a small group of polaroids from my polaroid project that found themselves scanned and online. at one point i was in the middle of having all 100+ polaroids of friends and strangers online but a crashed cpu ruined all that. suppose one day i'll get around to it again.

i wanted to share with everyone something i wrote to a friend regarding a news story about a bald eagle carrying a deer head in alaska. somehow this bald eagle got exhausted during his flight and crashed into powerlines, causing power outages in juneau.
anyway, here:ok... i am sorry but i must put everything else on hold while this eagle/deer head incident hovers over our heads unsolved. i feel it is trying to relay a message to us. something beyond normals means of communication. to tackle this task, i composed a series of graphs in metaphysical form. following along the lines of traditonal alchemical symbology, i believe i have brought us one step closer to the light(i've been studying too much about this stuff so i have to get it out of my head some how). ok, now to begin with, i assigned all symbolic objects in this conflict with one of the four elements. fire, earth, air, water. and also they are arranged as to what they mean according to developing a psychological understanding of the incident. the eagle is air and conciousness, the deer is earth and unconciousness, the electrical pole is fire and the unification of the two others. where is the last element? i'll get to that in a bit. so the eagle wishes to make himself concious of all his dark thought dwelling in his unconcious mind so he brings the deer head to the electrical pole. well then if you arrange these three existing elements together you get a triangle. now you can also relate this triangle to the holy trinity in the bible. but where is the balance in this? the electrical pole needs an opposite like the eagle has an opposite(which is why modern christianity by itself is flawed). so the eagle fails and burns up in a ball of fire. so then you you have to add a new object to the mix. you add the last element, water(the philosophers stone, the magical element that brings about transformation), to put the eagles burning wings out. so there... now the eagle has succeded in unifiying himself with the deer head and becomes the prima materia, the answer of all questions. so there... i think i solved it? im not sure. my head hurts...

ralph steadman was at books & books in the gables on friday having a slide show to promote his new book the joke's over. he mumbled most of the time. occasionaly broke out in song. i got him to sign one of his books "to elk master, ralph steadman". one fellow presented to ralph his tattoo of the words "fear and loathing" writen on his arm and a copy of one of his illustrations tattooed on his leg. ralph questioned if he then wanted him to sign his cock.

for a while i've had this strange fixation on the 1920's and 30's jazz movement. i suppose a large part of my interest stems from the curiosity of rediscovering a culture that existed at the dawn of modern society and noting its relation to current trends and movements. its amazing how we like to think life changes but in reality, deep down at its core, its always the same. anyway, i've been building up a collection of music from that era. i figured it's about time i shared some of it with everyone. trav's jazz age mp3 mix: the temperance seven - saharabob haggart, ray bauduc - the big noise from the winnetkaduke ellington and his orch. - caravanclinton ford - fanlight fannyal bowlby - bei mir bist du schoenbubber miley and his mileage makers - black mariapaul whiteman - charlestonclyde doerr and his orch. - suez

i'll get around to posting the audio recordings from algonquin soon but for now i just want to share an old favorite: why our plane didn't take off.mp3this is a short recording of the pilot to my NY flight trying to explain, in technical terms, why we had such a long delay to takeoff. drunken comments by ashley.
