so support your friendly neighborhood poet by offering him a sandwhich. you know s/he needs a mean.
speaking of hungry poets...
On Saturday, April 7th at 8pm, the finalists for the
"Hungry Poets Contest" will be reading their works at the Blue Moose Cafe in Morgantown!
The Blue Moose, a generous supporter of the arts in Morgantown, will host the reading again this year. Located at 248 Walnut Street, The Blue Moose brews the best coffee, tea, and chai in a three block radius and offers a semi-wide range of sandwiches, wraps, and miscellaniae from a rather organic menu. Sounds too good to pass up, eh?
Come on out and support these fine poets and The Blue Moose.
this was lifted from the West Virginia Writer's e-mail. Thanks guys.
And as always, if you hear something poetry related, let us know.

For those of you, who attend the former number 1 partying school, spring break is next week. Before you go off into the nether, we at M.A.P. thought you should be updated on the poetry scene in the Morgantown area, since April is poetry month and all...
Contest:
West Virginia Writer's Inc. holds an annual statewide contest with tons of categories, including poetry. The official deadline has been met, however, the good people down there know their audience, and have an extended deadline. Here's the latest e-mail that was sent out.
How I Discovered - It's Never Too Late to Enter WVW Contest
West Virginia Writers' Contest Administrator asked if I was planning to submit any manuscripts to the 2007 Spring Writing Competition. She enticed me by adding that, we pay good cash prizes.
I apologized and explained, I missed the deadline, what with so much work to do. No, she said, you can still submit work. Our late deadline is March 31st. It'll cost you just an extra two bucks.
I told her, that's nothing. . . I'll give up buying a cafe latte mocha java with chocolate sprinkles and a slice of cucumber on top, and then I asked her, do you really check the postmark date. . . ?
And she asked me, do you really add a slice of cucumber to a latte? - So, I went home to the computer. I pulled out my Mexican novella and genre short story, and started to polish off a few lines. Ah yes, here are two worthy manuscripts. Next, I checked West Virginia Writers webpage at www.wvwriters.org and I discovered two more categories to enter my humor piece on cafe lattes, and an Appalachian feature. Four entries. Now I need a larger envelope, and it is off to the post office where postage stamps will soon be forever. . . == WVW's Annual Spring Writing Contest offers some $6,500 in cash prizes. Besides 12 regular categories, there are categories for young writers in high school, and elementary and middle school students too. Cash prizes - no matter what the age of the writer. Open to all residents of West Virginia, and dues-paying members of WVW who live somewhere else.
Still 10 days left until March 31st . . . Official WVW entry form at http://www.wvwriters.org/contest.html

This was in the Daily Athenaeum today--West Virginia University's college paper. It sounds like a good opportunity for poets to get their work on air. Here's the article:
U-92 brings WVU's first writer series to radio
By Aaron Rote Staff Writer West Virginia writers will finally have a place to voice their opinions and share their work when "Written on the Hills" premiers next Wednesday on U-92, WVU's college radio station. The first of its kind in West Virginia, "Written on the Hills" will be a weekly specialty show focusing on authors from around the University community. The show is the brainchild of Rebecca Fedorko and Rheadrea Walker, two U-92 DJs who have combined their interests to develop the show's format. "We both had the same idea completely separate from one another, Fedorko said. "Rheadrea is interested in poetry, and I'm completely obsessed with talk radio." The idea has blossomed into the first radio show for writers in the local area. Although National Public Radio broadcasts a select few writer-oriented shows such as "Selected Shorts" and "Writer's Almanac," Fedorko says that West Virginia's creative talent is generally unrepresented over the radio waves. "We felt it was something that was needed," Fedorko said. "The local NPR doesn't even have anything. Until now, there was no creative outlet for local writers." Next Wednesday's debut show will feature award winning author and WVU professor Mark Brazaitus. Brazaitus is the author of three books, including his most recent release, "An American Affair." His stories, poems and essays have appe ared in The Sun, the Notre Dame Review, the Atlanta Review and other highly regarded literary journals. "We wanted to start off by presenting a higher caliber writer," Fedorko said. "That's why we asked Mark." In the future, the show will be open to talented writers at all skill levels. "You just have to be affiliated with University in some way. The goal is to celebrate the writing potential of our state." Anyone interested in appearing on the show can submit a short biography and a sample of written work to u92word@gmail.com. "Our only restriction is nothing too violent or sexually explicit. We want to reach as broad an audience as possible," Fedorko said. "Written on the Hills" premiers next Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. U-92 can be heard on FM 91.7 or online at u92.wvu.edu. joseph.rote@mail.wvu.edu
