staggering up the loose sand of the shore,
leaning into the night's wind, which is set on knocking me on my ass
like a brainless guard dog
but it doesn't know that its frigid chill is what will kill me.
it keeps trying.
this way, then that, i painfully grind my ankles trying to stay up,
stumbling over myself
nothing here wants me to live.

the ambassador of the human dna code
appears hundreds of millions of years early
and finds himself unwelcome on the shore of the primeval devonian sea

i glare up at those distant red mountains,
covered only in the most simple algae species
they should be eager to host such an advanced land creature
but they don't recognize me, i am ugly and alien to them
"stay away" they say, uninterested and stupid.

a misstep
i land hard on the cool, beady white sand.
i land right on the filthy shoulder stump where my arm used to be...
i cry, and the pit of the salt crusted wound opens up again.
dark, hot blood finds its way through the matted sand and salt
i know what this means, and i relax my neck a little

the sky is so black,
the stars are so, so bright

my slimy, dirty face glistens with my salt water tears
i swallow, my throat dried out by spicy sea brine,
my teeth clench, and bits of sand crunch in between

i couldn't afford to lose anymore blood three hours ago, when it happened,
so hot, so slimy, so red. lightning coursing through my brain.
i was past the threshold. but i just barely got it to stop in time.

but now,
now, my legs are cold rubber, my only arm is white marble
it pours out like liquid gold
i shiver so hard and fast, yet so small

human blood on the primeval shore

a cold wind washes over my body,
and i stop crying, because i stop breathing
looking up at the stars in the black sky

nothing notices.

worked on a new song today with the guys, and planned on seeing ponyo again in theaters.

plans fell through, and i ended up seeing district 9, looked interesting right? it was. it was also a really strange experience.

i rarely go to the movies, usually go strictly for a new pixar movie. ive got all of hayao miyazaki's movies along with the rest of ghibli's catalogue at home, so for me, im pretty solid (not to say thats all i watch, but its mostly it is)

the trailers began, and this strange feeling started. on this huge screen, huge speakers, trailer after trailer of this caveman lust for violence. this was the first time id really noticed it. when i was 13, i would have been thrilled to see this splatterfest... in the trailors alone, i probably saw 15 people killed as some sort of punchline to a joke. hmmm. now dont get me wrong, i have nothing against showing death in a movie, not at all. but what i saw was not real death. it was popcorn death, it wasnt real people getting decapitated, it was the equivalent of video game bad guys getting popped.

and this is strange to me.

in the movie (though not a horrible movie at all), the same sort of inclination was present. lots of people died, lots of aliens (who were presented as pretty much human) died. and these people were all "video game baddies" you know, the people you never meet, who pretty much just run at the hero with a gun, till they get their head blown off. who cares right?

exactly, we really dont care.

its almost more the careless script i have a problem with than the violence.

wouldnt you stop and think for a moment after killing 10 or so "bad guys" on your way to the castle, "wow, im really fuckin doing this arent i? i am actually taking human lives right now"

because really, if it really happened, these bad guys were once children, theyve been in love, they have a mother, maybe a kid. and you just killed 15 of em. really recognize that. and believe me you would if you just popped 'em.

thats a big deal. isnt it? you dont just walk away from that feeling okay.

again, by all means, kill them if theyre trying to kill you, if theyve killed good people,if they mean to kill your girlfriend,  but lets just acknowledge the gravity of the situation.

acknowledge that this "activity" is not something a sane person would go through, and then make a wise crack after he's piled up 13 bodies!

at least then, we might have a decent movie, AND we might not have this bizarre distorted view of warfare running rampant in our entertainment.

which i feel runs parallel to popular music, where the top played songs are shallow as a kiddie pool in the way they represent the dance club lifestyle. or in the current alt rock
 scene, self loathing.

i dont feel like im actually hearing a human bieng share his or her experiences or emotions, in the melody or lyrics. im just getting a blank faced zombie reciting the catchphrase of the day like a fucking burger king commercial. its not human, its like a victim of daytime tv telling you about there day.

anyway.................
if you want to see something sincere, and with true care put into it, and an actual regard for the experience of life, go see ponyo.
