Two Producers, One Huge Hit, One BET Award

..

Question: What happens when two producers collaborate but only one gets the shine?

The city of Atlanta played host to the annual BET Hip-Hop Awards once again. The celebratory event is highly known for its star studded after parties and nomination celebrations. I got a personal request to attend Shondrae "Bangladesh" Crawford's nomination celebration for Amilli, Lil Wayne's lead single off the multi-platinum selling Tha Carter III album. I decided to go in support of the co-producer Cha-Lo whom I interviewed just days prior. Within hours of my decision to attend, I got a text message stating, the Chicago bred producer Cha-Lo known for his house music infused sound, which is the signature sound dominating the Amilli record, would not be attending nor was he invited.

Situations such as this, are not new to an industry, which is notorious for ripping off artists, producers and songwriters. Often producers, hastily sign contracts giving up their rights and are forbidden to discuss their involvement in said project. However, Cha-Lo has a platinum plaque to prove his involvement in the song, the original song he composed, as well as the original co-producer agreement (See Attached).

Shondrae, widely known, as the producer of "What's Your Fantasy" must be fantasizing if he believes no one knows he is not the sole creator of this year biggest hit. I guess it was not a problem when industry folks knew it was a collaboration between two producers. However, when the record won several awards from BET it became an issue.

Check out EXHIBIT A - (Co-Producer Agreement)

Check Out EXHIBIT B -(Original Amilli Song from 3 Years Ago)

Check Out EXHIBIT C- (Billboard Magazine Article) **Also in the agreement , notice it has additional elements "Produced" by Cha-lo. He agreed to that but, the key word "Produced" was some how taken off of the credits.

Was Amilli a true collaboration between Bangledesh and Cha-Lo? Or do you believe Bangledesh produced the majority of the record or Cha-Lo produced the majority of the record?

Cri$tyle

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

..
PRLog (Press Release)Oct 01, 2008 – Jermaine Dupri predicted the year belonged to Cri$tyle and in the tenth month of 2008 it would appear JD's prophecy was right on target.   In addition to the literary kudos, Cri$tyle wrote the much-talked about  single "Elevator" on the Pussy Cat Dolls recently released LP (Doll Domination).  She is also responsible for infusing a little soul into Natasha Bedingfield on her quickly advancing single "ANGEL" (Pocket Full of Sunshine).  November and December should prove equally as celebratory as Cri$tyle has projects on the way with Beyonce and Brandy. The songwriter who admitted being addicted to music as a teen, has managed to get the entire industry addicted to her "ink", accomplishing in twelve short months the type of success many work years to attain.

Cri$tyle's 2008 began with Mariah Carey's E=MC 2, co-writing Mariah Carey's #1 single "Touch My Body" along with four additional songs including Mariah's recent release "Loving U Long Time".  She followed up with urban/pop singles for Harlem's swaggerific Teyanna Taylor "Google Me" and R&B newcomer Tiffany Evans "I'm Grown feat. Bow Wow".  She penned three records on Janet Jackson's 2008 release (Discipline).. and also worked with former Destiny's Child member LeToya Luckett's on her solo project.  Cri$tyle introduced So So Def freshman Dondria with her debut single "Can't Stop".  Besides conquering R&B and pop charts, this spring "the ink" had the opportunity to whet her country chops, spending time in Nashville collaborating with country music's top writers.

Her first year off the bench and Cri$tyle "the ink" was responsible for eight singles (one of which hit #1), spent studio time with some of the biggest names on the charts and became one of the most requested songwriters with super producers such as Rodney Jerkins. To date she is one of the most  in-demand songwriters in the country and she has yet to turn twenty-five.  "This year has been amazing but I see it as something I've been working my entire life for," says the singer-turned-..songwriter, "I feel like I'm living out my dreams right now."

In addition to working with producers, other songwriters and the artists, the Decatur-born songwriter has made it a priority to give back to the community. "I remember being younger and wanting this so badly.  I know how much it would've meant to me to hear someone I could relate to encourage me to keep pursuing my dreams, so that's what I've been trying to do," she says. Cri$tyle spent the summer doing several non-profit events including speaking at several summer camps in Atlanta and DC. This month she will be a guest speaker at a youth event targeting teenage girls.

During a recent interview with singersroom.com, Cri$tyle admitted being a bit overwhelmed with her success, but insists she is extremely grateful to the team around her including ASCAP and EMI. "I've been blessed beyond what I could have imagine a few years ago."  Though thankful for the accolades she's received thus far, her biggest celebration of the year will no doubt be in November when she marries the inspiration behind many of her love ballads, her sweetheart of six years Jamal Pompey.   "This year has changed my life in so many ways.  It will definitely be one I never forget," she says.

SLAMRadio talks Michelle Obama! .. ..

News Release .....
SLAMRadio invades satellite radio!
Hosts Mecca & CC court Michelleobamawatch.com and chat with Killer Mike
..

NY, NY - Aug 27, 2008 SLAMRadio returned on Sunday, August 17th with a program dedicated to politics, entertainment and exploring the power of the new social media. Broacasting live from New York, co-hosts Janol "Mecca" Holmes and Christal "CC" Jordan- Mims welcomed political blogger Gina McCauley (michelleobamawatch.com), infamous entertainment blogger Gyant (SOHH) and Grammy award- winning rap artist Killer Mike, to the show on Sunday, August 17th.

SLAMRadio is known for political and social commentary relevant to the African American community. Lengendary artist/activist and hip hop pioneer, Chuck D serves as executive producer for the show. Mecca says having Chuck's guidance has set a standard of excellence for SLAMRadio. "With Chuck at the helm it forces us to be accountable to the the entertainment, social and political audience and to provide a responsible voice and representation of our community," Mecca, VP of SLAMJams/Supernatural Inc. believes. CC echoes his sentiments but maintains there must be a bit of sensationalism to keep listeners entertained. The president of the Atlanta- based PR firm Enchanted PR, as well as noted journalist and author, sees SLAMRadio as another facet of entertainment. "As a publicist and journalist I realize the need to keep our listeners informed while giving them a little bit to keep their ears buzzing. I think between Chuck's legacy and the differences between Mecca and I, we reach a good balance. I believe we have a well- rounded show that appeals to a broad audience."

Hosts Mecca and CC were elated to welcome Atty Gina McCauley the founder of michelleobamawatch.com to the discussion on Sunday's show. "We were so impressed with the work Gina is doing in providing a network of support for our future first lady Michelle Obama," says Christal "CC" Jordan-Mims. "I hope after hearing the show, listeners will go to www.michelleobamawatch.com and see some of the hypocrisy going on in the media thus far. I'm sure as the campaign moves forward her site is going to be even more vital in relation to supporting Michelle Obama."

SOHH entertainment blogger Gyant, visited early on armed with the latest celebrity gossip and weighing in on journalist vs. blogger debate. "There will always be a need for journalism for those true hard-hitting news stories, "Gyant commented. The controversial blogger maintained bloggers like himself are relevant for entertainment- related news where readers are aware that they aren't being told the "entire" story. "Having Gyant around is always a treat," CC says. After he visited our show we learned that SOHH and his contributions were up for several awards for their website.

Killer Mike gets SLAMMED!!!
.. Grammy award-winning hip hop artist Killer Mike also joined the discussion, after going public on his falling out then reconciliation with former employer Big Boi (Outkast/Purple Ribbon Records). "We know Killer Mike to be a strong voice in the hip hop community. I personally have witnessed much of his growth as an artist and a community activist, and we'd been looking forward to having him as a guest," Janol "Mecca" Holmes stated.

SLAMRadio returns on September 7th with a program focused on the recent democratic national convention and the effects this election will have on the community as a whole. SLAMRadio will air on satellite radio channel, Air America at 11PM EST. For more information on SLAMRadio visit www.myspace.com/officialslamradio.

This post was made in response to a post on Wordonthestreetsmag.com.  The subject was women being hateful to one another.  Check it out at www.wordonthestreetsmag.com

Comment by Enchanted PR

This post is right on time. It bothers me to hear men talk about how catty we women are to each other and how we can't support each other or get along. The funny thing is alot of the times it is those very men that pit us against each other or subtlely encourage us to compete with one another.

I believe that many times the distrust women have for each other stems from low self-esteem. Some women feel to admit another woman is beautiful or talented in some way means they may not be beautiful or talented themselves. Men joke that when a woman walks into a room all the other women immediately size her up and pick her apart. Unfortunately that is often true. I've seen women do that hoping to find something in the other woman that they can talk about in order to feel better about themselves.

In order to stop this syndrome, we as women have to first of all understand that on a larger scale admitting the strengths of our sisters only works to strengthen us. If you are able to find talent among your sister that reflects on you. Talent and beauty are not exlcusive nor are they limited. Instead of sizing up another woman to find out why she is not as talented or a beautiful or as resourceful as you are, try looking for things that you admire or could learn from about her.

Most of us have been conditioned to feel as though we are competing against one another. This keeps us from truly forming a strong network and being resources for one another. I am a publicist and author based here in Atlanta. There are fifty leven publicists here and authors too for that matter but I know that what God has for me, I will have. I enjoy working with other publicists because I know a having a network to pull from only makes what I have to offer my clients stronger.

I have formed several friendships with other publicists in the same genre as myself because we know that in order to be successful in this male-dominated industry we must support one another.

As far as competing for men goes, that is more foolish than competing for a job or client. The man God has for me, I will not have to compete with my sister for because he will realize the value in me. Fighting with another young lady will never make me more attractive in "Mr. Right's" eyes so I don't take it there.

In closing, I have re-started my Girl's Nite Out for women in the entertainment industry that would like to strengthen their network and support system. I started the group four years ago and though we had a couple of great meetings I was unable to keep the group up. We met last week for the first time and had a blast. If any women are interested in joining us next month, you can e-mail rsvpenchanted@gmail.com and put GIRL'S NITE OUT in the subject line.

Sisters we don't have to let the stereotypes dictate who we are. Celebrate your individual beauty and talent and allow others to get to know you for who you are. Remember pretty is as pretty does.
