Current mood:  accomplished

Was just listening to The Beatles classic "Here comes the Sun on my mate Danny's page, and thought I would write down exactly what happens in this song to come up with a timeless work of genius. So here are my notes. More for my benefit than anyone who might be reading, but if you are really bored...

ac. guitar plays gorgeous, sunny, memorable riff.

lead vocals

cellos

drums and bass

harmony vocal

very simple arrangement

small drum kit

melody and lyrics are forefront, with very clean supporting lines.

bridge is cool variation, repeated 6 times with distorted e. guitar, live claps and recorder.

Organ comes in for last verse, playing single notes, providing greater dimensions.

Pure smegging genius. And not a bit too complicated for your average joe.

Current mood:  creative
Yesterday I FINALLY got my work permit in the mail, and so now I am looking for help to kickstart my music career here in North America.  I am booking gigs at schools, churches, events/parties, anywhere where people will really listen, and I won't be earning my wage from alcohol sales.
The best place to do this is AT HOME!  Have you ever put on a house concert?  Its easy!  All you do is:
1.  Book one of your favourite musicians (i.e. Me!)
2.  Clear a space in your living room/basement, to seat 20-50 people (depending on the size of your room).  Borrow or rent some extra chairs if needed.
3.  Invite all your friends.
4.  Organize some light refreshments (potluck if you like)
5.  Charge $10 each at the door, to pay the artist and cover any expenses (like chair rental).
6.  Enjoy the show!

In my view, house concerts are the most intimate and meaningful way to experience music, where everyone can meet and speak to the artist, and you can hear every note and every breath.  No crowds, no inflated ticket prices and $5 Cokes, no flashy lights and smoke machines, just MUSIC, up close and personal.  Many people who try this once end up doing it every month, and their friends love them for it.  With a bit of experience, you can quickly book some of the biggest names in independent music - many touring performers fill up their calendar with house concerts around their main tour dates.

If you or your friends don't have a suitable home but would like to put on a concert, contact me and we can work something out.  There is always a venue, always a way.  Looking forward to singing for you soon!

Here I am in Los Angeles, just for a week, to do some recording with a friend. He's currently working full-time and planning his wedding (next week!) so I have plenty time to myself for sunbathing, doodling, surfing myspace etc.
I've been to LA 3 times before, and always thought of it as the most soulless, ugly, depressing place I'd ever been, but this time I'm loving it...
True enough, most of us grow up with a powerful love-hate relationship to Hollywood, glamour and such, so its understandable I would have mixed feelings. but, ytrying to look with unbiased eyes, L.A. has fantastic weather, the most abundant and delicious fruit, interesting shops, stalls and restaurants, enormous, gorgeous beaches, a truly global population, and so many talented people. I'm sure I could be disgusted by it all if I let myself, but whats the point?
"Always look on the bright side of life..."
come on, you can all whistle!
