The awards season is upon us and Lovebox has once again been nominated for the most coveted Best Medium Sized Festival, which we won last year, as well as Best Headline Performance Groove Armada AND Duran Duran, and perhaps not the most coveted award for Best Toilets.
Everyone who takes part in voting is eligible for the
ultimate festival prize-draw to win 2 VIP tickets to every winning
festival.
As per last year, voting takes place in 2
stages. This is the Longlist round which runs until 14th October. The
final shortlists will then be revealed and people can vote again for
the final winners.
Voting concludes on 4th November with the
winners announced at the gala ceremony which returns to the IndigO2 in
London on Thursday 16th November.
Could you, would you, help us drive votes in the hope that we get
shortlisted at the very least ? The link below takes you directly to
the site and the voting process is really very easy. The closing date
for the first round is the 14th October and the winner will be
announced on the 19th November at an event held at the O2.
VOTE HERE
We would of course be very willing to bribe you in all sorts of ways,
however this is obviously not allowed, so we are relying on your good
will. Each vote is automatically entered into a competition to win a
pair of VIP tickets to each winning festival which is a pretty good
incentive. love and thanks Lovebox

| GREETINGS...Back safe and sound from a vintage Glastonbury, and here in sunny Shoreditch the temperature is soaring in every sense with just 3 weeks to go until Lovebox 2009.This week we want to tell you more about the Fringe Field and all the other weird and wonderful random happenings at Lovebox - operas, orchestras, comics and cirque and, for the first ever time, outdoor Bowling lanes courtesy of All Star Lanes Bowling. Of course we also have news of yet more additions to the line up, including Official Secrets Act, Filthy Dukes, Max Tundra and The Raghu Dixit Project. While in the Vagabonds in Paradise (V.I.P) area we are delighted to welcome The Nextmen, Joey Negro, Breakin Bread and Daisy O'Dell on Saturday lining up alongside Norman Jay MBE, Groove Armada's Tom Findlay, Stu Patterson & Leo Elstob (Soulsonic/Faith) and Heavenly Jukebox on Sunday. Plus Glastonbury highlights of some acts to catch at Lovebox and a reminder about the Official Lovebox After Party on Saturday 18 July down in an SE1 warehouse. And if you want to get hold of this year's Lovebox magazine, featuring a rather brilliant and unique cover designed by Nick Rhodes & Dinos Chapman no less, pick up a copy of this week's Time Out magazine where you'll find it slap bang in the middle But right now its all about the Fringe... LOVEBOX: 18TH & 19TH JULY TICKETS DAY TICKET £42.50+booking fee (CLICK) WEEKEND £75.00+booking fee (CLICK)VIP DAY TICKET £99.00+booking fee (CLICK) VIP WEEKEND TICKET £149.00+booking fee (CLICK) THE FRINGE FIELD Hosted by La Clique's Mistress of Ceremonies, Miss Behave, and taking its inspiration from the Edinburgh festival, the Fringe Field has grown in size every year and this year will see the biggest line up of the weird and wonderful we have ever had. Hoe down pioneers, Cut-A-Shine will be hosting their own Barn Dancing tent and there will be hordes of walkabout performances from the likes The Trans-Siberian Marching Band, The Whoopee Club and magical circus from the fire breathing, thongtastic Skate Naked crew. The Bee's Knees will be hosting a giant Al Fresco dance class and there's gypsy fiddlers Hot Club of Belleville and sex god troubadour, Earl Okin, to keep you entertained. Enjoying their debuts at Lovebox this year are the London Swingphonia - a 20-piece orchestra playing rat-packed hits sung by the spectacular, tuxedo-wearing Harry Martin - and bizarre soloist, Opera Burlesque. The stage will also play host to a packed child-friendly program on Sunday when acts including: The Chipolotas and the Jones & Barnard Show will serve up slapstick cirque, street theatre and comedy. Yet another debut for the ever-expanding Fringe Field is the Out Of the Ordinary Stage which will host what can only be described as a mind-bending symposium of esoteric learning on earth mysteries, crop circles, leylines and shamanism (of course...) The Fringe Field will also showcase some outstanding musical talent from the likes of Lollapaloza Favourite, Black Joe Lewis with his 8 piece rock soul band The Honeybears. Joining them will be New Orleans' much admired 7 piece jazz/hip hop innovators Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Dynamo's Rhythm Aces who take modern and contemporary hits from Frankie Goes to Hollywood to The Spice Girls to Motorhead and serve them up skillet hot in 40's/50's swing and boogie woogie style. ALL STAR LANES BOWLING Boutique bowling hits the Fringe Field this year as All Star Lanes hosts the first ever, not to be missed, outdoor Bowling lanes at a UK Festival. With multiple bowling lanes, delicious cocktails, the best milkshakes, classic American dining and guest DJs including playing the jukebox all day.
VINTAGE CLOTHES FAIR & SOME RELAXED PAMPERING For festival fashionistas, a chance to pick up a beautiful bargain at the Affordable Vintage Clothes Fair. And when dressing up and dancing get too much the new Heavenly Healing area, a tented village of massage and complimentary therapies will transport you to a world of bliss and tranquility before returning you safely back to planet Lovebox. GLASTO (BOX) Well what a show! and a great taste of what to expect from a good few artists who'll be at Lovebox with some superb performances. Thanks to the Beeb, you can catch extended highlights of some of these if you're quick. Leading the charge: Florence and the Machine with a truly amazing performance and one of, if not THE most talked about throughout the entire weekend. Occupying a Main Stage slot at Lovebox previously taken by icons such as Blondie and The B-52's, it's already clear she is destined for great things herself. See her outstanding performance at HERE It is so good to see Doves at last getting the wider adulation that the music industry has accorded them for so long after their brilliant new album, and they delivered an anthemic show which has got us all very excited indeed about seeing them on the Main Stage on Sunday evening. (SEE THEIR PERORMANCE HERE) Making a last minute guest appearance, N*E*R*D delivered a typically charged show that got the Pyramid stage literally jumping along as one to Pharrell and friend's rhythm n bass and elsewhere some serious noteworthy performances from Friendly Fires and the wonderful VV Brown.
Big shout to all the other Lovebox artists at Glastonbury this weekend, too many to mention here, but we look forward to welcoming you all to our East London soiree.

Creative Production Assistant jobs at Lovebox 2009
We are looking for a selection of inspired, artistic and hardworking happy people to help us with various jobs on site from painting to fabric dressing to flower arranging to basic site carpentry. We need people to come armed with creative ideas and some experience so that they can be valid members of our team.
The jobs will be running during the set up (build) and take down (break) of the festival (dates below). We understand that due to outstanding work commitments etc it may not be possible for people to work ALL the days involved, however, for consistency we will be looking for people who can work consecutive days and the more days the better! We will need more people for the last few days of the bill than at other times. That being said – we are not slave drivers and so, unless you want to, you will not be expected to work both the build AND the break.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in the field of event design and management. We are unfortunately not able to offer payment for these roles but you will receive a production wristband which will grant you access to Madstock (July 17th) and both days of Lovebox (July 18th and 19th) when you will not be expected to work. You will also be fed and watered during your shifts – like little creative production flowers.
If you wish to apply for these positions, please email staff@loveboxlondon.com stating your name, age, email address, phone number and include details of your previous experience and which days you are available to work. We will be in touch shortly with all successful applicants.
Dates: Madstock/Lovebox Site Build – 10/07/2009 – 16/07/2009 Madstock/Lovebox Site Break – 20/07/2009 – 24/07/2009

This week we bring you news of the Official FREE Lovebox Launch Party at Cargo this coming Friday 12 June, Diplo & X-Press 2 heading up a list of yet more acts added to the Lovebox line up and early warning of the Official Lovebox After Party for the dirty ravers amongst us!
THE OFFICIAL LOVEBOX LAUNCH PARTY – THIS FRIDAY 12 JUNE AT CARGO – FREE ENTRY FROM 6PM onwards
Talk about the best club nights in London will undoubtedly include mentions of Horse Meat Disco, Disco Bloodbath and Secretsundaze. And on Friday night, to kick off the official countdown to Lovebox 2009, we are delighted to have representatives from all three! Any time these guys throw a party you know it's going to be a roadblock, so to have residents from all three playing under one roof is nothing short of insane.
We’ve pulled in a favour (or four) and Messrs Jim Stanton, Giles Smith and Damon Martin will be holding court on the one’s and two’s…
Adding some live music to proceedings are two rapidly ascending bands, both of whom are appearing at the Lovebox Weekender this year. First up are one of Camden Town’s fastest rising musical stars, Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, whose enthralling electro/pop sounds are inspired by the likes of Pet Shop Boys and Yazoo. Edinburgh based three piece Young Fathers have just confirmed they’ll be supporting Simian Mobile Disco on their European tour so you know they’re on the up. Imagine if Q-Tip had his sound perverted by Spankrock and you get a the picture of what they’re refreshingly energetic brand of hip hop will bring to the party.
Not only that, but Spencer Wood will be adding a touch of magic to proceedings with his incredible close up magic. Not just any old magician for us, oh no! Winner of the Magic Circle Close Up Magician of the Year award no less and not only that he’s a bit flippin’ cool as well! (http://www.spencerwoodmagic.com/index.html)
Such a killer line up makes early arrival not so much recommended as absolutely mandatory…see you on the dancefloor!

Lending some able support, are X-Press 2. Now, legend has it that in the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove, and from this groove came the groove of all grooves. Sadly, we have received word that Fat Freddy’s Drop have cancelled their European tour in July which includes their scheduled appearance at Lovebox.
The statement on their MySpace page reads: "It is with real regret that Fat Freddys are unable to deliver our July 2009 European tour. Being the second European summer tour the band have cancelled, it was a decision that has not been taken lightly – will you ever believe us ever again? We hope that our new album Dr Boondigga & The Big BW will alleviate your disappointment and help you keep the faith."
We're extremely dissapointed; this is a bit of an occupational hazard with so many acts on the bill, but we wish the band well. You can of course rest assured, that despite this, the weekend will still be a belter.

GREETINGS! Another bank holiday another mail out and another warning from the met office of a scorching summer; the planets are definitely aligning and the line-up is adding up to be a dead cert killer.
Since the last news from us, the oft cited "godfather of electronic music" Gary Numan, who's earned the title with props dropped from Derrick May and Juan Atkins to Marilyn Manson and Dave Grohl has joined the main stage bill.
Last.fm and The Fly have snagged Magistrates, Fontan, DJ Mujava and a headlining slot from Chairlift for their Pushmi-Pullyu tent on Sunday night. And on the Saturday, when Horse Meat Disco and Disco Bloodbath curate the stage, they'll be hosting Andy Butler - he of the phenomenal Hercules and Love Affair fame - for a DJ set NYC style.
The lion's share of the new talent this time round is heading straight for the Gaymers Field. Loveboxers venturing into this area will be able to enjoy fine dining, ice-cold cider, the UK's largest purpose built tree house and now the musical talents of Frankmusik, Au Revoir Simone, Temper Trap, The RGBs and MPHO.
Perhaps the biggest news today is the confirmation of a whole new arena from The Rizla Invisible Players bigger and better than ever with new line-up which contains so far Jazzie B, Gruff Rhys, David Shrigley and Hip-hop Karaoke. Watch this space for some tasty additions to the Rizla line-up.
Playing from a unique musical van, a recreation of the original Rizla touring van of the 1920's, The Invisible Players will play spontaneous and inspiring sets from a diverse record collection. There are no prepared set lists, just pure improvisation and the creation of a unique vibe in the Rizla Arena. The sound could vary from Dub, Electro, Dancehall, Funk, Hip Hop, Breakbeat to Northern Soul and Acid House - the roots of popular music as we know it.

VIP AREA: For those who want to feel extra special we will be building a new and improved VIP AREA this year and we've teamed up with the people behind the Sanctum Hotel in Soho to deliver it. Having created what they describe as 'an alluring haven of hedonism' in their much feted new Soho boutique hotel, Sanctum Events will be bringing the right balance of rock and roll attitude, edgy glamour, and the high levels of service to the VIP at Lovebox.
In a dedicated and self contained area VIP ticket holders will be treated to: VIP ENTERTAINMENT While VIP ticketholders have access to all entertainments on site, the VIP area will feature it's own soundsystem presided over by some suitably heavyweight DJs tba. plus cabaret and burlesque theatre throughout the day from the Whoopee Club. London's most celebrated producers of breathtaking, weird, wonderful, and racy performance. (www.thewhoopeeclub.com) and roaming close up magicians.
VIP A LA CARTE DINING, BBQ, EXPRESS ENTRY, BARS AND OTHER FACILITIES The VIP will be operating a 60 cover sit down a la carte restaurant with renowned Gastro couple, Kirsten & Christian Sandefeldt who together presently run seafood emporium Deep in Imperial Wharf, and prior to that the celebrated Aquarium restaurant in St Katherine's Dock. Full details of the French Bistro influenced menu will be announced shortly so watch this space. In addition, a gourmet BBQ will be in operation throughout the weekend as well as cocktail and champagne bars.
Dedicated express lanes will ensure you are whisked onto the site double quick sharp so you can get on with enjoying the day while luxury restrooms mean a level of comfort above and beyond the normal festival experience.
VIP DAY TICKET £99.00+booking fee (CLICK) VIP WEEKEND TICKET £149.00+booking fee (CLICK)
That's it for now but we still have a couple more big name guests to add to the Invisible Players line-up, which we're saving for our next mail out, but needless to say they'll be real treat.
Take it easy

As we head into the May bank holiday, there’s no doubt that the summer has definitely started. We know that for some people this means planning trip abroad, but for us it means planning to bring in the best musical acts from London town, the UK and beyond all for you at Lovebox 2009. We thought we’d start with some dance. First and foremost: Groove Armada will be premièring their new Black Light stage show in support of their most exciting album to date and taking the band on a whole new musical direction. With the album release date set for September this momentous performance will be the first and only place you can see them anywhere in the great British outdoors this year. We've had a sneak peak and can guarantee that it will be a spectacular ending to a spectacular weekend... Over in the Stockade, Lovebox's biggest dance venue, we're really lucky to have Chicago's finest, DJ Sneak; while being a true old school US Jock, Sneak has kept his ear to the ground and for us represents a strong US comeback rivalling the many great European producers and jocks that have been keeping the House underground burning strong for the past few years.
Alongside hosts secretsundaze, Johnny D, a perfect example of the European minimal / deep house / techno / sound that thankfully defies tight pigeonholing, is joined by Joakim bringing his unique take on the sound and DJ Nadia Ksaiba.
Having already announced Simian Mobile Disco heading up the Stockade on Sunday, we've just secured DJ Tom Maddicott their very talented tour DJ to segue us into their spectacular live show. To complete this round-up of new talent in the Stockade we have a good helping of live dance acts: electronica from The Emperor Machine, UK hip-hop from Young Fathers and electro-pop from Fenech-Soler, Ou Est (formerly known as Ou Est Le Swimmimg Pool) and The Twelves. Last time out, we announced our brand new stage for 2009 – The Pushme Pullyu - to be hosted by Horse Meat Dsico and Disco Bloodbath on Saturday and The Fly and Last.Fm on the Sunday. So excited were we at the unique, cult-inspired concept and all the fantastic people we’d brought in to host – we forgot to tell you about any of music!! Both The Fly and Last.fm are known for bringing the coolest, newest music to the attention of the masses and they’re bringing plenty to Victoria Park for our Sunday lineup. The Fly side of the stage will see Dananananaykroyd, gracing the stage with their multiple drummers and cheeky Scottish ‘fight pop’ sounds, which we’re really hoping isn’t going to require us to call Security! Also in their corner are Chew Lips and Swimming. Last.Fm have drafted Drums of Death into service – signed to the white-hot Greco-Roman imprint and setting the tone for what will be a real musical show down. There's lots more acts to be added to this and all the stages and we'll be updating you as we go for THE musical bout of the year. LOVEBOX PRESENTS…………………AT THE GREAT ESCAPE Every year, Lovebox opens it’s doors and people come a’flocking – not just from London but from all over the country. We really appreciate you all coming to us, whether you’re hailing from Bristol or Brixton – but if you non-Londoners can venture inside the M25, then we can venture out. May 14th, 15th and 16th sees the cream of musical world descending on Brighton for The Great Escape Festival – and we’re descending with them. Lovebox presents.........at The Great Escape will see us taking over The Brighton Coalition for all 3 nights of the festival showcasing a range of dance and indie artists including Mr Hudson, Dan Black and Nathan Flutebox Lee. Other acts on our bill will be Fandeath, 80 kidz, Ou Est, Tucker and Heartbreak, plus our very own dynamic duo The Lovebox Allstars are packing up their buckets and spades, chucking some guitars in their electronic mix and coming down to offer their support on the decks. It’s our own little soiree by the sea – and everyone’s invited. Get your tickets here - http://www.escapegreat.com/ . OFFICIAL LOVEBOX LAUNCH, CARGO A date for your diaries – June 12th for our official launch party at Cargo. We’re planning a fantastic Friday night of DJs, live music and cabaret to kick start our 2009 effort – and, best of all, entry will be free! Stay tuned for more amazing acts yet to come. Enjoy the sunshine!
Love Lovebox.

Current mood: ecstatic
Sitting here, in Lovebox HQ, watching the April drizzle, it’s hard to believe that only a couple of weeks ago we were enjoying beautiful sunshine. We may have gotten a bit carried away – but all that sunshine really put us in the mood for the summer – and so we’ve been hard at work and we’ve now got a whole host of new acts and activity to announce for this year’s festival.
Our Saturday lineup just got even better, as we’ve added electrifying funk-rock outfit Gang of Four and VV Brown. They’ll be joining Friendly Fires, Fat Freddys Drop, Florence and the Machine and our eclectic headlining combo of rock/rap crossover kings N*E*R*D and pop kings Duran Duran.
We’ve fleshed out our Sunday lineup with the additions of acclaimed Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, modern folk quartet Noah and the Whale and Kiwi electro-pop sensation Ladyhawke. AND our biggest news is that we’re adding legendary punk rockers New York Dolls and Manchester’s epic rock-trio Doves to the bill for Sunday. Judging from their Top 5 album, Kingdom of Rust and the sneak peak we caught when they played a courtyard session for The Fly in March, Doves will be treating Victoria Park’s faithful to an outstanding show – while New York Dolls’ thundering punk anthems may well start Lovebox’s first ever mosh pit!
Also joining our lineup will be electro newcomer Dan Black, Malian world music sensation Rokia Traore and contemporary RnB artist Mr Hudson.
And……….And……..AND there’s still even more to come! Well, with an expanded 40 acre site and 7 (yes, 7!!) stages for your delectation this July, it’d be a bit naff if we stopped there, wouldn’t it?
We’ve always strived to give our Lovebox stages the most creative and craziest concepts and best musical acts around. New for 2009, and inspired by the cult Rex Harrison movie Dr DooLittle, will be the Pushmi-Pullyu stage. Bringing you the best of London disco from Horse Meat Disco and Disco Bloodbath on Saturday and the coolest new music from Last FM and The Fly on Sunday, you won’t know whether you’re coming or going – but you’re sure to be loving it!!....
Another first for Lovebox – and festivals everywhere – will be an outdoor festival Bowling Championship, hosted by All Star Lanes. With multiple bowling lanes, milkshake cocktails, classic American dining and guest DJs playing the jukebox all day – it’s not be missed.
The Fringe Field is back again in 2009 – nestled in a peaceful clearing of trees, offering a weird and wonderful alternative to the rest of the Festival. Amongst the many acts this year, will be Cut-A-Shine, who will host their own barn-dancing tent with folk and acoustic sessions from the Magpie’s Nest.
To keep you fed and watered throughout the weekend, we’re hosting thelondonpaper Sourced Market again this year. Filled with the best traders from Borough and other London farmers markets, there’ll be an eclectic mix of mouth-watering food on offer.
And for anyone who just wants to relax – or anyone who’s overdone it the night before – there’ll be Heavenly Healing, a tented village of massage and complimentary therapies – another new addition for Lovebox and perfect for a spot of weekend pampering.
We could stop there and already we’d a have a pretty amazing festival on our hands. But we won’t – we’re going to keep going until we’ve made the 2009 Lovebox Festival into a towering behemoth of music, arts and general revelry. So get involved – get yourself off to www.lovebox.net and follow the links to buy your ticket now. If you’ve already got yours, then just sit back and relax – 2009 is going to be AMAZING!!!!!!....

It might seem hard to believe but summer is coming. And summer in London means Lovebox.
We are ridiculously pleased to announce our 2009 festival, which will take place in London’s Victoria Park, Hackney, London, E9 on the 18th and 19th of July.
You can now get your tickets here - www.lovebox.net.
Once again, Lovebox will be bringing you the very best in bands and DJs from London and beyond. The festival is now in it’s eighth year and we’re going to make sure that this year bigger and better than ever before.
We’ve already started work on a lineup that’s guaranteed to bring London to it’s feet come July. Saturday night will be headlined by none other than pop legends Duran Duran, in their only UK festival appearance of 2009. Sunday’s bill will topped by our seminal hosts, Groove Armada, debuting brand new material from their forth coming album AND a new live show that will have everyone dancing well into the night.
Saturday will also feature performances from the rock/rap crossover collective N*E*R*D, the up-and-coming Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires and Fat Freddy’s Drop.
Not to forget our roots in dance music - we’re also going to be joined by the London party crews Secretsundaze and Horse Meat Disco, plus Simian Mobile Disco will be backing up Groove Armada on Sunday.
And we’re not done yet. We’ll be adding new acts to the bill over the coming months. Stay tuned for further announcements.
Last year, we did such a good job that they gave us a prize. Lovebox was crowned the UK’s Best Medium-Sized Festival at the 2008 UK Festival Awards - and we aim to live up to that title once again in 2009.
We’ll also be bringing you London’s best in cabaret, freak-show and fringe performers. There’s going to be a brand new dance stage and the Gaymer’s stage will be returning once again. The Sourced Food Market will be on site once more to provide much-need, quality sustenance for our revellers and with this year’s site expanded to 40 acres, we’re planning on packing in even more.
So come join us and witness the best that London and the world has to offer in music, creativity, food, drink and much, much more. Tickets are now available - priced at £42.50 for the day and £75 for the weekend.
