HOW IM FEELING…12/3/08
Now of days all I ever think about is death
I live another day to die
With vodka fresh on my breath
The indo helps my mind
Im passing it to the left
And all these other drugs
Well they just temporarely surpress
The pain and anger
Trapped in my mind heart and soul
It's really taking its tole
It's breaking me down slow
I really think imma fold
Like I was an old wallet
Livin la vida coked out
Out drinking alcoholics
I need more narcotics
To stop all these tears
To concore all my fears
To have smiles and cheers
On the faces of my peers
Not frowns and meen mugs
Id never thought id say this
But like L I need love
Whats sex without love
Guess what its still sex
Ive never ever been in love
But sex is nice yes
I sit and I stress
Thinking about what im doing
Should I get the bypass
Or should I start doing
What everyone around me is telling me to do
Work it out
Get a job
Grow up
Im screwed
Either way the way I see it
Im gonna lose something
My friends they are fading
Away like I was jumping
And shooting for 2 or 3
I feel like my own crew
Is getting distant from me
I aint tripping you see
Go and get your shine on
I just got a gut feeling
They gonna forget about me
I can already see
The situations mainey
I just want to let them know
That ill ways fucking be
Right here if they need me
I aint hard to find to at all
Im rep ya till I die
Imma do this till I fall..

Rapper, Big Sammy & Whoduk Where are we?
We're in my 'hood. The city of trees, man.
Why did you wake up at 1 p.m. today?
I was in the studio 'til 7:30 this morning, working on my album.
What's your album called?
Love, Drugs and Gurp: An E True HollyWoodland Story.
What do you look for in a woman?
Eyes.
She has to have eyes?
I don't like brown eyes.
Really?
They're common. I got brown eyes.
So only blue eyes?
No, they could be contacts, I don't care. As long as I don't see the brown, I'm cool. And I know I'm gonna catch a lot of shit from all the brown-eyed girls, but fucking change it up.
Where's your grill, dude?
It's getting fixed. I'm putting diamonds in it.
What kind of shit gets stuck in your gold teeth?
You're not supposed to smoke when your teeth are in, but I do anyway. So I get resin in my teeth. It gets bad. But mainly, it's just the plaque from your teeth that gets on the inside. One time, I was drunk, I started eating and there was a piece of food in there and I'm like, "What the fuck? How did that get in there?"
What kind of food was it?
I don't remember. It was gross.
If you lost weight, would you call yourself "Little Sammy?"
Fuck no, I'll stay big. Nah, you guys will see this summer. I'll be a different person.
What do you mean?
Me and [DJ] Adrian [G] … [we box] three times a week.
How much did you lose?
Like 47 pounds, so far.
Wow. That's good. Do you eat healthier now?
No. Well, I've been a vegetarian for three years, so it's not like I eat a bunch of shit.
Oprah or Martha Stewart?
Ha! Martha Stewart, hands down! She'd probably cook me breakfast better than Oprah could in the morning!
What do you do in Sacramento?
Get tattooed … at Whoduk's house. He does tattoos now. He did my leg. He did my Gurp City one. And I try to go to shows, too, but it's too political out there.
What do you mean?
There was just a huge misunderstanding like five years ago between me and one of the big groups out there. But everything's already done with.
What group?
Alumni, [Mahtie] Bush's group. We're cool; me and Bush talked about it. Right now, I can say [TPR and Bush] are on the grind right now, and I hope nothing but the best for them, you know?

Big Sammy: myspace.com/samiamwhoduk
Big Sammy understands that everybody and their mama raps nowadays, but what many so-called emcees can't seem to get through their thick skulls is that hip hop is more than just grabbing a microphone and yelling at the crowd to throw their hands in the "aye-eer."
You have to practice the art of hyping up a crowd like Bruce Lee practiced martial arts. While Big Sammy doesn't know a thing about kung fu, he has studied just as hard the art of crowd control from the time he was, well, Lil' Sammy.
"I studied from The Wu-Tang Clan to Biggie Smalls to Tupac to E-40," he says.
He remembers seeing the iconic rap group Run-DMC perform when he was just 9 years old.
"I pointed to my brother and said, 'That's what I want to do,'" Big Sammy said, adding that full-time rapping is not something he wants to do, it's something that he will do.
And when he does it, he's gonna do it big.
"You don't do a song that gets the crowd pumped up and then go into a love song," Sammy says, revealing one of his stage secrets. "I get them at the (biggest) adrenaline rush, and then I leave."
Love 'em and leave 'em: That's how he plays the game.
And there are a couple more things Big Sammy wants to make clear.
"This is no longer a game, this is my life mission," he said.
Finally, if you don't believe him, check it out for yourself.
"Come to a show," he said. "They don't make 'em like me anymore."

Local hip-hop, meet intellect Woodland group plays smart, sharp music for masses By JOSH FERNANDEZ/Democrat staff Writer Daily Democrat
With tattoos on his forearms, baggy jeans, an oversized T-shirt and a semi-permanent scowl on his face, one might think that 27-year-old Whoduk is a common thug. Surprisingly, he's not a thug at all. In fact, he's far from it. If anything, the cap-to-the-side, walk-with-a-limp rapper considers himself a new kind of street artist.
Some might be surprised, and even skeptical, to find that Whoduk is a legitimate artist, but surprise and skepticism are key ingredients to keeping people interested - a theory that rings especially true when it comes to music. It could be a reason why aging pop star Madonna has gone through more appearance changes than an international fugitive, or why Prince altered his name to become a symbol, then back again. It might even lend a clue as to why the name Ashlee Simpson will most likely be forgotten within the next 15 minutes.
Woodland rap group Big Sammy & Whoduk are keenly aware of the need to hold people's attention; however, they're too smart for gimmicks.
The group is using its collective brain and enthusiasm for life as means to keep musicians on their toes.
Hip-hop plus brains and business savvy equals a formula for success - ask Diddy,
Jay-Z or Snoop Dogg - hip-hop artists with millions of dollars in Swiss bank accounts. However, the four members of Big Sammy & Whoduk are just enjoying their local success first and trying to win a few fans along the way before they even begin setting their sites on international fame.
Whoduk is a prime example of bringing the element of surprise to the group; an intellect in thug's clothing makes for an interesting character.
"I come from the hood, but I'm not a gangster," he said, adjusting the bill on his hat - so it was crooked, of course.
Whoduk grew up on the streets of South Sacramento, where inclinations to partake in the gang life are all too tempting.
However, the rapper had his mind set on other, loftier goals.
"I started as a graffiti artist," he said, adding that breakdancing and art were his way out of the street life.
Whoduk got his start rapping as a fluke. His friend's group, who was already paying for time in the recording studio, was missing a member - Whoduk stepped up to the plate and filled in for the absent member in a twist of fate that he only describes as a kind of alchemy.
"It was spontaneous combustion, and the flame is still burning," he said.
Whatever the scale might say, 24-year-old Big Sammy takes up only a quarter of the group, but like Whoduk, the Woodland heavyweight is equally as passionate about his art.
"People trip out because I'm a big person," Sammy said regarding his energetic stage performances. The rapper said what matters for the group is to have as much fun as possible and play music for the people of Woodland, not to keep banging on the door of success.
"You have to make it in your hometown first," he said, adding that he's content being a rapper on the brink of something big.
"I could work a 9-to-5 and be miserable," Sammy said with a smile. "And who gets to say, 'I lived out my dream?'"
His bandmates praise him as the "backbone" of the group, and the guy "Who'll make anyone dance," DJ Adrian G, 27, is also a humble character, who is also just enjoying the moment.
"I've always been into music," Adrian said. "I started DJing by putting two tape players together and making mixes."
From his humble beginnings experimenting with music, it was when he went to see a live show that sealed his hip-hop envelope and sent it toward the sky.
"I went to a club and saw the DJ controlling the crowd," he said.
Using his audio know-how, DJ Adrian G now works at UC Davis' Mondavi Center as a sound technician.
Also in the group is the ever-busy Jake Uno, who usually makes an appearance when a live performance or recording is in order, but he's often times caught up lining "the white picket fence" life with his family, Sammy said.
The element of surprise was exhibited in full force when the group, who describes their music as half street rap and the other half "real hip-hop," played on a set list at an all-day show that was mostly oriented toward hardcore rock n' roll fans.
Once the enigmatic group hit the stage, however, all boundaries were broken and their stunning performance won them a spot among the day's top performers.
Whoduk said he loves the diversity his fans have to offer - from punk rockers to hardcore hip-hop heads, "as long as they're feeling our music" it's okay with him.
For now, the group is going to continue getting their name out to whoever is listening, whether they're rockers, rappers, fraternity brothers or teeny boppers. Their motto is to be patient while doing what they love.
Whoduk said he believes firmly in the motto, "The best things come to those who wait."
"Hmm," he said, looking off into space, "I'm gonna tattoo that on me."
Spoken like a true thug. Uh, artist.

Maximum Freedom = maximum mania
College-esque concert rocked Davis' world with all kinds of music
By JOSH FERNANDEZ/Democrat staff Writer Daily Democrat
In what turned out to be a bizarre public display of irony, a gathering that's aim was to represent personal freedom, unfortunately ended in what has come to be a concert clich : With police vehicles, sirens and disgruntled music-lovers asking themselves, "What happened?" Operation: Restore Maximum Freedom IV, put on by KDVS 90.3 FM in Davis on Saturday, was supposed to have featured 17 bands and lasted from noon until midnight, but instead was cut short early by Yolo County police at about 10:30, leaving two bands without a venue to perform and over a hundred unhappy music aficionados.
Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies showed up to Plainfield Station on County Road 98, only citing "an anonymous complaint" as the reason to shut down a party that had gone for the whole day without so much as a problem, nor a hint of violence.
Early Saturday, Brendan Boyle, co-creator of the Operation, and KDVS DJ, was busy making sure the event ran smoothly, talking with concert-goers and members of the media and helping bands with their equipment - some who traveled from as far away as Japan.
Another KDVS DJ and event co-creator Rick Ele was also busy helping the owners of the establishment, make sure that nothing went wrong.
Ele's job was easy, according to the owner of the Plainfield Station Restaurant and Bar, Pietro Fazzari, who said hardly anything ever goes wrong when he hosts music events at his establishment.
"I've been doing a lot of punk rock shows here," Fazzari said. "They're good kids."
Fazzari purchased the property, along with the neighboring home in 2002, reserving its spacious backyard for a stage and a second beer and food bar.
In the past few years, Fazzari has been trying to establish his bar/restaurant as a music venue that will hopefully cater to Davis and Woodland music fans, while still keeping its "local bar" feel.
There were many music fans from around the country, as well as locals of the bar, who were excited for the day-long event.
Attendees at Saturday's concert brought blankets to sit in the grass, sipped on cheap beer, talked with friends and, of course, listened to the eclectic range of musicians who took to the stage.
There were many notable bands to choose from throughout the day.
Th' Losin Streaks from Sacramento, a band that sounded like the Beach Boys had they been formed in juvenile hall, made the crowd jump, with Northern California legend Mike Farrell doing everything but making love to his own guitar on stage.
Obo Martin came from the Sierra Nevada mountains to play a truly unique style of music that blended many elements of music and story-telling.
At the end of his performance, Martin left the audience asking for more.
"I'm a far-out folk-rock focus-ing-er," Martin said regarding his classification of music, adding that he enjoyed playing in Woodland "under the beautiful sunset."
The true beauty of the show, according to its creators, was to embody the freedom that music is supposed to represent - a freedom that could be getting lost in today's era of pre-fabricated bands and molded celebrity images.
"It's supposed to be diverse and eclectic," Boyle said.
And that it was.
New Rock Syndicate and LSD March from Japan hypnotized the audience with a blend of jazz/rock/psychedelic melody; The Trashies came from Seattle to show Woodland exactly how trashy "trash-rock" can be; and the prolific Michael Hurley took a stop in the city of trees to bless the audience with a ride on his freight train of folk.
Perhaps the most surprising, energetic and well-loved performance of the day was from Woodland's own hip-hop group, Big Sammy and Whoduk.
On a set list that was mostly rock n' roll oriented, Big Sammy, Jake Uno and DJ Adrian G could have been billed as the underdogs of the evening. However, once the enigmatic group hit the stage, all boundaries were broken and their stunning performance won them a spot among the day's top performers.
Punks with tattoos, girls with satin dresses, hip-hop fans, and the most devout indie-rockers had no choice but to turn the grass field into an all-out dance party once Big Sammy and his crew started their show.
After the performance, a physically huge and visibly excited Big Sammy said he was happy to have such an impact on the audience.
"Someone told me that you just gotta' be you wherever you go," Big Sammy said after his performance, adding that he was impressed by many of the rock acts that preceded him.
The rapper's statement about individuality was something the creators of the event had in mind when they coined the term "Maximum Freedom." After all, they worked hard to bring diversity and boundary-crossing music to Woodland.
However, the freedom didn't last long as Yolo County Sheriff's deputies showed up as hip-hop act Third Sight was setting up their equipment.
The show was cut-off well before headliner Kid 606, an electronic artist from the bay area, could make his musical splash on Woodland.
After the police came and broke up the party because of a report of a complaint of loud music, Boyle, visibly upset, was forced to get on the microphone to tell the audience the show could not continue.
"It seems illogical," Boyle said. "The reason we started this was that house shows were shut down; there needs to be a space where we can do this."
He left the crowd with a final suggestion.
"Raise your voice," he said. "Get your opinion out there."
