I have been working on string quartet arrangements for my upcoming Paris show. The line-up i am allowed :) includes them on my menu.
And during a visit from my americanised twin sister (and lyricist let's not forget) i was invited VIA MYSPACE to record a song for free at livingstone studios.
Manon Grandjean is an intern sound engineer there, who found me on myspace. I gather she contacted some others of you out there, but you thought the offer too good to be true.
Well, you cynics! Although i know from experience that some of these 'virtual approaches' can be rather more appealing than others.. I believed Manon was indeed a genuine humanoid with good intention and as it happens i was bloody lucky to get this opportunity. She is excellent, meticulous and very easy to work with.
I took Philipp Groyssboeck (indecently talented drummer), Vinzenz Benjamin (on fretless-tastic bass), and Ryan Haberfield (axeman extraordinaire) along with my korg MS2000B and we recorded a song i wrote years ago (with lyrics penned by my twin Dina), called "Traffic".
Check the band on their respective myspace pages and you will see how lucky i was to have them play my music. I fully intend to get them on future recordings. I shall lure them with jellybabies and icecream mwoa-hahaaa.
As soon as i have a mix of "Traffic" i will put it on my page. I love it and i loved making it. Thank you boys and thank you Manon.
It was also a pleasure to be back at livingstone studios where 9 years ago i recorded keys and conducted strings for "Busted"...i didn't get to meet them but i think i wouldn't have seen them for all the rosie-porn around me (beautiful grand piano, rhodes and B3 all for me!)
Now i have to relax, sip some wine and look forward to rehearsing for the Pigalle and Paris shows. Thomas Dybdahl is headlining. He is a sensitive and authentic songwriter and performer. I am very happy to be supporting him.
And i am very very very happy to have the company of some brilliant musicians to enjoy it with me.
Over and out! (to eat my stir fry and try to forget the scary but brilliant film"devil's backbone" that me and PG watched yesterday. But now i am home alone and must not allow myself to imagine the scary decomposing boy floating around our flat)
