I know it's been ages since I've really posted anything here in my MySpace page.
To be honest, I don't use MySpace much anymore. Most of my on line time is spent on FaceBook, Twitter and LiveJournal. (See some of you at these places?)

But I can't neglect all my friends here either....

It's been a really busy spring / summer tour. Now I'm back in SF, doing closer and shorter teaching trips as it's my slower business season. Go figure, there's a slow season for sxuality ed!

So I'm spending the time trying to excavate myself out from underneath an avalanche of e mails. My desk is a chaos of mail, notes, stuff to do, etc. oy!

1.    CURRENT TRENDS IN SEXUALITY

You’re out there making it happen!
After my musings last month on NanoActivism, e mails and on line responses poured in on the simple and small actions each of you are taking – to collectively make a profound difference in the world. Each day, among the grim news headlines, we see such signs poking out, like green sprouts breaking through the wreckage and the rot.

There also seems to be a shift of late, in people’s focus concerning their sensual and sexual lives. Emerging as a quiet trend among those attending my classes: the longing for emotional authenticity and connection with their partners. Ways to express creativity with the ordinary objects are gaining popularity as well. Fading into a lesser priority seems to be the fascination with flashy skills for the sake of flash and the interest in the latest gadgetry.

I can’t say for certain if this is a general trend – but it certainly seem to be among those I meet in workshops. As I teach to a broad spectrum of people in a wide range of geographic areas, maybe there is something to this observation. The questions during and after classes are focused more towards making intimate connections. Eyes light up to tips on better understanding one’s partners. Faces brighten while working on finding one’s fundamental joys. More people, especially couples, who’ve never come to bedroom skills workshops are coming to them as sexy date nights, leaving the kids with sitters and holding hands during class.

Maybe it’s one of those side effects of the economic meltdown. When top-of-the-line fashion magazines cover the joys of thrift shop treasure hunts and the New York Times has a series on frugal traveling, sensuality turns to the core of intimacy rather than the latest exotic adult resorts, fantastical toys or complicated technical displays. 

The heart and hearth trumps bling and glitz.
This warms my heart – it’s the first blossoms of spring after a long, hard winter.

1.    APHRODISIACS ON MY MIND – WHAT’S YOURS?

Chocolates, truffles, oysters and saffron swirl around my thoughts these days. Mmm yummy! These are all delicious eats, but they’ve also been considered aid for amorous desires, a.k.a. aphrodisiacs, in times past.

Maybe it’s the change of seasons and the buzz of life in the spring air. Or maybe it’s because I’m preparing my upcoming “Aphrodisiacs!” presentation. Possibly it’s just because I’m a libidinous foodie and a sex geek.

In our rational minds we know the licentious powers of rhino horn and the arousing capacity of oysters to be romantic folklore and wishful thinking. Yet, even the most sensible and scientifically minded may pause before a whimsical potion promising pleasure, or recall the lustful romp with a lover over a shared meal, inextricably associating the heat of the sex with the heat of spices or the rush of chocolate desserts.

The great thing about my current quest is that I can shamelessly collect, buy and talk about all these reputed romancing foods with a fabulous excuse – “it’s research!”

Folklores of aphrodisiacs have been passed down through generations because of our simple longing for love from those whom we desire. Desire intertwines limbs with Loneliness to beget Hope – foolish, wonderful, imaginative, crazy, dangerous, innovative and invigorating – hope.

5.    AIDS LIFECYCLE:  WOULD YOU LEND ME A HAND?

I’m at it again! I maybe foolish but I’m not hopeless!

In June I’m volunteering as one of the roadies for AIDS Life/Cycle. A week of my life will be devoted to being in service to the cyclists and ultimately to a greater cause – reduction of suffering caused by HIV/AIDS.

1.    SENSUAL RUSH: TOUCHED BY ART

“Sensual pleasures”: When did these words come to mean only pleasures of the genitals?  When did eroticism come to mean only the things that happen between one’s thighs? Sensuality encompasses indulgences and awakening of all the senses. Eroticism is a joy in the body that embraces the intangibles of the heart, the spirit and the mind. If the senses are dulled, perhaps from grief in the state of the world or numbing from onslaught of daily stress, then our sensual potential starves.

We all have our own cures for the battered and beleaguered sensuality – often in ways that aren’t even seen by others as tangibly sensual or overtly erotic.
What’s yours? Gardens, music, film, scents, culinary arts, travel, dancing?
Mine? Mine is art.

Museums – and intentionally created art spaces - are my sensual recovery room. They are my places of worship. There, my senses, spirit, sensuality and joy in the human potential come together and ignite me.

I came to this realization last year as I walked through the Art Institute of Chicago. Where my eyes welled up and I was choked by a sense of awe and wonder. I was breathless at the simplicity and power of Felix Gonzalez-Torres’ work. There I engaged in one of my Art Pranks – a random act of performance. I blush to Mozart and weep to Wagner. Rodin brings warmth to my loins. I swoon in the light of James Turrel and Eliasson. Others make me gnash my teeth, plunge me into grief or suspend me in meditation. This state of art-verklemmtness – buzzes me like a hot current through my body and mind. I’m charged and alive. A frenzy catapults me into a state of creativity, for no other reason other than a need to create. Sometimes I need to infect other with this state – the desire to transmit something within me to others – to touch the world around me and leave a mark. A drive within my DNA, inexplicable yet natural as the drive for sex and pleasure, and for some the drive to procreate. I am certain that I’m not alone in this – even if my own art is outside many conventions.

Happily there are venues and events that love outsider artists with these irrational creative drives. Sometimes they’re art galleries, such as Femina Potens where recently I committed another act of Art Prank. Sometimes they’re more “profane” spaces of nightclubs, where, under the guise of entertainment, I can bring the flesh the visions within me. Soon one of my Art Prank sculptures will be appearing at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival. Yes, I’m excited.

So if you see me in a gallery, walking alone – know that I’m at my worship.
If you see my creations, know that you caress another irrational Mandala from my heart.

Here's a class for fun-loving, wicked tops and for bottoms who enjoy a challenge. A predicament bondage creates a situation where the bottom is 'between a rock and a hard place.' Which ever direction the bottom moves has consequences, either physical or psychological. It can challenge your endurance, your pain threshold, or your pride.

The class will include several demos, and you may have an opportunity to volunteer for one. If you're a service bottom or an escape artist, you may get a new challenge!

Rope bondage can be simple, elegant, effective and sensual, but if you don't know how to do it right, it can be dangerous.

An unusually harsh winter lingers over much of the northern hemisphere as the credit crunch / recession / depression further darkens the emotional climate. For so many, it’s just not the mood for celebrate spring, love and life – yet Valentines is just around the corner.

Because it is such a dark season, it’s all the more important to be good to your heart, your sweetie’s heart and the priceless small acts of love and kindness.  Don’t forget those friend’s in your life who maybe facing these tumultuous times alone or lonely.

It’s time I think to invest in the gold of real smiles - smiles, freely given away, yield 1000% return. The more we give, the more we get.

Did you miss me? I hope so! I missed you guys!
I know it's been two months since you've heard from me via this newsletter. I've just returned from the most amazing 6-week tour in the Southern Hemisphere. I had the pleasure of mingling with sensualists, hedonists and kinksters in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore and even India. In between classes and performances I got to go hiking in pristine wilderness, swim in the Australian waters, visit ancient temples, join in a traditional Hindu wedding celebration, go on a safari and contemplate Indian toilets. Most importantly I got to spend time with my friends and loved ones.
I won't bury you with my over excited travel reports or photos, but if you're interested you'll find all that in my LiveJournal blog.

I hope that 2008 has been a good year for you. It's been an eventful and memorable year for all of us for so many reasons. The challenging economic situation has given us all an opportunity to evaluate the real treasures and joys in life. Allowing us to give thanks to what we may have taken for granted.

This year brought great adventures and wonderful people in my life.
I think I cried a lot this year.
The love my life married me, legally, at SF City Hall. I cried in my kimono.
I bid a teary farewell to my 18 year old cat as she died in my arms.
Joyful tears streamed down my face election night and I watched hope erupt all over.
The next day I cried in dismay and disbelief at the prospect that I may be forced to annul my marriage and my constitutional rights will be taken away.
I cried at great movies and wonderful meals.
I balled my eyes out to expressions of love from my friends and family.
I'm just a teary eyed fool!

So now we're about to head into 2009. Where will this journey take us?

First... Strip-O-Rama! The evening begins at 6 pm with a FREE striptease lesson by Burlesque Star Miss Indigo Blue. Miss Indigo will teach sexy moves for butches, femmes, transfolk and genderqueers to achieve stripping success on the catwalk! FREE, and guaranteed to be fun! Come prepared to take it all off!

Then, at 7:30 pm, Miss Indigo Blue and Lydia McLane join Midori to co-host an outrageous amateur strip-off! This will be a no-holds barred, wild and abandoned show of women, transfolk and genderqeers competing to receive the most tips from the audience, while bumping tunes set the mood. The biggest tip-receivers win BIG prize packages donated by Babeland, Twisted Monk, Pleasure Chest, ID Lube, Stockroom, Stormy Leather and Desire.

4. AIDS LIFECYCLE: A REQUEST FOR YOUR SUPPORT

Some have told me that it's a hopeless cause – they say it's like draining the ocean with a bucket. Others have told me that there's no point in doing this during this economic crisis and people aren't going to be able to help. I refuse to believe them.

I shouldn't be getting calls about blood tests coming in positive. But I do.
We shouldn't be reading in the headlines that whole demographic sectors are getting more HIV. But we do.
In my travels I shouldn't hear that AIDS "doesn't exist here." But I do.
It scares me… Globally, 50% of those living with HIV are women, 80% of whom are married or with one partner. For every person starting antiretrovirals, 3 go without, and 3 more become infected.


In June I'm volunteering as one of the roadies for AIDS Life/Cycle. A week of my life will be devoted to being in service to the cyclists and ultimately to a greater cause – reduction of suffering.
