We hope you continue to enjoy our music.

So, it's about time we're playing a hometown show!  It's Friday August 22nd at the glorious Odeon.  It'll be licensed all-ages and doors open at 6pm.  Not to brag, but also on the bill are The Rebellion, Golden Smoke and The Warbrides.  It's going to be quite the night!

Current mood:  breezy
Hey all,
Long time no talk! It's certainly not because our love in any way has diminished, we've just been enjoying the summer and hope you've been doing the same. Last weekend Calgary's Sled Island festival saw us take the stage, and a couple of weeks prior, Toronto's North By North East witnessed the same- we've got a thing for festivals it seems.

Our NXNE experience was hilarious: it was 40 C (sorry American friends, my imperial measurement conversion skills are nil) but we refused to sacrifice our fashion (boys look good in tuxes and I'm meant to be a belle in a ball gown), so we all looked like our luxury liner had shipwrecked on a desert island. We stood out, though! Ha. Our shows were SO fun, especially the nighttime Rivoli event which left us smiling from ear to ear (thanks to our friends who came with us from Saskatoon- how lucky are we to have an entourage of support?!). NXNE also afforded us the pleasure of *seeing* lots of shows: Bionic, Sloan, Black Diamond Bay, oh like a zillion others... and of course we ate a lot of pizza. p.s. I just discovered that hot pepper shaker to be a new friend- you should try it if you've always been wary.

So now we're gearing up for Ness Creek, a Saskatoon classic (July 17-20). We're headlining the Thursday night and then we'll probably camp out for the weekend to take in some nature and music- perhaps you'd care to join us? I hear there are late-night campfires and I betcha there are acoustic guitars...

Hope to see you soon- perhaps your tent'll be next to ours at Ness! Lots of love from our band to you,
Maygen + The Blood Lines

p.s. Forgot to mention Canada Day was yesterday. I wore red n' white and a random little girl gave me a flag pin which I also donned happily. Did you celebrate?

Current mood:  fabulous

Hi, Maygen here. Hope you're well and that music is dominating your life in the most positive of ways. Anyhow, this message of cute doesn't feature a kitty-in-a-pizza-box jpeg attachment or the curse of bad luck if you don't pass the sentiment on. Rather, it's a slice of my life. See, I'm a Brownie leader (I go by Tawny Owl) and the other day, the Brownies came into S.J.'s studio (where the current TBL album was done) for a recording studio field trip. They were so excited to see where the band rehearses and to sing into the same microphones that we do. There was a CBC news camera there, too, which made the day all the more special for the girls.

If you'd like to check out the song the Brownies sang and flip through photos of the fun, just click these words which are clearly a link! .

Keep us in your heart and we'll keep you in ours.

Lots of love,

Maygen + The Blood Lines

Just a quick note to let everyone know, we've had to postpone our Saskatoon show.  May is just going to be too hectic for the band with recording and such and the pressure of rehearsing / preparing for the show amidst the recording was starting to weigh us down.  We'll be looking forward to a hometown show sometime over the summer though, so keep close.

PS - Congratulations to Kevin for taking "producer of the year" at the Junos!

Congratulations to our three contest winners, Syd, Justin & Alex!  By adding our music to their profiles, they were entered into a draw to win autographed CDs from The Blood Lines.  Thanks to everyone who participated!  Keep close,

Current mood:  exhausted
I think we’re officially exhausted.. a 34 hour drive, 4 hours of sleep, an XM Radio performance / interview, IODA party, Canadian Blast BBQ, Horseshoe Tavern BBQ, meetings, 5 hours of sleep, Musebox Party Performance, Six-shooter / mint records party, Showcase @ The Blind Pig, Raveonettes concert, another 5 hours of sleep, Saskatchewan party performance, CBC / NXNE / Manitoba party, Krief, Moby, N.E.R.D. shows, hanging out with tons of friends and family and roasting in the March heat that is so foreign to us.. it’s been an incredibly hectic, frantic and very fun week here at South by Southwest in Texas.

We just got back to our wonderful hosts’ house and everyone but me is already fast asleep..  It’s actually hard to slow down.. the streets are closed and there is music in every venue at nearly every hour and you’re afraid you’ll miss something if you sleep, but I suppose I really should join them now.. We’ve still got two more days until the 34 hour drive home.  Hope the lack of actual details in the above itinerary doesn’t seem like a cop out - I’m just really tired.  More later..

Current mood:  tired

Well, it has been quite the week..

First, Maygen and I (S.J.) drove three hours South-East of Saskatoon to Southey, SK (fitting name) to buy the Dodge Van
(as voted by you all in a previous blog).  Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, it was too small for our gear and Maygen's many garment bags, but fortunately the salesman, Merv (pictured above) was really nice and helped us track down a van in Regina.   Unfortunately, when we arrived in Regina we discovered the van was stuck in snow and trapped behind several cars at the back of the lot and Maygen didn't have time to wait for the dealer to tow the cars out with a Bobcat, so she left me in Regina with hopes the van would work out.  (Don't worry, I DID have a back-up plan - Our friends Golden Smoke would be playing in Regina that evening and I could surely hitch a ride back with them if the van were a lemon).  Fortunately, it seemed the van worked out!  Unfortunately, on the way back to Saskatoon - it didn't.  The transmission went, but I was able to drive about 80k the rest of the way home, have the van checked out and discover I need to be seeking a return!

Still van-less, we investigated our other options - nearly booking a flight to Kelowna to check out a 2001 Ford, which ended up having a lien on it, we returned to one of our first options -
the Chevy.

So, today my sister, Maygen and I ventured two hours Northeast of Saskatoon to "the land of rape and honey", Tisdale - yes, that's really their slogan.  We've never been to Tisdale before, but after spending a the afternoon killing time while the vehicle was being inspected by a local mechanic, I think we've seen and done everything!

We started off with some A&W - I should mention we had just enjoyed A&W breakfast before leaving Saskatoon, but we had to grease the wheels again.  We then went in to basically every shop 'downtown' experiencing the friendly locals and one grumpy old man in a scooter.  The bustling Thursday afternoon bowling alley was a highlight.  No auto-score machines there!  Just paper and a pen.  Finally, the van was ready, and after consulting with our mechanic about the necessary repairs, we negotiated a deal with the school that was selling it and we were on our way.

Our adventures ended with our Dad, who strangely happened to be in the Tisdale area, playing the role of pace car to our new van.  Next stop, Texas...

On March 2nd, 2006 over a beer at Lydia's Pub, Paul, Barrett, Maygen and I finalized the name, "The Blood Lines" - casting out alternates "The Rebellion", "Sisters and Brothers" and "Bandcat".  Now, two years later, we're about to record our second album and we feel less like two families and more like one.  So, happy birthday to us!
