this is important so I've double-spaced.     GREENLAND HAS NEW RECORDINGS

there's a whole slew of 'em, like thirty songs.   We've posted a few up here.

Kyle Downes recorded/mixed one slew and Mark Raymond recorded/mixed the other

slew.  Huge enormous thanks to both of them for their help and patience.

We're most likely going trim them down and release them as two EPs.  Look out for a

release show in the winter-time in DC.            love,

we are playing in brooklyn on Aug 2nd, Arlington on Aug 3rd.

on August 23 we are playing an all ages show at the Rock and Roll hotel in NE

My girlfriend and I ran into a number of friends on 18th street the other day. It was a good day. I picked her up from the airport and showed her some demos. She objects to a particular line because it's (she wouldn't put it this way) too bourg-ie. it probably won't make it in because it's distant from what i felt at the time, and of course i've got some better ones up my sleeves anyways.

Mike's been a little stressed lately so we've been drinking more at practice which is fine by me. i actually picked up a bottle of patron and we had a great productive practice today. really. they can go together

we are going into the studio for a third session in a sprawling rock and roll thing we're getting together for whatever reason. it really sounds like us and the tones are raw and mr. tones is super raw, himself. his cardigan caught on fire last night.

so keep an eye out for the shows and hopefully the new tunes when we do start leaking them to people in order of rank and privilege. they're really important, live and a very straight forward and confident version of what we've been trying to do all along and only realized now.

peace,

Are you stuck in a rut? Do you have feelings that lead you nowhere? Work for things that don't count? Breed without passion or secretly hate one of your children? Do you tell yourself you're trying everyday only to find yourself in the same damn place you never thought you'd be in a misguided, idealistic youth?

The answers to all your disarming adult sobs and whines without catharsis can be found in our new publication: GREENLAND MYSTIKAL SOUL TRUTHS FROM THE UNKNOWN DELIVERED UNTO YOU FROM THE MOUTHS OF WINGED FANCIFUL CREATURES WITHE CLEAN-AS-A-WHISTLE VAGINAS/PENISES CHOOSE YOUR PREFERENCE. It will soon be available n paperback for $3. We're having a release party in neutral waters sometime in August or something.

and ... hold up ... FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER WE'RE POSTING SOME LYRICS. so please be obliged to check those out. they will no doubt unlock things you never thought you'd feel and set you down a path of new understanding.

We've been playing for a couple of years as "Greenland" and now we've got a new cd coming out and right now we're just going to keep recording. We're very happy with the recordings we just did, in spurts at Summerhaus Studios. They are somewhat moody and classy and has nice amounts of natural distortion. Our songs deal with wishing one was Ryan Adams and Bach, alternately (this has nothing to do with our music, we sound nothing like either of those artists, but we wish we were that sexy), feeling awkward at the beach at the age of ten, sex at summer camp unachieved, and inanimate objects talking.
Hopefully a number of things are communicated--or left appropriately uncommunicated--within the whole enterprise which can be viewed thus far only with an unreasonable amount of effort (our fault). But cursory descriptions (sometimes heard through a weekend haze) from good friends and peers have enough common threads for us to begin to suspect there's actually something worthwhile going on here. It's got something to do with a consciousness of the absurdity of our entire enterprise. Not only being able to joke about ourselves, but being conscious that we, just by being a rock band on myspace, etc, are a massive joke -- this is the button that, if we keep pushing, might open the door to a benign and sweet foolishness (as opposed to bitter foolishness) that will lend us a rich, mocha flavor you'll love. Plus if we succeed by any measure it will look sort of MC Escher.

hello - we are playing at the black cat mainstage so everyone should come!

there is a recording of us doing black lightning live on here now.

there is also an acoustic recording of a song we might never record otherwise that i am fond of. it's called brown banana lies down (for now) and it was written this past summer.

Current mood:head held high
so here goes -- we're totally gonna hit the big time next year. we're going to be the next u2. take over the world with our music.

i just got a new computer and it's pretty sweet.

okay we got this full length we're working on and i have to say it's very greenland. so some douches might not like it but really i hope it'll work out. it's being engineered by this guy kyle (of hard tomorrows fame) and everything's turning out very slacker and to the roundabout point which is how we like it. very killer. drunk assasin. stoned platypus sledgehammer. expect 11 to 14 tracks by april. yes, april. we're being more conservative with our estimates and you may or may not know how these things go but apparently very slowly.

my housemate last night (wes) was like, "no reason to record a full length unless you're trying to get picked up. no reason." so here it goes. pull up the old caulfield bootstraps and get your head out of your ass greenland because animals don't let themselves die; the limp around making awesome noises and bite shit.

Current mood:  quixotic
the show at the galaxy hut was great; i was glad just to get through some of the new songs. after the show we were all really happy.  the galaxy gave us free chimay which helped, no doubt.  i was very happy with the quality of the people there.  in regard to audiences i'm really beginning to prefer quality to quantity. unfortunately my friend/song advisor sam wasn't too crazy about the ultra-new song ("pillow talk") so we might have to re-examine it a bit.  he even made some comparisons to death cab in regard to the intro and we just cannot have that.  also the name might be a tad cutesy; though if you know us you know that it's cutesy with sort of a seedy depressed comic underbelly but i guess not everyone can know us.

we went to an after-party metropolitan had and played the awesomest video game ever called "guitar hero" or something where you try to play this plastic guitar and me and tony where just giddy because we're dorks.  the snow was awesome.  me and allen from middle distance runner had a killer snowball fight.  it was a good night.

now it's sunday and i have to work tomorrow which sucks.
