for those of you who don't know, Owen Ashworth is the centerpeice behind an unreal recording and performing band, Casiotone for the Painfully Alone.  He's from chicago and a damn nice guy.
so nice in fact, that he gave us permission to record and distribute some of his songs to which we are at midterms with.  we're exploring new recording techniques and will have a range of songs that were recorded at Gravity Studios to one take analog sessions done in my basement.  we are loving the way they sound and lucky that we are able to do this.
the final product will be available for free and downloadable from sophomore lounge records. life is a babe....
check out some of Ashworth's music and get familar the the hum-buzz of his lo-fi brilliance. you will  want to sing along!

BABY NATION
the film is done and the trailer is up.
we will be premiering in a few places and it will be showing in a few film festivals within the end of the year. It was all shot in Wisconsin and has a wonderful look. here is our press release:

Animal City: baby nation

directed by NIC BERLIN
Cassato-Berlin production
With the bore of traditional music videos and the stale look of digital film, Animal City has created a new genre of film production called a VP (video play) with director nic berlin. Four songs, recorded on lo-fi analog, playing over nine minutes of 16mm and super8 film; both color and B&W, is a breathe of fresh air in the world of music videos. Berlin's cinematography takes the viewer through a rural arena and uses motion to capture attention and spellbind the viewer as the soundtrack narrates a moped ride, a cruise on a boat, and eventually a boozy party. With hand drawn screen titles and credits by mikie poland (castlemorbius.com), and the keen lens work of berlin, Animal City: baby nation is the first of several productions and will screen in various theaters, venues and parties throughout the year. You'll be sure to know about it when it comes near you. A DVD will be available through Sophomore Lounge Records soon that will also include an alternate cut and tour footage from over the past two years. Thanks a lot for all the help and showing interest.
be good.
and enjoy

"sophomore lounge and all these bands are from louisville, IOWA and chicago. It's run by Ryandavis who preforms solo under the name state champion and has been touring with animal city for a few months in and around chicago. After the release of 'werewolf ballads' by slithering beast later this year, sophomore lounge plans to copntinually put out new music including a split wiht Nashville's ribbonpigeon, making the country emphasis all the more stable. The most recent release the label has put out is the first of many many many compilations entitled SOPHOMORE LOUNGE: A FAMILY ALBUM. The comp is 16 tracks long and features the labels most prominant recordings and is available for free at state champion and animal city shows."

No grey is 100% DIY and 200% sneaky. there will be levels of greed in this project; there always is/will be. but nothing this sneaky has ever been released.

the stars at night

are big and bright

deep in the heart of austin.

we're staying with our friend jamie blaze and family, and theyre treating us like kings... jamie took us to her skate spot but her tag was gone, so were going to take it back later. so, tonight is our first of 5 shows in texas, and the first of 4 with our friend gracen accompanying us on keyboard/accordian.should be a blast.

the show in denver was cancelled, appearently we were never scheduled despite getting both email and phone confirmations. oh well. thanks to jamie bowler and company for letting us crash at their place in boulder, colorado while we were out there rehearsing.

new mexico was outstanding... 12 hour drive there to JUST make the set, and it was rad. huge thanks go out to to jon, christopher, ashley, etc. for putting us up, making us food, and getting rowdy with us. and big ups to The Zia, Animal City is most definitely reppin' NM for the year 'o7.

keep your eyes open for more updates, we'll check in when we can. we're having a blast and have videos, photos, audio-tape recordings, and stories to prove it. can't wait to get home.

be safe my darlings,

Animal City
