Dudes,

As our 3rd album is in the works, and features a full band, we are taking some of the tunes LIVE with a rhythm section for the FIRST TIME EVER!  Joining us this coming Wednesday (11/4/09) at Luckey's Club in Eugene (www.luckeysclub.com) will be Eugene drummer Pat Reyhle and bass player Bret Wiedner.  These guys are adding so much to our sound it's borderline ridiculous!  Come hear us play some new ones and some old ones, as a FULL BAND.

We will be supporting our old friends from Lawrence, KS, COSMOPOLITICS.  These guys are touring the country and are ready to funkin' rock your face off!  Check them out www.myspace.com/cosmopolitics.

This is set to be a special evening of music, mid-week at one of the best lil' bars in the Great State of Oregon.  So, get out, come grab a pint, a couch or a pool table and rock out to some FRESH tunes!

Our second full-length album, "The Key" has been reviewed by the Eugene Weekly!  Just in time for our CD Release Party TONIGHT at Sam Bond's Garage in Eugene.  See the full text of the article below:

Forget-Me-Nots

Sometimes the most energetic and lively shows don’t come from a stage full of performers, but from just a couple of people playing together who really enjoy what they’re doing. It’s obvious that Forgotten Works falls into the latter category. The duo of David Norem and Dan Reyhle formed in 2005, and though it’s only been about three years, they’ve played all over Oregon and are celebrating the release of their second full-length recording, The Key. Both men play guitar and bass, sing and provide percussion, while Reyhle adds in mandolin. Don’t let that instrumentation trick you into thinking they’re a bluegrass band — these songs reach much further afield, the gestures sometimes grand; the palette sometimes poetic, sometimes sentimental; the melodies at times warm, other times jaunty.

On “Pincher & Scales,” the pair’s mandolin and guitar dance around each other like moths circling a campfire, while both trade off on the vocal delivery. “The Bridge” is an example of the slightly darker, more somber direction they’ve taken with The Key, sounding quite a bit like Crazy Horse-era Neil Young, with messy guitars that refuse to be pinned down. “Gold” is much softer, with a tone palette like its name, the colors of a sunset at the end of a warm day. “Western Horizon” is a short but stand-out track, with guitar work and harmonies sweetly reminiscent of Pete Krebs & the Gossamer Wings. Norem and Reyhle also provide visual interest along with their moody compositions; while on stage they are frequently accompanied by visual art such as paintings, videos and sculptures made by Norem. Forgotten Works and Jahmalia play at 9 pm Wednesday, April 22, at Sam Bond’s Garage. 21+. $4. — Vanessa Salvia

It really means a lot to us to be releasing this collection of songs.  Although our second record, this is the very first collection of 100% PURE Forgotten Works.  These are songs that have been cultivated by us as a duo, a team feeding off itself and getting stronger.  The Key is a representation of a certain level of comfort growing within this music and time for both of us.

That being said, making this record was really fun.  Explorations in the studio and more time on our hands (mostly) provided much room for new moods, tones and vibes.  This record may be a departure from our typical "acoustic music", as the songs have been given some sonic coloring.  The first song we have up, "The Bridge", is one of those songs.  The artwork for the disc package is amazing and really speaks for the tunes.

CD's and downloads will be available on CDbaby.com, and CD World in Eugene within days.  Availability on iTunes will follow.  We'll keep you posted with all the updates.

Thanks to Pat Reyhle for providing some more drumming on this one (check him out on "Only You", its frickin' awesome) and to Thaddeus Moore down at Sprout City Studios for mastering the shit out of it all.  And of course, our Lonely Room.  The walls are still shakin'.

Last night we played Luckey's again, and we relished every second! What a great show. Thanks to our friends who turned out and provided some excellent energy. Maybe it was the JD, but the show was hot! Luckey's provides us a venue to really rock out, and break the "acoustic duo" mold. Highlights were "The Rain" opener, which set the scene pretty quick. Other highlights of the night were songs off of the new release "The Key". "Find What You Seek" was played with intensity early in the set, with vocal harmonies strong and convincing. Another ripper was "Pincher & Scales", with a raging rock-out at the end.

We look forward to an opportunity to stay in the zone tomorrow night at the Loft (3/6). Come on down, we've got two sets to play and it's Friday night! We'll have more advance copies of "The Key" available.

We had another good show at Cozmic Pizza on Saturday.  Lots of rockin’ new tunes were played, as the set list was made up on the fly.  A fine-tuned version of "The Bridge" was played for the first time since its recording and it sounded great.  "Curl & Brace" closed the set with a HUGE sound.  Old favorites like "Rumi’s Tune" and "Last Days" were raged with a new energy that FW has been riding on since starting up work on the new record.

The next spring show will be this Thursday (4/3) at our favorite spot, the Wandering Goat (2nd & Madison) in Eugene.  Check it out as this is sure to be a KILLER show.  Beers, coffees, eats, tunes, peops....what more can you ask for?

yEs, we are.

In the studio recording our second album....working on some stellar music. We are cruising through an amazing musical timespan, as we are finding inspiration in our lives. Wonderful things are to come on this next collection of music. We are extremely excited about the continuation of this band.

We also are excited about the opening of Gallery Obscura in Eugene this coming week. Owned and operated by Dave (of FW) and his wife Mandy, it will be an incredible addition to the art scene, and at times an excellent place for live music. Be sure to check the place out, as it opens for Last Friday Artwalk this Friday (1/25) with a showing of Dave's paintings and sculptures, including art used for "Last Days of Smoke & Thunder". Gallery Obscura is on our top friends list.

Thanks for checking in with us. We hope to be playing some shows in Eugene this Spring, so keep an eye out.

Check it out!  Here's the review of "Last Days of Smoke & Thunder" from a November edition of the Eugene Weekly.

"Remember These Works

For many bands, making it past the second practice with the original lineup is a feat of endurance. Eugene band Forgotten Works has made it to the second year mark and is celebrating the occasion with an anniversary show at Wandering Goat Coffee House.

Forgotten Works, a duo of Eugeneans David Norem and Dan Reyhle, bills itself as "handcrafted acoustic music." The toddler-aged band has a grown-up four CDs to its credit: two live CDs, one from the World Café from July 2006 and one from the Downtown Lounge in May of 2006; Last Days, a 6-song EP released in March of 2006; and their first full length, Last Days of Smoke & Thunder, released in April of this year. These guys seem to have no problem writing material, as Smoke & Thunder is 13 tracks totaling more than 66 minutes. Their songs hover between Neil Young-ish jagged-edged folk rockers like "Thousand Points," which cribs a little lyrically from the master, to the Santana-esque flourishes of jazzy guitar and rhythmic percussion present on "Listen To Life." There's even some down-homey bluegrass on "To Your Own Self Be True."

One of the album's highlights, the five-minute "Rumi's Song," is an instrumental tune displaying Latin-tinged percussive elements. Placed midway through the CD, it's an airy counterpoint to the lyrical heaviness of the other songs. Norem (guitar) and Reyhle (guitar, mandolin) share singing duties and seem to have a stellar musical camaraderie. On Smoke & Thunder, the instrumentation that the pair doesn't handle themselves is augmented with Pat Reyhle on percussion and effects and second percussionist Parker Koehn. Here's to many more multiples of two-year anniversaries for Forgotten Works!

Forgotten Works plays at 8 pm Saturday, Nov. 24, at Wandering Goat Coffee House. Free. — Vanessa Salvia"

Thanks to the Weekly and everyone who came out to the Wandering Goat on 11/24 to celebrate our second year.  We have many to come.

Gracious,

FW

Our 2 Year Bash at the Goat was KILLER McDILLER! Great group of people and a HUGE performance from FW. The band celebrated 24 months with 24 songs on November 24. Tons of new material was introduced formally at the show. Many of these, including 'Curl & Brace', 'Find What You Seek', and Pincher & Scales' rocked with high-energy and fresh improv. But, with it being an anniversary show, the old tunes from the beginning of it all were golden, mostly an amazing rendition of 'Last Days'. The stage was decked out with artwork provided by Dave, and the second set was accompanied by a video of images shot for 'Last Days of Smoke & Thunder'. Cheers to 2 years and many to come!

We played at our good friend and collegue Thaddeus' 30th birthday at Cozmic Pizza in Eugene on Saturday. Thaddeus owns and operates Sprout City Studios, the lovely facility where we had "Last Days of Smoke & Thunder" mastered. FW played a loose set of music, determining the setlist on-the-fly.

Having so many friends and familiar faces in the audience was a huge plus, and kept the energy high on stage. FW ripped through a collection of favorites, including "Slope", "Listen", "The Rain", and a pleasant, jamless version of "A Song for Raptors (Keep it Buried)".

We had a KILLER time, as usual. Happy Birthday Thaddeus!
