Wow , I can't believe the last time I was on here was in June....   crazy...   Actually I got on last night to write this but just before I finished up the damn thing would reload on me and I would loose everything.  Don't know if it was me or myspace....    So I will attempt to write again and see what happens.

I'm sorry I couldn't get on here as often as I would have liked during these past few months.  It has just been one wild and crazy rehab season.    I finished my intake critters records and my total critters that came thru my door was 107, and those are the ones that i have paperwork for.  i'm sure there were a few that I didn't write down because of the madness at the time.    For instance, at one time I had 28 pinkie squirrels and 7 baby bats.  I was getting up at 6 am and not getting to bed until midnight,  my brain was mush at that time.   Non stop feedings...   crazy..........    Finally, I have just released my 2nd to last set of 6 squirrels and just have a set of 4 to overwinter because they are to young to release at this time.   So as you can imagine, I have been enjoying sleeping in, if 8:30 is really sleeping in and crawling into bed to watch tv at 9 pm.   However, now the holidays are upon us and now I have that to deal with.   Ahhhhh   no rest for the weary......     At least I have my birthday trip in Feb to look forward to, which i'm sure while i'm gone the first pinky squirrels of the 2010 season will arrive and I'll have a little pink bundle of joy waiting for me when I get back. It just amazes me has fast the year flies by during baby season.   One minute its feb and the next thing I know I need to go Christmas shopping.......   Bah hum bug I say.......  Then the babies are here again...  ...LOL......

This season was a long and emotional one.   I got in a lot of really injured babies and its so heartbreaking to do and try everything I can to save them only in the end to have them pass on.  I always have to remember that at least they died in a warm bed and were loved.  There were also ones that pulled thru which made up for the ones I lost and put the smile back on my face.   All part of the job, the good the bad and the ugly.....  One squirrel I got in near the tail end of the season was amazing.  I named him  Popscycle.  I got a call about 8pm one night during our first rain storm from a couple who found a squirrel on the sidewalk.  They said he was soaked and cold & not moving but alive.  They were kind enough to bring him to me even though the weather was terrible and the roads were a mess.   About 20 minutes later they arrived with this 12 week or so old squirrel.  The poor thing was so cold to the touch I didn't hold out much hope.  It was like he was just removed from the freezer and was thawing out.   I thanked the couple for bringing him to me and rushed him inside.   I warmed a t-shirt began drying him as best I could, wrapped him in the warm shirt ,  then wrapped a heating pad around him and held him close to me.  So there I sat for about 3 hrs. holding this little guy hoping for the best.  Finally, he began to stir and was warmed enough to offer some fluids.   He took about 5 cc's water  and tucked himself back into my lap.    At around midnight I set him up in a small cage and got some much needed sleep.  The next morning as I pulled the towel off the cage, he was on the door and began his squirrel screaming at me.  I scooted him off the door to take him out to check him over and the little guy bolted out as soon as I opened the door and promply jumped up the wall to the curtains and took off.  AWESOME i thought, he's fully recovered and wants the hell out of this strange place.  After a few moments of squirrel wrangling I put him back and called the people who found him to let them know he made a full recovery.  Being an older squirrel and with no other injuries or problems i thought the best thing to do was to take him home to where he was found.  He was stressed and it was a beautiful sunny day so off we went all the while he continued to squirrel scream at me in his carrier.   Once in the car I told him he was going home and it was so weird, after I said that I didn't hear a peep out of him, like he knew what I said.   After  about a 10 minute ride, we arrived at his home.  I took the carrier out found a safe spot, opened up the carrier fully expecting him to go flying out.  But nooooooo, the little guy slowly saunted out looked around, twitched his tail and hopped over to a tree jumped up and was gone.  No thank you , nothing..LOL>>
I stayed around a few minutes to watched him and he was so happy to be home, up in that tree doing what squirrels do. So I said good-bye, told him to stay dry & be safe.  I think about that little guy everytime I drive past his home, I hope he's living a happy squirrelly life........
Anyhow, this is getting a little too long, I just wanted to share one happy story with everyone and check in to say hi to all.   Thanks for still being my friends, luv ya all & hugs to all

Hi everyone,

I miss everyone so much, seems I can never find the time to get on here much.  I still have a bunch of squirrels at the moment, 6 sets of squirrels in large cages.  So now my mornings are spent chopping up food and cleaning.  I usually finish up around lunch time and then its time to run errands or get stuff done around the house.  Also my friend is fostering 3 kittens that someone found and we have been switching off in caring for them.  They were about 3 1/2 weeks when found and  they are now about 5 weeks.  I will post pics as soon as I get them downloaded.  So, I still have 18 squirrels getting ready for enclosure time, and a robin fledge in my care along with an educational bat that has to be handfeed. Its really strange, by now I usually have little babies by now but nothing has come in, I guess they all decided to  stay with their mom's.
I hope everyone is doing ok, and thanks for your comments.  just wanted to say hi to all and let you know i'm still here but just trying to catch up on things that I never get to. you all rock!
hugs & luv to all, Mama

Hi again everyone,

So as you have noticed I have not been on here in almost a month, that being due to squirrel showers.....    It seems like almost everyday in March I had a squirrel come in with only a few days of break.  I had 3 severe head trauma cases that required a lot,  a stagered feeding times with all the different ages etc etc........   All this on top of trying to sneak out to run errands, potty training a new puppy as of easter time, clean all my animal friends ....  Seems  like by the time I had a chance to check in here, I was just to tired to  do anything but enjoy an hour before bedtime having a beer before I crashed . April squirrels slowed down a bit bit still got a few in.  A bat also came in along with a baby raccoon which were passed on to other care givers, I was just the pitstop for them....    This 1st season I have taken in 33 baby squirrels, losing about 7 of them due to unknown trauma or head trauma.
So here it is almost may and I have been told by some that the males are already at it again with the females, so the 2nd season is right around the corner......   Hopefully by then Badger will have been potty trained and I will be caught up on my house cleaning, yeah right, that never happens until just before the holidays....  then I have about 3 months to get everything done.  I ususally only have a set or 2 that needs overwintering, which is nothing, just feed & clean um.
So I just wanted to shout out a big hi to all and send some luv as I work my way back to you all.    little by little I shall get back......  nothing can keep me away, except squirrels that is  LOL.....   Take care everyone...  hugs & luv mama

Hello

..again my friends
Sorry this has taken a while to write but squirrel babies have arrived so you all know what that means....   feedings cleanings etc so let me see if I can sum up my trip before I need to start feeding 14 babies again. Ok our trip was awesome, it only stormed the first night and rained off and on for a couple days after that.  We spent the first 4 nights at lake cachuma  in the yurt.  During our first night there it was blustery & raining hard and we lost power a couple of times but luckily it came right back on. Even though all we had was a small light over the door it was nice because it was sooooo pitch black outside and inside.  Oh and did I say that the walk to the bathrooms was about the length of a football field away?  Yup u guessed it, we decided that was crazy to walk to in the pouring down blowing in the wind rain so we had to make do with a tree near our parked car and an umbrella.  Unfortuntly the umbrella was a bad idea because it reversed itself and became useless as soon as we went outside.  We were laughing soooo hard trying not to wet ourselves not that it would have made a difference because we were getting soaking wet anyhow.  That is what happens when one cannot hold their beer and the bathroom is a mile away!  Seems like we had to go every time we finished a beer.  Ahh who cares we thought, were on vacation!!  So the first night was filled with listening to the rain come down upon our yurt (which was loud) and racing outside laughing our heads off every time wondering if we were going to get blown away as we emptied some beer.  I think thats when we started singing, "the answer my friend is blowing in the wind, the answer is blowing in the wind........   LOL...........  Later on that night we were awoken by the sound of an animal growling/snarling on our deck.  Scared the hell out of us , that is after frantically trying to wake up my friend who was blissfully snoring away.   After many WAKE UPS!!!!!    were whispered shouted she finally woke up.  As we sat up in our bunks listening intently we thought it was either a bobcat or mt.lion , then suddenly we heard an awful cry of another animal as what ever the cat was, went after it.  Mind you this all happened right outside my side of the yurt next to my bunk. We listened for about 10 minutes as the "cat" had it's late night dinner wondering what we going to find outside the next morning and actually thinking about opening our door to peek outside.  Then suddenly we heard growling again and decided that was not such a good idea The following morning we did find "something" maybe blood stain on the deck with raccoon prints around it.  The grass was also pushed down about the size of what a mt. lion would be if he was laying down  in the wet grass.  Whatever happened, there were no remains to be found, thank goodness.   I don't think I could handle that first thing in the morning..

Night 2.    We had just came back from driving around exploring the area and  noticed we had neighbor campers up the road from us.  We were thinking, bummer we thought we had the place to ourselves, then BOOM!   we thought they were lighting off fireworks or something.  But as we listened more we realized it was guns being shot of.  We fly out the door and look towards the campers and see what looks like cars lined up next to each other up the hill with the headlights all on facing towards our site.  Can u say FREAK OUT TIME?  OMG!   It felt like we were in one of those slasher movies for a minute or two or three!   We paced back and forth trying to figure out what the hell was going while the sounds of gunshots were in the air.   After several minutes we put our brave faces on grabbed beers and our mace and headed towards where the campers were.  talk about feeling like fools,  it wasn't them.  They informed us there was a "redneck private shooting range"  up on the other side of the lake.  Those were their words not mine by the way.  It was all just an illusion from where our yurt was......   man that was a relief, all the while we were walking  up there we were trying to figure out what it was exactly we were going to do if it was some freakin weirdo's,  damn that was scary!!!    so now for the next 2 hours or so we got to listen to guns firing off spoiling the quiet night sounds.  We cursed them the whole time!!!     Finally they stopped, then it started to rain again............  So back inside the yurt we went and fell asleep to the sound of the raindrops overhead.

The next morning we went whale watching on a catamaran with only about 15 other people.  it was small and perfect.  Not one of the big boats with 30 or 40 people on it.   We sat on the front lounging back enjoying the ocean spray as we bounced over the waves heading out looking for whales.  The crew even had beer for us and music lightly playing.  So very relaxing....    After we finally got far enough out, about a 1/2 hour ride , we started to see whales in the distance.  eventually we saw some that were  a lot closer.  I had my video camera and was so excited I didn't hear what kind they were.   I caught bits and pieces of them on camera and I'm working on putting together the good parts I caught for you all to see.  I don't know when that will be, but I promise I will get it done, it was to cool not to share.
The following day we were back out on the pacific ocean on a larger boat headed out to Santa Cruz Island.  It takes about an hour to get out there and we saw a few dolphins on the way....  more on that later.    eventually we were dropped of at the island and had 4 hours to do whatever we wanted.  We picked a trail that was about a 4 to 5 mile hike and went on our way.   We didn't see any critters except for the one raven and a whole lotta scat on the trails.  But the views from the trails made up for that.  it was so quiet & peaceful out there, however I wish the trails didn't have so many hills because it kicked my butt!  My backpack weighed a ton but I trudged on, and on and on.....
After we finally finished our hike we walked the beach which was rocky looking for shells, didn't find any but I did find bones from something.....    Finally our boat came back to pick us up for the hour trip back, and what a ride that was...   We saw a HUGE pod of dolphins, there had to be  hundreds  of them.  Mom's jumping side by side with their babies was the coolest!   They followed us for a good 15 minutes before we had to head back to shore.  I don't remember what kind they were either as I was to excited once again catching them on camera.   I captured a lot on camera and want to add them to the whales I taped which hopefully will turn out really great!

Well my friends, that was the highlights of our trip.  The last 2 nights were spent at El Capitan Canyon in our safari tent.  Pretty much uneventful just a wind down time for us before we headed back to the real world.  We did enjoy an early morning bike ride down to the beach nearby before we headed home and walked on the beach looking for shells.  Then it was time to hit the road home.....................
hope this all made sense, its the third time I have attempted it and I finally finished it without it deleting on me once again.   Now its time for me to go feed the little ones, crack open a beer  and finally get some sleep.   will be making an attempt to catch up with everyone as soon as I can and post new pics of the wee furry ones of 2009!  hugs to all thanks for reading...................

Hi my friends,
Just letting ya all know I will be heading out of town on Sunday morning for my get away before babies arrive.  I have a feeling they will be arriving sooner because of the storms that are lining up in the pacific heading our way, 7 as a matter of fact.  On Sunday were suppose to have high winds and heavy rain which almost always means there will be babies & nests falling out of the trees.  I just hope people find them before its to late....  On another note lucky me & my friend get to start our drive in the storm.  Were heading to so. cal and the weather is set to be the same there so I don't think we will escape it.  So much for our plan to camp on the beach.  That is ok, will have fun in our yurt and safari tent.  it should be an interesting trip......   which they always are...........   C u all when I get back, promise to take pics for all to c......    have a happy valentines day everybody love ya all for being my friend................

Hi everyone,
I would like to introduce our new furry friend "Marleau."  He is named after Patrick Marleau who plays for the San jose Sharks hockey team.  We adopted him from a shelter that is about 10 miles from us.  He looked so sad in his photo on their site I just had to adopt him, so the next morning we were there when they opened and he was still available.  He now has his forever home.  Not sure what his breed mix is, they said he is a hound mix, about 9 months old and weighs 32 lbs.  He was found as a stray on the street and very scared and skittish of people they said, but that was ok with us.  I knew he just needed love and attention to earn our trust and in the last 2 weeks he has come a long way.
His first night here he sleep on the couch bundled up in blankets because we couldn't get him to come into our room to sleep.  He didn't budge all night, he was still in the same position  the next morning as he was when we tucked him in. But that changed the next night.
On his 2nd night in his new home he came into our room "doggie talking" so I thought he wanted to go out so I get up to let him out and when I stood up he jumps up into our bed and laid down,  it was so funny....   I was like alrighty then..LOL.....
Over the next few days he slowly came out of his shell.  We finally heard him bark ( was starting to wonder if he even had a bark LOL)  and he also likes to howl. He played with the bunny and taunted the kitties although the kitties showed him whose  boss in this house, but i'm sure that will change once they get use to his being around.
Well its been 2 weeks as of yesterday and he is like my shadow, goes to bed when we do with us, has never once peed or pooed on the floor, wakes us up if he needs to go out  at night and is a total bed hog.  Its tough sharing a bed with a hubby, a dog & 3 cats...   cats steal my pillows and puppy hogs the bed.  oh well, they make great bed warmers wouldn''t have it any other way, the critters that is...  LOL
that is all for now, heressssssssssss   Marleau...................

meet Marleau our new family memberMarleau Adopted from our local animal shelter
If pics are hard to see I put his photos in my furry friends pics section...

Grizzley crossed over the rainbowbridge last night  12/4 peacefully in his sleep. The house seems so empty without him, I miss his big loud bark sooooooooo  much.

12/13/08   last night my hampster lil' girl passed in her sleep.  She was about 2 yrs old, she was given to me when her person no longer could keep her about 1 1/2 yrs ago.

hello my friends,

I just wanted to let all know why I am feeling so sad these days. 2008 has been a tough year with my rehabbing and saying good-bye to my furry loved ones. I have lost my ratty Monkey, Charlie chinchilla, Niners kitty, kasey kitty, cougar kitty, and now I will be saying good-bye to my big lovable dog Griz. Monkey had a long life of 6 yrs, the damn heatwave this summer claimed Charlie, Niners lived a very long life of 20 yrs, my Kasey age 2 died under mysterious circumstances but I have my suspicions, Cougar age 13 died on Thanksgiving in between me giving him fluids and cooking dinner. Now Griz age 13 has that look in his eyes that says it is time to say good-bye and let him cross that rainbow to be able to play again. I am having such a hard time with it, but I have to remember its quality of life and his isn't good now. Once my hubby gets home from his business trip we have decided to let him go to the rainbow and its the waiting that is hurting because we both want to have his humans with him when he goes. So now U all understand why the sadness surrounds me. thanks for reading and being my wonderful friends.... Love Mama
