Today in California we saw the Supreme Court uphold an unfair, unnecessary and outright bigoted law that further enshrines injustice into the State's constitution. It is a dark day and an even darker blemish on the beautiful road to freedom in a state that has always stood for fairness and lead the way in defining "Justice for All."

But despite the setback that most of us knew would come today I couldn't be prouder to be a Califonian. I live in a state where my beautiful brothers and sisters have been allowed to wed regardless of who they love. We have continued to rattle the cage of inequality and we will not give up. It was an extraordinary thing to read how the Iowa justices quoted our own in its unanimous decision to allow marriage equality and I have NO doubt that we have not heard the last of California and its great people.

For today, allow a spot of sadness for the fear that still drives so many to hateful action. For tomorrow take heart in knowing that our day is coming soon... of that there is no doubt. I love you,

chad

Allen Replaces Emick in Lombardo's Looped Opposite Harper

By Andrew Gans
26 Dec 2008

Chad Allen has replaced the previously announced Tony winner Jarrod Emick in the upcoming pre-Broadway engagement of Matthew Lombardo's Looped at the Cuillo Centre in West Palm Beach, FL.

Allen had created the role of Danny Miller in the world-premiere production of Looped at the Pasadena Playhouse this past summer.

In a statement producer Tony Cacciotti said, "We are all extremely excited to have Chad return to the production. He and Valerie have such remarkable chemistry together and will once again have audiences roaring with laughter. We are so grateful Chad's schedule has allowed him to continue with this project."

As previously reported, four-time Emmy Award winner Valerie Harper will star as Tallulah Bankhead in Looped, which begins performances Dec. 31 at the Florida venue with an official opening Jan. 7, 2009. Performances will continue through Feb. 15, 2009. Rob Ruggiero directs.

Looped, according to press notes, "tells the story of actress Tallulah Bankhead, the original celebrity bad girl who enters a film studio session to re-record (or 'loop') one line of dialogue for her final film, 'Die, Die My Darling.' What ensues is a showdown between an uptight sound editor and the outrageous legend. Southern, but by no means a belle, Ms. Bankhead was known for her wild partying that rivaled even today's superstars, including innumerable affairs with both male and female celebrities and outlandish exploits that were too scandalous to mention. Relish in the outrageously naughty wit of this sultry-voiced stage and film star!"

The Cuillo Centre for the Arts is located at 201 Clematis in West Palm Beach, FL. For tickets call (561) 835-9226 or visit www.cuillocentre.org.

Well it's getting very close to the release of Save Me. I hope you're all getting as excited as we are at Chad Allen Online. Today the trailer was released and can be seen at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4l1qzffGQM

The official web site for Save Me is:

http://www.savememovie.com/

That is the best place to check to see if it's playing anywhere near you. If it's not request your local theater to book it. This is a must see movie!! According to Time Out London, "it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that 'Save Me' is up there with 'Brokeback Mountain' as one of the most powerful gay dramas of recent years."

Most of the Chad Allen Online staff was lucky enough to spend an afternoon on the set for the shooting of a scene where the "boys" play a game of baseball. We finally got permission to post those photos on the site today and they can be seen at:

http://www.chadallenonline.com/acting/movies/saveme-set-photos.html

Also don't forget the two new Donald Strachey movies - On the Other Hand, Death (now showing) and Ice Blues (shows next month) on the Here! Network. I've seen both and they are fantastic the best of the series so far!

Keep Chadding!

Save Me is a deft exploration of the controversial ex-gay movement. The story follows Mark (Chad Allen), a drug-addicted young man who overdoses and finds himself at the mercy of his disapproving family. Their solution to Mark's problems is to check him into a Christian run ministry overseen by Gayle (Judith Light), who believes she can help cure young men of their 'gay affliction' through spiritual guidance. At first, Mark resists the efforts of Gayle and her loving husband Ted (Stephen Lang), but soon finds solace and brotherhood with several of the members, including Scott (Robert Gant), who is battling family demons of his own. When Mark and Scott begin to find their friendship developing into an unexpected romance, both are forced to confront the new attitudes they're beginning to accept, and Gayle finds the values she holds as an absolute truth to be threatened.

Directed by Robert Cary, from a screenplay by Robert Desiderio, Save Me is a love story that offers a complex and timely examination of one of the most polarizing religious and sexual debates in America, while intricately showing the way love (for oneself, most importantly) can heal in all its various forms.

Save Me will continue its film festival run through the Summer of 2008 and then debut in theaters this September!

Chad Allen (via Advocate.com): I have to say I was completely shocked at the level of emotion of my own reaction. It's not that I didn't care, it's just that I didn't know that I cared that much. But when I found out about it, I was so full of joy and happiness and I was really emotional. I think that just relays the sense that when you are denied something, at least for myself, I tend to try and disregard its importance. And when all of a sudden it happened, I realized there was a part of me that wanted it so desperately.

I think it's of massive importance for our self-esteem and the personal level of acceptance that we all struggle for as gay and lesbian people, for us to simply know that this part of our dreams is even capable of coming true. I'm thinking about getting married. I am in love with my partner, deeply madly in love with him, and though I am not ready to propose yet, it is in there. I have always said that I wasn't going to do it until I could do it legally, and now that we can and it's real, there is even a little bit of pressure now, like "I can't use that excuse anymore." It's a kind of pressure that, say, my sister has always had going into a relationship, wondering if this is the one and what about popping the question, and when do you do it and how do you know. But I have lived in ignorance of that until today.

[Webmaster's note: I talked to Chad yesterday afternoon on the phone while he was having a celebratory lunch with his partner. He was so happy he was even more bubbly than normal. I told him that I had better be receiving a wedding invitation. He said I definitely would be!]
