I have to admit that I'm quite pleasantly surprised with what Courtney Love has to say in this article about how the music industry is changing. ..>http://dir.salon.com/story/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/index.html?pn=1

'We must have sympathy with artists who are concerned about the trend towards copyleft licensing, because it is naturally a frightening thing to feel that you might lose your livelihood. But in fact copyleft licenses do not preclude making money from your art. It is wholly possible to sell copyleft material. If you print copies of your book, for example, these can then be sold.

There are copyleft licences that are actually fairly similar to conventional copyright law. I'm talking about a creative commons licence. The main difference is that an individual who has a copy of the material is free to reproduce and distribute it (provided they do it for non-commercial ends). Digital tecnology has made it inevitable that people will exercise this right, as someone has previously mentioned.

As a musician, i primarily want as many people as possible to listen to my material. And i think that creative commons licences are a great way to make this happen. I think it's great that people can get to listen to it for free, and im sure that some of them will come along to the shows or buy cds.

Which brings me to mention that my band will be releasing an ep soon, called EXTERNALITIES and the band is called... COPYLEFT. And, yes, it will be available to download for free, and will also be available to buy.'

copyleft here

There has been no activity from copyleft of late. This is due to the fact that we have been busy recording. The fruits of this labour of love and hate will soon be available to anyone who cares to listen.

This EP will be live recordings of our material, and so far its sounding good so check it out.

Coming soon to the site is copyleft's brand new tune, Despair Resistant Care Assistant. It's a little different from the stuff you might have heard up till now, a very personal note from Tickle AKA MC SkeptiK. We'll be putting it up on the 3rd of January. So check it out.
