Hola a tod@s desde Brooklyn !!! (English below)

We Are Balboa, siempre estará ahí, y quién sabe... puede que vuelva algún día... como dicen aquí: Who knows?

Hello to everyone from Brooklyn !!!

One of the things we most like is change, changes are always interesting and exciting.

Be it holidays, hotels (which are like temporarily changing homes), travelling, meeting new people, all these are changes and we love 'em!

We have decided to change towns, and have moved to NYC! The change is amazing, we have a new place, we are writing new songs, and we have met some incredible people to play with over here, so we have decided to change bands!

We have started a new band, and our new American adventure is called GOLD LAKE !!!

We Are Balboa will always be there, and who knows...we might bring it back to life again...

We want to thank all of you with all from the bottom of our hearts, for all the encouragement, support and your love! We have had a blast at all our concerts, and we still feel the energy you fed us close to our souls! We hope we will still have your support on our new endeavour, which is what helps us continue!

Please, head over to our new band, and add us as your friends!

www.myspace.com/wearegoldlake

We will soon add new songs. As a taste of the new things we have started to work on, we recorded an acoustic song which is already up on there! Enjoy!!

Sending you all our love from NYC,

Carlos and Lua,
Gold Lake

Oh history, sweet history...what would become of us without you ?!?

People ask us for some more "serious" info about us. We usually just stare blankly at them, wondering what they truly mean, because we are very formal indivuduals ourselves, but we thought that if we posted this blog with some our most oustanding achievements, then perhaps those souls would find their peace.

So here goes (this is the official bio our label usually sends out):

We Are Balboa have just finished recording a few songs off of their new material which will follow up their international debut album "Space Between Bodies"  produced by Jon Gray (The Zutons, The Subways, etc.)

"Space Between Bodies" did beautifully well in Spain, where it was distributed by PIAS, and was excellently received by both press and fans.

We Are Balboa started in 2003 when Carlos and Lua started to write songs together and began to look at music in a different way to that of other bands and music industry people in Spain. Whilst kids his age were listening to Europe, Carlos was devouring anything decent that fell into his hands from AC/DC to The Buzzcocks, from Johnny Cash to the Ventures, from Neil Young to The Jam or Blondie, imbibing every chord or melody that came out of his beloved vinyl player. When he met Lua, of British descent, they found in each other the soul mates they had always been searching for.
That same year they released an album with an independent Spanish label, when they were still called Balboa, which received all kinds of praises in their home country, and opened for various platinum selling bands in sold out venues, playing for 20,000 people, and played on many national tv and radio programmes.

Since then they met up with Jose and David, in the summer of 2005 and created We Are Balboa, setting out to rock the world with their luscious melodies and vigorous sound. They began their new sonic adventure by winning an important award in 2005 in Spain, which took them to London, where some friends of Jon Gray saw them performing at the Astoria and gave them his number. They soon got in touch and decided that making an album together was the greatest thing that could come out of this newly found friendship.
At the beginning of 2007, ITV chose their song, Space Between Bodies, from amongst 40 other British bands to play it on the Granada Soccer Tonight show.
In April, We Are Balboa landed in the UK ready for a tour which took them to venues such as Manchester's Academy 3 and Liverpool's Barfly, where they found the warmth of the English people and started to create a buzz.
During the summer, We Are Balboa played all the important festivals in Spain, and saw how the Spanish editions of Vogue and Elle recommended their album. All music radio stations played their music, as did the music tv channels with their video. .
November 2007 saw WRB fly back over to London, to play live concerts in famous venues such as the Dublin Castle and Bull and Gate, amongst many other places. We Are Balboa loves London and London seems to love We Are Balboa!

2008 sure seems to be We Are Balboa's year. It began with them flying to Holland to play at the famous Eurosonic festival, where bands such as Franz Ferdinand and Magic Numbers have played before. This concert has helped them get slots in festivals in Germany, Holland, England and Canada (NXNE)!

2009 also looks good as they have been asked to play CMW in Toronto in March!

We Are Balboa have supported many great bands such as The Sounds, Mudhoney and The Charlatans.

These guys will leave you totally hooked to their sweet melodies and powerful guitars, and will have you wondering why you haven't already tattooed their name on some part of your body!

Would you rather we synthesize it all into a neat list?

-Having their song Space Between Bodies chosen to be played on UK's ITV Granada Soccer Tonight programme.
-Opening for cool bands such as The Charlatans, The Sounds, Mudhoney, and other platinum selling artist which allowed them to play to 20,000 people audiences etc...
-Playing at the London Astoria.
-Playing at awesome venues throughout the UK! (such as Manchester's Academy 3, Liverpool's Barfly, Birmingham's Club Academy, London's Bull and Gate, Dublin Castle and Goonite Club, etc... which are the venues that saw then-small sized bands such as Blur, Oasis, begin their successful careers!)
-Having the amazing Jon Gray (The Subways, Radio 4, Editors, etc...) produce their album "Space Between Bodies".
-Getting this same album mastered by Kevin Metcalf (The Kinks, Supergrass, Oasis...)
-Being played on all the national radio and tv programmes worth being played on.
-Playing all the national radio and tv programmes worth playing.
-Being recommended by all music-oriented magazines in Spain.
-Playing at a ton of cool festivals, such as the Eurosonic Festival 2008 in Holland, and other great summer festivals at great slots, on just before bands such as The Charlatans, Primal Scream, etc...
-Being recommended by Vogue and Elle in Spain.

There are a few other things such as touring their asses off and other such beauties of being in a band, but what they most like is for you to listen to their music! So listen away!

About the album:

We Are Balboa have just finished recording what will be their international debut album "Space Between Bodies" with producer Jon Gray (who has also worked with The Zutons, The Subways, The Coral, etc...).

Twelve infectious rocking tunes which mix harsh sounding guitar riffs with a crunchy rhythm section and honey drenched female vocals which will make you want to drop it all and sing along to their songs at the top of your voice. Songs about love and aliens, uplifting tunes about erratic marriage proposals, and soaring melodies which depict places we've never been to before.

And here is what some press people said about our previous album:

NOVEDADES MAGAZINE Said: This band is one to keep a close eye on. They manage the perfect equilibrium (not always all that easy to find) between the mainstream melodies and their rockin guitar sound

EL PAIS "TENTACIONES" Said: Harsh guitars mixed with an angel-like voice could be the perfect combination that We Are Balboa seems to master

MONDO SONORO Said: One of the freshest and inspiring sounds we have heard coming from Madrid. We Are Balboa deliver a vigorous sounding Pop which remind us of the best McDonald brothers (Redd Kross) albums.

POPULAR 1
In the current times of musical shortage We Are Balboa save the day
The outcome is direct, fresh and contagious. The song which gives title to the album is a wise combination of melodies (with Lua's angelical voice) and original guitar riffs (by hand of Carlos del Amo) which excellently define what We Are Balboa are, but we're not talking about a one-song band, the end result is lavishly solid and we can enjoy tracks such as "Wink," the explosive "Down" or the intense "Some Places". We have at long last found a band that can climb the hit lists!
7.5 stars

EP3/EL PAIS (Nº1 National newspaper)
The changes in name and band members really do suit We Are Balboa, who have automatically evolved from being a band to "keep a look out for" to a real band. They have completely found their sound and the way to enhance the melodies with her spectacular voice and his amazing pounding guitars.

METROPOLI/EL MUNDO (2nd most important National newspaper)
We Are Balboa, the most international band !!!
With a change of name (Balboa was already taken by a Philadelphia Hardcore band) Carlos del Amo and Lua Rios' band have released their album filled with the classic (and still inmensly magical) formula of srtong guitars plus melody. Powerful and shameless, these guys drink both from Fountains of Wayne's power pop (even their label's name is taken from one of their songs) and Ash's nineties rock. They are one of the most "exportable" bands in this country. Keep a close eye out for them.

ROCKZONE
Good music, that's what We Are Balboa do !!!
I don't think I'd be at all mistaken if I were to say that We Are Balboa is one of the most interesting national newcomers. What's more, I would be lying if I were to say that I didn't fall totally in love with them from the very first time I listened to Space Between Bodies. My weakness towards them is a result of twelve fantastic tracks which radiate freshness and naturalness from every note and which plead to be sung along with. A formula which seems to be an absolute success with Carlos' excellent song-writing and guitars and Lua's admirable voice, which collects the strength and sweatness necessary to provide the band with an overflowing personality and a compact rhythmic section, by the hands of Jose and David, who recorded the tracks at the same time and in one go, which underlines the spontineity and imediacy of their sound. Rock and pop in complete equilibrium, guided by Jon Gray's production and mastered at Soundmasters Studios by Kevin Metcalf. Songs, like the one which gives title to their album, or the adictive "Some Places" or "Wink", prove that these guys have nothing to envy of international bands. They have achieved the difficult task of crossing the channel and begin to conquer the English audience, having played at the London Astoria. There are many factors which influence the rise of a band and that they may reach their aims, but the most evident one is to make good music. Which is just what We Are Balboa do.

CALLE 20
Space Between Bodies: powerful guitars in an amazingly rounded song which gives title to their album.
This album is turning point of a new era for this band, with Carlos' stong chords and vigorous choruses and Lua's voice, which she can use in any way she pretty much wants to. To chose any one of these songs as a favourite is complicated, but perhaps one could fish out Flavour, Its All Been Done, Don't Make me Waste my Time and Some Places (which should clearly be the next single) as front-runners.

NXNE!!! We Are Balboa Loves Toronto!!! Photos,etc...

Our week in Toronto has been, without a shadow of doubt, the best we have lived as We Are Balboa. The concerts we played, the marvellous people we met, the incredible and welcoming city of Toronto and the amazing experience of being part of the NXNE Festival, all made it an unforgettable week. It was an inmense pleasure to play there!

We hope you'll enjoy looking through our pictures and reading about the stupid things we got up to, and perhaps get an idea of how it all went for us in the wonderful country that we have found Canada is!!Many kisses and all our love,
WE ARE BALBOA

Besos!

The flight from Madrid to London went smoothly, and very comfortable thanks to our previous on-line check in ;-) and so, after a while in Terminal 4 at Barajas airport, our debate about the dollar fluctutations which had us in stiches for hours, seemed at every passing minute a little more ridiculous. You see, some of us had changed the money the week before and the exchange rate was far better when we got to the airport, but that made us spend quite some time calculating our loss and throwing figures back and forth as if we were millionaires talking about the price of gasoline!

David and Jose in the airplane on our way to Canada...Jose was doing the piticli (those who watch Muchachada Nui on youtube will know what we are talking about...) and David was frantically trying to fight against his complete fear of flying (you've got to feel sorry for the poor dude, 13 hours with a panic stricken heart is not easy!), and on this flight he managed to subdue his taquicardia to a minimum level...well done!!

And this is Carlos and I, acting all professional! A hat is always a great thing to use a "please don't bother me miss/mr flight attendant" sign. ;-)

This is a cool pub, where we took refuge from the brutal thunderstorm on the night we arrived. It was great cause it was pouring with rain and with tons of lightning going off every other minute, but it was really warm, so you could sit on the terrace, under the awning but not feel cold at all! We were really tired from the trip over, but it was such a great, refreshing moment, and we were greeted by a great and very pretty waitress, so all in all, it was an amazing welcome to this incredible city!!!

And what can we say about the amazing Chris and his incredible band White Cowbell Oklahoma...We've made a friend for life with him and he was soooooooo outstandingly generous and helpful to us right from when we first found out we were playing at the NXNE! Thanks so much Chris, you are the best! We hope we'll see you soon!!

Gracias Chris! A ver si nos vemos pronto amigo!

The Horseshoe Tavern Logo, the venue where we played the first night, invited by renowned DJ Dave Bookman. The Police played here for the first time and apparently there were a total number of 20 people! We had a few more come to ours, and it was a really special concert for us, because it was our first concert in Toronto and because we finally got to meet some of the people we had been talking to via e-mail for the last couple of weeks, as was the case with Chris from WCO and Akira from Modernboys Moderngirls, who had come over to give us their support and warmth. Playing in such a legendary place was also pretty exciting. But unfortunately we have no pics of that night because we all left our camera's at the hotel...duh!!!

This is the store where we rented some of our equipment, expect Carlos' amp which we got from the another great place called Mostly Music Backline. As you all know, Carlos plays with vintage amps only, and preferably Vox AC30s.

That same afternoon, before our soundcheck at the Horseshoe, one of the most important radio DJs in Canadian radio, Dave Bookman invited us for an interview on his programme, seeing as the concert we were playing that night was part of the shows he organises on Tuesdays called "Nu Music Night". It was a real honour to play on that night and we shared the stage with the likes of Sebastian Granger from Death from Above 1979. And going to his radio show was marvellous!

This is us getting to the radio station, which is right on street level. It was an unforgettable experience and it gave the boys a chance to show of their much polished English!!! ;-)

And here we are with Dave behind us, getting ready for our interview, just before our first concert at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern.

This is Carlos at the radio station, waiting to be interviewed by Dave Bookman. Funnily enough, bothe Jose and David took the picture at the same time, so here are both angles of the same moment!!!

The next morning we headed over to the Holiday Inn, where the NXNE had set up its headquarters for the duration of the festival. All 500 bands had to come out there to pick up our priority passes and thus have a chance to chat to the people at the organisation and see how it was all set up. It was amazing to see how well organised it was and how un-stressed people were. Its the same story every time we leave Spain, the people working at the festivals seem to have it all under control and don't have to get all overexcited and stressed-out! There were no lines, and there were a load of stands set up to sell screen print posters and other such magnificent art forms!

And here are two beautiful volunteers at NXNE, both of them super sweet (which as you may have noticed is a common trait of the people of Toronto!) but we mainly talked to Erika, the one on the right, whom we bumped into at more than one party...hhahahaha...

Here we are just after an interview for a music TV channel in Toronto! We imagine the video must be up on internet somewhere!!

This is Carlos and me with the incredible miss Gillian, who helped us a lot at the NXNE festival. We had a couple of drinks here and there with her at a couple of parties and she was a load of fun to hang out with...

That afternoon we went to walk around the city and do a little shopping (and when we say that we went shopping, we mean that DAVID, who had flown over with every intention of buying out the entire town of Toronto, almsot clean-wiped every store. Paris Hilton is a sissy compared to David, he'd win the match anytime with closed eyes...bring it on Paris...hahaha).
And look what we found rummaging for rare vinyls (which is a sport the boys always take to whenever we leave Spain)! It reads: "Bravo! The boys from Spain". We couldn't believe it!!!

And that night, Carlos and I went to The Mod Club, which is an incomparable venue where some of the most amazing bands have played, to watch The Stills live...we were really looking forward to it and may we say...what an amazing show! Absolutely superb sound, great songs and excellent performers!
By the way, we got into all the shows for free showing our cool NXNE pass!!!

The Stills in action. They were one of the best shows we went to watch together with Redd Kross, Fox Jaws (what an increadible band!), Modernboys Moderngirls, Two Hours Traffic and White Cowbell Oklahoma. We missed out on a whole load of concerts we know we would have loved, but there was no way we could divide ourselves into so many pieces!!!
The Still had the best misenscene by far, great lights, amazing sound and a great show all in all!

And after The Stills' concert we took a taxi to the Palais Royale, to the North By Northeast 2008 opening party. What an amazing party. We were invited to it by the great Mary Zondanos, and it was a lot of fun...It was by the Lake Ontario shore, where we could see Toronto's skyline reflected on the water, great music, pretty gals, free food and drinks, what more can you ask for?!?

At the NXNE opening party...Oleeee

Next morning we went out for a walk and grabbed a copy of the NOW Toronto newspaper, to check out our ad, advertising our 4 concerts in Toronto. That ad was there for two weeks and it was great to see it in the pages of such a cool newspaper (its the equivalent to the Village voice in NY or the Time Out in London).
But to our sweet surprise we had been included in the list of the recommeded bands to watch out for at the festival! Yoohooo!!

Carlos infront of a NXNE poster...perhaps we could get Rayban to sponsor him, don't you think?

We Are Balboa with the cool Akira!!! Akiraaaaaaaaa we love you!!!
This was taken right before our show at Holy Joe's and we were having a drink with Akira who came along to watch us that night!! He was just the greatest! We are looking forward to seeing you again!!

Y aquí estamos We Are Balboa y Akira!!! Que bien nos lo hemos pasado! Akiraaaa

And this is Carlos with our new and amazing friend Akira again. He's a great guy and the main man behind the excellent band Modernboys Moderngirls! We will certainly keep in touch with him cause we had so much fun with him and he was sooo sweet to us...this picture was taken after our last concert at El Mocambo, at the NXNE's closing party!

This redheaded, grey-eyed beauty is Allison, who does backing vocals in Akira's band. She was a lot of fun and we had some laughs with her and Akira.

Akira, our dearest and cool friend in Toronto, invited us to a barbacue at his house, and he made all kinds of efforts, like getting some veggie burgers for Carlos and I. A few of his friends were there and we all had a laugh in the summer sun. Thanks soooooo much Akira! Our visit there was made even better having met you!!
This is me, cutting some tomatoes for the grill! Yummy !!

After spending some time on Akira's roof-top terrace, we decided we had to do something really turisty and so we walked to the CN Tower!! Its the tallest building in the worls and its 553 meters high (1,815Ft)! So up we went, all 447 meters (which is the highest point visitors can get to)...and we shot up in a lift in 58 seconds. Pretty cool!

David wondering why, oh why had he come up to the CN tower with us! Hitchcock used him as inspiration for his famous film Vertigo...

David pensando ¿porqué habré subido a la torreeeee? Hitchcock se inspiró en él cuando hizo... Vertigoooo... jarl!

Blowing in the CN Tower wind...

David, still "happily" enjoying his visit to the CN Tower!

David sigue disfrutando de la CN Tower...

The view from the top of the CN Tower...and "surprisingly" enough one can see all of Toronto (and as far as New York State on the other side of the lake) !!!

The four of us at the very top of the CN Tower...

Oh, the laugh of the simple-minded...hahaha...we almost peed our pants!!!

Esa sección rítmica siempre a punto...jajaja

We loved Toronto so much that we tried to become Canadians, pretty dumb ones, but we certainly tried to fit in !!! Hahahahaha...What style, huh? Watch out, you might see other bands such as the amazing OK Go guys picking up on our smooth style!!

Carlos taking pictures to try out his camera! These are some of the goodies we had in our room in case we didn't get up in time for breakfast downstairs!!

Carlos trying out his new camera in our hotel room...the hotel was ace, thanks Rosa!!!
After he took this picture we had to head out to play our second show, an out-door concert set up in one of the biggest squares in Toronto!!!

Our artist passes laid upon a Neil Young album. We placed them together in case Mr. Young would hand us over a little of his good vibes, and it worked!! It certainly felt great to have them both!

This is our merch stand at Younge and Dundas square, which is a kind of Times Square or a Picadilly in Toronto. The organisation and the sweet Mary Zondanos alloted us a space to set up our goodies and David stands proudly next to the table we put together...;-)

It worked out real well, cause we set up in the morning and got to share with some great bands, amongst which our great friend from Escalade who kindly took over our stand whilst we were up on stage. Thanks so much for your help, ! Plus we sold out our albums!!

This is the only pic we have of our concert at the Younge & Dundas square (thanks Zack Vitiello from Chart Attack. And if you want you can click on this link to read a review of our show there: http://www.chartattack.com/DAMN/2008/06/1403.cfm). It was really, really, really hot. Who said Canada was a cold country? Damn them, they were wrong! Their summers are just as hot as the ones in Spain! Plus the warmth of its people would have made up for any hypothetical real cold weather!

After playing at the Young & Dundas square waiting for a taxi to take us back to our hotel!!!

During the 4 days of the festival, these cool vans drive around the city, and you can hop on to listen to good music on a sofa and they hand out goodies...

The people of Toronto...what warm hearted people with such rich souls! Lovely, quiet and well-mannered...just great!
Here's a pretty Torontonian girl, placidly sitting on her porch, you can almost touch the relaxing atmosphere!

Tim Burton could have taken this photo! Look at the tree behind Carlos' hair, it seems as though it grows out of his head!! Hahahaha
The street behind this fantastic image is Queen Street which we travelled on many a time throughout the whole week and where the majority of the venues adhered to the festival could be found.

And so Saturday crept up on us unexpectedly, time speeding by as it usually does when you're travelling and the date of our official showcase was here! It was our third show in the city and we were really looking forward to playing at this venue!!
Crossing the street towards the Holy Joe's, where we had an amazing time!

Holy Joe's just before our turn to take the stage! We played after a cool and very sweet band from Toronto which sure know how to make you shake your bones, called Dance Yourself to Death!! The place was packed, which made us sigh with relief having seen some half-empty venues the night before...so we were happy!
Playing that concert was incredible. It was really hot, totally packed and we gave it our everything! Here's a review of that night:
http://www.soundproofmagazine.com/Canada/NXNE_2008/NXNE_2008_We_are_Balboa_Holy_Joes.html

http://www.soundproofmagazine.com/Canada/NXNE_2008/NXNE_2008_We_are_Balboa_Holy_Joes.html

Jose smoking his victory drag after an intense show...keeping an eye on our equipment, though it was practically unnecessary to do so, cos this city is the safest and most honest we've ever been to...

The morning after, and the music must carry on...
At the hotel entrance, goofing around as usual.

A la mañana siguiente seguía el rock!!! ;-)

Interesting, huh?!?

Curioso cartel eh???

And so, our last night arrived (snif snif) but it was going to be an explosive end to a great week and festival!
The NXNE organisation had chosen 3 bands to play at their good-bye party at the legendary club El Mocambo. And they called us!!! ;-)

It was a very special party for us cause the majority of the people there were volunteers who had worked their ass off, helping the festival to turn out as well as it did!!! We were pleasantly surprised to see that the organisation has that kind of nice gestures with those who work there just for the fun of being part of an important festival..and we were so happy that we were one of the three bands amongst the 500 who were playing NXNE!
I take this chance to thank Crispin, Mary, Gillian and everyone at the organisation who were so kind and so lovely to us...you guys are ACE! THANKSSSSS !!

Vaya tela!!! :D

And to top the night off, we would be heading out to the Gibson after party once our show was over!!!

The four of us atop the El Mocambo stage, where Devo played in 78, Lou Reed in 79, The Rolling Stones in 77, and others such as Blondie, Police or the Ramones, just to mention a few...

Carlos and I playing Loved and Lost, which we always love playing in our concerts. Gives us a moment to breathe a little in the middle of our energetic set!

David coming "from THE hell" at El Mocambo, reducing his drum sticks down to smithereens.

Aquí David "directamente from THE hell" dando cerita en el Mocambo!

Jose, with his rented black Fender, the all-around-Interpol-look...! Check out the amazing SVT Ampeg that the festival provided us with for our concert!!

Carlos with the sweet Les Paul that Gibson lent us! Thanks Raquel !!! ;-D

Thanks Raquel!!! :D

Más fotillos del bolo...

Me, with the SG Gibson lent Carlos. I was so happy to play with such a great guitar. Mine is an excellent one too of course. Mine is also SG and if anyone has ever noticed it has mother of pearl moons all along the neck, matching my name! Carlos gave it to me as a present a few years ago! I'm a lucky gal, oh yes!).

This was taken at the entrace of Gibson's after party. We were invited by the lovely Tina and the great Brad from the Gibson office in Toronto and it was a wonderful end to our amazing trip.
Just imagine...us surrounded by tons of guitars hanging from the walls, drinks and food wherever your eyes went, beautiful girls and boys and a band playing some covers! And all this after our show at El Mocambo.
To top it up we met up with the cool and sweet guys from The Vibrants, and talked, drank and danced to the wee hours of the morning with them and Akira. Quite a handy thing too, cause Carlos brought back the guitars he'd been lent instead of having to rush them over the next morning on our way to NY!!

Well, we think it's pretty clear to all the INCREADIBLE time we had in Toronto!
We will always cherish this week of constant fun and all the warmth we received from everyone in that outstanding city!
We made new friends, and we hope we'll be able to meet up with them soon again, and share some more laughs!
We tried to play our best shows and give back some of the love we were gladly obtaining from these wonderful people!!!

Its more than safe to say...WE ARE BALBOA LOOOOOVES TORONTO!!!

Thanks to you all,
All our love,
WRB

We Are Balboa Loves Toronto!!!

Gracias a todos!
Besos!

SUPPORTING THE CHARLATANS AT JOY ESLAVA, MADRID (PHOTOS)
WE ARE BALBOA CON THE CHARLATANS EN EL TEATRO JOY ESLAVA, MADRID.

Photos: Blanca del Amo.

This is the Joy Eslava in Madrid, an amazingly beautiful venue! And even more so when there's a full house!! We were supporting the ever-cool and inspiring Charlatans! How cool is that! Almost as cool and sweet as they are!!
And seeing how people were enjoying our set was also pretty incredible, of course!

Que bonita es la Joy !!! Y si está llena... mejor! ;-)

This picture, and all the ones bellow, was taken by Blanca (WRB's official and highly sexy photographer!). Thanks for them all, Blanca...

Carlos seems to be enjoying his "Black Beauty" to the maximum, and that night, as always so did the rest of us...

We love this venue's boxes, all golden and theatre-inspired. In fact, this used to be a theatre before the war. For those who haven't been to any other venues in Spain, they won't be aware that these types of pretty and ornamented venues aren't common around here!

Jose with his new skinny jeans. A great change, much better indeed! ;-)

What an incredible photo! Great light! Blanca at her best again!

Otra vez Blanca triunfando!

Huge Hammond! The Charlatans brought it over with them from the UK, together with 2 humungous leslies!

David playing his guts out as usual...but check out his ace 60's Ludwig drum kit! We are in love!!

This is a great angle!

Otra desde atrás, mola!

One taken from above, from one of the boxes...this way you can see all our backline, and our logo on the bass drum...but the best thing is that you can see Carlos' white shoes! What a dandy!

Black Beauty + White Leather Shoes...oh yeah...sweet !!!

What she laughing at? Messing up the lyrics again, are we darling? LOL

¿De que se estaría riéndo Lua...? Se le olvidaría alguna letra? jeje...

Well, thats it for now! Those of you missed this show, or need a little more rock in your body, if you live in Madrid, don't miss out on getting a ticket for our show at Moby Dick on the 24th of April !!!
All our love
We Are Balboa

The feeling you get when you're on your way to the UK to play a few shows is one of the most thrilling we've felt yet, and those are the kind of emotions that keep us going.
So, here we are at Terminal 4 in Barajas Airport, ready to spread a little of our rock'n'roll loving in the islands where "almost" everything began !!! We've been praying to the Gods in all deities that the airline people won't make us check our guitars in !!! Oh please, please, please !!!

Argh!

This is the train which takes you to the plane, and it's pretty clear where David's nuts have migrated to inside his body at the mere thought of having to get on the plane (he's been worked up about it all week !!! Poor thing !!!)

Blanca, our fantastic and most beloved personal photographer, who also happens to be my lovely sister. Thanks to her you'll be able to look at all these cool pics which illustrate the amazing times we had in the UK. Thanks sis, we are soooo grateful !!! Plus the laughs we had with her are priceless !!! We love you. This was taken on the layover in London on our way to Manchester !!!

Here we are with Guy Lovelady, our good friend in Manchester and the Master of ceremonies who organised the whole tour !!! Seeing as we new that what he loves most is his sweet daughter, Ella, music and football, we bought him an official Real Madrid t-shirt signed by all the players in the team !!! He was absolutely gabberflasted, of course !!! ;-)

Yeah !!! We're finally in Manchester !!! And its night time !!! This us goofing around !!! Manchester is amazingly beautiful.

Ya estamos en Machester!!! Y es de noche!!! Yeeeeepa! Aquí estamos haciendo el gamba...

The next morning, and seeing as we had two days off before our first gig in Birmingham, a part of the band decided to visit the ITV Granada tv studios where our song, "Space Between Bodies" has been played on the runner ups of the football league.

To buy vinyls in Manchester is almost a compulsory thing to do !!!

Walking through Manchester's shopping area of town. David is once again "out of this world" as he so often is !!! hahahaha

Drinking a few pints near the river. David is about to receive a "del Amo" pat !!! Band stuff !!!

Day 2: Having breakfast at the all original Koffee Pot, neat our hotel, where many up and coming bands have played acoustic shows. The View have a promo pic taken at this very same spot...the owner has just recognised us. We were going to have played an acoustic set ourselves, but our schedule was too tight, so we're definitely coming back to play it soon !!!

Another picture with Guy, what a top man !!! We adore him !!!

Otra foto con Guy, que buen tipo!

Two Pretty Ladies !!! Spanish flavour's in the air !!!

Las 2 chicas guapas del viaje!!! Que vivan las españolas!

Acting the tourist isn't a bad idea every now and then, plus being one in Manchester is ace, cause its such a beautiful city with so much going on !!! Here we are at the Cathedral.
Our first show is quickly approaching and we just can't wait ... Birmingham here we come !!!

On the night of our first show, the Kings of Leon were playing next door, at the Academy (we were playing a the Academy Club), but even so, dear friends, people still came to our show !!! It's amazing how in the UK people go watch bands they don't know, and are so interested in finding new music and bands !!! Its sooooo cool !!!

And this is us rocking to the heart beat of Birmingham !!! We had a ball !!!

After the show, sweaty t-shirt included, we put our gear outside the venue and waited for our van to come pick us up !!! Unfortunately one of our bags was stolen with 400 euros worth of equipment in it inside the venue that night. But, I guess that just comes along with life on the road !!! We must continue our tour though, so we just try to salvage the loss by having a great time on the rest of the gigs !!!
Next, Manchester Academy 3, a cool venue where the likes of Maximo Park, The Rakes and Spinto Band have played ... here we go !!!

The Rakes a Spinto Band... here we go!!!

The next day at the sound check. Guys, if you ever play in the UK you cannot be late for the sound check, not even 10 minutes, cause they won't let you do it. We were late against our will, but it just works differently than in Spain, so this is the moronic face you're left with when they tell you you're not sound checking !!! You can cut the tension with a knife ... hahahha !!!

But, we had a plan !!! Here, in our backstage area, we decided that if we had all of our stuff (guitars, pedals, drum equipment, etc...) all ready next to the stage 10 mins before our change over time, then we could quickly get our things on stage in
5 mins and at least get a decent line check (which means you make sure it all works) and get the great Manchunians to listen and watch one of our best shows ever !!!

Acting like idiots before going onstage is the best medicine against the butterflies you get in your stomach when not everything has gone as planned and you're not sure if it will all turn out ok !!!

But what a show we played !!! All our fears vanished in a quarter of a second and we had an amazing time and played our souls out !!! Who needs to sound check when you've got your sound and songs down to the nitty gritty !!! The stage was perfect, we could hear ourselves perfectly, and the people watching us were absolutely incredible !!! We've still got some of the comments they left us after the show on our comments pages telling us how much they loved our show !!! We send them all our love and thanks !!! Even the sound man came over after our set and told us he had loved it. Perhaps next time he'll let us sound check !!! LOL ;-)

Here we are on a double decker bus on our way back to our hotel after playing in Manchester at the Academy 3 !!! What an amazing feeling when you've played a great show !!! Manchester was all ours that night...look at our beaming faces !!! ;-)

Next day Lua and got up mega early (after having gone to bed at the wee hours of the morning), and went to get some promo done at ALL FM Manchester Radio. The great Mog interviewed us, which was great in itself, and we played a few songs on acoustic guitars !!! The initial plan was to have gone to Caroline Rennie's Wednesday show, but unfortunately she broke her ankle and so she had to cancel. We send her all our love and we hope she gets better soon !!! Mog was the coolest, though, and we had a real good laugh. All Fm is a great radio station cause they help out in the Manchunian community with all kinds of things as well as playing all kinds of music from all over the world !!!

Buen rollo!

Today...Liverpool !!! On our way to the city which gave birth to the "Fab Four" our whole tour completely made sense to us !!! And driving into the city with a slight drizzle, listening to "Blackbird" makes the experience all the more special. This is the city where it all changed, where music became what it is today. We can still feel the goose bumps !!!

We've finally arrived at the Barfly in Liverpool, another great venue where we have to give it all !!!
Here we are before we got off the van, and guess what...we didn't get to sound check here either...hahahha... and this time it wasn't our fault !!! But I guess we just don't need to anyway !!!

This was our last show of our tour, Liverpool was our last stop. It was a very special night for us, we knew we were heading back home in a few days and we wanted to make the most of this experience while it lasted. There were some real good moments during this show. People seemed to really like it !!! This is Lua belching it out as usual !!!

Another tourist shot before going back to Spain...

Otra foto de turista antes de volver a Spain...

We continue to act like total idiots in this wonderful island...
Next day we would head out to London to spend our last day in the UK there, shopping and what not !!! It has been an amazing experience and we have lived it so intensely it seemed we had been there for a month instead of a week !!! The Uk is now a part of our battlefield and we will be back in the autumn to play some more shows !!!

We love you UK !!!

WE LOVE UK!

Maaike and her team are also great at finding juicy things out about us so, they have started a forum where you'll be able to meet other lovely people and talk about rock and gossip about us, (yeah, we know what you guys get up to when we're not looking, hahahahaha).

So go and check it all out and have fun with people from other countries !!!
You never know what hotties and interesitng indivuduals of the human species stand in the shadows of the internet...you might even find the love of your life and then we'll have something to talk about in our interviews..."yeah, well these two people met in a forum talking about what a scortching guitar riff we had added to one of our new songs and they then saw they were made for each other and bla bla bla..."
Think about us, we need to sound cool and merely interesting in our interviews...hahahahahaaha

Anyway, go check them out and have fun...

All our love,
WE ARE BALBOA

Hi everyone!

We have just come back from playing some amazing shows and having the time of our lives in Toronto ! You will soon be able to read the tour blogs we put together for the occasion, but we'll tell you right here and now that we had the best time we have had in a looooooooooooong time!

As many of you know, it has been quite some time since we were able to enjoy some time off from all our concerts and travelling, so you might be wondering why we are not playing any shows!

Fear not! We will be uploadig some dates in September, in time for you all to rush off to get some tickets, but for the time being we are going to be...
...laying back on the beach for a few days!!!

...and...after we've had a bit of a cooling off period, we'll get back to work on our new songs! Many of you have heard quite a few of them live, but those songs still need working on to get them up to the maximum level of perfection! Plus, Carlos has tons of new songs we have to put together and get them ready to show everyone at our next shows!

So, we hope you'll be patient with our little hide-out and we will be looking forward to seeing you all after the summer!!!

All our love,
WE ARE BALBOA

WE ARE BALBOA

We hope we can see you many more times and share even more and better moments !!!

I Know Some Things", efectivamente

MOBY DICK CONCERT PICS !!! MAny thanks to everyone !!! :D

Photos: Blanca del Amo.

Hola a tod@s!!!

Estuvo genial!!! Sois los mejores!!! :D

Hi Everyone !!!
After having sent out bullentins warning those in Madrid that the tickets for our show were quickly being sold, here's proof of that happening! It's Tick Tack Ticket's (an on-line ticket agent) Web a few days before the show where it says that We Are Balboa's show is almost sold out!! And it was amazing!! You guys are all the best!! :D

Aquí salís unos cuantos, a ver si os reconocéis!!! jaja

You might recognise yourself in this pic !!! hehehe

Lua taking in in the good vibes of playing back at "home". (Blanca, as usual your photos are increadible, thanks sis!)

A little acoustic never hurt anyone! And this set was great! We had a great time playing it. Plus there were some totally fresh out of the oven songs which we played in this acoustic set which we had never played live before! ;-)

Josete, apretando muelas y gozándola también!!! Piticli bonico!

Jose, feeling it to the max!!!

A sus pies señores!!! Con zapatitos blancos... of course!

At your service ladies and gentlemen! But never without my white shoes...of course!

Impresionante foto Blanca!!! Lúa parece un ángel!!!

Amazing picture Blanca! Lua looks like an angel !!

David about to set the stage on fire !! And with Loreto's hair cut it all looks much better!

Dear Lord, My Taylor sounds sooooooo sweet!! Playing the acoustic set just keeps on getting better! Though we do love our serving of roughness and dirt, FEAR NOT!

And we bid you good-bye with a photo of Lua which pretty much sums up how magical the night was, and how AWESOME the audience was. You guys are great! Thanks! Nothing beats playing at home!

Canadá, here we go!!!

Many thanks to everyone who came and gave us all their love!!! For the time being...we're off to TORONTO !!! Canada, here we come !!!
