I've just realised I've been posting stuff about Hello Hubmarine without really explaining what it is. So here goes...

"A meeting of minds and mouths from Derby, Hello Hubmarine is a collective of writers, musicians, producers and thinkers hell-bent on creating a better future through writing. Manifesting itself as a monthly night of fiction, poetry, music and film, the collective is getting a name for itself as a thrower of great parties as well as good performance."

Chief Hubmariners include Catherine Rogers, Aimee Wilkinson, Emma J. Lannie, Simon Jones, Biff Birkin, Nathan Good, Joe Coghlan, Michael Frearson, Jo Lewis, and assorted guests.

Right then! I want some musicians to gig and record my songs with. I'm based in Derby so it helps if you are too! You've gotta be able to produce a sweet tone and play sensitively.

STRING PLAYERS especially welcome. But I'm open to all instruments, voices, whatever... If you want to make beautiful sounds and can make my songs sound lovelier than they already do, get in touch!

Message me here or email artistjolewis@hotmail.co.uk

Yes dear friends, it's that time again - but with a change in personnel.

I'm really excited about this so please check it out!

Known By An Alias is the project of guitarist Liam Mcbride, a series of EPs featuring various guests. The first EP is now available, featuring myself on vocals alongside Liam's melodic intricate guitar playing.

"Acoustic Guitar, and a haunting but female mature voice form the basis of all 4 tracks on the EP, and being a big fan of acoustic music this really appeals to me. The songs on the EP, especially "Winter's Song" convey a lot of emotion through the natural sound, simple but well thought out lyrics beautifully played and sung. It's a love song; "To you a few bars of careful guitar, A song that says simply I love you", taken from the song itself probably sums it up better than any words from me could do.

The 3rd track "Sent out a party" on the EP is also one that grabs your attention; from the off it comes across as more agressive than any of the other tracks on the album, rebelious, a song that seems to be about wanting to be yourself and not letting anybody get in your way.

Overall I'd give this on an 8/10 and will definitely look to include one of the tracks in a future show." - Haze

People people people!

Here's a review of 'these four walls' for you to have a look at. It'd be good to put more reviews up, so if you fancy having a go just holler at me, and I'll send you an EP. Cheers - jo xx

Let's face it, singer/songwriters are everywhere. The seemingly never-ending influx of girls and boys with an acoustic guitar and a broken heart can be worrying at times. So it's nice to stick Jo Lewis' new EP on, and quietly let yourself unwind to her seductive music. Yes, she has an acoustic, and she talks of love but she does so in a way that doesn't have you reaching for the skip button. Lewis seems to be able to do that rarest of all things; hold your attention.

The essence of this CD and Lewis' music is her voice; often quiet but confident with an almost soulful tinge to it at times, it definitely lights up her songs in quite a unique way. The best example of this would be 'Sent Out A Party', sticking out with attitude and a defiant mood, which her voice seems to appreciatively wrap around. Her vocal melodies intertwine very well with her guitar playing, especially on 'We Come Undone', which somehow manages to talk about a relationship break up with a seductive presentation.

Whilst the lyrical content does often dwell on love issues, Lewis seems confident enough in her phrasing not to let it delve too much into self-pity or let it grate on the listener, and in a world where 90% of the songs we hear are about love, such a command of language is pretty damn welcome.

Right people! Bit of info on the new recordings for you...

These recordings were made thanks to the beautiful members of Commune, who very kindly lent me the use of their studio for a day. This is my first EP, and I'm calling it  'these four walls' (no capitals, I'm too cool for that).

The four walls in question were those of my student room in halls, which is where the four songs were written - oh, and also where the cover photo was taken... isn't it beautiful?

Anyway, you can get hold of a copy at my gigs (none lined up at this moment, someone make me an offer I can't refuse) or failing that, drop me a line and we'll sort summat out.

cheers  -  jo xx
