The Whip - Trash
Following the cancellation of Brody Daille's Spinnerette from the Jersey Live line up, Manchester electro-rock four-piece The Whip have stepped in as a late replacement.
Having released several singles through super-cool French label Kitsune, they released their debut LP 'X Marks Destination' on Southern Fried Records in March of 2008.
Mixing disco, rave and punk influences, they've been compared to the likes of New Order, Daft Punk and Kraftwerk, and their Jersey Live appearance continues a busy year of gigging which has seen them tour with Late of the Pier in the US, as well as performing at festivals in Germany, Finland, Austria, Turkey, Latvia and the UK.

Jersey Live Festival has teamed up with Channel 103, Jersey Arts Trust and local charity Headway Jersey to present a week of live busking events in St Helier, in the run-up to September festival. Starting on Saturday 29th August and continuing until Friday 4th September, there will be a chance to see some of Jersey Live's local acts performing acoustic sets outside the Jersey Telecoms Store, at which the last few remaining festival tickets will go on sale from 29th August.
Featuring local acts Annie Law, Didgeridoo Bruce, Jersey Bob, Brave Yesterday, Empty 7 and The Dirty Aces, the event aims to raise money for Headway Jersey, the nominated charity of this year's festival. Each busker will have an eye-catching Headway bucket to collect proceeds for the charity.

Headway Jersey is the local charity that provides information and support for people living in Jersey affected by brain injury, including relatives and carers. Headway Jersey have over 100 members who benefit from activities such as swimming, meditation, hypnotherapy, computer training, arts and crafts and supportive therapies that encourage neuro-rehabilitation. Headway also strive to increase public awareness and understanding of brain injury and to prevent social isolation for people with brain injuries.

Also at the events, you will have the chance to win a 'money can't buy' exclusive prize of 2 VIP tickets to Jersey Live PLUS the opportunity to watch a band of your choice from on-stage. It's as exclusive a prize as there is. The competition is being run by Channel 103 and all you have to do to have a chance of winning is get down to the Jersey Telecoms Store in Queen Street, from 1 – 5pm on Saturday 29th August, or 12.30 – 4pm on Tuesday 1st – Friday 4th September and register your name with one of the 103 roadrunners who will be on hand. Each day a finalist will be picked, and at 5.15pm on Friday, the winner will be drawn at the Jersey Telecoms Store. The draw will be broadcast live on Channel 103.

Event organiser Chris Bell said, "The aim of this event is to create a sense of excitement about the festival and get a taste of the festival vibe out into the streets of St Helier, and more importantly, to show the festival's support to our nominated charity, Headway. I'm hopeful that the great music on offer will encourage people to come and give generously."

In the run-up to the 6th annual edition of Jersey Live, the festival organisers have joined forces with Jersey Arts Trust, BBC Introducing and La Motte Street Youth Service to bring together some influential music industry figures for a panel meeting, discussing the challenges faced by musicians and bands in the Channel Islands, and the changing face of the music industry and consumer trends.
The discussion will be chaired by Ryan Morrison, New Media Producer with BBC Jersey and presenter of new music show BBC Introducing, and some influential and experienced figures within the UK music industry will be taking part in the panel, including:

Joanna Ashmore of International Talent Booking, the booking agency whose clients include Lenny Kavitz, Jamiroquai and Aerosmith.
Gareth Metcalfe, New Media Tutor at Manchester University, and creator of cutting edge digital download website Audigist.
Chris Bell, editor of London music magazine The Beat Happening and promoter of live music event The Beat Happening Sessions.
Christian Jegard, lead singer of Brighton-based indie band The Valentines and former Jersey resident.
Dean Taylor, the man behind This Is Not A Label, a new company that aims to help musicians release their own music and wrestle back control in the music industry.

The hope is that the panel discussion will bring bands of all different styles and genres together to share their interest in one common interest, and Mr Bartlett stresses that under-18's are "more than welcome; in fact, we'd be delighted to see them take part." The event will also be open to non-ticket-holders for Jersey Live festival.
With the music business represented by a performer, journalist, and representatives of the live music and recording industry and the new digital market, the debate will be aimed at educating local musicians in the workings of all aspects of music as a professional endeavour.
The free event is to be held in the VIP Spiegel Tent at the Jersey Live festival site on Friday September 4th (the night before the festival starts), and will provide a valuable networking opportunity for local bands and UK industry representatives who will be flying in from the UK for the festival. There will also be the opportunity for local bands playing at the festival to collect their wristbands and deposit equipment for the following two days of entertainment.
The panel event will be followed by a drinks reception and an exclusive live performance from former Jersey resident Stanley Forbes. Now residing in Paris, Stanley plays lo-fi, theatrical acoustic folk, charged with political satire and lyrical wit. He will be opening the festival with a set on the Main Stage on Saturday afternoon. Friday night's performance will be an opportunity to see him up close.
A limited free coach service (available to 50 people) will be operating on the evening, with a coach picking up passengers at 7pm at People's Park, and leaving the Jersey Live site to return to St Helier at 10pm. People wishing to travel to the event by coach must register by sending their name and telephone number topaneltravel@jerseylive.org.uk. Only one seat per application is permitted, and successful applicant will receive a confirmation email on the morning of the day of the event.

Dizzee Rascal - BonkersBasement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At?The Jersey Live festival organisers would like to reassure Jersey Live ticketholders that contrary to an inaccurate rumour, headliners Basement Jaxx, The Kooks, and Main Stage artist Dizzee Rascal have not cancelled their Jersey Live appearances.
Following the cancellation of main stage acts Esser and Spinnerette (who have been replaced by The Antlers and one more act TBA), the festival office has received an influx of calls asking for confirmation that Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal and The Kooks are still performing at the festival on 5th and 6th September.
Festival press officer Chris Bell said, "The news of Esser and Spinnerette's cancellations have obviously spread like Chinese whispers, to the point where people are concerned that our headline acts have pulled out. I'd like to say the rumours are categorically untrue, and we urge people to keep an eye on the Jersey Live website, as this is where the full line up details can be found. The show will go on, and will be bigger and better than ever!"

Basement Jaxx - Where's Your Head At?It's hard to believe that a whole ten years have passed since the release of Basement Jaxx's debut album 'Remedy'. In that time, the dance duo have become a household name, if not household faces, and the likes of 'Romeo', 'Where's Your Head At?' and 'Red Alert' are some of the most familiar dance tracks to have ever come out of Blighty.
With the release of their fifth album, 'Scars', due out soon and the outfit set to bring their notoriously riotous live show to Jersey Live's Main Stage, we thought we'd have a word with half of Basement Jaxx (a Basement Jack?) Simon Ratcliffe, to find out what was on his mind...
Will this be your first visit to Jersey?
I went when I was about 7. I can't remember much about it, but I had a lovely time. Felix DJ'd there about a year ago and he really liked it, so we're looking forward to it.
Will you get a chance to have a look around the island?
I hope so. I might bring my other half and my daughter and spend a bit of time there – I hope we can make the most of it.
You have a reputation for putting on quite extravagant stage shows – what have you got up your sleeve for Jersey Live?
Well we have a new album coming out so there'll be a lot of new material as well as some old stuff, and bits that we've been working on in the studio; a mixture really. We have people coming to perform it: [guest singers] Charlene, Vula, Rhonda and [MC] Slarta John, and percussion, and I play guitar. We should have really good visuals with us for the show.
You've had a pretty busy summer touring festivals? How do you keep the energy up when your live show is basically a house party on a stage?
It's been full-on but we do get a bit of time off between shows. My time off is spent changing nappies, but that's kind of relaxing. It has been quite relentless, playing big stages to big crowds, but it's hard not to respond, you know?
How's the new material been going down at festivals?
We've been playing it since the beginning of the year, because that's when the album was meant to come out. We did a tour to coincide with the release but the album wasn't ready in time, so we ended up doing a tour without anyone knowing the music, but it was actually fine, it was wicked. Having new stuff makes the experience for us better; you want to play new music to people and have challenges and make things unpredictable, otherwise it becomes a bit boring and then your show ends up not very good.
What are you listening to at the moment?
I've been listening to The Horrors' new album – That's the most recent thing I've been listening to. Other than that, I listen to a lot of radio; pirate radio stations and a lot of Radio 4, a mixture of stuff. The other thing I got was in Russia – we went to St Petersburg and I bought a record of a male choir singing a Russian folk song, and it's really, really good. Their voices go so deep, and it's something we should probably do something with. I've been listening to a lot of Hindi devotional music, too. My partner's Indian, and her parents got me in to it. It's just really nice and ambient to have in the background. That's the soundtrack to my house.
What's been your most memorable festival experience?
I remember the very first Glastonbury we played, on the Other Stage in 2000. I was so excited that we were playing Glastonbury and everyone was very nervous backstage. Looking back on it, it's incredible how little was going on onstage compared to now. It was just me and Felix and a mixing desk, and we were just doing instrumental music, then someone would come onstage and sing a song, then we'd carry on. It was so pared down compared to now. We headlined the Pyramid in 2005. I'm probably alone here, but for some reason that wasn't as exciting to me as the first time. Maybe because by that stage we'd played lots of festivals, and although it was awesome, in 2000 I was so overwhelmed and in awe of it.
Do you remember your first experience as a festival punter?
Yeah it was Glastonbury in '89, and that was good. I went with a friend and we were very naïve really – in our heads we were going to Woodstock, and we went without tents and just slept under the stars by the main stage in a sleeping bag each. It's weird because now I associate Glastonbury with rain, and there were a lot more travellers around at the festival in those days. Now if I went I think I'd probably sleep in a Winnebago with a week's supply of toilet paper!
You're known for collaborating with quite a diverse range of artists. If you could have anyone guest on a Basements album, dead or alive, who would it be?
Definitely Prince. I saw him at the o2 a couple of years ago and it was awesome, mind-blowing. Unquestionably, he's head and shoulders above most people in the world, and he guy's 50. Mind you, we worked with Yoko Ono and she's 60, and she's very youthful and energetic so I suppose age shouldn't stop you doing anything.
Finally, any final messages for the Jersey Live crowd?
Let the festival be something unpredictable and spontaneous, and make sure you come and see us. We'll rock your socks off.
Basement Jaxx headline the Main Stage on Saturday 5th September.

Tankus the Henge live at Green Belt FestivalLondon-based band Tankus the Henge last night confirmed to play at this year's Jersey Live.
They dress like Dickensian street urchins and play piano, accordion, trumpets, saxophones and guitars, and with a variety of styles ranging from polka to freeform jazz to waltzing stompers, they've built up a loyal fan base in the UK. Anyone who's seen them live will testify that it's an energetic affair, with one member performing for the duration of gigs on a unicycle.
With the bohemian visual spectacle that is Tankus' live show, they're a festival favourite, and have performed at Green Belt alongside acts including Jose Gonzalez and, curiously, Fightstar, and will be performing on a Bestival bill in September that features Kraftwerk and MGMT. They'll be performing in the VIP Spiegel Tent and the Big Tease tent over the weekend. For a sneak peek at their musical offerings, check out their Green Belt live performance.
Tankus the Henge perform in the Big Tease Tent on Saturday 5th and the VIP Spiegeltent on Sunday 6th September.

Dizzee Rascal - BonkersQuite simply Britain's most successful ever rapper, the chart-blazing, Mercury Award-winning East Londoner Dylan Mills, aka Dizzee Rascal, will be taking to the stage at Jersey Live this September, and we're frankly quite excited about that.
With three LPs under his belt and another one on the way - 'Tongue in Cheek', which is released on August 24th - he's simply one of Britain's most treasured artists, as the success of his last two singles ('Bonkers' and 'Dance Wiv Me') testify. Jersey Live's roving hack Chris Bell had a chat with him on the dog and bone about his upcoming festival appearance...
Hi Dizzee. First off, what do you know about Jersey?
Is that the one with the monkeys?
We have a zoo...
Actually I'm thinking of Gibraltar. There's a lot of English people there right?
Yeah, it's a British island... did you ever see Bergerac when you were a kid?
Oh yeah, of course, that's Jersey then? I was thinking of Gibraltar, they're both British, that's why. Has it got any monkeys?
Afraid it's not that exotic. It has a lot of cows. Will you get a chance to see the sights?
We're staying overnight, so I'll get a chance to look around, it'll be nice to explore some new territory.
You've been playing a lot of festivals this summer - what have been the highlights?
Glastonbury was the highlight, playing 'Bonkers' on the Pyramid Stage in front of 95,000 people, watching them going for it, that was unreal. That was massive; it felt like the culmination of a lot of hard work.
You're releasing the new album shortly after coming over to Jersey Live - what can people expect from the new material, and how's it been going down at festivals so far this summer?
It's been great. This is my best album yet, musically and lyrically, and it's got a real party vibe so it's been going down really well. I've just finished recording it now so I can relax a bit, but I guess people should expect a party. It's not all like 'Dance Wiv Me'; that's probably the poppiest one on it. It's pretty hardcore, but fun, but still a bit naughty... it's naughty but nice.
You've got a reputation for crossing different genres in your music. Did you have a diverse musical upbringing as a youngster? What are you listening to at the moment?
I had a really diverse upbringing, musically; I listened to everything from grunge to drum n' bass, metal and RnB. I'm listening to a lot of drum n' bass at the moment.
What was your first as a punter?
No man, didn't really go to any. I went to Reggae Sunsplash in Victoria Park once, I watched Wyclef Jean play.
Who are you looking forward to seeing at Jersey Live? Basement Jaxx are headlining, who you've collaborated with... will we see you on stage with them?
I've not been doing any of that lately, I'll just be doing my own thing when I play. I'm looking forward to raving; 2ManyDJs, Andy C, I'm up for all that.
Finally, any messages for the Jersey Live crowd?
Get ready to sweat; it's gonna be a party.
Dizzee Rascal performs on the Main Stage on Saturday 5th September.

Passion Pit - SleepyheadAmerican electro-indie stars Passion Pit commandeered the offices of the 24th floor of the MTV Building in New York today, performing an exclusive set to 30 office interns and employees.
