Current mood:  thankful

"If you love nu Jazz as much as I do then this is one hell of a compilation. This compilation really cuts the mustard, lifting numerous modern jazz cuts from Europe and the US and bundles them all together for our pure listening enjoyment. In both soul and jazz music the Europeans are washing the floor with their US counterparts and how better to exemplify this than with the BRILLIANT opening cut by the Bahama Soul Club featuring the wonderful Pat Appleton on vocals? "Late Night Bossa" is a fantastic outing in a Schema / Far Out kind of style with vocals akin to Koop's featured Japanese vocalist Yukimi Nagano. Worth the price of admittance alone, I would say. This is not the case though as there is so much more to sink out jazzy teeth into! Musically the WK Collective's "All The Time" is right on the money - the rap leaves me a bit cold but the soulful, funky edge is so so tasty. One of my fave US jazz singers right now is Brenda Boykin her endearing, deep and sonorous style is perfectly pitched on the KILLER "Far Far Away" by Tape Five. This is real jazz - let's sweep aside this boring lift music called smooth jazz and get back to the real stuff. And here it jolly well is!
Italy's Brother Groove add a straight jazz feel with plenty of double bass and sax, and if you adore the lively and hip coolness of Nicola Conté and the High Five Quintet then you will so easily find a place in your heart for this. Check out the sax! Wynton Marsalis eat your heart out!!! A familiar name to you from these pages will be Glam Sam and his Combo - the excellent bouncing gait of "The Concept Of Being Hip" should get you moving in the right direction - straight ahead! What seriously gets me moving is Una Mas Trio featuring Malaika. This is a hard Bossa groove with strong Latin and Afro Cuban elements. AND...you may recall Malaika from her 1993 album "Sugar Time" on A+M records! The Lady sounds glorious on here and well suited to such an exotic groove. The Italo-Jazz sound of Now hits with a real vengeance on "Turtleneck" by Afternoons In Stereo. My goodness, this is what jazz is to me! Oh this song is pure heaven. plenty of fresh, vibrant instruments and a rollicking good Latin rhythm to boot! In fact, there is little or nothing on here that fails to impress me. If you love this new - yet excitingly familiar - jazzy Bossa bop straight ahead and then some (!) scene then look no further than this compilation courtesy of Djane Lady Smiles from good old Vienna
ESSENTIAL."

B.Towler, Soulchoonz

“…Lady Smiles starts her Lounge Compilation mix with the Bahama Soul Club, who unites relaxed guitars, Soul vocals and Latin drums. After this kick-off it's turning  into a more upbeat course with Broken Beats and Raps-like vocals. Riccicomoto truly remain this way with strong beat orientation. Listen to Alacran makes me thinking in Gotan Project and Tape Five swings with cool Jazz instrumentation. Brother Groove stays jazzy with piano and winds. Generally it's the central  theme to follow trough  this pleasant, finger snipping album. Nu-Jazz from Una Mas Trio and gorgeous Afternoons In Stereo cares once more for  different aspects  among Grand Slam and the charismatic Barfly by Lop.Nor. Conclusion: A swell compiling, which purposely renounces in great names and shows, that also less familiar artists plays in the first league. In rotation at my home.

C.Becker, Raveline

“Right now,  thinking that any  fresh air in the cultivated Lounge genre is gone, super Djane S.O.S. (aka Lady Smiles) compiled a CD which got what it takes. Irresistible,  elegant, jazzy –  a perfect mix from rediscoveries and news. All we need for the next party. Cool”

A. Russ, Freizeit Kurier

“If there is once a good Compilation, it's this one. Right the opener from the Bahama Soul Club with the wonderful voice of Pat Appleton puts this in an inevitable light. Changes in tempo from down to up with well regularity indeed, but the musical claim and the comprehensive song groove remains as solid as a rock. …Lady Smiles has well  succeeded to create a constant mood, which kidnaps the listeners in little slices into an own world. In the end this is the task of a DJ – pardon DJane.  Along with it there is a very precious visual identity, infos to each song as short liner notes to every title. Brilliant!”

Lex, Soultrain

"Responsible for the compiling is the Viennese Bar music expert DJane Lady Smiles and I have to say that she really has succeeded with this magnificent mix out of Bossa, Funk, Nu-Jazz, Headz & Grooves. With the 14 Bubbles in your ears you do look forward to the next relaxing evening in awesome atmosphere at a Bar-Lounge”

Rico, FleschMagazine

"All styles of Jazz share one component, the natural Swing which refuses to be measured in onces and zeros. Viennese based DJane Lady Smiles has a particular talent for recognising that Swing in some of the most unlikeley places. Her first Compilation Bar Bubbles takes fourteen artists with very different yet complementary interpretations of neo-jazz, with some authentic retro grooves thrown in. ...this is undoubtedly the Compilation to accompany champagne and good company"

Brian, The Magazine /Canary Island

"Bar Compilations are such a thing: at most near the border to be music for elivetors, but because of  muffled beats in the background, they mostly making more nervous.Far more to appreciate is the effort from scene- and music connoisseur Lady Smiles aka Susanne Ochoa Sanchez, who compiled a smart collection of fine grooves on Bar Bubbles ...Chapeau!"

E.Rudas, Nightline

"Bar Bubbles? Whats that? Hang on! The end of boredom in a Bar, with lifted soulpieces, triphop enriched, music to perk up. ...exclusive music for discerning people"

M. Horak, Planet Musik

“Bar Bubbles is an outstanding compiled easy listening Jazzlounge CD, which unites Downbeat, Bossanova and Nu-Jazz in excellent wise. Never pushy, but rhythmical and groovy to keep away from getting stodgy, competent compiled by Lady Smiles...Highly reccommended”

N. Springer, DJ & Saturn/Augsburg

“…in the Viennese expert for Bar music DJ Lady Smiles, Holophon seem to have found someone with higher claim than the current Grand of compiler has… Bar Bubbles is anything but spectacular, but more than enjoyable and not as boring as the most of its conspecifics”

P. Hagen, 1Beat

“…Lady Smiles is mixing finest Grooves, Swing, Bossa and Tango beyond the mainstream. In contrast to other Lounge CDs, many new and unreleased tunes are to listen on Bar Bubbles”

M. Kohlweis, Kärtner Tageszeitung

“DJane Lady Smiles is demonstrating us, that Bubbles in no wise are fading objects. With her selected 14 Bar Bubbles you can slide buoyant and smooth trough the nights. This Compilation convince with many new and so far unreleased songs by well known and also less familiar artists”

K. Benda, Lounge.FM (Album recommend of the week)

„Djane Lady Smiles has compiled a truly seductive Cocktail with new & partly unreleased songs beyond the mainstream…Absolutely recommended”

P. Ortner, Mostviertel Magazin

“…Bar Bubbles is based in the genres Nu-Jazz, Groove, Urban Music or Chill Out. Selected and compiled by prestigious, adorable Lady Smile. Résumé: a very interesting variety of magistral topics”

J. Garcia Escamez, No Solo Smooth Jazz

“…Result: in cooperation with the Label Holophon, Lady Smiles presents us a premium cocktail mixed from lively, grooving tunes for musical gourmets”

Bea, Housefloor

New Compilation „BAR BUBBLES“ - compiled by Lady Smiles
release date world wide: 01.10.2009
available as CD and Digital Release
released by
Holophon Records

“Bar Bubbles” is named the latest release of the label Holophon, compiled by DJane Lady Smiles. At last the Viennese bar music expert serves her interpretation of a seductive cocktail made of finest grooves and rare tunes beyond the mainstream. In contradiction to countless lounge releases within the last years Bar Bubbles is “…finally a compilation with lots of new, as well as until today mostly unreleased essences”, Lady Smiles comments.

“Regarding the track list we looked for new songs by well known and also less familiar artists as we tried to produce an international flair, using ingredients from all over the world by mixing Bossa, Funk, Nu Jazz, Headz and Grooves”.

A look into the “menu” affirms the Lady:

Slade goes Swing – the finest element of this Premium Cocktail is the swinging version of Slade's 70s-hymn “Far Far Away”, a Tape Five production interpreted by the Californian top-vocalist Brenda Boykin.

Neither non-released until today was also the outro track “Bar Fly” by Lop.Nor, nor was the prime release of Monitor’s “PS” in a Papercut remix just as WKCollective, Riccicomoto and Pierce Vaughan. Furthermore first time on physical sound carrier a “dash of remix” – such as “Checkmate” in the price winning Mesa Verde resign mix. But also a splendid shot of Bossa and Tango donated by Brother Groove, Una Mas Trio, Glam Sam & His Combo, Alacran, Afternoons In Stereo and Spacestar cares for the varied sound flow.

This perfect mix is decorated with a pinch of “airy sound” from The Bahama Soul Club, who asks right at the start the entitled question: “why don't you come down and join us”?

And not only for a trip into your favourite bar to enjoy a “Sunny Hipster” – Cocktail, which was specially created for the displayed compilation, but also to glide through the night “smoothly”, delighted by fourteen sparkling Bar Bubbles!

Pre-listen the 28 min. mix down of the BAR BUBBLES compilation on my player & enjoy!

....and finally: if you like it, buy it, when it will be released
on the 1st of Oct. 2009 !!! :)

Current mood:  thankful

For the reader, who aspect to find my top tracklist 2008 here, *nop*, you want, because 1st: there are far too many and 2nd: just listen to my mixes on the player and you know it anyway!  …but in short words: it was more than ever, that the jazzy influenced bar/lounge music with a tasty latin flavour taked more and more place in my musical world = the tunes, not me, seem to make my destiny… ;-)

Big thanks to all the artists for keeping their works on such a high, enjoyable level as many thanks to my German label partner for trusting my musical taste and keep working together  on some new projects in 2009!

I gladly could play a lot of wonderful bar sets during the last year for so many lovely, open minded listeners and the exchanging of good vibes definitely was the biggest force to undeterred keep on going my way - a way with some real great personal highlights, i thankfully like to say!

One of them for sure was to be live studio guest from Dok Best at Radio Z Nürnberg in November, simple a big pleasure, an exciting experience and indeed great fun, not to forget the DJ'ing at the "Rote Bar" afterwards, the place packed with so many unbelievable nice groovy people, simple unforgettable moments!

Just as the 4th of October, when an ordinary, beloved DJ set at H12 Bar turned into a magical, incredible flow - no words can describe the unique XXX-vibes that night…which ended up far too soon, but the special beauty of it will always remain the same…

After a turbulent change of my business life in springtime and kind of freaky summer days, my unusual year ended up in finally establishing my own company in December - Smiles Recordings (Sound Consulting Agency with connected Label & Publisher) – so no more need to talk about my general preference in 2009, right? ;-)

And right here, deep thanks to my honest, closest friends for their strong mind support and so pushing me forward into this new life adventure! I'll sure try my best to meet challenges and of course: always with the same strong love for music, just as the whole thing started…

Last but not least, thanks to the best of my.space friends for being intensive connected, for your motivating feedbacks, smiling notes, bright sunbeams as for the promo conveyance….sooner or later the karma always speaks a clear language!

With honest best wishes for a great swinging, happy & healthy

NEW YEAR to ALL of YOU,

Sue aka Lady Smiles
