Been working on a cool project I wanted to tell you about...

Following releases for Jellyfish and The Posies, Alan Heaton of Burning Sky Records has done it again.  He's assembled a group of amazing bands and musicians from all over the world to put a new spin on the catalog of the legendary ROXY MUSIC, and on September 15th will release "Take Refuge In Pleasure:  The Songs of Roxy Music Revisted."

Alan asked if I wanted to submit a track for this release, and suggested I have a go at "Trash," off their Manifesto disc.  It's a fun track, so I took a shot at trying to capture all the energy, attitude, and, um, sleeze of the original -- and I'm proud to say that the track is included on the "Deluxe and Delightful" 3-disc version of the release (there's also a single disc version available).

OK -- link time!

Give "Trash" (and other songs) a listen on the "Songs of Roxy Music Revisted" MySpace profile:
http://www.myspace.com/songsofroxymusicrevisited

And -- order the discs directly from Burning Sky Records:
http://www.burningskyrecords.com/

The project will also be available for download from all the usual suspects (Amazon, iTunes, etc) once it's released on 9/15.

So, come on -- take IN the Trash!

Cheers,
Steven

Current mood:  adventurous
So...ya think social networking has changed the way we communicate?  D'uh...

For that reason, I'm going all in...and besides this monster called MySpace that we are all indebted to -- I'm spreading the old eggs across a few different baskets and getting into bed with Facebook and Twitter too (and, don't tell anyone, but they both steal the covers).

So -- please join my Facebook "Fan" page here...

And, follow me, @SWrightMark,  on Twitter too...

See ya out there!

Report from the concert front...

Met up with Burning Sky Records president Alan Heaton, and went to see The Posies Friday night at The Bell House in Brooklyn.  First of all -- WAY cool venue.  Highly recommended.  If you're in the NYC area, definitely check out their calendar of events -- probably the best new music venue in the city (in my opinion).

After a couple of good opening acts (The Brunettes and Tally Hall), The Posies hit the stage around 11 pm and performed their classic "Frosting On The Beater."   This has long been one of my favorite discs, and I had the pleasure of working with FOTB producer Don Fleming to cover "Burn and Shine" from that disc, for "Beautiful Escape: The Songs of the Posies Revisited" (on Burning Sky Record -- get the connections here? lol).  Sooo...the very prospect of seeing them perform this live, from start to finish, was incredible...but their performance was even beyond what I could have expected.  They were ON FIRE.   Killed it.  Amazing pop songs played with passion and ferocity.

Bottom line -- if they are playing in your town and you don't go see them... I feel sorry for you.  GO!

Think I'm gonna go blast "Definite Door" now...

Cheers,
Steven

Just posted a new song on my profile -- my cover of The Posies "Burn And Shine," which appears on "Beautiful Escape: The Songs of the Posies Revisited," just released on Alan Heaton's Burning Sky Records. This is a pretty amazing 3-disc, 45-song power pop masterpiece -- you gotta check it out.

My version of "Burn and Shine" is quite a bit different than the original, but just LIKE the original, my version was mixed by none other than legendary producer Don Fleming (who produced The Posies original version on their "Frosting On The Beater" disc, as well as Teenage Fanclub, Sonic Youth, Alice Cooper, Pete Yorn, and more), and who also plays some blistering lead guitar and sings with me on the track...along with in the comparable R. Stevie Moore on piano.

Please give it a listen, and lemme know what you think!...

If you're a fan of smart, catchy, witty and unforgettable pop music (and who's not?), how can you NOT be a fan of Jellyfish? They released only two "official" CDs some years ago, but both CDs are pop classics. And today, the coolest tribute CD ever has been released...

"Sensory Lullabies: The Ultimate Tribute to Jellyfish" is now available from Burning Sky Records -- click here! - http://store01.prostores.com/burningskyrecords .

The two-disc set has 35 amazing tracks -- covering their "Bellybutton" and "Split Milk" CDs in their entirely, along with 13 rare and previously unreleased tracks, including my own cover of "I Don't Believe You" (which they had originally written for Ringo Starr, and appeared on one of his solo CDs).

Some covers are true to the originals, some covers put an interesting and different spin on things, and other covers are so different you'd barely recognize them...but they are all fresh and inventive. There's more info on their MySpace profile too -
http://www.myspace.com/jellyfishtributealbum

Go check it out -- you won't be disappointed.

Cheers,
Steven
