Just got back from a great day in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was "Westfest" (40th anniversary celebration of Woodstock). Tons of people were there. Great music all day long. I got to take part in a Guinness attempt for most guitars playing Purple Haze at one time (3,000). We were linked up with 1,000 in England too. It was great! I met a lot of fun people (I hung out with a couple that came from Ohio for a mini vacation to join all of us in a great day of musical fun). There were vendors (tie-died stuff evrywhere), musicians, side stages, acts galore...and of course, a naked guy (long story...or should I say short story).

I left home at 5:30 am (that 4:35 alarm was early) and got to SF a little after 6:30 am. Still dark but plenty of parking available at that time. Iwas about 100 yards from the event. I registered and picked my spot on the wet morninbg grass along with hundreds of others. This was at 7 am. The gig started at 9:30 am with some native American Indians giving us their blessing. We all did Purple Haze at 10 am and I think we got the record. Members of the Byrds played, Moby Grape, It's A Beautiful Day, Starship...and more! I left early as I wa pooped and wanted to miss the traffice heading home. I did miss the final act of the roiginal cast from Hair doing their thing (actually left early 'cause I didn't want to see them naked... what are they now, 60...70+ years old... and I had already seen the naked guy).  Anyway, GREAT DAY!

Thanks to all my buddy bands last night that kept me on the straight and narrow in Vacaville (Natasha James, Time Bandits & Gray Daze). You all inspire me and because of that I got my butt out of bed this morning to rock on!

Have a great week out there!

Current mood:  happy
As our lovely summer winds down here in Vacaville, I finally get to catch my breath. This year (again) we will have over 150 performances in our little downtown. And what an adventure it's been! A big thank you goes out to Suzy Bogguss, Gretchen Peters, the Sun Kings, Gray Daze and all the other bands that made our "Art, Wine & Brew Festival" a big success. Our "Oktoberfest" finished up last weekend and it was a wonderful success too. Many bands and artists performed here this year and THANKS to all of you too. The Bodie Travelers, Kit & Tanya, Amber Rubarth, Tamra Engle, amy Meyers, Jeni Day, Throwing Roses, Kim Rea, Loren Davidson, Jennings & Keller, Tony Bataska, Amber Snyder, RB&C, the Acoustic Couch Boys, Casualties of Friendship and so many more!!! You make my job a very fun one all of you.

And then there's 2010 on the horizon... but first my nap. Have a great October one and all...!

Too early in the day for a gig...or is it? So last night the downtown concert series gig went well. I hung around at the end to make sure things were closing up ok, then off to my new favortie Irish Pub in my favorite Mexican restaurant...really! A long "blog" short, one of the owners is part Irish and we must be related so they started stocking Tulamore Dew 12 year old Irish whiskey...LOVELY stuff...and I'm doomed! But anyway, I did make it home but got up early to get this morning's farmers' market open and the performing artists up and running. and thus here comes the question...too early in the day for a gig? Must have been for them as they were a no show so...it wasn't too early in the day for me to gig! Love the tips and local produce. Perfect weather, saw lots of friends and enjoyed my morning. It's almost noon now...so maybe some couch time is called for on this old crooner. Gotta rest up for tonight and tomorrow's gig in Town Square. wish all my musical friends could join in the fun tomorrow, Monday and Wednesday. Never to early to gig is my summation.

Current mood:  adventurous
Yes it's that time of year again when I get things kicked into musical gear. We just finished our 1st festival of the year and tonight is the 1st Friday in Town Square. Followed by more entertainment there tomorrow (the Ballet) and Sun. (Blues Society) and then the Wednesday lunch time fun kicks in, as well as the Farmers' market gigs and so on, and so on...Run Forest, Run! (that's my motto for May).

A big THANK YOU to Amber Rubarth who stopped by Vacaville last Sunday to perform for us on her whirlwind tour. Always have room for Amber to play here! Other folks coming our way include Suzy Boggus, Sun Kings (Beatles Tribute), Tamra Engle, Jennings & Keller, Kit & Tanya, Tony Bataska, Kevin Beadles, Kyle Williams, Amy Meyers, Grace Woods, Bodie Travelers, Mary Redente, Loren Davidson, and many, many more. I'll catch my breath around Halloween I think.

The RB&C Band and the Acoustic Couch Boys will be doing their thing (5/6 in Town Square) plus Cheers on 5/22 & 5/23. Other "stuff" is in the works too. On Monday nights it's "Beau's Blues Jam" at Winestyles (off of Town Square). It's a lot of fun so stop by if ya can.

Have a fun weekend out there and keep the music playin! Love to all.

Hello to one and all. I just returned from 10 wonderful days in Ireland visiting family and friends. The road trip began in Dublin, went a tad north then over to Ballina and other towns along the way. Then southward to Galway, Limmerick, Cork, Killkenny and then back to Dublin. So much fun, so many great musicians along the way and maybe too many pints. But upon my return one of my Irish cousins came over and I got to extend my wild ride. All over San Francisco this past weekend and fun was had by all. Beach Blanket Babylon was a blast too. So now that I'm not rested I've got our Medieval Fantasy Festival happening next weekend and then the musical mayhem continues in Downtown Vacaville. "Gray Daze" on Friday 5/1, the Vacaville Ballet on 5/2, Wednesday Lunch Time Fun, Friday Nights in Town Square, Wine Stroll on 5/16, Farmers' Market begins on 5/16, Fiesta Days and Creekwalk Concerts all rock my May. Plue RB&C is at Cheers on 5/22 & 5/23! So wish me well and jump in where and when ya can. There are so many talented musician out there helping brighten my day (and making my life easy plugging in folks for our events)!
Have a great week!!

Current mood:  rejuvenated
So for the past 2 months or so a gaggle of us have been gathering at Wine Styles in Downtown Vacaville on Monday night for a Blues Jam. It started out as a couple of guys playin' some old time blues and it has grown to about 8 to 10 regulars showing up. And wow! What a ride it is. The program runs from about 6:30 to 10 pm with food and adult beverages. The guys are only playing the old time blues (for the most part) and it's fantastic to sit in the middle of all their musicianship..wow, I'm way impressed! So if you get the chance stop by...almost every Monday. And if you can't take a few minutes to listen to some of the old blues music out there...great roots and just fantastic to listen to...and to play along with it.

What a ride! I've again been very blessed to have so many great musician friends and they are continuing to humor me along my many road trip adventures.  I recently had the opportunity to see and visit with Amber Rubarth while she was passing through No. CA. and I got to butcher one of my new songs for her (great tips and guidance on my song writing though). The Throwing Roses gang (Shelley & Joe) make my day every now and then by letting me sit in with them (when it's safe to let me bang out a chord or two) and then there's my newly found cousins Mark & Stace (Bodie Travelers)...what can I say, thery're family (love 'em). Kit & Tanya, Tony Bataska, Tamra Engle, Heather Combs, Cindy Alexander, Gretchen Peters and the list goes on and on. Thanks you one and all. Good friends, good times and good music along the No. CA trail. You all keep me smiling!

Merry Christmas eveyone! Looks like I survived another holiday season. I had the great pleasure of visitning my family in St. Louis last weekend and I really enjoyed seeing everyone onece again. The old timers are thinning out and the cousins are getting gray (not me!) and fun was had by all. It was cold as... well not hell, as it was zerpo degrees with a wind chill on top of that..BRRRR! This old CA boy forgot how much fun that can be. So I'm gald to be back in No. CA for Christmas with a nice 50 degree rainy day. I hope you all can enjoy family and friends this week.

Happy Holidays and...

It's a Monday once again and the good news is that I've survived another weekend. And the bad news, so to speak, is that tomorrow is Tuesday and the start of the weekend...again. What have I unleashed upon the world with this!?!?! The past 2 weekends included the 6 day Art, Wine & Brew Festival and the Oktoberfest. Fun was had by all...and a big THANK YOU to all my friends who jumped in to help with the events. Could not have done it without you!!! And musically speakking I keep meeting more and more great musicians who let me join in on their fun...thank you there too. as a big kid I'm having way too much fun out there and I blame it all on Tuesday starting the weekend. So I guess it's a blessing in disguise.
Party On Everyone!

What a great musical world I've been living in lately. I want to thank all my friends for their musical support and a big thank you to new friends who are still trying to figure out what the hell I'm up to out there. I've had the pleasure of meeting so many great artists recently and I'm blown away by their talents. I'm enjoying open mic nights around the San Francisco area and I've been able to sit in with quite a few bands lately too. Our Vacaville gigs are winding down for the year now so that will give me more road trip time...hope to see you all out there somewhere. So a special thank you goes out to Cindy, Tamra, Lee, Rick, Amber, Barry and Gretchen for being so kind to me along the musical trail. I appreciate your kind words and encouragement...and friendship.

Have a great week!
