31 Mei 2009, Prefere 72 Dago Bandung

This is a review from limbo-pillow.blogspot.com The original review is in Turkish, but the reviewer kindly translate it to English for us to post here. You can find the translation after the original review below :
Translation in English :
Talking about different places, I thought I could use an approach that was tingling on my mind for quite some time. Apart from European countries that gave birth to important bands, there are other bands that blossom in distant mountains. You might need extra effort to find them, but they make us believe -medical- herbs do exist, and they never wilt. Marche La Void, is certainly, one of those bands. Cacophonia is the first record of Indonesian band Marche La Void; even though the EP has only 4 songs, but it's just more reason to believe Cacophonia is a four-leaf clover. The lenght of the album may disappoint you indeed, but the depth and density is certainly shocking. The chlorophylls of this plant has familiar chemicals; you might observe a Thom Yorke-like vocal style, not only soundwaves pass through his vocal cords, but a secret pain accompanies the internal music. I, on the other hand, think that Marche La Void is a secret child of Radiohead and Low, raised by post-rock monks, and now teaching their hidden knowledge with us; the knowledge of faint, distant, melancholic and delicate music. If we are to look for flowers in autumn, we don't need to go to florists, if we have a Marche La Void record nearby. Thus we shouldn't simply listen to Cacophonia, we should listen to it like putting a graceful flower in our pockets.

Marche La Void - Cacophonia
Score: 6/10

Marche La Void, a burgeoning group of upstart musicians based out of Indonesia, dropped a four-song EP onto the landscape a while back entitled Cacophonia that piques the interest of the consumer but leaves the listener realizing afterward that the band is making its first foray into a musical realm that is just as hard to get noticed as it is to be distinguished amongst the crowd.
Their debut release is not quite slowcore, nor is it down-tempo for that matter, but like most music with depth, it's an excellent listen with a pair of good headphones. The mastering is top notch, and whatever ambience the band is shooting for is dutifully translated through the ramshackle collection of instruments at hand.
If there's a conflict on this record, then perhaps Cacophonia doesn't know about its existence. It wants to be a moody post-rocker or at least a drone-like evolution of a similar state. Vocals are random, not always intelligible, and not always the best fit with the oft-times tranquil mood established by the distortion-laden guitars. When the lyrics require some emotion, the resulting sound is similar to Chris de Burgh entering the studio to re-record "Lady in Red" but standing about 10 paces behind the microphone.
Ultimately, the vocal tracks verge on the edge of being whiny at times but fade to a distant, echo-like resonance - almost like the wail of a dusty string instrument. One can detect a sort of pain or even disdain with some of the cries, but he's not about to tell you what's causing his malaise. We are left to wonder, much like with the album, what could be done to improve upon the situation. The vocals are also unable to elaborate on the hard-hitting emotion that sits at the underbelly of this record. Its strength lies in its instruments, which often meander as well, but leave a far more effective impact upon the listener. When slow progressive builds make way for the entrance of drums after the first track is more than half completed, one can tell there's been careful attention to the arrangements. The mixture that works pretty well is featured on "Fortified Emptiness," a track with vocals backwashed against the album's most aggressive display of drums and electric guitar. But even with this highlight, we still have an identity crisis on our hands. The strongest instrumental performance of the album is present on the track with the most distracting set of vocals on the disc. They simply don't belong and distract from the music that one wants to hear.
By the conclusion of the nearly nine-minute finale, the listener isn't looking for the repeat button – they've already fulfilled the afternoon's obligation for a siesta. Marche La Void has the groundwork to become a very successful ambient outfit. The group simply needs to polish some of the dust and make its product more distinguishable. When we get finished listening to their full-length release to come forth at a later date, we will hopefully replay it once or twice instead of nodding with content and sending the scroll wheels on our iPods scrambling to more comfortable music. -Bill Morgal

THEM AS PYROS
...and she wishpers in silence of the things that have passed and died there she sits in her wisdom as she gaze to the velvet sky
burn down the days and torch the night to blaze burn down the days and torch the night to blaze... for you
keep her secrets like millions as she lights up the vacant fire to her window she reasons while she stare to the blood red sky
burn down the days and torch the night to blaze burn down the days and torch the night to blaze... for you
---------------------------------------------------------------
SCIENTIFIC DESPAIR
twist me, hold me again choose me, for all that I cannot be voices frozen up instead away, away too much
as far as you go unnoticed I can't pretend and for all that we can haste it you can always fulfill thee and when I'm on despair
comes the rain washes away the self aching mind wishpering calm and now you will be safe
safe from despair
more to envy on our path on our hatred everyday took it more than less to break all alone to wear my crown
I'm on despair I'm on despair despair I am
------------------------------------------------------------
FORTIFIED EMPTINESS
crowning my empty with these redish the flavour I scent glowing out and leaking out my spine landscapes are made of our mess
arms of the day I'll taste you back let my sight be yours blind to the sight of lie dressed in crowns with the stars arouse
break down my walls burst against our trench breaking down and hurting my pain protect these, protect my own size
cruelty I lie in the ground how am I suppose to comply breaking is easy you'd bored runabout runabout tripping the risk
out of sight and out of breath take this mind I've craved everlasting emptiness that is all I need
where's the sound.... here I come wait up she said..... here we come bottomless of emptiness it's taking time I hope we're there in time hope it stays everytime
----------------------------------------------------------
DEPRIVING THE DISTANT THOUGHT WITHIN EVERYTHING THAT COMES BETWEEN
ever seen the glance of you're smile inch of me come peeling down again this is what I've got to go through peeling off the floor and back again
I control......... I still can't resist
hearing you this time all the things I can't imagine all the things I tend to forget and thing I tried to fake
cast apart........ away
against every words seems so wrong yes I'm still here.... I'm still
breaking up the song to prove that I can go to prove that I can breath resent that I'm alive
ever fall......... again
my nothingness that's everything don't leave a mark........ hurts a lot
shine through the sky leaving me crossed... I'm not burned there's a time I will burst....
I will....

Review by Stargazer @ kaskus.us Mengukuhkan eksistensi dengan mengangkat tema ineksistensi? Hmm… "and she whisper in silence / of the things that have passed and died // there she sits in her wisdom / as she gaze to the velvet sky..."Cukup sudah. Saya tertekan. Sedikit kemiripan nada membuat saya berfikir, "Apakah ini memang sekuel dari "Them As Pyros" ?". Sebuah bukti kematangan bermusik seluruh personil Marché la void. Akhirnya, kehormatan diberikan kepada "Depriving The Distant Thought Within Everything That Comes Between" sebagai penutup. -StargazeR- http://www.kaskus.us/showpost.php?p=14968905&postcount=4188

marché la void's EP review
by Xenosoma (postrockerz blog team) CACOPHONIA "Having a different and diverse musical taste's from each of the members in a band can be a bit tricky, it could wander to nowhere or provide something interesting and unique. For Marche La Void, it's the later. Started out with "them as pyros", Marche La Void moving it up tracks by tracks. There's some added progression after every tracks. Most notably in "Fortified Emptyness", when the guitars starting to loosen up with melodic styling of Radiohead and Psychedelic King Crimson. Then, probably one of the best final tracks in 2007 "depriving the distant thought within everything that comes between" they bring out their best in this track. The lulling guitar soundscape which work hand in hand with the deep vocal's that fits in the texture of the sounds. and from 05:00, everything's blend into one epic beautiful ending. My criticism for this release is the use of the Ambient Soundscape was to limited. Which i think this brings out their full potential. We can hear it faded away in scientific despair and completly gone in fortified emptiness. This break the mood a bit for the EP. Nevertheless, Ranging from the slowcore style of Low, Japanese legendary Psychedelic Ambient band Ghost. Marche La Void able to keep it in one theme, placing their diversity piece by piece subtlely into each tracks. Depression, despair is the theme for the EP, but i have to say, Depression, despair is not such a bad thing. Sometimes if you look hard enough you can find a sense of beauty in it. And beauty is happiness." http://postrockerz.blogspot.com/
