Cowsills remain on the road, bring good fun to the Plaza
Wednesday, July 8, 2009 By David Singer
ALBANY — The Cowsills shoulda-coulda had their own TV series, but the producers wanted Shirley Jones to replace their real mother, so goes one version of the story. Regardless which of the many versions you like best, the Partridge Family got the show, and the Cowsills hit the road singing songs for the next several decades.
Wednesday night the family played at the Empire State Plaza Concert Series. They didn’t blow any minds, but they sure were good fun.
Try listening to the theme song of “Love American Style” and ... Read More
By the way, there's a definite error in this article but we thought we'd share it anyway.
Were you at this show? We'd love to know what you thought?

Nashville, TN, November 14, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Legendary pop group The Cowsills have signed with Buddy Lee Attractions for representation. The band continues to be managed by Wayne Coy Productions.
The Cowsills - with original members and siblings Bob, Susan and Paul Cowsill augmented by Susan's husband, drummer Russ Broussard, Bob's son Ryan Cowsill ..boards, Paul's son Brendon Cowsill on rhythm guitar and bassist Tad Armstong - will embark upon a major world tour in early 2009 in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the group's 1969 smash hit, "Hair."
The tour will visit more than 60 cities around the globe and include television, literary and sponsorship components. They are also the subject of a nearly completed feature film documentary chronicling their long career and the tragic passing of two of their brothers, Barry Cowsill who drowned in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and then Billy Cowsill after a long illness in Canada.
Bob Cowsill is encouraged by the group's new beginnings, "we absolutely love performing and getting back in the saddle of touring after all these years. Meeting people we had crossed paths with in a different way back in the hey-day, personally meeting and greeting everyone and enjoying the memories shared by all. That two sons would now replace two brothers was unexpected but afforded us a light in the darkness after we lost Billy and Barry."
"For four decades, fans have embraced the music and family history of The Cowsills," said Steve Peck, head of BLA's rock/variety music division. "The Cowsills are a rare breed. Definitely the best pop harmonies I have ever heard in my life. They have only been back out performing for a little over a year and they continue to blow away audiences and talent buyers as a live act. They get a standing ovation at every show without exception and I've never seen any act pull that off. The upcoming Anniversary tour will continue the great tradition. Buddy Lee Attractions is ecstatic to be a part of it."
Signing with the Nashville agency has Susan Cowsill energized, "we are all happy to be on board with BLA, playing many awesome shows and connecting with our fans all over this beautiful planet." Brother Paul Cowsill adds, "I'm looking forward to meeting more people who took the ride with us in the 60's. In my opinion the shows and singing are better now and our appreciation for the fans is better due to our maturity as performers. We are having fun and it's infectious. I'm looking forward to working with Steve and BLA. I believe that they really get what we're about as a family and a band and they are a first class organization."
In the late 1960's, The Cowsills rocketed to fame behind such classic pop hits as "The Rain, The Park & Other Things (I Love The Flower Girl)", "We Can Fly", "Indian Lake", "Love American Style" and "Hair" the title song from the Broadway Musical. They were the real life inspiration for "The Partridge Family."
The group were mainstays on primetime television during the period, appearing on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and with such notables as Johnny Cash and Dean Martin. The Cowsills are acknowledged as one of the premiere pop vocal groups of all time and recently celebrated combined album and single sales of more than 35 million units.

The gallery will open prior to the public show from 6pm-7pm for the previewing of Karen's Pen & Ink drawing titled In Strong Silence (22x24) which is dedicated to Bill & Barry. This preview hour is a moment of remembrance for Billy & Barry and an opportunity to offer this piece (the actual original piece) for purchase to Cowsill family, friends and fans before the public show. …IN STRONG SILENCE……"IN STRONG SILENCE"… …is the story of an ANGEL… …an ANGEL that was standing… …in the silence… …of the ocean's beckoning call… …so compellingly… …that the waves for one brief moment in time… …stilled their song… …rose… …and as if in respect to his powerful presence… …A strong silence now peacefully began to rest… …on a cold oceans morning… …that seemed so very… …EVERLASTING… …My name is Karen… …i simply see… …ANGELS… …It's a Locke ©… Original Art & Poem by Karen b. Locke ©1995 Artist may be contacted at: Karen@lockegallery.comOr visit us at: www.lockegallery.com About Karen Locke:Karen b. Locke, an established Artist of Russian and Austrian descent, was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised on the East Coast of the United States. Her Artistic development began at an early age in the small East Coast town of Allentown, Pennsylvania. It was here she began her long and now noted career by hand painting personalized greeting cards at the tender age of 9 years, utilizing a distinctively Amish influence as a result of that culture permeating her day to day existence in this close knit community. It was from this period on that Ms. Locke soon levied her abilities into all forms of mixed media and was eventually accepted to THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS in Manhattan. After graduating, Ms. Locke began her extensive travels throughout the United States and Europe, eventually arriving in Southern California. She has touched upon virtually every conceivable facet of her craft during her extensive and colorful career, all the while honing her abilities as a seasoned, classically trained Artist. Ms. Locke has remained always conscious of the responsibility she maintains to the integrity of her works, to the world around her, and to the field of modern art, as one of its humble servants. Ms. Locke now continues her works and private teachings on a daily basis, with a never-ending imagination and distinctive style. Her work is a delicate balance of gentle directional strokes, and strong hard-lined shapes within the image to capture both the feminine and masculine aspects of the piece. Ms. Locke's unique signature approach to her work has been described as, "A living line." A Cowsill footnote to Karen's official biography for those who may not know, Karen was married to Billy and is the mother of Travis Cowsill.

We'd like to announce a couple of signings. We've agreed to perform with the Fifth Dimension and Chuck Negron from Three Dog Night celebrating the hits from "Hair" and the 40th anniversary of the "Age of Aquarius". We performed with the Fifth Dimension on the PBS pledge show we did last year and let me tell you they are great. Since Oliver died, we've been assigned to cover "Good Morning, Starshine" in this celebration. This show will be targeted to the performing arts centers around the country and yesterday a special announcement was sent out by Paradise Artists, the booking agency we will be working with on this. We also have signed this week, a one year, exclusive contract with Talent Consultants International (TCI Talent Ageny) out of New York to book The Cowsills as an individual act. So we're looking forward to more shows with the Idols group, more shows with the "Age of Aquarius" groups and many more on our own. Hope to see you out there.

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it's time to start thinking about Christmas. In celebration, we're adding Christmastime (Song For Marissa) to our MySpace page for the season. Christmastime was recorded during the Global sessions and here's what Bob had to say about that: We also recorded Christmastime at Rumbo ... it was during a heat wave in August. We decorated the entire studio with Christmas lights, a Christmas tree, presents and children ... the whole works ... turned up the air conditioning and it was a great day.
We hope that you and those you love have a truly wonderful holiday season.

Yes, it's been awhile and we keep meaning to add something different here and then another month gets away from us but we finally have added a couple. We realized that we had never truly featured Some Good Years during our Global tribute so first up is a live version of Some Good Years that was recorded at Ghengis Cantina in Los Angeles on July 22, 1991. And here's what Bob had to say about this song in the Global Story:What a healing thing time is. This song is all about closure. It's for everything that ever had a beginning, a middle, and an end ... a career, a relationship, a business, even a life. If you need closure, this is where to find it. It seems that with time, his perspective improved and everything looked better ... especially memories...looking back. As time passed, he started dwelling more on the good memories he had with her ... even though things hadn't work out the way he had dreamed they would. It must be human nature to naturally focus on the positive rather than the negative especially the further you get from an experience because that's what happened to him. So in later years, he only dwelled on what was good about their relationship and became grateful for everything that happened and appreciated what he learned along the way. The message is that the good shines through ... so let it.
Some Good Years was one of the few songs on Global that wasn't recorded at Rumbo Recorders. Here's a little of what Bob had to say about the recording of Some Good Years:
Some Good Years was recorded using a drum machine by Bob and Mary Jo, and Cecil Duke. The song was complete except for two things ... we brought it to Oceanside Studio and John put the drums on and finally at Studio 56 in Hollywood, Susan, Paul and John were added to the backgrounds.
And, if you haven't, check out this video set to Some Good Years that was put together by Louise Palanker & Ian Broyles for a benefit done by The Cowsills for Billy Cowsill:
The second song that we've added is a live version of Freefall - this version is from a show in April of 1991 at the China Club in Los Angeles. Did you know that Freefall was one of the songs that didn't make it on to Global? Three songs didn't make the cut and are not on Global. Freefall, Shine and Maybe It's You. Paul's the lead vocalist on Freefall (a rare co-write by Bob and Barry).
Enjoy & let us know what you think!
