The real issue with Chicago Hip-Hop is a combination of the radio support, the DJ support and the artist non-collabos. Everyone wants to be the first artist to blow up while still in Chicago. We all wanted to be the 1 to do this. The reality is that it's already been done with Twista. He's the first MC that's got national attention and is still located in the CHI. Most Chitown artist had to relocate to get on and that shit is pathetic.
Personally, I blame Chicago radio for holding the nuts of any artist outside Chicago, and then sayin there's no good records coming from Chicago. (Bullshit) I also blame the popular Chicago DJ's for being advocates for payola ( and you know who you are) which is why so many Chicago DJ's are getting their asses whooped over not playin records. And finally, I blame the Chicago artist themselves for not working with eachother on more collabos. No one wants to get outshined on their record, but that's what collabos are all about. Letting others shine so that you can shine more yourself.
When we correct these three problems, Chicago will become a leader in the hip-hop scene. But I could be trippin...so let us know how you feel about the problem in Chicago hip-hop.
