the rock. He felt strangely drawn to a dark and ominous cavern, and so he entered, his Hell Hammer poised in case of attack. He need not have worried, however, because a wise bear was seated upon a wooden stump, awaiting him. And when the bear spoke, Jamie was not surprised. He had always expected that animals would find their voices in his presence. He was kind of a big deal.
“Gentle James… it pains me to see you this way, with shorn hair and collared shirts. You are a bit of a bro. See the errors in your ways and let nature take its course. I forsee a beard and hair of epic proportions. The beard will be strong in the neck region and will be the envy of the kings. And the hair will stop the hearts of the damsels.”
And so Jamie followed the words of the bear and beared out. And the ladies swooned.
Months passed, and Jamie and Zach heard nothing from Andy, the manchild Dane, or fairehaired JJ, who had voyaged to the jungles of Ahfreeckah in pursuit of their spirit animals. Because of their bromance, Jamie and Zach were able to perceive that nothing was amiss and remained content in the towne of Laymahr, awaiting the return of the missing minstrels.
Meanwhile, in the jungles of Ahfreeckah, the Hahwhyans skipped along, not a care in the world, until they discovered a gorilla and a giraffe, dozing in a sunlit clearing. They shuddered to a halt, knowing at once they had finally found what they were looking for.
The gorilla spoke first, to the fairehaired JJ.
“We are so alike, and yet, so different. And the difference, young lad, is our hair. Do not be constrained by societal norms. Let your hair roam free, let it breathe! I gave the same advice to Farrah Fawcett. You would do well to do the same.”
And with that, the gorilla grabbed hold of a nearby vine and vanished into the mist, leaving the giraffe, who spoke to the manchild, Dane.
“Manchild, my direction to you is simple. I will not waste my time advising you to grow a beard or sideburns of legendary proportions- we both know that is not possible for you. Also, you would look ridiculous with a beard. For you, unnaturally tall manchild, I envision a baby mullet, a tribute to Zachary and a recognition of your manchildness. And maybe some nerd glasses, to enhance your bone structure.”
In a nearby plain, which was free of rain and not in Spain, Andy sat perfectly still on a solitary rock, meditating and awaiting his spirit animal. He would not seek it out, oh no, for he felt sure his spirit animal was in search of him. And correct he was, for a pride of lions approached him, and the most prominently maned of them all sprung onto the rock where Andy sat, so that they might chat, man to lion.
“Andy, you are already on the right track. You are a more advanced study of good hair than your counterparts. Knowing this, I know you will dedicate yourself toward the grooming and upkeep of what I ask you to do. I will say one word and that one word is your fate: dreadlocks.”
Several months later, for voyages by ship took several fortnights, the minstrels reunited in Laymahr. After much group hugging and tears of happiness and bouncing at seeing one and other, they immediately recognized that things would be different. They now had guidance, they now had direction, they now had Style.

CHAPTER ONE
Once upon a tyme, in the faire town of Laymahr,
lived two young lads called Jamie and Andy who lived in a glen of
solitude and jam sessions, never venturing beyond the rolling hills and
stillness of Laymahr, content that they had the best hair in the land.
And serene in this knowledge they remained, until they one day they
heard of a chap from the neighbouring borough of the states. This lad
was called Zachary and in addition to having distinctive hair, he also
had a way with the words. Zachary was so taken with Jamie and Andy (and
their hair) that he moved to Laymahr so that they may practise their
craft together, forever. (He certainly did not move there for the night
life.)
As the minstrels began to travel about, putting their
words to music in front of the local peasants, they realised that
something was missing. And so they cast out a call to arms, a call for
a percussionist. The call was answered by a drum banger in the far off
and distant land of Hahwhyee. An unnaturally tall manchild called Dane
had heard word of the great feats and talents of the minstrels from
Laymahr. He was an eager lad, eager to make noise for the townspeople
of South Cahrolynah and eager to improve his hair. But before he
ventured east, towards the sun and humidity, he had a suggestion.
“Gents!
Please take some of your precious time away from Mortal Kombat and lend
an ear to my best mate, JJ. He is a wizard with stringed instruments!”
The
boys were moved by his plea, and his promising hair, so they used the
power of the social networking equivalent of a carrier
pigeon/stagecoach express called YouTube to watch moving pictures of
the fairhaired JJ. They were so taken with both his musical stylings
and hair that they invited both Dane and JJ to move to their towne and
join the troop.
And thus begins our tale, the story behind the
band. The story of how they grew to fame and glory and even better hair
than before.
