Bands AMYS GHOST/ATTENTION THIEVES/GARAGE THIEVES/QUIET QUIET BAND

Where as other local band nights claim that they have wall to wall
A&R/music industry types at their gigs.We have and do attract them.
Over the years we have had every major record company A&R type at our
shows;not just scouts-but the ones with the real power, the ones that sign
the pieces of paper. We have had managers who reprsent
The Libertines, Radiohead, Charlatans, Mogwai, David Gray, Damien Rice
and even Samatha Fox.Independent labels, publishers, agents, record producers and
numerous media darlings. Does it matter? In the scheme of things probably not
really, but it does happen at Club Velocity.

AMYS GHOST
Amy’s Ghost a newly formed multi-talented band from Reading fronted by singer/songwriter Amy Barton, whom allow themselves to run wild and free from the ashes of former adventures, defining their style more dramatically than ever before.

Creating moments of beauty and fragility contrasting with tribal rhythms, filthy bass and mesmerizing sample loops, their sound dynamically achieves all this while still producing classic original songs.

What Amy’s Ghost delivers on record, they exceed in their highly visual live performances. Drawn in to the band’s compulsive energy, many ears become one, the watchers standing unified like some entranced collective.

Fans already wait with baited breath for the release of the bands Album. After teaming up with producer Adam Smith (First Circle Records), with his quirky portable studio and energetic approach to recording 'The Dance of Defeat' is finished! With the help of respected musicians, artists and family, the recordings have evolved into a beautiful, intricate masterpiece and is due for release on May 1st 2010.

THE SCARLETS

Three boys;a girl from Oxford. This band excite us, as they are not your run of the mill punk rock band. These kids sound fresh and excite us. It has been a long time since a band with this much potential have come from Oxford.

"Spiky, riotouse chunk of punk noise, effusively scrappy and sounding suitably like a scuffle at a late night bus stop, possibly in wheatly as an evening of strong cheap cider takes hold. in fact its the general messiness simply accentuates the perfect encapsulation of a teenage friday night...raucouse fun."-Nightshift

BLUNT  FAUST

December 12th 2009
Christmas Party One
Venue Plugnplay 35 Milford Road Reading RG1
Doors 8pm
Bands THE WOOKIES/HUNTING THE SHY/THE STELLAR THIEVES/VETOES
Tax £5 door £4 advance www.wegottickets.com / flyer

Bands

THE WOOKIES
Prog hippy nonsense from the Oxford Road,Reading. Championed by Steve Lamacq and Stuart Maconie (6 Music) .They released their debut single earlier this year.It features the classic In The Forest. Which is one of the songs of the year. English prog masturbation for the masses

'The Wookies new EP is a weird and wonderful beast.'
Russel's Reviews. Full review here

'Maybe a bit too wilfully eccentric, but for all my journalistic pedantry, I kept listening. They definitely have something. '
Richard Foster. Full review here.

Other reviews...

'lush guitars and harmonies, which complement hard-hitting atmospheric songs.'
bbc.co.uk

'....fantasmagorical... They are back to convert the world to the word of The Wookies.'
Blah Blah Magazine.

'the ride is worth it-it’s bloody good. I particularly enjoyed the swirling, bleeping keyboards which stopped it all getting too pub-rock on us. The playing was uniformly classy and precise and made some of the earlier acts look distinctly iffy."
Oxfordbands.com. Dec '08

'They play jazz-infected indie pop and they are here to save the world with some of the oddest pop songs ever.'
josaka.com

www.myspace.com/thewookiesuk

HUNTING THE SHY
Were once a three piece and sounded like Spaceman 3 having a drinking session with the Mary Chain, whilst Codeine were serving the drinks. They now employ a drummer, so they now number four. The smell of Seattle is here. If Kurt Cobain and John Peel were alive they would be both huge fans of this Reading band. The once manager of Libertines,Primals and Kills has been getting down at their shows.
www.myspace.com/hunttheshy

THE STELLAR THIEVES
Four sexy young chaps from Sandhurst,Berkshire. Hungary and keen;they deliver sassy well thought out indie pop ear fodder for the masses.
www.myspace.com/thestellarthieves

VETOES
This is their debut show!We are excited about these lot. They have already been recordings with local record producer legend Adam Whittaker (Amy Winehouse/Lilly Allen/ZuZu and the Saw Doctors!) If you are missing Libor Spacek, then you have just found their replacement.

Morning
Firstly huge thanks to anyone/everyone who came to see Ben/Jay/Jemma on Friday night. These acoustic nights seem to be going really well. It sucks putting on shows, as you usually only get to see the headliners. Jay and Jemma sounded the best to date. Its a bit like Karate Kid, wax/wax off. They are getting better with every car being waxed. Ben Marwood is a sheer joy;such a huge talent-2010 should be his year.He supports Frank Turner at the already sold out Union Chapel, London December 19th show.It is looking Ben will be back at the Rising Sun Arts Centre Feb 26th.

Whatever Club Velocity is;have not got a clue what is is-i am very happy that we get OAPS turn up, to under age kids trying to be cool as fudge, to music fans who are not forced fed to believe in this band or that band being the best thing since slice bread this week, that Zane Lowe has been told to tell the 'masses'

Debate of the week here in Reading,Royal Berkshire,England seems to be-Will Pete And The Pirates be any good at the Xmas Party (December 13th at Sub89,Friar St)

Pete And The Pirates should be a lot bigger than they are. I think on this Sunday morning, i will keep my theories why they are not to myself. Even if you are thinking about it, and you live in Reading, you should go and nothing else support Sub 89. As they probably losing money at the moment;would be good for them that this sort of gig will pull good numbers on a Sunday night in December. Its only 7 quid upfront. I hope that as one of my punters said on Friday "You know what they are like they will just play the new album, that no one has," Well lets hope they do not do that......
Its Christmas and we demand the 'hits'
http://www.facebook.com/l/5b5dd;www.myspace.com/peteandthepirates

I am on BBC Radio Berkshire tonight as part of the demo panel. I dont sound very sexy on the wireless .But as a huge of fan of Auntie, i will do it every time i am asked. The Session (If you do not know) is an hour long show promoting the local music scene of Berkshire. Tonight it is the debut outing by Jennifer Minard. Linda Serck has taken a year off to have a baby.Update Linda gave birth on Friday, i wonder if it was at the same time Ben Marwood was singing '13'?. Jennifer is from up north;she seems like a good egg. So everyone is happy. Listen on line, if you are not in Reading or Berkshire 7pm to 8pm tonight.

I rediscovered In The Thick Of It last night.Malcolm is my hero!!

For the record Club Velocity/Velocity Recordings has always been about
thinking a lot bigger than just Reading. We live here and happy to do,but we know it is a bigger world outside our door............

ATTENTION THIEVES EP RECORD RELEASE PARTY!!

Attention Thieves
Introducing an exciting new 4 piece band from Reading!
Formed in 2009 after a stint in rehab Attention Thieves are ready to show you what they’re made of.
With just a handful of gigs under their belt these boys are already gaining praise in the musical underground.
Their forward-looking combination of hooks, atmospheric guitars, intricate drumming, adventurous management and good looks has already won them an army of local fans and a support slot with Filthy Dukes.
The 4 track EP (Out December 4th) perfectly showcases Attention Thieves, taking you from post hardcore to indie rock through to punk.
Attention Thieves are not a band that can be easily pigeon holed but their energized mix has been compared to The Police, Bloc Party and Queens of the Stoneage.....

Vicars of Twiddly

Based in the rock n roll haven that is Benson, Oxfordshire. The Vicars (yes they all Vicars) of Twiddly deal in the best surf crazy crazed filth, this side of Bellingham USA . Dig The Fuzz!! Expect Go Gos dancers, expect to be blessed and expect to selll your soul to the Devil.

This what Nightshift reported recently
"The Vicars of Twiddly emerge in full ecclesiastical attire, though they seem to have upgraded themselves from vicars to popes. Musically, they’re a bouncy surf band, with a nice line in 60s-sounding keyboards and twangy guitars. They come across a lot heavier than their Myspace recordings, and sound all the better for it. In the 80s there was a huge scene of similar-sounding bands, mainly in London and often dressed in sharp suits, like The Mysterons and Out On Blue Six, who seemed to fade away with the dance revolution. To be honest this music is best enjoyed in a live environment, The Wheatsheaf and tonight’s enthusiastic crowd seem to agree."

Burn Before Reading There was once a band called Kicks, who signed their lives away but for not enough money in 2007. Maybe never trust anyone called Jazz. The band burnt out. Now here comes Burn Before Reading, for round two Debut Reading show Pop music with a big capital P.
