Happy New Year for 2008 everyone! Thanks to Heritage Lottery Fund, The Jack Petchey Foundation, and Newham Council, Solid Harmony enjoyed a rich year of opportunities in 2007. The choir performed a total of 10 gigs last term, with 7 of them being in the second half, and even 2 happening on one day! We are now looking forward to a year of working with some of our favourite Music Leaders, Paul Watson, Jason Yarde, Eska Mtungwazi, Celia Wickham-Anderson and many more, not to mention our very own Jane in the year ahead! We will be training for singing exams with Thames Valley University and preparing to take part at CME Stirling, Scotland in July. The choir also hopes to perform at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the Newham Arts Festival on 11th July.We have appointed 3 new reps, Aaron Thomas, Naomi Scarlet and Simcess Kamara and Alesha Young will be Chrystal Lecointe's new Choir Assistant. Chrystal will continue to maintain the website and be overall project Leader apprentice. Thank you to Awards for All and Jack Petchey for making it possible for us to keep moving and growing!

Thank You Cambridge Heath Brass Band and Roy Terry for the opportunity of performing with you on Saturday 1st Dec evening at the Salvation Army, Hackney. We enjoyed hearing you play and singing with you, as well as with our old friends Revelation Choir. We hope this will lead to future collaborations. Comment from Roy Terry, "The choirs were fantastic! - as was the atmosphere. They have a new fan in the Hackney Deputy Speaker who was there responding with great enthusiasm. We also achieved our goal of raising the funds to fly two young leaders from Eastern Congo to Kinshasa for next year's SA Music School which I've been asked to lead."

Hello!!!Hope the weather is not too gloomy out there where you are. Let me just get straight into catching you all up.September was a busy month for the choir with 3 performances as well as welcoming over 10 new members to the choir. They started off the month with the Sing For Peace event, then just two days later, they perfomed at Queen Mary's, then they set the mood with an inspirational and positive performance at NewVIc's Special Diploma Evening.Last week saw the second - and final - part of a partnership with Tanzanian artist Cassius Maganga. He worked with the choir on two pieces, one which is in his native language and the second being one they have developed together. The choir are now in the process of finishing the writing process and are now getting together to polish it all up. He integrated call and response as well body beat techniques and even managed to get the band singing too!!!

It's that time of year where everything slows down in the lead up to the summer and everyone is excited as its the start of a long holiday, but alas – no rest for Solid Harmony. They had a staggering four gigs lined up in July alone! However they still managed to have some "Choir Time" and hold their first Solid harmony Achievement Awards. With the help of Jack Petchey Funding, the students were able to hand out certificates as an appreciation of their hard-work, dedication and commitment to the choir. The newcomers and musicians were not left empty-handed and were awarded for their integral contribution to the choir this year. Paul Watson was there as our special guest and said: "You guys have achieved so much and have grown a lot. I can't wait to work with you all again!" With the celebrations and partying over, it was back to work. The choir managed to perform at their gigs with gusto and pride and end the year with a bang. Pictures from the events at Forest Gate, The Credon Centre, Central Park and West Ham Memorial Park, so keep you eyes peeled. Signing Off – Have a great summer and stay safe. Chrystal
