The first ever Demander dance remix, shows, 7" record, NEW ALBUM!!

BOOKS (SHY CHILD REMIX)
is avail for FREE download at rcrdlbl.com! The spazzy hot electronic duo from Brooklyn has done remixes for the likes of AC Slater, Dead Kids and Tokyo Police Club and they've turned Books into an insanely sweet and addictive dance track. It crazy. &*(@#$&@

WE'VE STARTED RECORDING OUR NEW ALBUM and it's going to be called FUTURE BRITE which is also the name of one of the tracks. It also happens to be the name of a few lighting businesses. But that's neither here nor there. We don't know a hell of a lot about lighting - Karen once shocked herself on Xmas lights at a show and Sivan has been lightly toasted many times by badly-aimed spotlights - but we do know about hot tracks. And this record is going to be full of them. Look for photos and videos from the studio over the next two months...

DEMANDER on RECORD PLAYERS  You've got a record player? You're going to get a record player? You don't have a record player but you like pretty hand-numbered records in clear vinyl? Exclusive mixes of Books and Coulee are now out on 7", courtesy of the extremely awesome people at These Are Not Records.

MERCH de DEMANDER is now avail on our fancy new merch page. We're making a killer record. Buy things we made and support us!

$$$OUTHPAW FRIDAY FEB 27th yours truly w/ Peculiar Gentlemen, Badman & She Keeps Bees.

$$$PIKE HILL THURSDAY MARCH 12th
free show w/ Nathan Halpern (The Flesh) & Workers.

Now aaaaalright, that's an update. Proper.

LOVE YOU MADLY,
Demander

Hello gorgeous people, the time is nigh! Things are afoot. We're about to drop it like it's hot etc etc. Our first show since the dawn of time is confirmed (June 12 at Bowery Ballroom) and we hope you can all come. We miss you. Big time. We've got a video in the works (with Crankbunny, the crazy genius responsible for our Hollis video), a 7" on the way and three birthdays to get through in the meantime. Write us something, say hello, come out in June.

BOWERY BALLROOM NYC JUNE 12TH is where you must be. We're playing with Bang Camaro and The Giraffes. Last time we played Bowery it sold out (and we tried to sneak people in but lord it was harder than we thought) so maybe buy tickets early this time?

DONT BUY STUFF - Just have it! Free! Books and Coulee are up on MySpace for free listen and download (for the time being). They make kissing better, hangovers easier.

TEETERING ON THE BRINK OF AMAZING? Oh yeah. Below are some of our favorite bits from recent magazine write-ups...five million shots for the Deli Magazine writer who not only referred to "cockles" but also got spaghetti, cartoons and exuberant gloom in his write-up.

Alright, that's an update. Proper. Send cake!

Love, love, love, and lawngnome, DEMANDER

NYC Bands on the rise: Demander
I like this band. Now I could approximate Demander's sound by describing the NYC trio as Tom Waits with surf rhythms and blistering female vocals, at times edging on melodicore, driving a speeding runaway train of adventure rock with vivid, emotive vocals. My roommate calls the band, "Yeah Yeah Yeahs on prog(?) pills, exuberant but kinda gloomy, Sergio Leone dramatics + NYC guitar rock." So I guess "cross-genre" would be an accurate descriptor; I feel guilty about making comparisons. Demander has its own sound, touching on so many different reference points – Las Vegas, Victorian London, Saturday morning cartoons, spaghetti westerns – that the band makes one question the point of criticism at all. Well I'm here to tell you the point – Demander needs to be heard, especially if any of the preceding words strike a hint of interest, excitement, or curiosity deep within your cockles. Word has it the band is just starting work on its sophomore release. I can't wait.

CMJ.com Feature Article, April 2008
Pop quiz: You've released an unstoppably ass-kicking album that seamlessly melds decades of gritty New York underground rock with a bit of Pac-Northwest riot grrrl indie menace; you've toured extensively with everyone from the Hold Steady to New Model Army; your video for "Hollis" is as clever and engaging an animated clip as any by a more high-budget band; but somehow you still don't get your proper due amidst the many musical communities you so tantalizingly cater to. Who are you? There is no answer other than Demander, the dual-gender trio straight outta New York (and not Williamsburg, but actual New York, New York), whose fierce DIY ethics (last year's The Unkindness Of Ravens was self-released, as will be their in-the-works followup) are part of their endearing package...

Big Takeover Magazine [forthcoming Spring issue which includes features on REM, Band of Horses, New Pornographers and muito mais]
Since 2004, this New York, NY trio – featuring bassist/singer/songwriter Karen Corrêa, powerhouse drummer Sivan Harlap (both ex-Hissyfits) and guitarist Jared Scott – has kicked up quite a racket and they are finally starting to get some attention. Counting the Hold Steady and New Model Army (!) as their peers, the band offers everything you want in an edgy, modern indie punk influenced rock band: locked-in playing, sophisticated songs, great melodies, adventurous songwriting and flawless production. Fans of Rainer Maria, Alexisonfire, PJ Harvey and Sleater-Kinney will find this band a welcome addition to their lives. A solid start by a promising band that's teetering on the verge of amazing.

Twas a cold, cold night but the Bowery was full-up and warm and everyone was happy and full of sushi (well, we were) and booze (both Jared and Karen seem unsure of how they got home). We fell in love with Kevin Devine and his band all over again, came close to running away with the Jealous Girlfriends and made all sorts of inappropriate overtures to Brian Bonz. What can I say, we're a little loose. We loved every damn minute of Saturday night and, thanks to Sean O'Kane (so much love), we can even provide a little photo story for those of you who missed it...

So it all started well enough...Sivan and Jared were rocking...

Jared crouching

Karen was rocking...

karenback

but then things...got...out of hand...

suddenly, karen was screaming into jared's microphone...

karenscreams

and jared retaliated with a few too many windmills....

jaredwindmill

and behind-the-head guitar solos (damn you jared!)...

jaredbehindthehead

and then he slid straight off the stage (note sivan cracking the hell up)...

jaredslide

into the audience (who started cracking the hell up)...

jaredaudience

which made karen forget their immortal battle and crack the hell up...

karenlaughing

at which point they resolved to go straight to the bar and have copious amounts of vodka (current score in vodka vs. karen: vodka-1,965 karen-0) and whiskey. which they did.

a beautiful night? definitely. see you next time...

its not what you think. this is not dirty bathroom humor. this is not a sappy love letter. we are back from tour and although we are ever so happy to be back home in our beloved nyc, it was sad to see the tour end.

we drove over 9000 kilometers in 36 days, played 27 shows in 6 countries. visited countless cities, made numerous new friends, grew as individuals and as a band. we went thro so much over the past 6 weeks, covered so much ground and learned more than we could have ever imagined.

we cut back on our usage of the word awesome, got to know the favored european one way street system all too well (we were lost in vienna for an hour and a half, lost in munich for an hour, lost in the uk for a total of over 10 hours..) we learned how to say, "we are demander." "this song is called, books." in german and italian. got bruised, got cut, bled. i might have even shed a tear, or five, driving away from the last night with new model army. not from sadness, but from such an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and a job very very well done by all three of us.

we had no driver, no gps, no merch person, no roadie. we had each other. on thanksgiving in brighton we toasted to family. our chosen family. the three of us together. its hard to fully explain the intensity and array of emotions felt and situations endured on a lengthy tour. all i can say to sum it up is that it was truly awesome. and not awesome, like everyday awesome, but really truly, fine me a tenner cuz i mean it, AWESOME.

we are playing our first show back in the states next weekend, saturday dec 15th, at union pool in brooklyn, ny. please come out and join us. we miss our hometown honey's! below are some pics from the last couple days of tour. thanks to everyone who made it the very special and unique experience it was. it will never be forgotten. much love, us three, The D

I just woke up and felt a nagging urge to tell you where I slept last night. On a single bed, with Karen, in an Oxford University dorm room. Roger (our host) is on the floor. Jared is down the hall sleeping on the couch in Patrick's room. He's the RA, so his place is pretty sweet. Slept really well actually, lookng forward to my shower. The dorm rooms at Oxford have suprisingly swank bathrooms. That is all. Good morning. X

Proper Uni. Experience No. 71 - I offered to clean out Roger's mini fridge. Bad idea. I think I went running and screaming down the dormitory hall at 4am trying desperately to escape the cloud of foul smells wafting from the once perfectly fine mini fridge. Food should never smell like that.

mmm, english breakfast...
