CARPE fucking NOCTEM
This is normally my favorite day of summer. Last year lots of punks converged on our hometown digs to get all sorts of twisted. Some highlights last year were:
-a booze soaked softball game (minor injuries sustained by numerous friends - broken thumbs etc)
-a DIY slip n slide consisting of the biggest piece of plastic we could find at home depot and a shitton of dish soap
-certain older friends fraternizing with certain friend's younger sister's friends = FUCKIN AMERICA
-unabashed debauchery and rock n roll in owen's (noumenon) parents suburban home
Seriously, people in the neighborhood actually slow down to marvel at this scene, and we hope you can be part of it this year. How better to celebrate AMERICA than by relishing in suburbia with open liquor in public parks, drinking before noon, challenging the manhood of your friends on the softball field, and rocking to some of the best bands in the midwest and beyond.
Moreover, Nick is a very busy man examining vaginas and watching babies enter the world, and Mike will be leaving for Philadelphia to be an Ivy Leaguer in August, so your chances to see Oceans in our OG lineup may be slim.
Keep it all midwestern, Ryan broceans

Hey everyone, hows it going? Just writing to let everyone know that Anthony has gone mad with deals and everything over at Copper Lung Records is half off. That means that you can pick up our CD for 50% off, while over there you can also check out the other releases from bands like Teenage Cool Kids, Soul Control, Gray Ghost, and all the other cool bands. Head on over to www.copperlungrecords.com to check it out. We should start playing more shows again this summer and try to write and maybe even record some new stuff. Who knows? Take care.

Dear friends,
The "Y-2-Slay" / "Hang Balls, No Regrets" tour was a spectacular success. After a lot of T-Bell and even more T-Pain hits later, we are back home begrudgingly accepting our regular daily schedules once again. Seeing Native play every night was a real treat and we wish it could have lasted longer, but I think we made all our dates count by playing hard and hanging harder.
Tour Thanks
Thank you to:
-Native for being an awesome band, awesome peoples, and really small in physical size, making my van experience all the more pleasurable. They also read a lot of Buttman Magazine -Buttman Magazine for publishing the most deplorable material I have ever seen -Killer Cunningham for always staying posi -Hannah "the Roz" Rosner for providing much needed female balance and motherly care....er something like that -Jake Norris and everyone at the Norris Fun-Land for letting us shoot their semi-automatic weapons, play with their horses, raid their fridge(s), and ride their motorcycles -Erfert for having the most puzzling band name I have ever heard of -Pigs on Ice for having a wildly extravagant laser light show -Blo-No bros, Porch Honkey/Simple Days, Mark, John, Glenna, Nate, Jeremy -Ghost towns for being great dudes and showing mercy after I botched an attempt at a "My friend peter" cover at their hometown show -everyone in Canyons for screening the Dark Knight and Cheaters on a projector screen -Mountain Asleep for showing us around Lousiville and broing down hard -Cheaters for being the most ridiculously scripted television show ever -Joey Greco of Cheaters for taking a vicious stabbing in the name of fidelity -Canyons, Total Resistance, Colon-izer, Geraldo, Loose Lips Sink Ships, Hunter Gatherer, Mountain Asleep, Xerxes, How to Murder, and anyone we played with that I have forgotten -Jennifer at the Voodoo Lounge ;) -Nashville for existing. I still can't believe it. People actually wear cowboy boots and hats and drink from mason jars and only listen to music with slide guitars -all the fantastic DIY spaces we were able to experience, including the Haunted Basement, the Ghost House, the Canyon House, Lemp Arts Center, and Skull Alley -Megan and Amanda for being great friends and driving from NW Indiana to St Louis to hang balls on New Years Eve -Dave Summers for showing us the $5 dollar shopping spree and taking rad pics -All our best friends who came to see us, everyone who checked out oceans or native and then came and saw us, everyone who listened thoughtfully, everyone who showed us hospitality, it means so much. THANK YOU
Label News
Copper Lung Records will be releasing our full length album "Nothing Collapses"! The release will be Copper Lung's first full length and will be available on CD now and perhaps vinyl on a later date, although no plans for vinyl are solid quite yet. We are working with Three Bears design on the album art, and as soon as it is done, the album will be going to print. The official pre-sale should be up soon, and we couldn't be more excited to be working with Anthony and co. at Copper Lung. Check out our great company at www.copperlungrecords.com

Hey all,
We just got our masters back from good ole Nick Zampiello of New Alliance, and we are pretty psyched on them. Four tracks from the upcoming album are posted for your criticisms and/or enjoyment. Also, the album is called Nothing Collapses.
Thanks to everyone who came to the This Will Destroy You / Lymbyc System show and making it a special night for us. Thanks to the Bottom Lounge for having a hilariously large backstage, giving us our own dressing room with our name on it, and providing us with PBR and Sparks. Turns out the dressing room was pretty necessary for Keith's midset costume change into the zebra print leotard.
Tell us what you think of the new tracks!
Yup,
Oceans

Current mood: chipper
Yup, we've pretty much added a newb to our lineup. His name is Luis and I have trouble spelling his last name, but it starts with a B. You can call him Luis B. He is featured throughout our album and we didn't want to be one of those bands whose record sounds nothing like their live show, so we bit the bullet and brought this mildly irresponsible youngster along. He showed up to his first practice with no way to amplify his violin and didn't think it was an issue...? Yeah, but he is a music major and really talented, so we'll tolerate it.
He'll be playing the Bottom Lounge on Sept 9th with This Will Destroy You / Lymbyc System, and he will also be with us for Murder By Death / Oxford Collapse at Pygmalion Music Festival, and most likely all subsequent shows?
Things Luis B brings to the table: 1) Venezuelan afros 2) Sweet violin riffs 3) Trash Staches 4) Rowdiness
See you at the Bottom Lounge and Krannert Art Museum - say hi to Luis, Ryan

It is Monday evening and I am thoroughly exhausted. We have reluctantly returned home from our amazing "Why Dis Sticky" Summer Tour 2008 with our best buds Noumenon. Most shows were absolutely incredible and even the ones that weren't were still fun because we got to listen to Noumenon rip a set.
Thanks to the Reptilian, Teenage Pharaoh, Native bros for hanging, jasmine the three legged ferret, Saint Ohio / Ryan, Jeremy, Steph and her family and sweet dogs, Ron-DMC, Sean and Clara and their crazy dogs, waffle house, Monument, Hillary and CCAS, Heist and the Accomplice, BJ and the Unkept Hairz for the brutal mosh, Tom and 700 social club, Sam / Terrifica, Ivan, Evan, Ani and her sisters for cupcakes, Monster Eiffel Tower and all the drugged-out hipsters at the Lit Lounge, Chris Wade, Mr. Arneson for paying our NYC parking ticket, Inmust, Allison and her roomies, Trevor and all the bros in Syracuse, Eric Ayotte for lifting our collective tour spirit, Jordan / Dave at Kling Thing for making my birthday raucous and buying me powerful shots that may have caused temporary blindness, Matt, Taco Bell, Dave Kloc, Adam T, Chris Plumb and all of Supercontinent for being the heaviest band I have ever seen, the Metal Frat for being rad, Pita Kabob in Ann Arbor for creating Meagan's Pita, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Hewhocorrupts for the van, Bongripper for the trailer, and finally to everyone who hung out and made this tour a wildly memorable experience - we love you dearly.
I can't go into details with how many people, places, and things I fell in love with these past 10 days, but they gave our music a purpose and our travels an aim. Thank you.
Love, Ryan Oceans

Firstly, thanks to everyone who came to the beat kitchen last night and made it a very special night for everyone. Huge thanks to Mt St Helens for having us and to Birth Rites and Hinter for playing amazing sets. There is nothing like having all your friends under one roof getting fired up. We'll do it again soon.
Secondly, we just put up some new UNMASTERED tracks up on the site. That means they are pretty quiet, you've got to jam them hard - pump 'em way up they way they were meant to be pumped. Myspace compression and file conversions means these songs sound way better not being listened to through myspace, so get that album when it comes out.
Stay tuned for more songs / mastered tracks!
Love, Ryan

Current mood:Exhausted in a good way
Yesterday we finished tracking the album, tentatively titled "License to Riff", and we could not be more happy with the way it is shaping up. Some highlights have been: 1) Being in Humboldt Park for Puerto Rican pride weekend of some sorts, I can't remember the actual title. Typical celebrations included draping flags across any somewhat level surface, hanging out of moving vehicles while driving over 40 mph down North Ave honking horns, and calling me Harry Potter. We met a particulalry affectionate crew who reminded us that despite them "doing some shit" in the past and "spending 8 years in the hole", Puerto Ricans love every body. They went on to prove this by giving us beers out of their trunk and telling us that when we get big we must shine a light down on them at our shows (?), in which case it would be appropriate for us to exclaim "I know that bitch!". Our new friend Jose also reminded us that he in fact does not like people named Greg, but I do not believe this is illustrative of Puerto Ricans as a community. Overall, they were kickass dudes, and throughout the 15 minutes we hung out, I'm pretty sure none of us said more than "Oh Yeah!", "Sure", "Totally!", "I hear ya", and "Thanks for the beer". 2) Cranking a Sunn Model T to 10 and tuning down to A. Earthshattering. 3) Cranking a Sunn Model T to 10 and tuning down to C. Chyea! 4) Watching and subsequently quoting this Drunk Redneck5) Having ~12 of our friends come in to sing in the bro/bronita choir and then flipping the switch to freak mode. We were so thrilled to have them there and they were excited to throw down, and it all really translated once freak mode was achieved. Thanks to the Reptillian, Noumenon, Dave, Al, Max, Branden, and K Rob for helping us get there. 6) Our friend Luis coming in to riff some violin. We figured we might want one real musician on the album. 7) Our (real) producer Adam T. Everyone should be so lucky to work with a person like this. Yesterday, we got done mixing a Boy Detective, Ways With Wolves, Your Plane Leaves Tomorrow, and Terrified of What We Might Become. Everything sounds purlin'. I can't wait to share it with people. Stay tuned friends. Woot! Ryan P.S. Our album is not tentatively slated to be titled "License to Riff"

Current mood:PSYCHED
Yeah, we are doing it up nice and big this time. Today, we'll be heading to Sentient Studios to record our full length with Adam "Babyface" Tattro (sic) of Supercontinent / Idol and the Whip. This will bang, no doubt about it. Lots of bangers. We are re-recording every song off the demo plus 5 new tracks.
Stay tuned, as we will be updating from the studio, complete with provocative shots of us tracking our instruments.
Hope you are as excited as we are.

Current mood: bouncy
few things. we are playing some wild crazy kool shows with CURSIVE and PELICAN coming up in the near future and you should probably come to them. here is why: 1) NEW SONGS that is right, we’ve got some new bangers. one features a particularly heavy ending, which i absolutely love playing because all the hardcore kids nod to their friends when it hits. others are big and epic and loud and quiet at times and feature lots of tremolo picking and delay and overdrive and ...vocals. "VOCALS!?", you may exclaim - yes, vocals is right. here they are so you will know them and can sing along because that is the only way to do it: "boy detective" hey starry eyes, don’t forget to keep smiling - cut your blacktop ties, but don’t forget about me. look at the stars: constellations we never reached, promises we meant to keep to all our childhood rivals. also, while we are at it: "your plane leaves tomorrow" one day you’ll wake up in a strange place. *note: alternative lyrics have been used by cover artists: "oh my god, fuck yeah, it is spring break" 2) NEW SHIRTS hot new stuff coming your way. designed by our talented friend and artist jeff kolar. check out the design under our pictures. the shirt is going to be loud and rowdy. probably be selling them for 10 USD, unless we are playing a clear channel venue, in which case we will charge you 45 USD. 3) DEMO 2K7 AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD ON MYSPACE yup. it has been "released" for over a year now so it is time to declare this intellectual property communal. wear it, share it, pump it on yur alpine with your homies. 4) SUMMER PLANS perhaps releasing a split with Mans. perhaps recording a full length record. for sure touring so BOOK US IN YOUR TOWN! i need some new pants because all mine have ripped due to fierce power stances = we need to hit the road. keith also needs bodywash and mike hasn’t had pink eye in a while = we need to hit the road. nick needs to drive our asses across the country = we need to hit the road. so yeah come find us around town and so we can self aggrandize and talk about our own band and act profound while we discuss the immanence of our "soundscapes". woot, ryan (br)oceans
