Wait a second. You did R, like, a year ago. What happened to S!? Well, Tricia was looking forward to the T mix when we first started dating but I got lazy and stopped doing the mixes after R. So, I thought I'd do T as an Xmas gift. Emma got an E Is For Emma mix that came with a custom made booklet/coloring/activity book.

It's hard to believe that I used to make a zine out of yearend faves and I didn't even make a list of my favorite 10 albums last year (for the first time since 1990). Tricia has made great cd's of some of her favorite music for the last couple of years. That seemed easier than listing and ranking things so I thought I'd give that a try. I even went back and made a comp for last year too. If you're lucky, I'll have one in my car the next time I see you out and about. Enjoy.....or give me some money to buy what I should've been liking. Happy new year. Adam A FEW FAVES FROM 2006 1. Lloyd, I'm Ready to Be Heartbroken-Camera Obscura 2. LDN-Lily Allen 3. On The Other Side-The Strokes 4. Hey Emily-Emery Byrd 5. Darlin' I'm Tryin'-John Meeks 6. Carrie's Freckles-Matt Curreri & The Ex-Friends 7. One Night-Brothers And Sisters 8. I put way too much time into deciding what my fave Ride, Rugburns, RATM & REM songs are. I love 'em but none of their songs stick out as a definite fave. Poor me. I gave up on finding Roman Holiday's "Stand By", any of Ride's KROQ acoustic stuff or a live version of the Rentals' doing "Walk On The Wild Side" into "Friends of P" or my fave "So Soon" (but check the Youtube Casbah video of them playing it at their very first show ever, I must've been standing just to the left of the camerman). In lieu of posting pictures of the runners-up for people to name, I'm just going to do a monthly music trivia night instead. Why not come out on Thursday and check it out? More info at myspace.com/covermebadd. Even though I waited awhile to do this, you won't see one of these for a long time because I've probably got a few hundred S cd's. Yikessss.

Dear Sir and Madam,
I am so sorry that a giggling, smiling four year old and myself were blocking your view while you ate your dinner and drank wine in your boxed seat at the Hollywood Bowl last night. I thought that when my girlfriend bought me tickets for my birthday and we drove with her daughter from San Diego that the price included my right to stand and/or dance in said purchased space. It was also my understanding that LCD Soundsystem's music encourages movement, possibly even inspiring people to rise out of their chair. It was unfair of me to think that you might not be a huge LCD fan just because you looked like you were in your late 50's and would be content to simply watch two huge video screens which we weren't blocking. Had you been sitting directly behind me, I might've been more sympathetic but two rows of chairs and a walkway separated us, which is a direct insult to my waistline and dancing skills. I hope you didn't think less of us when I denied your request to stop dancing with references to the 1984 film Footloose. I thought that the band you paid to see would maybe want as many people to dance as possible but since you hissed at how incosiderate we were in between songs, you obviously felt that your right to relax at a rock show was more important. You had every right to get a security guard to ask us to sit down. I'm sorry that it didn't work. I hope you enjoyed the show anyways, especially when 17,000 people all stood up to block your view of the Arcade Fire.
Sincerely, Adam Gimbel

Last night, I joined Marie Haddad at Humphrey's Backstage Lounge to sing "Xanadu" in front of an audience filled with people who'd just come from seeing Hall & Oates. I thought it'd be funny to quiet the bar (who were talking loudly) and proclaim that John Oates is the real genius behind the band (with a ton of sarcasm and one four letter word). I've never been so wrong in my life. Sorry, Marie. Seriously. I actually just sent a letter of apology to the booking manager and you know I'm not much of one to regret things I say on the mic. As the crowd exited by me, people commented on how rude I was and one woman asked my first and last name. This morning, I was fired from my job via text message. Coincidence? I think not. I do, however, think I need a job.....and that John Oates' moustache rocks. Sorry again, Marie. I'm not kidding. I really did get fired via text message this morning. Anyone else wanna catch the 1pm showing of This Is England at Hillcrest Cinema with me & Molly?

Click for Tricia's photos Future goth with stuffed spider shunned for wearing bright colorsGood times. Got there just in time for the group foto. Fun running around with Sara, Marie, Pea, Kevin, Annemarie.... Tricia overheard an older firetruck driver explaining Bats Day to someone and said something about how everyone shows up in their "gothic uniforms". Emma one-upped her first visit by lasting *10* hours without getting cranky. She got to see Toontown and Fantasmic and Disney fireworks for the first time, digging everything. We passed on the Little Nemo ride. 150 minute wait and no Fastpass. Apparently she dug the rockets more than anything but I was off getting us ice cream (surprisingly it was the longest line we were in all day). She almost didn't get to go because she PROMISED she'd give up her bottle she insists on having when she goes to sleep. She was good for almost a week but demanded it the night before the big day. The next morning, we told her we weren't going. I called Mickey and he said we could still come if Emma gave up her bottle when we got to the park. Emma agreed and the nice lady at the front gate took the bottle and let her inside. The rest of the day, she kept saying "Mickey's really nice, huh?" and every night since we've been back, she says "My bottle's at Disneyland isn't it?" and goes to bed without it. Thanks, Mickey! Good times. We got season passes. Who wants to go around Halloween & Xmas?! A buncha pics on the Bats Day myspace group

Postal Service-Such Great Heights 21. Pulp-Common People
This one came out good! Lots of guilty pleasures. Did a lot of air guitaring to Power Station thanks to my sister. Kudos to Josh for sending me the live Placebo/Bowie mp3 when we first met. Do you know how hard it is to find the original Magnum PI theme? No, not some cheesy redone version. REAL strings that echo that majesty of Selleck's 'stache. Damnit! I spend 99 cents on the Eye In The Sky and don't get the intro!? Oh, it's a separate song called "Sirius" (used as entrance music by the Chicago Bulls and probably lots of other sports teams). Hey, I learned something. Alright, I sadly delete "N" by the AWESOME Philistines Jr to make room for a jock rock anthem. Sorry, boys.
"What are you going to do for Q?" is a question I've heard for awhile. Well, I have to figure it out in a day or two. It'll have Queens of the Stone Age, Queen, Quasi, ? & The Mysterians, Queen Latifah, Quiet Riot, The Quick, The Quarter After, Qu'est-ce Que C'est, Q Not U and, of course, the Quarrymen. Got any recommendations? Post a comment!
Ok, time to practice for May's music trivia night (ThuMay17). First one to post a comment naming all 5 runners up for the P cd pictured below gets a copy.

Epilogue: Went home last night and saw the Proclaimers' cd "Sunshine On Leith" misfiled...on my washer/dryer. Totally forgot to include a song from their first album (which thieves removed from my car). Just downloaded an mp3 and demoted Plastic Bertrand. Au Revoir, Frenchie. Gotta make room for the Scots.

Replacements "God Damn Job" and "Junior's Got a Gun"-1981Man, why wasn't I playing bass in some cool band when I was 14?! Who knows where I'd be today!?
I got out of the autobook publishing business today. There's been lots of hard work, lots of not-so-hard work and a lot of talking about cars even though I know nothing about them. The car book biz ain't what it used to be and there's always been folks ready to run Jalopy Joe Publishing better than I ever could. So, we sold it for 38 cents and change to our biggest distributor and are keeping gardenofspeedin.com up for awhile and filling orders. A good run but I'm ready for a change.
Running all aspets of a small business, getting free press in every publication from Lowrider to the Wall Street Journal, setting up a nationwide distribution system, selling 80,000 books and $140,000 worth of advertising all while listening to 2857 daily cd's alphabetically will teach you a thing or two. I'm probably suited for something in sales, advertising, music, writing, marketing, fundraising or general midlife-crisis rockstardom. I've also got 2 supersecret ideas for music related websites that I'm going to be writing proposals and looking for investors for very soon. If you know anyone that could use someone good at talking and getting the word out, I could be your guy.
Right now, I just need a nap. To celebrate, I asked Patrick to teach me how to take a screenshot so I could pull this supercool Townshend style pic of Petra Haden out of her flash website and put it on the ol' Myspace page. Enjoy.

So, Roger (Blasphemous Guitars) told me he was marrying Sara (San Diego Derby Dolls) at the Casbah and asked me if I would perform the ceremony. I told him that I'm not a real Rabbi but the city allows you to have a temporary license to be a Deputy Marriage Commissioner and perform weddings. How could I say no?! It was definitely one of the most fun, most memorable weddings any of us will ever attend. There have been wedding receptions at the Casbah but, this was only the second actual wedding ceremony performed there. Strangely enough, my neighbor across the street, Patty Cates, did the first one just late last year! Roger and Sara's vows were beautiful and I had to make a mockery by pretending to take a cellphone call from my mom right as I was about to introduce the newly married couple.
THE VOWS:
A: Dearly beloved We are gathered here today 2 get through this thing called life Electric word life It means forever and that's a mighty long time But I'm here 2 tell u There's something else Marriage. A world of never ending happiness U can always see the sun, day or night.
We come here today to the holiest of places. OUR house of worship where many of us here have stood and watched our heroes and where some of us have been blessed enough to grace this stage and have hundreds of devoted fans worship US (mostly Roger).
A great man once said "(the band) Redd Kross is my crucifix and the little red book of love is my bible." And when I wrote that I was talking about how rock & roll is a religion for so many of us. When Roger and Sara asked me to marry them at the Casbah, I immediately loved how appropriate and wonderful it was that they would choose to stage this huge life event somewhere that was important to THEM, not just where their family might want them to (though it sounds like a lot of their family is loving this). Music has always been a huge part of their lives, with Roger playing in countless bands and Sara being an avid local music supporter and virtual encyclopedia. Roger proposed to Sara at an Irish Pub called the Ould Sod, one of her absolute favorite places to see music and she couldn't have been happier that it happened there. To choose to let their wedding reflect that world is something few couples would have the guts to do, no matter how important it was to them. Maybe the afterparty but the ceremony!? Anyways, I was speechless, both literally and figuratively when they asked me and frankly, was totally clueless as to what I should say when I stood here to marry them.
After awhile, I decided I shouldn't be worried. A woman who does rollerderby and a man who has played in crazy rock & roll bands for years wouldn't choose to get married at the Casbah if they didn't want a fun wedding. I assumed the ceremony would be as silly as the idea of having a wedding at San Diego's favorite divebar. To practice, I decided to propose to my girlfriend onstage on New Year's Eve. Granted, getting down on one knee and asking someone to change their Myspace status to "In A Relationship" might not be as important to some as getting married but it was a big deal to me. I wrote my own silly vows to go along with it and Roger was gracious enough to return the favor and officiate the ceremony. When I asked him to "borrow" a bible from their hotelroom as a prop, he didn't hesitate. I figured I could be just as silly with their ceremony.
Then I saw the vows that Roger and Sara have written for each other. It reminded me of the night of my own proposal. We went to watch Lady Dottie & The Diamonds play before our own set in another part of the hotel. It was like the beginning of an elementary school party where everyone stands around, too afraid to start dancing….except for one couple. Totally unashamed and unafraid and totally in love, Roger and Sara danced without caring about anyone else, just the joy of being together. A few weeks ago a friend of ours found a picture online that someone had taken of them dancing that night. They're totally lost in each other and everyone else in the background seems very very far away. It's truly beautiful, much like the vows they wrote. These are things we should all aspire to in our own lives.
So, listen now as these two commit themselves to each other and imagine what an incredible world this would be if everyone could have someone in their life to care about the way that these two people do for each other.
S: We have already promised to love each other forever, and we are here now to reaffirm that promise in front of our assembled family and friends.
R: You are my dearest and closest friend, and today you become my family as well.
S: Marrying you connects our circles, becoming a whole.
R: I love everything that you are, all the interests and actions, ideas and experiences that have made you the person you are today.
S: Hearing your voice on the phone, seeing you return each day from work, getting a text that reads, "You are the most wonderful thing that has happened to me" or "Hang in there. The day won't last forever but my love for you will." Sends me into a spin.
R: I love your optimism, your honesty, your generosity, and your kindness. I love that everything is fun when we do it together.
S: Even when I'm alone, I'm not alone. I have you and your love in my pocket filling me with strength and hope.
R: When I am with you, all my troubles seem to melt away. You have changed my life, and I can't imagine my world without you.
S: You comfort me, thrill me, warm me, all with a single kiss. You are my friend, you are my lover, you are my life.
R: I will always be there for you, taking care of you while remembering that you can take care of yourself.
S: I will share every part of my life with you, knowing that everything is better when we share it.
R: I will shower you with surprises. I will take delight in your triumphs, ease the burden of your sorrows, give advice when you feel lost, and turn to you when I am in need.
S: The desert winds, the sounds of San Diego, solitude of the mountains, and our circles of friends brought us together. Nothing will tear us apart. My love for you grows like the giant trees of Sequoia, enduring and everlasting.
R: Together we will move confidently into the future, comfortable with the past and enjoying every second of the present.
S: I will always love you and take care of you.
R: I love you forever.
A: [Pause] Do you have the rings? [Retrieve rings] May the giving of these rings be one of the countless acts of generosity you will bestow upon each other. Each of you will give and will receive in turn love, kindness, understanding, and support today and throughout your lives together. By being yourselves and sharing of yourselves, you enrich each other's life in countless ways.
R: I give you this ring as a sign of my love. It will be close to you always, even when we are apart. Like my love, it is yours forever. When you wear it, the world can see that you are mine and I am yours.
S: I give you this ring as a sign of my love. It will be close to you always, even when we are apart. Like my love, it is yours forever. When you wear it, the world can see that you are mine and I am yours.
A: Do you Roger, take Sara, to be your wedded wife/husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do you part? (Note: I almost blew that part by forgetting to delete "wife/husband" from a template I found online. Luckily, the word "wife" was first. Phew!)
R: [Answer the "do you?"]
A: (thinking to self "Say husband say husband say HUSBAND!") Do you Sara, take Roger, to be your wedded wife/husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do you part?
S: [Answer the "do you?"]
A: Roger and Sara, you have given your consent and have declared your marriage in front of these assembled witnessed. By the power invested in me by the state of California for 24 hours, I now proclaim that you are husband and wife. May the world be as wonderful to you as you are to each other. You may now kiss the bride.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present to you for the first time… (ring ring)

Dinner beforehand. Somehow the "B" in BRIDE fell off at some point.
"Are you ready to rock & roll, Casbah?"

"Roger & Me". Book is an old high school planner/diary of mine with vows scotch taped inside.
"Oh nothing, just marrying my friends Roger and Sara. No, I can talk...."

Dancin' to Dottie. That's one big copyrighted smile. Love Sara looking right at the camera.
