Hi everyone!
I just love this season. Christmas has been made into all sorts of things, but my prayer is to be able to focus on who it is about. No amount of shopping or chasing after stuff will compensate the celebration of Christ's birth, it's just an astounding event!
A lot is happening music-wise, and plenty of it behind the scenes. Last night at the epicc Elevation youth night was awesome. We rocked the house, and even better than that, were able to let the youth of our church know that we love them and care about them. It was cool to be on electric guitar again (I lead on the acoustic on Sundays), and we did a couple of new songs, "Our King Is Here" and "Blessed Holy One", it was just great! Add to that a Christmas Hymn and tracks by Brenton Brown and Tim Hughes, among others, and we worshiped for sure!
We also did an acoustic concert up in Bakersfield a few weeks back. It was great to worship at a church that looked like Starbucks and a pastor that just wanted to be called "Dave". Gotta love it! Their night was a monthly Friday night hangout with tables around and people doing crafts, journaling and sharing stories while music was playing. There were a couple of excellent local artists, as well, and we got to introduce our prototype t-shirts, which turned out pretty cool!
We are headed back in the recording studio in early 2009, so it's great to look forward to laying down some new stuff. It's way too long since "Feet of Clay." With new management, things are more organized, so it's a huge blessing to be able to focus more on the art - writing songs, recording home demos, playing... you know, all the good stuff! We'll keep you posted on the releases, so check back again and SIGN UP ON THE MAILING LIST, it's the best way to stay updated!
In true Christmas spirit, we are also in the last stretch of expecting our brand new baby girl. The due date is January 5th, and we're excited to meet her. Our son Miro is now 2.5, and we're expecting him to be an excellent big brother. Last night, he was up on stage with us and kept jumping through every song... in time! He plays drums, guitars, anything that makes a sound. Just might be there's a musician in the works, let's see what God has in mind!
Much blessings in this awesome season,
Petri

Hello again from Finland!
The country is showing us its best side right now. After some time up north in Oulu in some pretty cold weather and overcast skies for the summertime, we flew south to Lappeenranta, and we're currently at the in-laws' summer cabin by the lake Saimaa. What a phenomenal place! Here's a nighttime pic...

The cabin is literally 3 feet from the water, and the view is framed by a couple of 75-foot-tall birch trees. The lot is on the hillside, and Karo's parents have worked like crazy. The place also has a couple of buildings with bedrooms for 8 extra people. The rest of the lot has an outdoor baking oven (Karo's dad built it himself from rocks & concrete), and lots of plants from flowers to tomatoes, strawberries, salad and onions. There's also a small greenhouse to help furnish some more food to the table.
The in-laws grow their own herbs and vegetables, we just had "new potatoes" straight out of their own land today with some fish and pork roast. It doesn't get much better than the mother-in-law's cooking... The mushroom stew was great! We also got some pike from the nets, which were smoked later in the evening and enjoyed with some oat bread (think Italian style) and made for a great evening meal. I really look up to the in-laws. They bought this run-down property some years ago and have worked and worked to turn it into a refuge for the whole family. They deserve a lot of respect, as they've put thousands of hours of work into this place to bless others. It's pretty amazing.
Another seasonal favorite are the strawberries. You can't buy anything like them in the States. These berries are grown locally in the mild climate, and if everything goes right, they're the sweetest thing you've ever tasted. Here's a pic of our boy Miro getting his first treats of the summer:

We celebrated Midsummer last weekend - the longest day of the year. Down in southern Finland it means that the sun goes down at around 11PM and rises just a few hours later, but the sky never gets dark, because the sun doesn't go far below the horizon. Instead of a dark night, we just have a couple of hours of twilight. I had to hang a couple of dark towels on the little windows of our room to keep the light out to get some decent sleep. Most of Finland gets really drunk on Midsummer weekend, and usually about 10 people drown because they take small boats out while intoxicated. This year the bad weather actually helped avoid but just a couple of drownings.
The cabin really feeds my creativity. I can hear God better in the nature than in the middle of Los Angeles and the daily grind. It's a huge blessing to have that communion with Him, and some songs are being birthed and rebirthed in this tranquility. It feels so good to sense Him close, as I look at the phenomenal sunsets and listen to His creation singing all around. With all the family around, though, it's difficult to find the opportunities to pull away for a moment to do devotions and have some time to meditate, so in that respect, I even feel a bit distant from Him at times... It's a funny balance, but I know He's still right here.
We'll be here until the end of June, and I'm in no hurry to go back to work right now, but can you blame me? If you want to see more pictures, go over to Photos to check out the album "Finland 2008." Thanks for reading and come by again soon!
All God's best,
Petri

Hi!
Our trip is going well, we've experienced a lot in just a few days already! Go check out the new pics in the "Finland 2008" album!
We made it to Oulu (my birthtown) on Monday, and have been staying at my mom's while visiting dad just a couple of miles from here daily. It might be June and the sun is out, but the temperature outside is hanging at around 50 degrees with a very chilly wind from the north... Finland is close to the North Pole, and the Arctic Circle runs across the country about 1/3 from the northern border down.
Yesterday was very special, as my brother-in-law got his brand new Harley Davidson Street Bob motorbike! Some poor guy in the States had bought it and hit something or someone just 300 miles after buying it! It was sold at an insurance company auction and shipped over to Finland, where a workshop rebuilt the bike and handed it over to Marko, whose eyes shone like stars all day yesterday...
We had our fun with the bike, too:

We're still struggling with jet lag, Karo (the wifey) was up from 3AM to 6AM last night. She's taking a well deserved holiday nap downstairs, and I'm upstairs typing this after a sweet 12.5 hour sleep last night! Shopping here is painful, as the euro has climbed up to 1.60 dollars after starting below the dollar a few years ago! So a 20 dollar t-shirt ends up costing over 30 bucks...
Finland is notorious for crazy high taxes. Right now, gas is floating around 8 bucks a gallon, sales tax is 22 %, and income taxes are much, much higher than in the States. New cars cost about twice as much as in the US, because there's over a 100% tax on the price of new cars, with three different tax brackets based on the car class. I don't know how I'd survive here!
The nature is so beautiful here with tons of birch, pine and fir trees. It's green everywhere! Los Angeles is so dry compared to here. I can't wait until next week, as we'll fly back south to go to my in-law's cabin by the lake. It'll be fun in the sun for 10 days!
Blessings and thanks for stopping by!
Petri

Hi guys! I figured it would be fun to share our trip back to Finland with y'all. I did it a couple of years ago, and it was great to read your comments then. This will be just a series of fun experiences from our trip to visit family & friends. So we packed our bags and our 2-year-old and flew from L.A. to N.Y. on Saturday morning. Oh, what fun! We tore our son out of bed at 5AM, and he was just getting over a fever and what we hoped was a quick cold. The flight was ok, but he didn't get a lot of sleep... Due to the rising cost, there were only free drinks on the 5-hour flight. Sure, they had sandwiches for $6 a pop, but I really had no appetite until well into the flight. By the time I finally felt like eating, they were gone! They probably had only a half dozen to start with! :( Still, the flight was really smooth and relaxing. I feel a bit uneasy about flying, so it's a big deal for me. At our Celebrate Recovery group, I've started to understand how much the fear of flying is just a straight result of the general fear my dad put in me when I was a kid. I'm happy to say that I felt much better about it this time, so we're on our way! We crossed the Atlantic to Helsinki on Finnair, and they were awesome! They gave our boy an inflatable aeroplane and some other stuff for free, and I know of no other airline that does so much for kids. Miro got really tired and the fever kicked back in, so he freaked out as we suffered an hour and a half at JFK before we were allowed to take off. Still, we survived a very smooth flight to Helsinki, and we spent the first night at my wife's brother's house. The best thing about coming to Finland apart from being with family? The SAUNA! My brother in law designed and built his own, and it's awesome! He's got these LED lights that give it a really cool vibe, and the 165 degree temperature with some water on the hot rocks really made for a great experience. It's the best way to deal with the jet lag, which comes from the 10 hour time difference... Right now we're just chilling, and will visit a local licorice factory outlet before jumping on another plane to go to Oulu, my birth town. A week and a half there, and we'll return back south to spend Midsummer Eve and another week and a half at my in-law's cabin by a lake in Lappeenranta. The deck is literally 3 feet from the lake with some huge birch trees lining up both sides of the view... It's astonishing, and we're so looking forward to it! Come by to read more soon, and God bless! Petri

Hello and thanks for stopping by!
We have been pretty busy lately, and as a result, we now have a couple of new videos as well as video sites up! We've uploaded a couple of cool clips. The first one is a church service live clip of a new song called "Jesus, You Are Here", and the second one is the Making of the "Abandon" Video. We will be editing and posting the actual song video within a couple of weeks.
We would love to have you visit, add us and even comment if you're a member of any of these sites, so go check them out at
www.godtube.com/petrimusic
or
www.youtube.com/petrimusic The "Abandon" video shoot was fun. We met at 7AM in Valencia, CA on Saturday morning, and boy, was that Starbucks ever the right meeting place! We wanted to start early to catch the best light, and then the day turned out cloudy so we could have met at noon!!! At least the clouds provided us with the perfect conditions, so we walked down into a ravine and got some really cool footage. You can see the place for yourselves on video, so go check it out!
It was also great to spend the time together and find out what great hearts all the guys in the band have for God. We are truly a bunch of worshipers, and it's awesome to see God at the heart of our ministry. There is so much performance going on in this world, and we are starting to understand the difference God's presence has on the people we come across on our journey. We're looking forward to playing at more churches and lifting up Jesus' name over each other...
It would be great to hear from you, so let us know what you think. We love to stay in touch with you!!!
Blessings,
Petri
