One for all the 'crate diggers' out there: sorry to disappoint, but it's time to step up your game - because quite frankly - this guy takes it to another level!!Here's the intro to an interview with a DJ called Frank Gossner, who one can only describe as 'dedicated to his art'. Enjoy - and the next time your mom has a go at you for all the records you buy, show her this and tell her she's lucky!
Digging For African Funk Records - Meet Frank Gossner
There is a special kind of excitement that comes with the unearthing of a rare record. This excitement is probably the reason why we can spend hours digging through crates at our local record shop or search the internet for hours looking for that special record. This is a dedication to vinyl records that most of us understand and share. However, there are few that can match the dedication Frank Gossner has to vinyl and music, and especially African music.Since the 90’s Frank Gossner had been a successful DJ, running popular parties both in New York, know as the Vampyros Lesbos’ party, and later the Soul Explosion party in Berlin, but his interest, fascination and curiosity for African Funk records were growing and growing. In 2005 he decided to give up his DJ gig and apartment in Berlin and move to Conakry, the capitol of Guinea, and spend the next three years on a quest to find the rarest records in Guinea and other West African countries like Benin, Nigeria, Ghana and Mali and get as close as possible to the heart and roots of it all.

Been getting good vibes back about my remix of Hear The Difference that I did for Doctor Stereo - Smoove even rung me up at 1 in the morning to tell me how much he loved it, and that he'd been ''Smashing Pasties with it every Saturday night!'' In his own words again he said he - ''Fucking loved it!''
Nice! But that's not all - check this review out... I'm pretty chuffed with it. Follow the link to see it in situ - or just read it here if you can't be arsed.

South American veteran Ezequiel Lodeiro, now acting as Jack to Phono’s Argentine funk exchange agent, gives up a gambolling, bongo jiving, Boca 4-high-5’ing groove in reading the JTP handbook from first page to last. Putting itself in the shop window for a mash-up of sorts, kooky organs supply the recommended daily allowance of kitsch, with nice filtered fill-ins as a chord change completing a quick blast of fun that requires little or less thought. Hear The Difference may set itself up as an anomaly, as the happy-go-lucky rolling knows the same playground games as other simple, 70s-spirited hand-clappers that have gone before it. Nothing to stop you growing you afro to accepted dimensions of sphericality by it mind you.
Hot from dropping the plump funk/hip-hop get-down Godfathers, Tombee’s in charge of the B-side, wrists a blur with a blazin’ drum solo opening. That is before it makes the track its own with impressive ass-kicking of the skins and cymbals. Organ stabs and a bassline slung super low ensure that where the Doctor was prescribing good-egg grins – something that Tom Eno’s mix swears by - here there’s no room for playtime: dance-offs are therefore a natural consequence. Making bodies twist that extra bit harder with a cosmic gloop poured on top in a thin but potent measure, Tombee turns the toe-taps into kick-flips and head-nods into head-bangs.

The Sick Girls aren't sick - they're actually very nice...
For those of you who have never heard of the Sick girls, they're a couple of feisty female DJ's from Germany. They first became aware of my music when they were getting ready for a show on a Radio station and the DJ who was on before them wa dropped my track Sticky Rhythm.
Anyway, look at this mail I got from them out of the blue... what a nice thing for Alex to do. Only problem is I have no idea what's been written, because being English I'm completely ignorant and don't speak any other languages. Although funnily enough, today I was just on the BBC website trying to learn myself a little Chinese...
Anyway here's the message from the Sick Girls - any help with a translation would be much appreciated - oh and go check their page out too.
MESSAGE: just dropped a short post about you on my magazin's blog: http://www.stylemag-online.net/2009/09/11/tombee-f olk-hop/xo alex/sg

Okay, this is just too funny. First off I have to tell you all something.
My flat mate - Dave - is barmy about climbing. Rock climbing that is. He goes whenever he has the chance. He goes to man-made walls, he goes to natural rock faces, he goes both here and abroad. He goes nearly everyday with all his climbing buddies, who think they're proper rock, and who come back talking all the lingo and about holds and clamps and kit and stuff, and about how they manged to do this and that and get up there in one move... so anyway - you get the idea.
So there's Dave, hands ripped to shreds, healthy diet, aches, sprains and pains, hundreds of pounds on equipment and books and then there's me. Slouched in front of the TV when he comes in, with a can of beer and packet of Doritos - LOL check this out - and I've only, very wierdly (and through no effort of my own I might add) ended up in the latest film, from what I gather, is one of the leading production companies that make climbing films (www.posingproductions.com). It follows some world famous climber (apparently) around the world and is going to be shown in cinemas too.
Needless to say Dave and all his climbing buddies are a little miffed, that after all their hard work conquering crevices I've stumbled into a project involving some of the best climbers in the world. It's sponsored by Berghaus and is called Project Asgard...
So what is the Asgard Project? Cue video and cut and paste skills (not in a musical sense).
THE ASGARD PROJECT: The Asgard Project is the big Posing Productions filming project for 2009, (presenting sponsor Berghaus ). The film is a world tour spectacular alongside top climber Leo Houlding with the end objective to make the first free ascent of the west face of Mt Asgard on Baffin Island. Like that's not an awesome enough feat in itself the journey there will be pretty special involving training trips to Riglos in Spain, Brento in Italy and Yosemite in California!
Each training trip will hone specific skills required for the Asgard expedition. Including, speed climbing, aide climbing and big walling.
Sounds pretty good huh? Regular updates can be followed on our Twitter Blog and a short teaser will be released after each training trip. Check out the first Riglos teaser at the movies.
The second training trip for the Asgard Project is compete, check out the report and pics in the Learning to Fly gallery. Brento teaser now playing at the movies.
The third training trip for the Asgard Project is compete, check out the report and pics in the Yosemite Sean gallery. Yosemite teaser now playing at themovies.
The exciting new project from Posing Productions in association with Berghaus and Nokia has its own website and is now live... check it out here - The Asgard Project.
ONE FINAL THOUGHT THAT HOPEFULLY MIGHT INSPIRE YOU IN SOMEWAY:
Dream sometimes come true even if you don't even try. So imagine what you can achieve if you really try. Let me explain...
Years ago I saw a trailer for a film that this company had made. I forget which one). It had a great soundtrack (I think it was Aphex Twin if I remember right, but I could be wrong as it was years ago, and an Aphex Twin track was used in another film recently called Shark Water - which you must see!). Anyway - I saw this trailer and was blown away. By what the climbers where doing. By the music. And also by how the too worked together so well. I remember thinking how amazing it must be to be someone like Aphex Twin and have your music put to something as inspiring and amazing as what these guys were doing... well, life is really, really, fucking odd - that's all I'm going to say on the matter....
Too fucking odd.

Hey there pop pickers! This just in, my latest single 'Godfathers' has just topped the Juno Records chart. That's right - how does the saying go? - ''straight in at number 1, it's Tombee, and Godfathers!'' Seems that ‘Godfathers’ is no 1in July's ‘Juno Recommends’ charts (see http://www.junodownload.com/charts/dj/629057-Juno_Recommends_Brokenbeat_Nu_jazz/215345-Chart/) Because of my number 1 smash hit, they've now asked me to submit an artist/DJ chart for either www.juno.co.uk or www.junodownload.com The ‘Juno Recommends’ charts (which did I mention I'm number 1 in?) are a new feature and are hand-picked by Juno from the strongest releases each month. These charts also get maximum publicity on the site to promote them. So if you get a second, go check out the Juno site, and maybe even buy my tune. Let's see if I can't break any chart records in a Brian Adams stylee, and keep it there a little longer, because everything I do, I do it for you.... Thanks for the support y'all!!!

This probably won't make much sense to you or be very funny if you haven't read my other blog about making it big in Japan (or rather not), but it seems that after being compared to a ''gypsy's fart'' and having my music called ''fanny fork pop music'', I've finally won over the Japanese market!
Using Googles crap 'translator' once again for more fun (thankfully the UN don't use this shitty piece of software, or there'd be wars breaking out left right and centre), I have discovered that my Japanese tour is now back on, and hopes of meeting and marrying a sexy Japanese chick while rocking the clubs out there, are looking very much alive!
Here's the review of my latest release, Japanese style!
ORIGINAL TEXT FROM JAPANESE RECORD SHOP:

Read these out loud to yourself - very good even if those on the other side
of the pond do not recognise half of the personalities and a fanny over there means something completely different to what it does to us Brits. Enjoy!
1. Ted Walsh - Horse Racing Commentator - 'This is really a lovely horse. I
once rode her mother.'
2. New Zealand Rugby Commentator - 'Andrew Mehrtens loves it when Daryl
Gibson comes inside him.'
3. Pat Glenn, weightlifting commentator - 'And this is Gregoriava from
Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning and it was amazing!'
4. Harry Carpenter at the Oxford-Cambridge boat race 1977 - 'Ah, isn't that
nice. The wife of the Cambridge President is kissing the Cox of the Oxford
crew.'
5. US PGA Commentator - 'One of the reasons Arnie (Arnold Palmer) is playing
so well is that, before each tee shot, his wife takes out his balls and
kisses them . Oh my god !! What have I just said??'
6. Carenza Lewis about finding food in the Middle Ages on 'Time Team Live'
said: 'You'd eat beaver if you could get it.'
7. A female news anchor who, the day after it was supposed to have snowed
and didn't, turned to the weatherman and asked, 'So Bob, where's that eight
inches you promised me last night?' Not only did HE have to leave the set,
but half the crew did too, because they were laughing so hard!
8. Steve Ryder covering the US Masters: 'Ballesteros felt much better today
after a 69 yesterday.'
9. Clair Frisby talking about a jumbo hot dog on 'Look North' said: 'There's
nothing like a big hot sausage inside you on a cold night like this. '
10 Mike Hallett discussing missed snooker shots on 'Sky Sports': 'Stephen
Hendry jumps on Steve Davis's misses every chance he gets.'
11. Michael Buerk on watching Philippa Forrester cuddle up to a male
astronomer for warmth during BBC1's UK eclipse coverage remarked: 'They seem
cold out there. They're rubbing each other and he's only come in his
shorts.'
12. Ken Brown commentating on golfer Nick Faldo and his caddie Fanny
Sunneson lining-up shots at the Scottish Open: 'Some weeks Nick likes to use
Fanny; other weeks he prefers to do it by himself.'

Wow - never in a million years would I have thought I'd find myself writing a blog to be filed under the ''sports'' category - but anyway...
It's odd - but I have noticed a trend that is rather worrying - a lot of people are dropping me messages asking about my injuries and wanting me to post pictures of the blood and gore.
It all started a week or so ago, when I posted a bullet-in or a status change or something, that mentioned the fact that I had a couple of stitches in my head. Expecting an influx of concerned inquiries I was rather miffed when all I got was requests to post pictures of the gash on my noggin!! Thanks for the concern guys and girls, no really - I'm fine LOL.
Anyway - only too happy to oblige, I posted a few up. Which were immediately taken down by the myspace police for being too gory. Anyway, they did leave a few up of the stitches and the scar so the peoples blood lust was satisfied... or so I thought.
Roll on another week or two and I have managed to mash up a couple of fingers on my hand during a Krav Maga seminar, this Sunday just gone. The session lasted 4 hours - 2 of which I spent in complete agony with a busted hand blocking all manner of rubber knives and bats hurtling towards by head. I'm happy to say I soldiered on and held out, even if my fingers didn't and grew to mammoth proportions and a strange shade of purple, yellow and brown - like some sort of macabre rainbow.
Anyway - again I mention my injury to a few people in passing, and again I get the call to see some pics of my mangled hand. So again, only too happy to oblige, I've posted one for all to see.
However - this got me thinking...
It seems there's a market for this sort of thing. People obviously enjoy seeing me in a state of pain or injury, so I've decided to start a folder of pictures dedicated to the various injuries I seem to pick up on a regular basis. I'll be adding to it weekly I suspect, so you can all enjoy my new injuries and bruises as and when they occur... I do seem to get a lot (more than your average guy at any rate), so I won't bother posting all the little cuts and scrapes that happen to me - just the more spectacular ones for everyone to enjoy at their leisure.
The people are calling for blood and I'm gonna give it to them. My pain is your gain.

Okay - this is just a little something that made me laugh so I thought I'd share it with you.I was buying records online at a Japanese store called Jet set records www.jetsetrecords.ne and I came across this. Basically, they stocked a few of my records and when I hit the translate button to see what the land of sexy geisha thought of my tunes, and if I should be planning a trip out there to live out the rest of my life as a super star, I was sadly disappointed. Hopefully, it's just Googles crap translator and they don't really think my music is Fannie Fork Pop Poop, but who knows. In fact maybe that's how I should start describing it. Incidentally I have no Idea who Yoshi Yutaka is, but I think that they're talking about the guy who runs my label, Jack!

LMFAO!! OK! Suitably amused I decided to check up on my other releases and things didn't get any better. Here's what they had to say about one of my other releases, 'Amelie in Dub'. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this time I'm compared to the smell of a gypsy's fart... and not just any old gypo, but a sad gypo. Well it seems my dreams of moving to Japan have been thwarted but at least in both cases the seem to like the remixes: Most high!
