These things can't be rushed!

Were on our way and things are beginning to gather momentum,

To give you something to have a look at we had a video filmed by mainly podge... of the redfest experience this year,

was a wicked weekend and i think this video sums that up pretty nicely,

Hope your all well, thanks for the continued support.

Its with great sadness i inform you all that Tom has decided to call it a day with the band,
We enjoyed working and jamming with tom very much over the last few years and wish him all the best with his future endeavours, of which im sure there will be many.

This does of course mean we will be searching (very fucking quickly) for a bass player to fill in ASAP.
Due to the fact we have the headline slot on the local band stage at Redfest next month we need someone who we get on with, can learn the entire set and do backing vocals by July...
So...

If you think you might be the person were looking for then just get in touch,

More stuff is on its way folks, we've hit a slight glitch but soon enough everythings gunna be bigger and more insane than ever,
and thats a promise.

best,

Jako & Rudi.

Thanks to Iggy from The Vril (.com) for giving us this review!

Our Thoughts

They wanted it, here it is! Our little thoughts
on the brand new two tracks by The Rylics! Their are a 3 piece from
Brighton and needless to say they would not be here unless we loved it!
And love it we do!

Loose yourself in the music and stop reading!
Let your eyes and mind drift and you can imagine them playing live
right infront of you, the rawness (if thats a word!) of the music drags
you under the surface of what looks on the outside a band lost between
the masses, but as soon as the first note is played you can see why i
couldn't wait to add them to the family!LOVE IT, and as i sit here
listening, my foot tapping, my head nodding and inside i am screaming
'YES, YES, I WANT MORE!' and i think that is what we are all waiting
for!

Jako answer a few questions,

Meet The Rylics, New band from Brighton, they are set to make a huge inpact on music with there Alternative rock sound. The Rylics have a unique sound which is a 100% them coming from they write all there own songs. The Rylics can be heard at there official myspace page: www.myspace.com/therylics.

Who are The Rylics for any one who many not be familar with you guys yet?
Were a three peice alternative rock band from Brighton,
we consist of three best chums aged 14 and 16.
Our drummer Rudi is 14, and me and Tom are 16, (me being jako).
We have been going since July 04 and set out to bring across a lively energetic live show and thats what its all about for us, playing live and showing what we can do.

Describe your musical sound?
We have so many different influences in our sound, some stuff can be compared to the likes of Editors and others like The Vines or We Are Scientists,
Essentially its in your face rock music, catchy melodies and driven rock guitars is what its all about.

What Gigs do you have lined up?
At the moment were in the process of getting together more new songs for our live set, we have one show booked in Brighton this month at a venue called Kulture,
its one of the few we havent played before and are very much looking forward to it.
There is also a possibility were playing at the concorde2 on the night of halloween which if all goes ahead will be a fantastic night.
We've had the privildge of playing that stage four times and its a magnificent venue with the best atmosphere of any venue in the city.

Do you have an album ready to be released?
It's far too early days to start thinking about an album for us,
at the moment we are writing a lot of material a lot of the time, as soon as we get one new song weve made another which is much better. Sooo...i think we would have to really establish what our strongest songs are and then start looking into it.
Of course if we had a record label paying for the studio time it would make the whole scenario a lot easier as well !

Do you write all your own material?
yeah, everything we write is 100% Rylics.

Do you all write together or is one of you the main songwriter?
Well it works in different ways. I usually write the songs as a whole peice and then take it to the guys, and we remake it and shift it about and fuck it up a bit.
Its a process that works well and we all have massive input into the songs.
I always write the lyrics however, thats something that i always enjoy doing. Can really scoop out your brain and plop it onto a peice of paper with that one.

Where do you find inspiration for each song you write?
Hmm.
Inspiration comes from many different places. Obviously i gain influence from bands and songs but its mainly stories or emotions that are going on with me at the current time.
As i said before, usually a case of offloading a bit brain juice and just expressing myself. Usual songwriting shenanigans i guess. Its an outlet for your emotions i guess.

You've got your own tshirt range, do you do the design for
them?
Are you bringing out any more merchandise?

We do indeed have some t-shirts, we mainly made them just to see if people were interested in buying them. and they were...which was fantastic.
We will eventually bring out more merchandise but its not really our key focus at the moment, in the new year when we start a fresh and get everything really going? then we'll start getting some more stuff in,
we have badges and demos and t-shirts, that'll do for the time being.

Are your T.shirts only available through your myspace or do you have an official website to?

We dont have an official website, these days which unsigned bands do?
Myspace is such a fantastic tool for bands to use and it makes sence just to go through that.

Which gig has been your favourite to preform at so far?
Hmm...
well we've had the privilidge to play with some great bands. Both local acts and national acts, bands such as Talula (who recently came off tour with muse), floors and walls, templeton pek, Thoughts Collide, Etc and they have all been pretty fun.
We had a show recently at the freebutt in Brighton and a load of our mates came down and really packed the place out which was fantastic, thats probably my most recent fun gig...

Do you have any gigs coming up that you are exited about?
The concorde2 show if all goes ahead...

What band's are you all listening to at the moment?
at the moment im listening to an underground band called Yourcodenameis:milo, unfortunately they split up last year which is such a shame as ive only just discovered them.
There a bunch of geordies and are an absolutely outstanding band, so inspiring to listen to. There probably my favourite band at the moment.
Tom is listening to a lot of Nouvelle Vague and Beck at the moment, and Rudi listens to fucking everrrything, at the moment he is into a fair bit of Biffy Clyro and Muse, not to mention a gazillion electronic bands who i havent even heard of.

What set's you apart from other bands?
Erm, i think the fact the genre of music we play isnt being played by many other bands our age, it seems to be a lot of quite dull generic pop indie rock and i find that all rather bland, If its done well its good and some bands are brilliant at that sound but personally i just switch right off it,
i think were quite hard to put into a genre as although were based around rock we have quite an eclectic sound,
so.
maybe that.

Are you currently signed to an record label?
were not no. These days thats not always the most neccessary thing anyway, if it did come up then we would certainly listen to offers of course.

Do you have a single scheduled in for release?
We want to whack some stuff on itunes at some point but as a band we dont really think weve found "our" song yet.
A lot of people have requested "paranoid distortion" to be released and it was seriously considered by me and the boys, but at the moment i think we need to make that killer EP and then take it from there.

Will your tracks from myspace been availble on your album release?
Too early to say, i have a small feeling a few of them might get on there... we will have to wait and see if anyone fancies paying for us to make it and how long into the future that will be !

Do you have any messages for your fans?
Hello !
Please keep visiting our page and saying hello, me and the boys check the page every day and its so amazing to hear some of the comments, we make this music for fun and we would love to do it for a living but its still crazy when people have our songs on there myspace and use our banner on there page for promotion, so please keep spreading the word and hopefully we'll catch you at a show some day!

Review:
The Rylics - Demos Review

Going into reviewing The Rylics, a band I knew nothing about, I was excited. Their music was enjoyable and easy to listen to, albeit comparable to many other bands of their kind. Although there was something missing I couldn't quite put my finger on, I have to give credit where credits due for the obvious potential they have displayed.

Paranoid Distortion

Close your eyes for a moment during this song and it's hard not to imagine The Rylics on stage. Their music has an energy that speaks of gigs to come and dancing to this tune on a good night out. Perhaps the best example of this is the intro and its clever use of drums and guitar. You'll find yourself humming the tune it's just that damn catchy. What's more pleasing is the clarity of single notes and words throughout the song that, to me, is a beautiful finishing touch to an already pretty picture.

If I have to be picky here, and I do, it's arguable the sound levels need tweaking to really sum up the songs punch. By this I mean the sound levels of each recorded instrument just don't seem to add up. This benefits the 'break' two minutes into the song where it takes on a much softer pace. The singer's voice, seeming slightly stretched until this point, sounds more like it's in a comfort zone. That raw edge grew on me very quickly, though, and I kind of liked it. Faults aside there's a rightness about the song that's hard to explain and a freshness to it which is almost electric. Lyrically, Paranoid Distortion is littered with hidden gems too, making it well worth checking out.

Screaming Free

Sadly loses out to Paranoid Distortion for top place. While it still has the energy and raw edge previously mentioned, there's just something missing. If Paranoid Distortion is gig material then Screaming Free is more, well, background music. That's not to say it isn't catchy. If you liked Paranoid Distortion you'll enjoy this and will want to sing along. In parts there's a simplicity to it which makes it unique from Paranoid Distortion's complexity. The singer's voice has definitely grown on me here too and, although still raw and edgy, seems more at home in this song.

One thing The Rylics definitely know how to deliver is a good intro. I'm a big fan of a gritty, loud, fast paced intro to get you in the mood for the song and The Rylics make it seem easy. Lyrically I'd argue Screaming Free excels Paranoid Distortion. Simpler, yet still full of punch, Screaming Free could easily become one of those songs you get into your head and end up singing randomly throughout the day. Sadly this is brought down, yet again, by each instruments sound levels needing alterations. All in all The Rylics have talent, and their songs so far are promising for the future.

OVERALL RATING : 8 / 10
