Vega Under Fire Interview
This interview is WAY over due! Sorry about that...we had trouble uploading the video so we had to transcribe it right off of the camera. Thanks to Kristen that finally got done! So...4 months later here is our interview with Vega Under Fire.
They've been our featured band for a while now so go check them out if you haven't already -
www. myspace. com/vegaunderfireVicky: How did you guys start to form the band?
Brad: This band started about a little more than 2 years ago. We all went to high school together and we were all in separate bands at the time. All of the other members of the bands were a little more serious members, I guess. We all just kinda started our own thing, called it Vega Under Fire and just started going on tour.
Ryan: We're always touching each other and stuff.
Brian: You always have to add that one.
Vicky: Who came up with the name Vega Under Fire and why?
Brad: I had this crazy dream… um, not really.
Jason: We're not allowed to answer that question.
Brian: Brad and I started off the band. We used to take music business classes with this, like, crazy teacher and we learned a lot from him. We kinda named it after him because he wanted to name the band "Heroes Under Fire" and we asked him about it—if it would be wrong—because there was a show called "Heroes Under Fire" and he answered with this crazy story about a car named Vega and like we kinda didn't pay attention to that… And we were just like Vega… Under Fire… And we're like oh, we like that.
Ryan: Sounds rad.
Jason: It's so insane, I can't comprehend it.
Vicky : So you guys have this EP that came out last year, right?
Brad: We actually have an EP that came out this May. It's our second EP and our first EP came out last May.
Vicky: Okay so the first one came out last year.
Brad: Yeah and we just released one.
Vicky: So how has the feedback been for that?
Brad: For our latest EP it's been good. We're currently an unsigned band right now on AP magazine… or, unsigned band of the month and our CD got us on the front page of purevolume and we got a lot of really good compliments and reviews. And I know it got us into venues like The Knitting Factory soooo rock out the city of New York.
Vicky: Do you have any plans for a full length?
Jason: Oooh that's a good question.
Brad: We're just gonna like tour our asses off on this EP and just see what happens.
Brian: I think a full length will come kinda once it's necessary, like if we have a label backing us or we have the time or like we have the money to record a full length, then awesome.
Jason: I think it's just like kinda weird to find a full length that like, every song is a hit single or awesome song. So we're just gonna take our time with it and not rush it to put out the full length. Not until we're ready to.
Vicky: How has this tour been?
Brad: It was awesome until today!
Jason: Not because of you guys!
Ryan: I think that's why we sound so like down.
Jason: Our van broke down.
We have a history…
Aaron: Every tour our van breaks down…
Jason: Yeah, every tour our van breaks down and this is our second van …
Aaron: …third tour …
Brad: …third big breakdown …
Jason: And our van breaks down all the time and right now it got towed, and we got ticketed, in New York City.
Brad: Yeah we have no van and no trailer right now, but we have clothes.
Ryan: I have clothes. I'm the only one that brought my suitcase.
Brad: Soooo, our van broke down earlier today as soon as we got into New York City, soon as we pull up to The Knitting Factory. Transmission failure and like 2G's we gotta drop on this van now.
Vicky: So what are you guys going to do?
Brad: We're gonna walk through the rest of this tour.
Ryan: With everything on our backs.
Vicky: [to Ryan] Well you're the only one who has your suitcase.
Ryan: Well we have Jason's too.
Jason: Yeah everyone always forgets about me.
Ryan: Yeah we're on tour right now with another band called The Appreciation Post and they're gonna help us out.
Jason: We appreciate them.
Vicky: What are your plans after this tour?
Brad: Well we're getting a new van and we're gonna go back out on tour in November.
Jason: Yeah we like to tour after tours.
Brian: And we'll come back to New York City again.
Brad: Pretty much we like touring, and it's fun and we like doing it so we're just gonna keep on doing it.
Vicky: Are you going to go out to the West coast?
Brad: West coast? Uhhh…
Jason: That's to be determined later.
Brad: Yeah let's get this van that was on this tour.
Aaron: Let's see if we can go this whole way first.
Jason: We would totally love to go to the West coast. It's just probably not in our best interest right now. The East coast is really where we're building ourselves up and we meet a lot of people in a lot of the same places but we're definitely building connections all over the states. So um, I'm sure you'll see us there eventually, California… and beyond.
Aaron: And beyond? Haha.
Ryan: Outer space. We'll be playing on the moon.
Jason: I should have said like Texas and beyond. The only thing beyond California is Tokyo so we'll be in Tokyo very soon.
Brad: Yeah we're gonna see everything under the sea.
Vicky: So do you guys have any crazy tour stories besides the van thing?
Vega Under Fire: Yeah we've got a lot of crazy ones.
Jason: Well I'll tell a recent one since we're by New Jersey. The other night we went to a… we were pretty much just trying to find a place to stay. We usually never get hotels or anything like that but we had an exception. We were all kinda sick. So we were in Trenton, NJ and we looked up a bunch of motels and just say okay we'll go here and stay real quick so we pull up to the place and as soon as we pulled up at 5 in the morning, every motel door there was opened up, cracked open looking at us, like staring at us.
There were two like black caddy's …
Ryan: Like "Drugs? Where?"
Jason: There's like a deal going down so I jumped out with my big gun and basically we got out of there really fast.
Brian: Yeah we just pulled in and pulled out.
Aaron: Anything called the Budget Inn isn't too promising in Trenton, New Jersey.
Ryan: No offense, Trenton.
Vicky: Where's your favorite place to play?
Brad: New York City.
Jason: The Knitting Factory!
Brian: Well, we haven't played there yet…
Ryan: We like playing in our hometown.
Brad: Our hometown is our favorite place.
Jason: Everyone comes out to our shows together, our family, our friends, and even new people, they always build us up. They come to all our shows, they support us so much, and it definitely means a lot to us.
Ryan: Shout out to Naples.
Jason: Shout out to Trenton.
Vicky: So what's the music scene like in Florida?
Brad: We're the only local band right now in our town but we just toured Florida for like two weeks straight so there's definitely a scene. It's definitely pretty big, you just gotta find all the kids and make sure you get them out to the shows. There's a lot of good venues and if you ever want to come to Florida let us know.
Brian: It's definitely like a north town. To come north and hit the East coast and the scene… it grows just the farther we go. There's like a lot of local bands that come out in this area.
Jason: Florida's also pretty big. It's like three states in one.
Vicky: If you guys could play anywhere you haven't before where would it be?
Jason: Hawaii
Brad: Japan, I like sushi.
Jason: Especially the African republic.
Ryan: Doing like a European thing would be cool.
Brad: I think Japan would be sweet because we've got the tallest one there [points to Jason].
Brian: And people love American bands there so I'm sure we'd be treated like kings. Shows are like 20 bucks there or something like that for tickets.
Vicky: If you weren't in a band what do you think you'd be doing?
Brad: Uhhh hating my life.
Brian: A fireman.
Brad: A fire woman.
Jason: I'd probably be a con artist if I wasn't in a band.
Brad: I'd be like an exotic dancer.
Aaron: I'd be lost.
Jason: You could be on "Lost.
"
Ryan: Is it my turn to speak? Because I really don't have anything. Probably go to school or something lame like that. I'd be a golf pro or I'd play hockey or something.
Brian: I'd be a professional ripstick-er.
Do you guys know what a ripstick is?
Ryan: Look it up.
Brad: We would show you but it was in our van that got towed.
Brian: It's like a skateboard but you like wiggle your feet and it pushes you.
Ryan: Like a snowboard.
Kristen: My brother's friend broke both his arms falling off one of those.
Vega Under Fire: Both of them?
Ryan: How does he wipe his butt?
Jason: What's his name?
Kristen: Brian
Jason: Shout out to Brian, because that sucks.
Vicky: Is there anything you'd like to add or say to your fans?
Brad: Go on iTunes, buy our album, so we can get back home.
Jason: Trenton, New Jersey, hope to see you again soon.
